Right-Wing Animal Rights Group Exposes USDA’s Deadly Taxpayer-Funded Tests on Kittens and is Fighting to Stop Them

Right-Wing Animal Rights Group Exposes USDA’s Deadly Taxpayer-Funded Tests on Kittens and is Fighting to Stop Them

A new investigation from White Coat Waste Project has exposed that taxpayers have been funding cruel and deadly tests on kittens in a secretive U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland.

The right-wing organization is now working with Congress to stop it.

WCW prides themselves on being both animal lovers and liberty lovers. Their goal, according to their website, is to “STOP taxpayer-funded experiments on dogs, monkeys, cats and other animals, we must stop wasteful government spending. Our approach? Drain the swamp: cut federal spending that hurts animals and Americans.”

According to their new report, documents obtained by WCW through the Freedom of Information Act include their experimental protocols, animal purchase orders and photographs.

The documents reveal that a USDA Agricultural Research Service laboratory “breeds 100 kittens a year, feeds the 2-month-old kittens Toxoplasma-infected raw meat, collects their feces for 2-3 weeks to harvest the parasite for use in other experiments, and then kills, bags and incinerates the kittens like they’re trash.”

“The USDA kills all of the kittens, even though it admits that virtually all of them are healthy after the experiments. Expert authorities–including the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention–agree that Toxoplasma-exposed cats are safe and adoptable because after just one Toxoplasma exposure, cats shed the parasite, become immune and won’t transmit to humans or other animals,” the report adds.

The USDA currently spends $650,000 of taxpayer’s money annually on the testing.

Congressman Mike Bishop (R-MI), who has been at the forefront of the efforts to end taxpayer funded animal testing, is now demanding answers. Following the release of WCW’s findings, he sent a strongly worded letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue accusing the USDA of using “kittens as test tubes.”

“Put simply, it creates life to destroy life,” he added. “While I support the objective of making food safer and protecting people and animals from infectious diseases, we must ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively, efficiently and humanely.”

Bishop has now joined forces with House Agriculture Committee member Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) to introduce a bill called the KITTEN Act to end the wasteful and cruel killing.

“I’m proud to introduce the bipartisan KITTEN Act to put a stop to USDA’s tax-funded experiments on cats and kittens. My constituents and other Americans have made it clear that they don’t want the federal government spending their hard-earned tax dollars to abuse and kill cats in cruel, inhumane and outdated experiments. The USDA must stop killing kittens, and I hope to work collaboratively with the agency towards that goal,” Bishop said in a statement about the bill.

According to a 2016 poll by Lincoln Park Strategies, 75% of US voters oppose cat experiments.

In 2018, Congress enacted legislation that cut funding for dog experiments at the VA, largely due to work done by WCW.

I Spy: The Media and President Lyndon Baines….Obama?

Hmmm. President Lyndon Obama?

So finally, someone stands up to remind the media that when it comes to the FBI and CIA spying on a political opponent of a president –  America has in fact been here before.

Admittedly, it helps to have been around at the time of the Johnson-Goldwater election in 1964. Not to call attention to age, but I was an eager-beaver eighth grader from a Republican family who, wonderfully ignorant about the history of the American Left, crusaded in my own fashion for LBJ. To my parents’ eye-rolling, head-shaking resignation.  The GOP nominee, the “Mr. Conservative,” Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, was taking all kinds of flak of a type I would later come to understand in vivid fashion. The media of the day was ripe with suggestions that the libertarian Goldwater was a racist (horrifically untrue) and, but of course, had an affection for Nazis.

Indeed, the very week Goldwater was nominated in San Francisco, CBS’s Daniel Schorr went on the air with a report that once the GOP Convention was over, Goldwater will be “starting his campaign…in…..Bavaria, center of Germany’s right wing.” Where specifically in Bavaria? Why, but of course, “Berchtesgaden, Hitler’s onetime stamping ground.”

The story was false from beginning to end. Goldwater wasn’t going to Germany, much less to “Hitler’s onetime stamping ground.” A particularly insulting attack on a man who was not simply a senator and presidential nominee but had served as a U.S. Army Air Force pilot in World War II, later retiring with the rank of Major General.  Be that as it may, CBS had said it was so until it was clear it wasn’t. Goldwater was still fuming about this media characterization of him as some sort Nazi decades later when writing his memoirs.

