Can we just say it? Loretta Lynch is lying

When we learned of the interview that Lester Holt had with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, our own Mr. Morrissey raised a few pertinent questions regarding just how much truth was being revealed. You’ll recall that Lynch’s original story was that she and President Bill Clinton only talked about “golf and grandchildren” during their infamous meeting on the Tarmac in 2016. But when talking to Holt, she expanded on that a bit, saying they also discussed, “issues of the day” such as Brexit.

Here was Ed’s rather polite analysis of that claim.

Until now, we’ve mainly heard that the conversation stuck to stories about grandchildren and personal topics. Bear in mind that the issues of the day in June 2016 mainly concerned the election season that was underway. We know by now that the FBI and DoJ had grown concerned over potential Russian interference in the process and had begun a probe into that as well. The news of the DNC hack broke on June 14th; the tarmac meeting took place around two weeks later. Wouldn’t any of that been among the “issues of the day” on the minds of the Clintons? And wouldn’t that have been of much more interest than Brexit?

All due respect to Ed for the restraint he was exhibiting, but I’m not sure such restraint is actually called for here. The Washington Times also took note of Lynch’s rather lame reflections on the meeting where she expressed, “regrets” meeting Mr. Clinton, given the appearance of impropriety it caused during Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign.

I wouldn’t have even selected this story for additional coverage here if it weren’t for the fact that I don’t think we need to be pussyfooting around what Lynch is doing here (if you’ll pardon the phrase). The fact is that we will never know beyond a shadow of a doubt what went on or exactly what was said during that meeting on the plane. Presumably, there was nobody else allowed in the meeting nor was there any recording of it or we might have heard about it by now. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t apply a bit of common sense and point out a situation where the emperor obviously isn’t wearing any clothes.

Based on what we do know and what was claimed by both parties involved, the only logical conclusion is that this woman is a liar. There. I said it. She’s lying through her teeth. There is simply no way on Earth that Lynch and the former President could have had such a secret, off the record conversation and not have been aware that it would be of tremendous interest to the public if word ever leaked out. There was also no reason that they needed to have such a conversation about “grandchildren and golf” given the high tension surrounding both of them at the time.

What’s most insulting here is the way that Lynch can shrug off the obvious and simply smirk at the nation, knowing that she will never be definitively exposed. And she has to know it. Captain Louis Renault would be more believable saying that he had no idea about gambling going on in the casino. If the Justice Department during that era had a better track record of being completely transparent and nonpartisan, perhaps… just perhaps.. we might allow some wiggle room here. But they weren’t. Anyone recall when the embezzlement charges against Huma Abedin were unceremoniously tossed into the recycling bin with the AG citing “prosecutorial discretion?”

No, I can’t definitively prove that Loretta Lynch was lying about that meeting. Nobody can. But I also am under no obligation to take her word or that of President Bill “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” Clinton about what happened that day. She hasn’t earned that amount of blind faith from the public and I’m not buying it.

Illegal immigration as an actual ideology

The virulence and inflexibility of illegal immigration activists and their Democratic Party allies, as well as their refusal to answer the simple question of whether the U.S. should have any borders or say-so on who gets into the country, does come across as an … ideology.

Which is why a seminal essay on the matter by Victor Davis Hanson, who is close to ground zero of what illegal immigration actually means in Central California, is so well worth reading.

Hanson shows the scope very well in his opener here:

Illegal immigration has become so deeply embedded for so long within contemporary power politics, demography, and cultural change, so charged with accusations of racism, nativism, and xenophobia, that we have forgotten its intrinsic contradictions.

We saw a glimpse of reality with the recent “caravan” of Central Americans. With a strong wink and nod from their Mexican hosts, the travelers assumed an intrinsic right to march northward into the United States. Had they done so, they would have confirmed the impression, advanced during the last administration, that the border is porous and that a sovereign United States and its citizenry have scant legal right to secure it.

And then elaborates on the scope and implications of this new ideological addition.

He’s circling what the real problem is as illegals take front and center in the U.S. public debate.

He does point out that elites of Latin countries do indeed benefit from shipping millions of their least educated and least productive people to El Norte to take care of, and then benefitting from their cash remittances shipped back to home, turning burdensome people who are otherwise likely to revolt against them into fountains of cash.

There are other beneficiaries worth noting and both are ominous as well.

One is the cartels and drug dealers who take migrant money to smuggle people into the U.S. for a tidy profit. The recent surge of migrants into the U.S. after an initial dropoff, noted in this Federalist piece, would suggest that. Smugglers profit from illegals and they don’t like their money cut off. Make no mistake, they are playing a role in encouraging illegal immigration for profit’s sake. As Hanson notes, there are massive contradictions involved, including in this aspect of the illegal immigration transaction. How is it that someone who is supposedly fleeing gangs can go up to the gang that is supposedly bothering him or her, hand them $6,000 or $10,000 for the smuggling journey, and then set up shop in a Central American neighborhood brimming with more gangs and their violence? This doesn’t sound like someone really serious about fleeing from gangs. Yet the gang flight argument is always used as an ideological ground for the U.S. admitting more illegals.

