Trump Refuses to Apologize for Travel Order: ‘Wouldn’t Make Ten Cents’ Worth of Difference’

Apologizing for 2016 campaign talk wouldn’t make “ten cents’ worth of difference” in the lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s temporary travel restriction, according to Trump.

The U.S. President was responding to a reporter’s question at a White House Rose Garden joint press conference with the President of Nigeria on Monday afternoon. The reporter said that opponents in the “travel ban” case claim the case would “go away” if Trump would apologize for some of his 2016 campaign rhetoric.

Trump was quick to respond,“I don’t think it would, one, and there’s no reason to apologize.”

“Our immigration laws in this country are a total disaster. They are laughed at all over the world. They’re laughed at for their stupidity. And we have to have strong immigration laws,” said Trump.

“I think if I apologize wouldn’t make ten cents worth of difference to them,” the President concluded. “There’s nothing to apologize for.”

“We have to have strong immigration laws to protect our country,” he repeated.

A week after being sworn into office, President Trump signed the first version of an executive order temporarily restricting travel from sever terror-prone countries. Legal challenges led to two revised versions of the temporary travel restriction that were, again, challenged in court. In January 2018, almost a year since the first travel restriction order was signed, the Supreme Court of the United States granted review in the case against Trump’s “travel ban.” A decision is expected around the end of June.

WATCH: Some viewers are outraged over this political ad — and it’s because there’s a gun

Republican Brian Kemp is running for governor in Georgia, and his new campaign ad has viewers flooding local networks with complaints, WXIA-TV reported.

Outrage over the ad, which features Kemp holding a shotgun, prompted WXIA to publish an article detailing why they were legally unable to remove the ad from the air.

“11Alive News has received many complaints on the commercial released last week by the Brian Kemp for Governor campaign. … The Federal Communications Commission’s political broadcast rules actually prohibit television stations from refusing or altering political advertising from any legally qualified candidate,” the article stated.

What’s in the ad?

The ad features Kemp sitting beside a young man referred to as Jake, who, for the sake of the commercial, is said to be interested in dating Kemp’s daughter.

Kemp his holding a shotgun in what could be perceived as a mildly threatening manner, and he has the teenager recite some of Kemp’s campaign talking points, as well as listing “respect” and a “healthy appreciation for the Second Amendment” as requirements for dating his daughter.

“We’re gon’ get along just fine,” Kemp says as the commercial ends.

The feedback

WXIA said it has received feedback from viewers who have called the ad “offensive” and “very inappropriate,” and one viewer said “it is the sign of a psychopath and only invites violence against unarmed people and somehow justifies using firearms in a totally unwarranted situation.”

“I’m a conservative who believes in the Second Amendment but this commercial makes me want to vote for the other side,” one commenter wrote.

About Kemp

Kemp has tried to establish a reputation for himself as a candidate strongly against illegal immigration and crime, and as a vocal advocate for gun owners’ rights.

He is one of seven Republican candidates who is campaigning to replace Gov. Nathan Deal. One of his competitors, Nathan Hill, is also making a strong gun rights-based push and has proposed to lower the legal age for all firearm purchases to 18. The primary election is May 22.

Kemp’s campaign responded briefly and pointedly to critics of the ad in a statement to WXIA.

“Brian Kemp is a conservative. Get over it. He loves his daughters, values our Second Amendment rights, and will be an unapologetic fighter for our families as Georgia’s next governor,” a spokesman said.

Not even Planned Parenthood’s chief thinks comedienne’s abortion jokes at weekend’s WHCD were OK

Cecile Richards, soon-to-be ex-chief of Planned Parenthood, was one of many who were entirely unimpressed by comedienne Michelle Wolf’s abortion jokes during Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

What did Wolf say, anyway?

Wolf, who served as the dinner’s entertainment, told several off-color jokes during the dinner, but few were so ill-received as the ones she told about abortion.

“I know a lot of you are very anti-abortion unless it’s the one you got for your secret mistresses,” she quipped.

She also took aim at Vice President Mike Pence and added, “Mike Pence is also very anti-choice — he thinks abortion is murder. Which, first of all, don’t knock it ’til you try it. And when you do try it, really knock it — you got to get that baby out of there.”

Despite backlash, Wolf said that she wouldn’t change a thing about her controversial remarks.

“I wouldn’t change a single word that I said,” Wolf told NPR in an interview Monday. “I’m very happy with what I said, and I’m glad that I stuck to my guns.”

What did Richards say in response to Wolf’s comments?

Richards, who spoke with CNN’s “New Day” on Tuesday, said that she didn’t feel it was appropriate for Wolf to make light of abortion through such jokes.

“This isn’t a topic that I make jokes about because, of course, I see what women face in this country just to access care and how much stigma and shame there already is in America,” Richards said after watching footage of Wolf’s jokes from the dinner.