But there was another story from that 1964 campaign – and it comes to mind as the media goes crazy over the Trump charge that the FBI and CIA were busy implanting spies in his campaign – “Spygate” as the branding President has named it.  None other than the redoubtable Dr. Lee Edwards, now of the Heritage Foundation but in 1964 a Goldwater staffer and later the Senator’s biographer (Goldwater: The Man Who Made a Revolution)  has stepped forward to remind – not for the first time – that in 1964 America in fact had a president who was using both the FBI and the CIA to spy on his opponent. Writing in the Wall Street Journal,  Dr. Edwards dips back into his Goldwater biography to remind in his headline:

The FBI Spied for LBJ’s Campaign
On the president’s orders, the bureau wiretapped Barry Goldwater’s plane and headquarters.

Writes Edwards:

In 1971 Robert Mardian, who had been a regional director in the Goldwater campaign, became (in the Nixon administration) assistant attorney general for internal security. During a two-hour briefing with Hoover, Mardian asked about the procedures for electronic surveillance. To Mardian’s amazement, Hoover confessed that in 1964 the FBI had wired the Goldwater campaign plane, under orders from the White House. When Mardian asked Hoover why he had complied, the director answered, “You do what the president tells you to do.”

In a later conversation with Mardian, William C. Sullivan, the bureau’s No. 2 man, verified the FBI’s spying operation against the Goldwater campaign. In a 1992 interview, Mardian told me that Sullivan was appalled at LBJ’s partisan use of the bureau.”

And also:

(President) Johnson also illegally ordered the FBI to conduct security checks of Goldwater’s Senate staff. Cartha “Deke” DeLoach, the FBI’s liaison with the White House and a top aide to Director J. Edgar Hoover, denied at a 1975 Congressional hearing that the bureau had investigated Goldwater’s staff. But through the Freedom of Information Act, I obtained copies of FBI memoranda detailing the results of the bureau’s illegal file check of 15 Senate staffers. “No derogatory information was located concerning” any of the people in Goldwater’s Senate office, stated one memo that bore DeLoach’s initials.”

Of the CIA, Edwards notes:

Former intelligence officer E. Howard Hunt, best known for his role as an orchestrator of the Watergate bugging, told a Senate committee in 1973 that his CIA superior had ordered him to infiltrate the Goldwater campaign. Hunt claimed to have questioned the order, only to be told that it had been a personal request of President Johnson and that the information he recovered would be delivered to a White House aide.

CIA Director William Colby confirmed the White House’s role in the illegal surveillance while addressing a congressional hearing in 1975. That the CIA is prohibited by law from operating within the U.S. didn’t matter to the Johnson campaign. The Goldwater people never suspected that one of them was a spy for the Democrats.”

Now. Question. Where was the liberal media in 1964 on this hot story? Answer, all too predictably, exactly nowhere. Not a peep of this made the liberal media of the day, much less did this explode into a massive scandal along the lines of what Dr. Edwards once called, quite accurately, “Johnson’s Watergate.” Why? The liberal media of the day was the only media of the day.

Be that as it may, the fact that a president would use the FBI and CIA to spy on his opponents is established. With that in mind, where is the liberal media feeding frenzy on this news from, yes, not 1964 – but today? Fox News (but of course!) has done its due diligence and headlines:

Grassley rips Strzok-Page redactions amid mystery text: Obama ‘White House is running this’

This jewel of a story says, in part, this, bold print supplied:

A top Senate Republican is challenging the Justice Department over extensive redactions made in files showing text messages between anti-Trump FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, drew particular attention to one text that suggested the Obama ‘White House is running this,’ in reference to an unspecified investigation.

But, like in so many of the files, a name was redacted and the context was unclear, though one report suggests that was related to the Russia probe.

In a letter sent Wednesday to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Grassley called for all redactions to be removed.

‘The manner in which some redactions have been used casts doubt on whether the remaining redactions are necessary and defensible,’ Grassley wrote.”

Then there was also the text from Lisa Page on September 2, 2016, which said to her lover, Strzok, that: “potus wants to know everything we’re doing.” “POTUS”, of course, is the acronymn for “President of the United States.”

