Ron Bassilian is running for California’s 37th Congressional district as a Republican in 2018.

Bassilian has been employed in the IT world mostly working on Exchange, Microsoft’s enterprise e-mail solution.

Recently, Ron Bassilian discovered the US Center for Disease Control was diverting taxpayer dollars, at least $3 million, to a local liberal group to far left campaigns.

A friend of mine had a similar college life to me, he went on to do political advocacy and I went on to the private sector.  So imagine my pleasant surprise when we find each other on Facebook a couple years ago, and I found out he gets a large check to start his Community Coalition center in South Central Los Angeles.  My memory recalls it at $750,000.

That must be nice, I thought, getting paid to be advocate for poor people.  So I kept tabs on this group, Community Coalition.  And the longer I kept tabs on it, the less I liked what I saw.

I’ve talked about how March for our Lives was a thinly veiled Democrat campaign – follow the money to the DNC, and follow the words to see they really want to smear the NRA and GOP.  Well, here they are funding kids to go speak there.

Check out their other campaigns.  Black Lives Matter, huge settlements for schools, you name it.

Now, why do I say this?  Well, I was trying to look up the donation my friend was bragging about.  Turns out either I was wrong or that wasn’t all.  This organization got a $3 million check from the CDC – a government organization – for “tackling health issues.”  And there handing the check is Karen Bass.

Can someone please explain to me what any of these issues have to do with tackling health?…

…Let’s call this CDC grant for what it is. It’s the heyday of Obama era politics – funneling government money into organizations that just go organize and advocate for the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Party isn’t winning in California because their ideas are better, or they’re more compassionate than conservatives. It’s because they monopolized the racket.

Check out how much accused Boston city employees make while on paid leave

If you follow the news at all you’re probably familiar with the following scenario. A story hits the news cycle about a police officer, municipal worker or aide to some elected official who has been implicated in or charged with a crime or other questionable activity. You don’t want a person under such circumstances being left on the job if they’re potentially up to no good so they wind up being placed on “administrative leave” and it’s very often paid leave. But what happens after that? Some of these investigations can drag on forever, so what happens to the government employee while that’s going on?

In the city of Boston, some reporters set out to find the answer and, at least in Beantown, it’s probably not a very good one from the taxpayer’s point of view. As they discovered, some of these accused individuals remain in this administrative no man’s land for months or even years on end, many collecting full benefits and generous salaries the entire time. We begin with the story of former Boston police lieutenant John Earley who, back in 2015, allegedly left a pub one night, jumped in his pickup truck and crashed into a backhoe that was cleaning up snow from the streets. He was then accused of fleeing the scene. The department brought charges against him and placed him on paid administrative leave. Guess what happened next. (CBS Boston, emphasis added)

In June 2016, a Boston judge dismissed the case, ruling prosecutors had not proven Earley was behind the wheel of his vehicle that night. However, BPD’s internal affairs investigation into the veteran cop continued. In July 2017, the department fired Earley.

By that time, he’d collected checks while staying at home for almost 900 days, earning more than $355,000 during his stint on paid administrative leave.

That was the highest amount received by a City of Boston employee over the past three years, according to records the WBZ I-Team obtained.

Earley was far from the only recipient of such taxpayer largess in this report. Two of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s top aides were under investigation as part of a federal extortion case and remained on paid leave for two years. They collected $410K during that extended vacation. There are many more examples, but the report found that the average duration of a municipal employee on paid administrative leave was nine months and the average compensation they received during that time was $72K. In just the past three years, Boston taxpayers have shelled out five million dollars for paid administrative leave.

If you don’t happen to have a government job, you’re probably wondering how this happens. In the private sector, if you’re under investigation for something awful and it’s a source of embarrassment to your employer, you will likely be unemployed in short order and hoping you qualify for unemployment. But these city workers have powerful unions with rigid contracts making it almost impossible to fire them or even put them on unpaid leave.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans was asked about the situation and if he thought it should be this way. He claims he doesn’t like it more than anyone else, but what’s a civil servant to do?

Evans also said police officers have due process rights spelled out by collective bargaining agreements and civil service rules. Only when officers are criminally indicted can they be placed on unpaid leave.

“I think we are doing a good job policing our officers and are not afraid to bring them to court,” Evans expressed. “We are not brooming these cases. Do I wish it went quicker? Yeah, I wish there was a better way.”