The Planned Parenthood president also suggested that Wolf made the comments in order to mock abortion opponents.

“I think she was also making the point that a lot of the folks, male politicians in particular, who rail against access to safe and legal abortion do so until it’s something that they actually find benefits themselves,” Richards added.

Donald Trump Announces ‘Full Support’ for Congressional Term Limits

Donald Trump Announces ‘Full Support’ for Congressional Term Limits

President Donald Trump endorsed the idea of term limits on Monday, revealing that he met with bipartisan members of Congress to discuss the issue.

“I recently had a terrific meeting with a bipartisan group of freshman lawmakers who feel very strongly in favor of Congressional term limits,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “I gave them my full support and endorsement for their efforts”:

Trump vowed during the 2016 presidential campaign to support term limits as part of his promise to “drain the swamp.”

“If I’m elected president, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress,” he said. “Decades of failure in Washington and decades of special-interest dealing must and will come to an end.”

Border Patrol Agents Rescue Smuggled Tiger Cub near Texas Border

Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector rescued a live tiger cub after smugglers abandoned it near the Texas border with Mexico. The cub appears to be in good health.

Agents assigned to the Brownsville Station made an unusual discovery while responding to an alert about an illegal border crossing on Monday. Agents responded to the call but only found a large black bag. The illegal border crossers had disappeared, according to information provided to Breitbart Texas by Border Patrol officials.

The agents approached the black bag and were likely expecting to find drugs. Instead, the agents found a male tiger cub zipped up inside the bag. It appears the smugglers gave the cub a tranquilizer.

Officials took the tiger cub to the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville where officials estimated the cub’s age to be between three and four months.

Earlier in the day, agents made another unusual discovery while attempting to launch a patrol boat and observed a large alligator on the ramp.

Officials did not say if or how long the alligator delayed the launch.

Cartel-connected smugglers are even more callous with their human cargo.

On Thursday, April 26, agents assigned to the Weslaco Station received a report of suspected illegal immigrants getting into two vehicles, a Kia Soul and a Chevy Tahoe, near Alamo, Texas. As agents attempted to stop the vehicles, the Kia stopped and the Tahoe failed to yield, officials stated.

The driver of the Tahoe stopped after a short pursuit and fled the scene on foot.

Agents found seven illegal immigrants packed in the back of the Kia and an additional 10 crammed into the Tahoe.

During a two day period, agents assigned to the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint in Brooks County made two human smuggling discoveries. In the first, a K-9 agent alerted to the possible presence of drugs or humans in the back of a pickup truck. The agents found an illegal immigrant trapped under a toolbox with no way of escaping.

Early Friday morning, the Falfurrias agents discovered 17 illegal immigrants packed in the back of a tractor-trailer loaded with commodities. Officials said the migrants were men and juveniles from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Colombia.

Agents arrested both drivers.

Facebook ‘Bug’ Shows Company Plan for Flagging ‘Hate Speech’

Facebook ‘Bug’ Shows Company Plan for Flagging ‘Hate Speech’

Facebook accidentally rolled out what appeared to be a crowd-sourced “hate speech” flagging system, in which users were asked whether a post constituted hate speech or not.

Earlier today, Facebook users began reporting that questionnaires had been attached to innocuous posts, asking them if they considered the content of the posts to be “hate speech.”

It quickly became apparent that the feature had been rolled out in an unfinished state:

Facebook VP of product Guy Rosen said that the feature was a “bug” and a “test” that had been incorrectly applied to all posts, including Mark Zuckerberg’s.

The feature appears to be a method for determining what qualifies as “hate speech” based on user feedback, but it is unknown whether Facebook intends to roll this out for all users, or just a select group.

A user-driven approach is a radical departure from the “Facebook Supreme Court” that Mark Zuckerberg previously suggested, in which a hand-picked panel of elites would have the final say on what content is banned under the platform’s hate speech rules. Both approaches suffer from the problem of subjectivity and bias, as there is no objective definition of hate speech — as Zuckerberg himself concedes.

We do know that language which attacks the “immigration status” of a person is considered hate speech under Facebook’s rules. Republican congressman Lamar Smith has raised concerns that this will make criticism of illegal immigration impossible on the platform.

School district apparently first in state to let some teachers, staff members carry guns on campus

A Georgia school district apparently became the first in the state to let some of its employees carry guns on campus, the Telegraph reported.

The Laurens County school board approved a policy last month letting select staffers carry guns on school property, in vehicles and at school functions, the paper said.

“We are not arming all teachers in [Laurens County schools], nor will we have teachers or any other staff members ‘openly’ carrying firearms during the school day,” Laurens County school Superintendent Dan Brigman said, the Telegraph noted. “The processes to support this approved policy will be developed in a very careful and confidential manner in partnership with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Department.”