And the media reaction here? Ho-hum.

Here is a central fact, a fact that Dr. Edwards’ reminder raises and should raise. America has already had a president who used the FBI and the CIA to spy on his political opponent. And the media of the day had not the slightest curiosity — then or later — to investigate. No, there was no such thing as Fox news or even cable news in that time, much less talk radio and the Internet. Which makes it all the more curious — make that predictable — why the mainstream media of the day didn’t investigate LBJ’s abuse of the FBI and CIA for political purposes.

That being the case, this reminder of events from Dr. Edwards should serve as a prod for today’s media to take a hard look at these texts from the FBI’s star-crossed anti-Trump-hating lovers Strozk and Page that pose the obvious question about President Obama that was once famously asked by the late Tennessee Republican Senator Howard Baker during Watergate.

That question: “What did the President know- and when did he know it?”

One can be justifiably suspicious that the reason for all the bureaucratic foot-dragging by the Justice Department and the FBI today is nothing more than a stall, a slow-walking obstruction to get past a supposed “Blue Wave” election in which Democrats will supposedly take charge and remove the power to investigate from the Devin Nunes’ and Charles Grassleys of the House and Senate, effectively shutting the investigation of “Spygate” down.

With a compliant media cheering them on in a campaign of silence surrounding any serious investigation into a possible abuse of the FBI and CIA by the Obama White House -not at all unlike the media silence that surrounded the LBJ use of the FBI and CIA to spy on the 1964 Goldwater campaign.

President Lyndon Obama? One way or another, the American people have a right to know. And the media has an obligation to report the truth.

Brother Of Parkland Victim Slams David Hogg’s Publix ‘Die-in,’ Lists ‘Who People Should Be Protesting’

18-1958 refers to the Parkland shooter, that’s his case number.

Hunter Pollack and his father are focused on school safety and they believe that the gun control focus is distracting from basic safety that can be done to help secure schools with things like armed security, single-point entry and metal detectors.

Florida-Based Publix Grocery Store Chain Intimidated by Teen Tyrant David Hogg’s ‘Die-ins,’ Suspends Political Contributions

Florida-Based Publix Grocery Store Chain Intimidated by Teen Tyrant David Hogg ‘Die-ins,’ Suspends Political Contributions

Publix grocery store chain is a longtime supporter of conservative causes and has publicly announced its support of Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam, who strongly backs the National Rifle Association.

However, shortly after anti-gun activist David Hogg and other anti-gun protesters staged “die-ins” in Orlando and Coral Springs Florida on Friday, Publix announced it would suspend political donations in the wake of Hogg’s organized protest.

“At Publix, we respect the students and members of the community who have chosen to express their voices on these issues,” the grocery store said in a statement. “We regret that our contributions have led to a divide in our community. We did not intend to put our associates and the customers they serve in the middle of a political debate. At the same time, we remain committed to maintaining a welcoming shopping environment for our customers.

“We would never knowingly disappoint our customers or the communities we serve,” the statement continued. “As a result, we decided earlier this week to suspend corporate-funded political contributions as we reevaluate our giving processes.”

A Publix customer service representative spoke with Gateway Pundit’s Kristinn Taylor Friday and said that the company is only suspending contributions while it reviews the situation and that it is not rescinding any donations.

Hogg is demanding Publix donate $1 million to the Stoneman Douglass student fund.

The representative assured Gateway Pundit that Publix has not yet decided whether it will provide the $1 million donation .

Publix is one of Putnam’s biggest contributors.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan group that tracks funding and lobbying efforts, the grocery store donated over $118,000 to Putnam’s campaigns from 1999 to 2012. Putnam, who has served as Florida state agricultural commissioner since 2010, is running in this year’s election to replace Rick Scott as governor.

Putnam is an outspoken supporter of the NRA. He tweeted on July 25, 2017, “The liberal media recently called me a sellout to the NRA. I’m a proud #NRASellout!” He was given an A+ by the NRA in its ratings in 2010, prompting Hogg and his legion of gun control activists to protest Publix.

After the Tampa Bay Times reported Publix donated $650,000 Putnam last week, Hogg started campaigning against Putnam and Publix, calling for a for people to “die in” at the store until it rescinded its endorsement of the candidate.