When asked if the lengthy paid leave stints are just something taxpayers have to accept, Evans responded, “No, I’m not saying accept it because we can always improve and we’ll look to improve.”

He wishes there were a better way. May I humbly offer a suggestion? Get a representative of the taxpayers at the table when the public unions are negotiating these contracts rather than just the politicians who accept huge donations from their unions. You might be shocked at the results.

A behind-the-scenes U.S. intelligence community fight over the merits of publicly scorning President Trump has burst into the open recently, with the CIA’s former Moscow station chief accusing Obama-era spymaster John O. Brennan of crossing a red line through incessant Twitter and cable news excoriations of the current commander in chief.

In addition to claiming that Mr. Brennan is aiding a Kremlin plot to deepen America’s partisan divide, former CIA Clandestine Service Officer Daniel Hoffman says the former CIA director has actually jeopardized national security by publicly insinuating that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be blackmailing Mr. Trump.

Mr. Brennan made the insinuation in late-March when he asserted during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Mr. Trump is “afraid of the president of Russia” and that “one can speculate as to why.”

News of former Secretary of State John Kerry’s alleged collusion with the Iranian government played a role in President Donald Trump’s final decision to scuttle the Iran deal, two White House sources with direct knowledge of the president’s thinking tell The Daily Caller.

Trump announced he was pulling out of the deal Tuesday, just a few days after news broke that Kerry had been parlaying with Iran in an attempt to keep the deal.

A source inside the White House with knowledge of the decision process tells TheDC that the Iran deal was “done” when Trump found out about Kerry’s lobbying behind the scenes to keep the agreement in place. “Trump was headed that way but Kerry just took away any of the teeth of the detractors,” the source said on background. “[Kerry’s] bulls**t ultimately killed the deal.”

Former Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said in an interview published this week that she thinks conservatives have an “advantage” because they are “so much more willing to lie, cheat, steal, deceive, break the law — tactics that frankly we don’t use in the progressive community.”

The Department of Justice confirmed in December that Planned Parenthood is under federal investigation in the wake of allegations the abortion chain harvests the body parts of aborted babies to sell for a profit.

In an interview with Salon, Amanda Marcotte asked Richards why she believes “nonprofits like Planned Parenthood” have experienced an “escalation of … attacks.”

Left-wing media often portrays Planned Parenthood as a “nonprofit,” even though the group profits extensively from abortions. Planned Parenthood’s 2016-2017 annual report shows the organization boosted its profits by $21 million, or 27 percent, from the previous year, all the while it took in nearly $544 million in taxpayer funding for its “nonprofit” non-abortion services, many of which are in decline.

Richards responded:

I don’t exactly know what accounts for it. Obviously, there were a couple of groups that specialize in this. I think that one of the things that I see on the right is they are so much more willing to lie, cheat, steal, deceive, break the law — tactics that frankly we don’t use in the progressive community. I do think that they have that advantage. The other is, they’ve got a lot of money. People who really probably could care less about the issue, but have complete focus on undermining any progressive institution that has either capacity or political power.

Richards is making the rounds on talk shows and in interviews to promote her book, Make Trouble.

During the interview, Marcotte said to her:

You write in the book that Planned Parenthood was dealing with fake news before that term even became famous. You were subject to a series of hoaxes, falsely accusing the organization of all sorts of terrible things, including that you sell baby parts. You were called in front of Congress to defend yourself against these ridiculous hoaxes. What is your advice to the rest of us in the age of Trump, when lying and hoaxes unfortunately becoming normal in politics?

“Yeah. Look it’s a big problem,” Richards replied. “I wish I had the magic solution. And I will say that because in many ways, Planned Parenthood was up first, we have worked with so many other organizations who’ve also been targets of these kinds of fake news attacks and undercover videos.”

***Live Updates*** MAGA Candidates Center Stage in WV, IN, OH, NC Primaries

Key GOP primary races will take place tonight in West Virginia, Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina that will feature plenty of “MAGA” candidates, reflecting how much President Donald Trump and his economic nationalist message have taken over the GOP.

Breitbart News Washington Editor Matt Boyle has a preview of the important contests in the four states that Trump carried in 2016.