‘Time is of the essence’

Brigman added: “Time is of the essence when it comes to a school crisis, particularly the threat of an active shooter on campus. Our county’s size often creates a great amount of time for law enforcement to respond to our outlying schools. It’s essential that we have plans and protocols in place to develop somewhat of a first-responder process to extend beyond the school lock-down,” the paper said.

Laurens County already has armed school resource officers at some of its schools, the Telegraph reported, adding that teachers and staff members would carry guns on a voluntary basis and receive intensive training.

More from the Telegraph:

According to policies from Laurens County and Georgia, approved employees must receive proper training on judgment, pistol shooting, marksmanship and relevant laws before they are authorized to carry weapons on school property. Guns can be concealed by school staff if they are carried in holsters, but they may not be kept in purses, briefcases or accessories that aren’t being worn. They also can be stored in locked safes or lockboxes.

Implementation of Laurens’ policy is still in the planning stages, and the district and the sheriff’s department have not yet determined how many employees at each school will carry guns or when they will be allowed to start.

In 2014, Georgia lawmakers left it up to individual school districts to decide if employees could carry guns on school property, the paper said, adding that districts wanting to opt in must follow specific requirements, including types of weapons and ammunition allowed, and implement firearms training, licensing and security.

Apparently the first in the state to do this

Laurens County is believed to be the only Georgia school district to go forward with such a policy, Justin Pauly of the Georgia School Boards Association told the paper.

More from the Telegraph:

Kansas, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming are among at least eight states that allow teachers in K-12 schools to carry guns in some capacity, according to the Wall Street Journal. Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri, Maryland and Oklahoma introduced bills this year to make it simpler for school employees to have weapons on campus.

School board chairman Kenny Stewart told the paper there’s a misconception that the district will be handing out guns to teachers at the door, which isn’t the case at all.

What do parents have to say about the new measure?

Shaketha Marion has children in third and sixth grades at a district elementary school and isn’t happy about the teachers and staffers potentially carrying guns, the Telegraph said.

“I think there are other ways they can provide security for the students and the staff,” she told the paper. “[Teachers] have a lot to deal with as it is. I really think they just need a security officer at each school and even metal detectors. To see that they didn’t even look at that as a possibility and just went straight for the guns, it shocked me.”

But Debra Shepard who attended district schools told the Telegraph she would have supported such a policy when her now-grown kids were in school and wants other security measures such as metal detectors added as well.

“I agree with it, as long as they’re well-trained,” she added to the paper. “I think it’s needed for their protection. I think it will just make people more aware. I don’t think the students need to know who’s carrying.”

What Just Happened in Booming Trump Economy Proves We Don’t Need Min. Wage Hikes

Another cherished Democrat dogma is biting the dust.

When it comes to the economy, few things are dearer to liberal hearts than raising the minimum wage. It lets them pontificate about caring for the poor while flexing government power, and gives them a ready-made way to paint Republicans and conservatives as the heartless caricatures of socialist lore.

But interactions that are ordinary experiences for most Americans are proving how wrong they are.

A short piece published last week by The Wall Street Journal sums up the case pretty well.

The article focused on the price of a haircut at Sport Clips outlets. The number of customers seeking a haircut is outpacing the number of hair cutters available to provide the service.

And that means the pay for hairdressers is going up all by itself — without any need for a government involvement at all.

As The Wall Street Journal reported:

“Wages go up to lure or hold on to workers. Debra Sawyer, a Sport Clips franchisee with salons in Richmond, Virginia and Central Florida, said she raised worker wages in February 2017 in response to the labor shortage.

Are you in favor of increasing the minimum wage?

“Pay for team members increased 11% to $10 from $9 an hour, while pay for assistant managers rose 20% to $12 from $10 and manager paychecks increased 33%, to $15 from $11.25. Hourly bonuses also went up dramatically.

“Prices for services rise to cover part or all of the added labor costs. When the Sport Clips franchisee implemented the wage increase, it increased the price of a standard haircut to $20 from $19, a 5% bump, and the signature service cut went to $25 from $24. All of these increases went to pay raises and hourly bonuses, said Ms. Sawyer.”

Customers are paying $1 more per haircut (which isn’t going to break anybody), while the workers who cut the hair are getting a decent percentage in a raise. Miraculous, isn’t it?

Adam Smith called it “the invisible hand.” Most people just call it supply and demand. And everyone from drug dealers on street corners to CEOs in corner offices understand just how it works.

On the other hand, community organizers, union bosses and Democrat politicians pretend they don’t understand it at all. Hence the constant agitation for minimum wage increases — as the “Fight for $15” frauds keep pushing.