Hogg’s followers laid in the aisles of Publix grocery stores for 15 minutes on Friday, blocking customers from shopping.

After Publix announced its decision to halt political donations, Hogg tweeted “Together we can do anything.”

“Reparations Happy Hour” Is The New Trend

“Reparations Happy Hour” Is The New Trend

Are you a guilty, rich white liberal with a kush government job getting paid to shuffle around papers in some useless bureau for $90,000 a year and harbors internalized racism? Well now you can absolve your white guilt with the new Reparations Happy Hour. That’s right, the aforementioned guilty white liberals can show up to a bar in Portland, Oregon and give away free money to black folks so they can booze it up. I’m sure these white liberals feel a lot better about themselves with that burden of whiteness off their shoulders now.

The Oregonian reports:

It’s been four years since Ta-Nehisi Coates made an exhaustive case for reparations in the pages of The Atlantic.

And on Monday, white Portlanders who agree with the idea had the chance to kick in $10 and buy a drink for a neighbor of color. It was an event billed as a “reparations happy hour” by prominent local activist Cameron Whitten, 27, and hosted by Brown Hope, a nonprofit he co-founded.

The premise was simple: Black, brown and indigenous folks could show up and collect $10 at the door donated by their white neighbors. In total, 40 people attended Monday’s event.

“The best part for me was showing up like Portland Oprah and see their eyes light up when I handed them $10,” Whitten said. “Because it was about more than that.”

The reparations happy hour signified the transformation of an idea that progressive Portlanders support into something tangible for the city’s residents of color.

“We do a lot of talking. We do a lot of making excuses,” Whitten said. “But how often do we actually recognize and acknowledge someone’s suffering? We’re so used to being denied any sort of justice that $10 is a respite.”

In fact, the longtime activist, best known for a 55-day hunger strike in front of City Hall to protest housing issues and his presence on the front lines of the many Portland demonstrations during the first year of the Trump administration, recruited seven white allies to fend off possible threats from alt-right groups threatening to disrupt the happy hour.

“We see a lot of folks who want to paint us in a bad light just because black, brown and indigenous people want a safe space,” Whitten said.

The happy hour is just one of many events Whitten and Brown Hope are organizing to address inequality across the city. He’s finalizing details for another event in August. And fundraising is currently in the works for a $2,000 Brown Hope Prize for an individual or group that promotes the organization’s core mission.

“Our goal is to heal from the disease of racism. And we see that happening through deep civic empowerment and through trauma-informed activism,” he said.

The Root adds:

Let’s get drinks, but make it reparations.

To be fair, I’m not certain what that means, but apparently Portland, Ore., is now the place to go if you want to take part in a Reparations Happy Hour, where black attendees get $10 cash, mainly from white donors.

According to Raw Story, the event, which happened for the first time Tuesday night, was thought up by longtime social justice organizer Cameron Whitten and organized through his new group Brown Hope.

“It’s exactly what it sounds like,” Whitten said, according to the site. “What I want to do is end the cycle of exploitation. For black, brown, indigenous people, you face so many barriers, whether it’s tokenization or straight-up poverty.”

Whitten says that several white people donated and signed up to be regular, monthly donors. He’s also gotten donations from black people, too.

“I felt so good. That was my best part of the night, just giving out that money,” he added. “I feel like Oprah—like, fuck, I’m Portland’s Oprah right now. And I want to give more than $10.”

As Raw Story notes, Whitten is known throughout Portland politics. He held a 55-day hunger strike at City Hall over the city’s housing crisis and then exposed the racism within a city housing-advocacy group. In one particularly shocking incident, white activists in the group were caught mocking an indigenous person’s request not to sing “This Land Is Your Land” and locked the individual out of the room and sang the song loudly. The white woman at the head of the housing group ended up resigning because of Whitten’s work.

Whitten was recently fired from the city’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement, an act that he says is a result of racism and for which he is seeking to file a lawsuit, according to Raw Story.

“In Portland in general, when they say ‘people of color,’ they mean light-skin, white-passing Asian and Latino,” he said. “Very often we don’t see black people in charge of things. And we see a lot of anti-blackness.”