In West Virginia, controversial candidate Don Blankenship may have a slight lead in the polls against  West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and former Democrat Rep. Evan Jenkins (R-WV). Trump has urged voters to vote for either Jenkins or Morrissey to not allow Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) to keep his seat. But as Boyle pointed out, Morrissey would most likely be well ahead of Blankenship had Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and his allies had not thrown their support behind Jenkins. As Boyle noted, Jenkins did not switch his party affiliation until after Obama’s first term and supported Hillary Clinton for president in 2008. The race has dominated headlines as the media are priming to make Republicans answer for Blankenship should he win.

In Indiana, the three candidates running to challenge vulnerable Democrat Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) in the fall have embraced Trump in what has been a nasty three-way scrum. Reps. Luke Messer (R-IN) and Todd Rokita (R-IN) are longtime rivals while businessman Mike Braun is the third candidate.

In Ohio’s GOP gubernatorial primary,  Mary Taylor battles former Senator Mike DeWine. In Ohio’s GOP Senate primary, Trump has backed Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH) against Mike Gibbons.

Polls close at 7:30 p.m. eastern time in West Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio. In Indiana, polls will close at 6 p.m. central time and eastern time.

6:35 PM: Don Blankenship, who has been blasting McConnell’s “China family” while Blankenship reportedly considering becoming a Chinese citizen in the 1990s, has been angry after Trump asked West Virginians not to vote for him. He told CNN that Trump “will learn a lesson” if he wins and threatened to challenge Trump in a primary if Trump gets in his way.

Blankenship has been telling voters that he is “Trumpier than Trump” even though he has not been talking about economic nationalism for twenty years like Trump had before he decided to run for the presidency.

“He will learn a lesson if I win,” Blankenship reportedly told CNN today. “You shouldn’t blindly go out and endorse or cast doubts or favoritism on anybody unless you actually look at their record and not depend on the people who are running the swamp you are trying to drain.”

According to an interview he did with the New Yorker of all outlets:

We exchanged business cards. He told me to hold on to his for when he’s President. “If Trump gets in my way, I’ll just run against him,” he said.

Soros Drops $1.5 Million in San Diego for Far-Left District Attorney Candidate

Liberal billionaire George Soros has pushed $1.5 million into San Diego’s district attorney race to support a far-left candidate who spoke on a panel hosted by the liberal billionaire last year at the left’s biggest dark money donor conference.

Soros, who has been funding district attorney races across the country in his attempt to reform the criminal justice system, on May 3 deposited $1.5 million into the California Justice & Public Safety PAC. The committee was established to support Geneviéve Jones-Wright, the Democratic candidate and deputy public defender in the county. The PAC is run by Whitney Tymas, a longtime treasurer of Soros PACs.

The PAC disbursed $194,884 on television ads, $100,000 on digital advertising, and $107,575.60 on campaign literature and mailings in recent days, campaign finance records filed in San Diego County show.

Summer Stephan, the current district attorney in San Diego, is highlighting Soros’s influence on the race, launching a website to draw attention to Soros’s involvement. The website, ThreatToSanDiego, states that "anti-law enforcement $$$ is coming into San Diego."

The site, which features a number of quotes and positions from Jones-Wrights, includes a quote from Soros that he has "always harbored an exaggerated view of self importance" and fancied himself as "some sort of god."

Jason Poe, Stephan’s campaign strategist, told the Washington Free Beacon that Jones-Wright "has fully embraced his [Soros’s] positions on decriminalizing sex crimes, closing jails and prisons, and eliminating bail" and added that that she is "committed to not enforcing what she calls ‘quality of life crimes’ like breaking and entering and other things that are not necessarily violent crimes."

Jones-Wright appeared at the Democracy Alliance’s investment conference last fall. Cofounded by Soros, the Democracy Alliance is the left’s biggest dark money group; the conference took place at the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., a half-hour from San Diego.

The Free Beacon obtained documents at that conference showing Jones-Wright’s participation in a Soros hosted panel titled, "Prosecutor Races – Winning Big in 2018?" on the effort to elect far-left progressive candidates across the country.

Soros has already pushed millions into numerous district attorney races across the country backing far-left candidates.

Soros operates similarly in every city: His PAC treasurer will establish a committee as an avenue for him to pour his money to back his preferred candidate. Once the money is parked in the PAC, independent expenditures are made in support of his candidate and against their opponent. Soros then refunds himself any excess money at the conclusion of the race and the PAC is dissolved.

