Dick’s Sporting Goods announced on Wednesday that their recent endorsement of gun control policies and hiring of gun control lobbyists has hurt their sales of firearms and hunting accessories.
The company did not reveal specifics about how much their firearms business had fallen during their first quarter earnings call but said it was directly connected to their decision to embrace certain gun control policies. “As expected, our firearms policy changes impacted our hunt business which saw an accelerated decline in an already challenged category,” Dick’s CFO Lee Belitsky told analysts. “We expect these businesses to remain under significant pressure throughout the remainder of the year.”
The store announced in February it would be reinstituting a ban on sales of AR-15s and similar rifles as well as certain firearms magazines after abandoning a nearly identical policy it announced in 2012. The company then embraced gun control, banning the sale of firearms to adults under 21 years of age and hiring lobbyists to advocate for stricter gun laws.
When asked by an analyst whether he believed Dick’s firearms business could rebound later in the year, CEO Edward Stack said the company does not see that segment of the business improving any time soon.
NEW YORK — Legendary stand-up comic Jackie Mason contended that in the age of progressive activism seemingly targeting the right-wing, comedians are “fearful of every word we say” out of concern that comments can “somehow be connected to something that sounds conservative.”
Mason contended that there is a double standard between the way the entertainment industry approaches liberal comedians and those who espouse any conservative views, especially comedy figures who appear to support President Donald Trump.
“Roseanne Barr is thrown out immediately because she supports Trump,” Mason argued. “But if you are a leftist lowlife you can say or do whatever you want.”
Mason was speaking in a pre-taped interview scheduled to air on this reporter’s Sunday night talk radio program, “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio.”
Regarding ABC’s swift firing of Barr following her racist Twitter remark, Mason stated: “Let’s be honest about it. If she was in favor of Trump, do you think they would kick her out at all? As soon as she said, ‘I like Trump’, they wanted her to drop dead. If she has a job, 10-minutes later she’s not working.”
Mason, however, did not have many kind words for Barr, taking issue with some of the comedian’s past support for the Occupy movement and for the 9/11 truther conspiracy in addition to numerous other controversial remarks and views. “She pretends she is a conservative because that is how they pay her on the show,” Mason claimed.
Still, while panning her remarks, Mason questioned why Barr was so quickly fired despite an apology as opposed to liberal comedians who committed similar offenses, like Joy Behar’s mocking of Vice President Mike Pence over his religious convictions. Behar waited several weeks before finally apologizing in that case.
And Mason sounded off about the continued backing for TBS talk show host and comedian Samantha Bee, who called Ivanka Trump a “feckless c—” during a segment on her show and issued an apology after the comments sparked an outcry.
“Not only does Samantha Bee still have a job, she is being celebrated all over the country because she apologized,” he said.
Mason quipped that “this yenta” – referring to Bee – “has about as much talent as a shoehorn.”
“She deserves to be on the air like I deserve to be in charge of the plumbing in your building,” he added.
Mason said comedians need to restrict themselves when it comes to espousing conservative views:
It has not only gone insane, but we are restricted with every word we say, and every comedian is fearful of saying the wrong word because it can somehow be connected to something that sounds conservative. Or they can be accused of all sorts of things. You don’t know what to say or where to go.
Because if they find out that there is one conservative. Even if he is in the audience. A conservative is not allowed to be in any part of the building during a comedy show. Even when they put up the building, if they find out the people working in the plumbing department are conservative he will be thrown out. Otherwise you will install a conservative toilet.

TBS has a problem. Samantha Bee’s non-apology landed with a thud, the left is eagerly lining up to regurgitate or one-up her initial comment, and advertisers are taking notice of the controversy. So far, at least two of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee’s sponsors have dumped the show, while one has announced its intention to stay.
A new report quotes MSNBC staffers who are upset with the network’s casual dismissal of Joy Reid’s growing pile of controversial writings — that management won’t come clean about the “joke” claim that the blog was hacked, that more and more topics are becoming too awkward for Reid to discuss, and that the channel’s credibility is taking a big hit.
The network‘s failure to address that dubious hacking claim has irked many inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Several employees who spoke to The Daily Beast—on condition of anonymity so as not to jeopardize their employment—said they were largely unimpressed with the statements, noting that many questions remain conspicuously unanswered.
“Everyone in the building is laughing at the idea that it was a hacker,” one MSNBC staffer told The Daily Beast.
“It’s just a joke,” said another employee.