“This is a hostile environment,” he added, noting that was why many black friends of his have left the city. “They don’t die physically, but they leave Portland because they’re not getting what they need to nourish their spirit here.”

It is through events like the happy hour that Whitten hopes black and brown people can start to feel more comfortable in the city.

If you’re a guilty white liberal who feels the need to absolve themselves of their whiteness and inner racism, you can donate to Whitten’s organization on their Donor Box page right here.

I suppose the real question is what would happen if Rachel Dolezal and Shaun King walk in and demand a cut of the loot?

Poll on Trump’s ‘Animals’ Comment Hands the President Another Big Win

It seems every time the mainstream media throws a tantrum, President Donald Trump ends up winning.

The latest in a long line of media meltdowns involved the president’s description of MS-13 as “animals.”

At first, the press tried to skew or even outright lie about the comment, and falsely reported that Trump had been speaking about all immigrants and not specifically violent gang members.

Even after the media was forced to admit that Trump was answering a question about the infamous El Salvadorian gang, which is known to rape, murder and behead, they continued to criticize his comment.

Numerous pundits ended up essentially siding with the violent gang, while wringing their hands about how calling them “animals” was demeaning and dehumanizing.

You would think gang members cutting off someone’s head would do a pretty good job at dehumanizing themselves, but we digress.

Now, the left-leaning media is being forced to eat crow once again. It turns out that not just conservatives but the majority of all Americans agree with Trump, and had no problem with his remarks.

“Fifty-six percent of American adults in the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll said referring to members of the gang as ‘animals’ is fair, compared to 44 percent who said the characterization was unfair,” reported The Hill.

Do you think calling MS-13 “animals” is fair?

Remember, those numbers include people from all over the political spectrum. Amazingly, there were actually more Democrats asked the poll question than Republicans, skewing the result somewhat.

“The Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll online survey of 1,347 registered voters was conducted May 21-22. The partisan breakdown is 37 percent Democrat, 32 percent Republican, 29 percent independent and 2 percent other,” The Hill explained.

Even with that factor giving a slight over-sampling advantage to Democrats, the majority still sided with Trump’s comment.

This is the unacknowledged genius of the president, and the mainstream media keeps playing directly into his hands. Trump says something that he knows the majority of Americans agree with, and uses blunt language like everyday people.

Elitists in the media, increasingly isolated from the citizenry in their own echo chambers, squawk and gnash their teeth. Like moths to a flame, they cannot help but attack Trump… and in the process, begin defending things like MS-13.

RELATED: Trump Delivers What May Be the Best Line of His Presidency at Naval Graduation

The result is that Trump is seen as being on the same page as the people, while the mainstream media paints themselves into a corner and appear even more out of touch and ridiculous than before.

That’s exactly what the commander in chief himself pointed out in a recent tweet discussing both the “animals” controversy and North Korea.

“Democrats are so obviously rooting against us in our negotiations with North Korea. Just like they are coming to the defense of MS 13 thugs, saying that they are individuals & must be nurtured, or asking to end your big Tax Cuts & raise your taxes instead. Dems have lost touch!” he posted.

Say what you want about Trump, but he seems to have an instinct for tripping up his opponents and tuning in to the pulse of the people.

This drives the establishment insane, but it’s incredibly refreshing to see the president — and the American people — vindicated for simply speaking the truth about the world.

BACKLASH: Publix Gets Slammed For Caving To Far-Left Activists; Customers Leaving

The Florida-based grocery store chain Publix is facing severe backlash after they caved to far-left activist David Hogg and his intimidation tactics on Friday as many customers are now saying they will no longer shop at the store.

Hogg and other far-left activists laid on the floor of the grocery store for 720 seconds – which Hogg falsely claimed is a second for each mass shooting that has happened in the U.S. since the Pulse nightclub massacre – and screamed for a boycott of the store.

The boycott came after it was revealed that the grocery store had donated money to a politician in the past who had described himself as a major advocate for the NRA and the Second Amendment.

Following Publix’s decision to cave to the far-left activists, many people announced that they were no longer going to be shopping at the store:

Obama claims his presidency was scandal-free. But here are all of Obama’s White House scandals.

President Barack Obama claimed this week that his eight-year administration was free of political scandals. His comments came during a technology conference in Las Vegas.