Soros has quietly notched a number of district attorney victories by putting his preferred candidate at a major money advantage for such a race.

Jones-Wright told the Free Beacon she was "thrilled" to have the support of "one of the most generous and progressive donors in the country."

"People talk a lot about the need to close the gap between the rich and the poor, but George Soros puts his money where his values are," Jones-Wright said, who added the money will help even things in a race she claims has been been "rigged."

"It brings a megaphone to the message of true justice and allow communities that have been marginalized by the status quo to have a shot at representation," she continued. "Criminal justice reform is getting the attention it deserves as a life and death issue for communities."

Jones-Wright did not provide a comment on her participation at the Democracy Alliance gathering.

The Media Get Trumped: President’s Polls Improve Despite 90% Negative Coverage

The liberal media’s war against President Trump was as fierce as ever during the first four months of 2018, but the onslaught appears to be for naught: In the face of massive and hostile coverage from ABC, CBS and NBC, Trump’s overall job approval rating actually rose, from 37 percent in mid-December to roughly 43 percent at the end of April.

The Media Research Center studied all broadcast evening news coverage of the President from January 1 through April 30, and found 90 percent of the evaluative comments about Trump were negative — precisely the same hostile tone we documented in 2017.

But unlike last year, when the RealClearPolitics average depicted a slow but steady erosion in the President’s job approval numbers, the public has apparently warmed to Trump in 2018, even as the networks are as frosty as ever.

For this report, MRC analysts examined all 1,065 network evening news stories about President Trump and top members of his administration during the first four months of this year. The coverage totalled a whopping 1,774 minutes, or roughly one-third of all evening news airtime.

(For comparison, in 2015 and 2016, coverage of President Obama amounted to just ten percent of all evening news airtime.)

Nearly two-fifths (39%) of the TV coverage we examined focused on Trump scandals and controversies, while 45 percent was devoted to various policy issues. The remaining airtime was spent on controversies involving other top Trump officials, such as EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, or did not involve specific topics.

The Russia “collusion” story was given by far the most airtime — 321 minutes, or nearly one-fifth of all Trump administration coverage. The legal battle involving porn star Stormy Daniels, as well as allegations against the President involving other women, ate up another 92 minutes of airtime.

Network coverage of those topics, plus a host of other smaller controversies involving the President, was almost entirely negative: of the 598 statements we tallied about Trump’s personal controversies or scandals, virtually all of them (579, or 97%) were negative.

(As always, our analysis of “spin” tracks only explicitly positive and negative statements from reporters and non-partisan sources; it excludes neutral statements as well as statements from partisans such as Trump praising himself or Democrats criticizing him.)

When it came to policy matters, the President fared somewhat better — but only in contrast. Of the 542 opinionated statements involving a policy matter, 440 (81%) were negative, compared with 102 (19%) which were positive.

The policy stories earning the most TV airtime in 2018 were immigration (167 minutes), the economy (117 minutes), North Korea (111 minutes), Syria (89 minutes) and gun rights (57 minutes). The networks’ spin on immigration, Syria and gun rights was extremely negative (between 88% and 96% negative). And, despite the potential of a breakthrough with North Korea, the coverage of that topic was tilted two-to-one against the President (68% negative vs. 32% positive).

The President’s handling of the economy was a mixed bag. A majority of the networks’ airtime (66 minutes) was devoted to Trump’s decision to impose tariffs and threaten a wider trade war with nations such as China, an aspect of economic policy which drew mostly criticism (90% negative spin).

But the remaining airtime (51 minutes) consisted of mostly positive coverage (73% positive) for the rest of Trump’s economic agenda: job growth, tax reform, deregulation, and plans for more infrastructure spending. Yet this coverage has amounted to less than three percent of TV’s total coverage of the President this year.

The positive economic story is probably one reason why the public has rewarded Trump with higher approval ratings, despite the bad press. Another is that the public’s trust in the media has been eroding for years, which means that journalists are less credible critics than they might have been years ago.

There’s no precedent for a President receiving such a sustained level of negative press over such a long period of time. The fact that the public has become more favorable towards the President in this environment is the latest sign that the media watchdog’s bite isn’t as menacing as their bark suggests.
