FIGHTING FOR LIFE: Trump Signs Right-To-Try Bill

On Wednesday, President Trump signed the “right-to-try” bill, which now permits terminally ill patients to gain access to experimental medical treatments not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The bill was staunchly supported by Trump and Vice President Pence, along with congressional Republicans. In March 2015, Pence, then governor of Indiana, signed a similar bill into law.

Indiana’s law permitted physicians in the state to prescribe a drug that had passed the first phase of the FDA’s three-phase clinical trial process. The three stages work like this: Phase 1 trials are implemented on between 20 to 80 healthy patients to determine their safety and what is a safe dose. Phase 2 trials involve between 100 and 300 people who could gain from the drug therapy; phase 3 trials involve the testing of hundreds and sometimes thousands of patients who would benefit.

As he signed the bill, accompanied by terminally ill patients and their families, Trump stated, “Thousands of terminally ill Americans will finally have hope, and the fighting chance, and I think it’s going to better than a chance, that they will be cured, they will be helped, and be able to be with their families for a long time, or maybe just for a longer time.”

Democrats and public health groups have opposed the bill, arguing that patients would be endangered.

Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.), ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said, “FDA oversight of access to experimental treatments exists for a reason — it protects patients from potential snake oil salesmen or from experimental treatments that might do more harm than good.”

But Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) and health subcommittee chairman Michael Burgess (R-Texas) countered, “While a long time coming, today is a monumental win for patients desperately seeking the ‘right to try’ investigational treatments and therapies. With ‘right to try’ being the law of the land, we are confident that the Trump Administration, and FDA Commissioner [Scott] Gottlieb, will take both congressional intent and the safety of patients into consideration when implementing this important law.”

More Companies Accused of Using Facebook to Exclude Older Job Applicants

Ikea, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and the University of Maryland Medical System have been added to a lawsuit which alleges certain companies routinely use Facebook advertisement targeting to exclude older people from job applications.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Communications Workers of America “added claims under California’s fair employment and unfair competition statutes to the lawsuit, which was initially filed in December.”

“The Communications Workers of America is suing on behalf of union members and other job seekers who allegedly missed out on employment opportunities because companies used Facebook’s ad tools to target people of other ages,” the Chicago Tribune explained. “The original filing named defendants are Amazon.com Inc., Cox Media Group, Cox Communications Inc. and T-Mobile, as well as what the union estimates to be hundreds of employers and employment agencies who used Facebook’s tools to filter out older job hunters when seeking to fill positions.”

“When Facebook’s own algorithm disproportionately directs ads to younger workers at the exclusion of older workers, Facebook and the advertisers who are using Facebook as an agent to send their advertisements are engaging in disparate treatment,” the complaint declared.

Last year, Amazon, Verizon, Goldman Sachs, Target, and Facebook itself were accused by ProPublica of using the practice to exclude certain demographics.

Despite the fact that Washington employment lawyer Debra Katz claimed the practice was “blatantly unlawful,” Facebook disagreed, arguing it was “an accepted industry practice.”

“In the last year ProPublica has uncovered a number of different flaws in our advertising systems. Several of them were serious failures on our part. It’s why we apologized and took immediate action to prevent them in future,” declared Facebook Vice President Rob Goldman in a statement. “Today ProPublica has raised new concerns about companies, including our own marketing team, using Facebook to show recruitment ads to specific age groups. We have carefully reviewed their concerns — and this time we disagree.”

“First, our own advertisements. Facebook tailors our employment ads by audience. For example, we may use pictures of women or older people depending on the context. These individual ads are part of broader-based recruitment efforts designed to reach all ages and all backgrounds,” Goldman expressed. “We completely reject the allegation that these advertisements are discriminatory.”

Colorado Sheriff’s Office Waging Costly War On Black Market Marijuana

Legalizing marijuana was going to stop the illegal marijuana trade and bring in revenue to Colorado.

Via KKTV:

Right now, there is more black market marijuana on our streets than ever before, that’s according to the El Paso County Sheriff. And, more illegal marijuana grows translates into mounting costs for taxpayers. El Paso County will spend thousands tracking them down and then getting rid of the product.

he Sheriff’s Office estimates they’ve seized roughly 5,200 marijuana plants since January 1 in the county. All of the seized plants and processed marijuana ends up in huge storage containers owned by EPSO. Once its there, the marijuana is dried out, shredded, and then turned into mulch.

“It constantly drags on our resources,” said Sheriff Bill Elder. “We spend about $1,200 every time we go to destroy a container full of marijuana.” Lt. Bill Huffor added, “This is I think the third time that we’ve had to empty out our storage because it fills up so quickly.”

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says it costs law enforcement on both the front and back ends to find illegal marijuana and get rid of it. There is a cost on the front end to take down the grows, and then on the back end to destroy the product.

“Our SWAT team will execute close to 300 warrants this year. Now, you factor in the point that over 200 of those will be marijuana search warrants. That is huge,” said Sheriff Elder. “It’s probably two times what they would normally work.”

Sheriff Bill Elder says criminals are taking advantage of loopholes in our laws, like the number of plants that can be legally grown. When medical marijuana was first legalized in Colorado, people were allowed to have 99 plants per location. People also had the option to pass them off and grow for up to 5 other people, so you could have up to 600 plants.

“We let the genie out of the bottle in 2000 when we legalized medical marijuana and we didn’t put the caps on it,” said Sheriff Elder. “I would urge any other state that is going to legalize marijuana grows to learn by these mistakes. This has been a grand experiment on how to produce marijuana in an uncontrolled environment and unregulated environment. We’ve been chasing our tails ever since.”

Trump Compliments Young Boy With Muscular Dystrophy — The Boy’s Response Makes The Room Melt

Sweet, and an important bill to sign.