“I didn’t have scandals, which seems like it shouldn’t be something you brag about. But actually, if you look at the history of the modern presidency, coming out of the modern presidency without anybody going to jail is really good. It’s a big deal,” Obama said, according to Newsweek.

Unfortunately for Obama, his comments don’t stand up to the facts.

Here are Obama’s political scandals:

  • The ATF-led “Operation Fast & Furious”
  • The 2012 Benghazi attack
  • The Clinton Foundation’s pay-for-play scheme
  • Uranium One
  • The Department of Justice’s tracking of journalists, including Fox News’ James Rosen
  • The Veteran’s Affairs scandal
  • The Hillary Clinton private email scandal
  • The IRS targeting of conservative groups
  • The Solyndra scandal
  • NSA spying on Americans and the PRISM program, exposed by whistleblowers
  • Obama’s nuclear Iran deal
  • Obama’s intervention in Syria and subsequent failure to act on his “red line” declaration

Anything else?

Obama and other top members from his administration have made similar claims since President Donald Trump assumed office last January, despite the overwhelming amount of facts that disprove their outright dishonesty.

Even Obama’s messaging has not been consistent. He admitted earlier this year that his administration “didn’t have a scandal that embarrassed us.” At that private event, Obama never disputed his administration had scandals, like he did publicly this week.

John McCain: ‘Go To Hell’ If You Don’t Like That I Passed Pee Dossier To FBI

McCain trying to sabotage another campaign same as he did with his.

Via Breitbart:

In his newly released book, Sen. John McCain admits he knew the anti-Trump dossier that he infamously passed to the FBI contained “unproven accusations,” “mostly raw, unverified intelligence” and allegations about which the senator “had no idea” if “any were true.”

Yet McCain maintains he had an “obligation” to pass the wild charges against Donald Trump to FBI Director James Comey and he would even do it again. “Anyone who doesn’t like it can go to hell,” McCain exclaimed.

In the book The Restless Wave, McCain provides an inside account of how he says he came across the dossier.

He writes that he was told about the claims in the document at a security conference in Canada in November 2016, where he was approached by Sir Andrew Wood, a former British ambassador to Moscow and friend of ex-British spy Christopher Steele, the author of the dossier.

McCain wrote that Wood told him Steele “had been commissioned to investigate connections between the Trump campaign and Russian agents as well as potentially compromising information about the President-elect that Putin allegedly possessed.”

McCain, however, did not address the obvious question of whether he was told exactly who “commissioned” Steele to “investigate” the alleged Russian ties.

The dossier was commissioned by the controversial Fusion GPS opposition research firm, which was paid for its anti-Trump work by Trump’s primary political opponents, namely Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) via the Perkins Coie law firm.

McCain goes on to describe Wood as telling him Steele’s work “was mostly raw, unverified intelligence, but that the author strongly believed merited a thorough examination by counterintelligence experts.”

The politician says the dossier claims described to him were “too strange a scenario to believe, something out of a le Carré novel, not the kind of thing anyone has ever actually had to worry about with a new President, no matter what other concerns.”

James Caan: God Made Men and Women to be Attracted to Each Other but Our Culture is In a ‘Strange Place’ Now

Hollywood screen legend James Caan says the world is becoming a “very strange” place as a growing number of men face upheaval of their careers over allegations of sexual harassment.

Speaking hours after Hollywood veteran Morgan Freeman was accused of by several women of engaging in “inappropriate behavior,” the 78-year-old was asked his opinion on reports that Freeman could lose multiple endorsements as a result of the allegations.

“No comments on Morgan he’s a good guy,” The Godfather star told a TMZ reporter outside Craig’s restaurant in West Hollywood. “We’re becoming a very strange place. You know, I think that’s why God made men and women, so they could be attracted to each other.”

After decades-old allegations against movie producer Harvey Weinstein were uncovered by The New York Times last October, major figures within Hollywood and other entertainment industries became subject to waves of allegations of sexual harassment.

“Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy,” Freeman said in a statement on Thursday. “I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent.”

Caan is not the only figure to suggest that the #MeToo movement, at least in some cases, has morphed into a witch hunt. Similar sentiments have also been echoed by the likes of talk show host Tavis Smiley, Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Haneke, and the iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve.