While Reid is well-liked and respected by colleagues, said one staffer, they are waiting for Reid and MSNBC management to demonstrate a sense of accountability for her inconvenient past writing beyond boilerplate apologies. “It’s very problematic,” said an MSNBC insider.
Particularly, many LGBT staffers at the network expressed feeling insulted by how Reid seemingly suffered no consequences for her old homophobic blog posts or transphobic tweets.
As next month’s elections in Mexico approach, a disturbing trend continues with the government’s inability to provide basic security for politicians as the number of those assassinated exceeds 100.
According to statistics compiled by Mexico City-based Etellekt and local media, there were 11 candidates murdered per month from September 8 to May 26, 2018. The updated report indicates that in the last three months, there were three attacks per day related to the electoral process nationwide.
The most recent attack not covered in this report involves the case of Rodrigo Salado, a PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional) candidate for alderman in the municipality of San Marcos in Costa Chica de Guerrero, who was murdered by three gunmen who opened fire at the vehicle Salado was traveling in. They were able to flee and remain unidentified.
At least 103 politicians were murdered since the start of the electoral process (including pre-campaigns) and another 112 received threats. In 67 percent of the killings, the victims were attacked by gunmen who specifically targeted them. In 16 percent, victims were found with signs of torture or other methods of extreme violence. Roughly 83 percent of victims were executed with characteristics commonly associated with organized crime hits.
Between September 8, 2017, and May 26 of this year, there were 313 attacks against politicians (an average of three per day), and 44 attacks against family members with a total of 46 relatives murdered. Seventy-two percent of the attacks were directed at opposition politicians, mainly in the central and southern states of the country.
Preparation for the current election cycle began the first week of August 2017 with filing deadlines. The official start of the election process took place on September 8, 2017, with the publication of the electoral calendar.
The election will take place on July 1, 2018, when Mexico elects a new president, 128 senators, 500 federal deputies, and an additional 2,818 local authorities—the largest cumulative ballot in history.
The violence against political figures during the pre- and campaigns is attributed to an attempt by organized crime to influence the elections. In early May, it was reported locally that at least 1,000 federal and local hopefuls resigned their candidacies citing fears of violence.
At the end of 2017, Breitbart Texas reported the electoral process violence left nine politicians dead.

Whataburger apologized after a police detective entered a Friendswood, Texas, location Thursday and was denied service.
KTRK reports that the Friendswood Police Department detective entered the Whataburger in plain clothes, carrying his gun on his hip with “a badge clearly visible next to it.”
Police said the detective spoke to the store manager to explain that he was law enforcement “but the manager didn’t budge.” The detective left the restaurant without being served.

This was an unfortunate misunderstanding of our open carry policy, and we’ve talked to the detective to make this right. He was understanding, accepted our apology and said he plans to come back to Whataburger. Our company policy allows law enforcement with proper identification to open carry at our restaurants, and we’ll be reinforcing this policy with employees through additional training. We’ve also been in contact with the Friendswood Police Officers Association. We want to make it clear that this detective and all law enforcement are welcome in our restaurants and we’re proud to serve them.
On July 7, 2015–five months before a law allowing the open carry of handguns in Texas took effect–Breitbart News reported that Whataburger would prohibit the open carry of handguns in their stores. Whataburger President and CEO Preston Atkinson said his company “proudly [served] the gun rights community,” but that the open carry of a firearm by someone “who is not a member of law enforcement” was a step too far for customer comfort.

Job growth for foreign born workers is growing more than twice as fast as it is for native born American citizens, newly released labor data reveals.
According to the May 2018 Jobs Report, employment for foreign born workers grew three percent over the last year. In the same time period, employment for native born Americans grew less than 1.5 percent.
Job growth for foreign born men also has continued growing faster than job growth for native born men. In the last year, employment for foreign born male workers has grown 2.7 percent, while employment for native born male workers has grown much slower, at 1.7 percent.
The latest report follows months of employment data showing that foreign born workers and immigrants continue to have advantages over native born Americans when it comes to their rapidly growing employment opportunities.
Most recently, Breitbart News reported that employment for foreign born workers grew about four times faster than native born Americans between April 2017 and 2018.
The foreign born population has continued to boom in the U.S. due to mass legal immigration, whereby more than 1.5 million immigrants are admitted to the country every year.
There are now about 44 million foreign born residents living in the U.S., with the majority coming from Mexico, as Breitbart News has reported. Legal and illegal immigrants now make up close to 14 percent of the entire U.S. population — roughly one out of every eight American residents.
Four million young Americans enter the workforce every year, but their job opportunities are further diminished as the U.S. imports roughly two new foreign workers for every four American workers who enter the workforce. Even though researchers say 30 percent of the workforce could lose their jobs due to automation by 2030, the U.S. has not stopped importing more than a million foreign nationals every year.
For blue-collar American workers, mass immigration has not only kept wages down but in many cases decreased wages, as Breitbart News reported. Meanwhile, the U.S. continues importing more foreign nationals with whom working-class Americans are forced to compete. In 2016, the U.S. brought in about 1.8 million mostly low-skilled immigrants.

President Donald Trump said Friday he had a “very good meeting” with Kim Yong Chol, the envoy of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the country’s top nuclear negotiator.
Kim Yong Chol delivered a letter from his boss to Trump during a White House meeting that ended up going for two hours and covered a range of topics, including denuclearization and sanctions. Trump confirmed the meeting with Kim Jong Un scheduled for June 12 in Singapore will go forward as planned; although, he said it will only be a starting point.
“I never said it goes in one meeting,” Trump said. “I think it’s going to be a process, but the relationships are building and that’s a very positive thing.”
“You’re talking about years of hostility, years of problems, years of, really, hatred between so much different nations,” Trump added. “I think you’re going to have a really positive result in the end, not from one meeting.”