Via Daily Caller:

Trump signed the “Right to Try” bill today at the White House Wednesday, surrounded onstage patients with debilitating diseases who will benefit from the legislation.

One of those was Jordan McLinn. McLinn is battling muscular dystrophy, a terminal illness. McLinn and his family have been lobbying Congress to pass federal “Right to Try” legislation.

“Right to Try” loosens regulations on experimental drugs and treatments for individuals suffering from terminal diseases. The legislation bypasses the laborious FDA testing process to expedite treatment for the suffering individuals.

The 9-year-old McLinn has been the face of the legislation, which Trump signed into law Wednesday.

This Alleged Quote From Barack Obama Shows Just How Narcissistic He Was

According to a new memoir from former Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications and consummate liar Ben Rhodes, after President Trump’s election in 2016, Barack Obama once again hoisted his narcissistic self to the heavens, thinking how visionary he was as he mused, “Sometimes I wonder whether I was 10 or 20 years too early.”

According to Rhodes, Obama’s comments were prompted by his aides telling him he would have defeated Trump if he had run for a third term and that the next generation would have preferred him to Trump.

As The New York Times reports, after Mr. Trump’s election, according to Rhodes, Obama vacillated from anger (calling Trump a “cartoon figure”) to taking the “long view.” Rhodes quoted Obama thinking of how Trump would undo what he had done, then alluding to “The Godfather,” saying, “I feel like Michael Corleone. I almost got out.”

Rhodes writes that aides wanted Obama to respond to criticism that he should be more vocal about Russian intruding on the U.S. election, but Obama demurred, allegedly saying, . “I talk about it every time I’m asked. What else are we going to do? We’ve warned folks.”

Rhodes adds that Obama thought Trump would claim the election was rigged if Obama spoke out, saying, “If I speak out more, he’ll just say it’s rigged.”

Rhodes writes that Obama said despairingly of Trump’s victory, “Maybe this is what people want. I’ve got the economy set up well for him. No facts. No consequences. They can just have a cartoon.”

Rhodes writes that when Obama and Trump met, Trump focused on the size of the crowds that he and Obama could draw that Hillary Clinton could not. Rhodes claims when Obama spoke with aides afterward, he said, “I’m trying to place him in American history,” prompting Rhodes to respond that Trump peddled bull, adding, “That character has always been part of the American story. You can see it right back to some of the characters in Huckleberry Finn.”

Obama allegedly answered, “Maybe that’s the best we can hope for.”

Harvey Weinstein Indicted On Rape Charges

On Wednesday, movie producer Harvey Weinstein, 66, was indicted on charges of rape and a criminal sexual act, according to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance.

Vance released this statement:

A Grand Jury has voted to indict Harvey Weinstein on charges of Rape in the First and Third Degrees, and Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree. This indictment brings the defendant another step closer to accountability for the crimes of violence with which he is now charged. Our office will try this case not in the press, but in the courtroom where it belongs. The defendant’s recent assault on the integrity of the survivors and the legal process is predictable. We are confident that when the jury hears the evidence, it will reject these attacks out of hand. I thank the heroic survivors for their strength throughout this process. I also thank Commissioner James O’Neill and members of the New York City Police Department for their dedication to this case. This investigation remains active and ongoing. We continue to urge additional survivors and others with relevant information to call us at 212-335-9373.

Weinstein, the co-founder of the Miramax film studio and the Weinstein Company, had been arrested last Friday and was freed on $1 million cash bail ordered by a judge; roughly 70 women have accused Weinstein of one form or another of sexual misconduct.

Ben Brafman, head of Weinstein’s legal team, said Weinstein would plead not guilty; Weinstein could serve between five and 25 years in prison. Brafman stated, “Mr. Weinstein intends to enter a plea of not guilty and vigorously defend against these unsupported allegations that he strongly denies. We will soon formally move to dismiss the indictment and if this case actually proceeds to trial, we expect Mr. Weinstein to be acquitted.”

The indictment stems from accusations from two women; police said the alleged crimes occurred in 2004 and 2013.

Author of Debunked NYT Crowd Size Story Depressed Kids at Trump Rally Don’t Trust MSM ‘Fake News’

Before falsifying President Donald Trump’s crowd size at a Nashville, Tennessee, rally on Tuesday evening, New York Times reporter Julie Davis said she was depressed that an “adorable young boy” at Trump’s rally was screaming “FAKE NEWS!” at legacy media reporters.

Davis then promptly wrote in her Times report that just 1,000 were at rally when at least 5,5000 people attended the event. The Times was forced to issue a correction on Wednesday after Trump blasted the outlet for disparaging and demeaning his supporters.

“The Failing and Corrupt @nytimes estimated the crowd last night at ‘1000 people,’ when in fact it was many times that number – and the arena was rockin’. This is the way they demean and disparage,” Trump tweeted. “They are very dishonest people who don’t ‘get’ me, and never did!”

In its correction, the Times said an earlier version “cited an incorrect figure for the number of people attending President Trump’s rally.”

“While no exact figure is available, the fire marshal’s office estimated that approximately 5,500 people attended the rally, not about 1,000 people,” the correction added.

Breitbart News reporter Michael Patrick Leahy attended the event and estimated more than 8,000 people were in attendance. Trump’s campaign issued a Wednesday statement that agreed with Breitbart News’ estimate.

“President Trump hosted over 8,000 patriotic Americans at our rally in Nashville last night, but the New York Times wants to mislead and deceive its declining readership by claiming that we had an ‘audience of about 1,000,’” Trump Campaign Chief Operating Officer Michael Glassner said in a Wednesday statement. “This is yet another blatant attempt by the fake news media to deny the truth about President Trump’s success and diminish the reality of the Trump movement.”