RELATED: Trump Shows Pure Class, Steps Away From Podium Mid-Rally To Aid Suffering Audience Member

But the tax cuts approved by congressional Republicans and signed by President Donald Trump in December are already having the kind of impact that Democrats claim they want to see — wages going up for workers at the bottom end of the employment scale.

Now, here’s the thing. The Journal points out that wages in every sector of the economy haven’t gone up as fast as they have in the personal grooming business.

“For example, the construction industry, which has struggled nationwide to find workers, has seen average hourly wages in February rise 3.3% from a year earlier, which is stronger than overall private-sector wage growth of 2.6% but far less than at the hair salon,” The Journal reported.

Well, here’s a clue. If the construction industry has “struggled” to find workers, then the chances are the wage hasn’t risen enough to take care of the problem.

The point is not that some amorphous independent being — the “Construction Wage God” — hasn’t seen fit to raise wages yet. The people who run construction firms haven’t found it necessary to do so yet, or are locked into contracts with customers where they can’t, or whatever the reason might be that doesn’t happen to apply to hair dressers.

(Personal grooming, after all, is a field where the workforce is a good deal more mobile than most construction crews. And its product is a good deal more transitory than a skyscraper.)

For Democrats, those fluctuations are the reason to be talking about hikes in the minimum wage. But the reality, as usual, is exactly the opposite.

Unlike the natural demand that an improving economy brings, the unnatural demand of government imposed minimum wage hikes actually decreases employment, as businesses pare their workforce to be able to afford paying some employees more.

As liberal hero John Kennedy was fond of saying, a rising tide lifts all boats. The point of government policy isn’t to make sure all the boats rise at the same time, or in uniform, lockstep levels.

The point is that with government policies that fosters a strong economy — and the economy has boomed under Trump — the boats will rise enough to keep workers satisfied, or the workers will find another boat.

Just ask the Sport Clips hairdressers.

Marxists Around the World Celebrate May Day with Violent Protests

Left-wing activists and Marxist governments participated in May Day on Tuesday, a day many claim as an attempt to promote the rights of the ordinary worker.

Traditionally an ancient northern hemisphere spring festival, May Day was co-opted by 20th-century communists as “International Workers’ Day” to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket riots in Chicago that saw dozens of laborers killed and injured by police while demonstrating for employment rights.

Governments and trade unions today use the event as an opportunity to demand higher wages and employment benefits. Communist nations used the holiday to promote their own elite.

Thousands participated in marches across Western cities including New York, Zurich, and Berlin:

In Paris, violent confrontations broke out as “groups of black-clad protesters used the occasion to burn cars, vandalise businesses, and clash with police.”

During celebrations in London, some participants were seen holding a sign glorifying former Soviet leader Josef Stalin. One of history’s most brutal dictators, he is estimated to have killed between 20 to 25 million people.

In communist Cuba, state propaganda outlet Granma declared that although celebrations had come to an end, “celebration of Cuban workers continues throughout the country under the banner: Unity, Commitment, and Victory.” Their website also provided extensive coverage of the celebrations, which included minute by minute photos as events unfolded.

“This May Day the Cuban people are leading a massive, colorful, vibrant, conscious march, reaffirming to the world the unity and commitment of the island’s workers to the new government, Raúl and the Party,” one of the live blog posts reads.

CNN correspondent Patrick Oppmann also noted how Cuba’s new president, Miguel Díaz-Canel has his name emblazoned on signs.

In Santiago, Chile, the government deployed riot police and water cannons to control violent clashes as around “40,000 workers, commanded by the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores and other labor unions, demanded ‘a better labor treatment’ and changes to the labor reforms of Sebastián Piñera.”

Some demonstrations took place in Caracas, Venezuela, where the legacy of Hugo Chávez’s socialist revolution has left the once thriving oil-rich nation as one of the poorest places on earth:

In communist China, President Xi Jinping “extended greetings to workers nationwide” for the day, declaring that “socialism and the creation of a new era can only be achieved through hard work.” However, no major rallies were reported.

In North Korea, which typically celebrates May Day in grandiose fashion to promote its ideology as a workers paradise, celebrations remained low key amid ongoing efforts to denuclearize and improve relations the West.

State media reported that “senior party and government officials of the DPRK celebrated the May Day with working people across the country,” visiting “institutions, industrial establishments, construction sites and farms to congratulate workers, agricultural workers and intellectuals greeting the holiday.”

A video collection by TIME magazine gave a taste for celebrations in countries such as Indonesia, South Korea, the Philippines, Turkey, Austria, Iraq, Spain, and Greece, some of which turned violent:

In the U.S., Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) took to Twitter to urge people to “strive for a just and moral economy”:

Sporadic demonstrations also took place across the country in cities such as Chicago, New Orleans, and Los Angeles. Many of the demonstrations targeted the Trump administration while calling for amnesty for illegal immigrants among other additional rights.