Here’s another contradiction based on ideology. The Central American countries the biggest waves of illegals are fleeing are all officially democratic countries. These are recognized democracies and people have the right to vote and the right to vote for change. Yet the claims from the open borders lobby are that the illegals they support are only migrating north because they are fleeing oppression? What’s really going on is that these voters sell their votes for bags of beans and believe every populist promise about Bad Gringo being the source of all their poverty and ills instead of their local elites. They then vote socialists into power, dislike the result, and head to El Norte for the free stuff they had expected earlier in the home country which never materialized. It’s never brought up in the press that the countries being fled from are democracies with rights to vote.

Don’t think there isn’t an explicitly ideological basis for that. At an illegal immigrant protest I attended in Murrieta, Calif., I got a chance to listen to the other side in the matter, a pro-illegal immigrant activist leader, who was an older guy covered with gang tats on his arms and who told me he had been a former Salvadoran communist guerrilla. Why was he advocating for illegal immigration to the land of the hated yanqui imperialista? He calmly explained to me that it was part of the ideology: To punish gringo by shipping millions and millions of illegal migrants to the U.S. from places the U.S. had unfairly colonialized (his logic, not mine). It was to force the U.S. to atone for its errors. Hence, the ease with which he supported illegal immigration.

There is an ideology from illegal immigration and it’s a multi-headed hydra of contradictions. What it isn’t is one set of laws for everyone to obey. That makes it a threat to democracy and don’t think a former Salvadoran guerrilla wouldn’t know what he was talking about in the matter of destroying a democracy.

Donald Trump Livid After FBI Raids Personal Lawyer: ‘Attorney-Client Privilege Is Dead!’

US President Donald Trump speaks during a meeting with senior military leaders at the White House in Washington, DC, on April 9, 2018. President Donald Trump said Monday that "major decisions" would be made on a Syria response in the next day or two, after warning that Damascus would have a "big price to pay" over an alleged chemical attack on a rebel-held town.Trump condemned what he called a "heinous attack on innocent" Syrians in Douma, as he opened a cabinet meeting at the White House. / AFP PHOTO / NICHOLAS KAMM (Photo credit should read NICHOLAS KAMM/AFP/Getty Images)

President Donald Trump continued his frustrated rant against the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller after the office of his personal lawyer Michael Cohen was raided.

“Attorney–client privilege is dead!” Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday morning, decrying the investigation as “A TOTAL WITCH HUNT!!!”

Trump told reporters on Monday night that the raid was “a real disgrace,” “an attack on our country,” and “an attack on what we all stand for.”

“When I saw this and when I heard it — I heard it like you did — I said, that is really now on a whole new level of unfairness,” the president continued.

He condemned Mueller’s investigation as “a pure and simple witch hunt” and reminded reporters that many people had suggested that he fire the Special Counsel.

“We’ll see what happens. I think it’s disgraceful, and so does a lot of other people,” he said.

Judge Jeanine: ‘It’s Time for Republicans to Stop Fighting with Each Other and Start Supporting the President’

Judge Jeanine: ‘It’s Time for Republicans to Stop Fighting with Each Other and Start Supporting the President’

During her Saturday opening statement for Fox News Channel’s “Justice,” Jeanine Pirro called on Republicans to unite in support of President Donald Trump.

“They decide to trash, belittle and shame the president and his family, including the first lady, making fun of their accent, their intellectual capability, their hair, you name it, and they decide to ignore a congressional subpoena for Department of Justice documents on the FISA abuse scandal and the Hillary Clinton investigation,” Pirro began. “So, who are they? And who do we blame for the repeated trashing of the first lady? Why is open season on the first family? Who do we blame for the refusal to honor congressional subpoenas? There is only one group to blame, and that group is the Republican Party.”

She later declared, “It’s time for Republicans to stop fighting with each other and start supporting the president.”

Oklahoma’s Striking Teachers Are Intoxicated By Their Own Demands

Look for the union label.

Oklahoma’s teachers have just completed the first week of a statewide “walkout,” with no resolution in sight. (It’s a “walkout,” not a “strike,” as public-employee strikes are illegal in Oklahoma.)

Ironically, the state’s teachers had won much of what they wanted before the walkout even began. On Friday, March 23, the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA), the state’s largest teachers union, issued an ambitious list of demands: a $10,000 pay raise for teachers; $5,000 raise for school-support personnel; $200 million over three years in additional local-school funding; a 5 percent cost-of-living increase for retirees; and $500 million over three years to “fully staff state agencies” and raise state employee pay by $7,500 a year. In OEA’s estimation, this total package would cost more than $1.4 billion over three years.

In response, on Thursday, March 29 the Oklahoma legislature enacted a new teacher-pay scale that boosted average teacher pay by $6,100 — or 16 percent. This represented a remarkable win for teachers: In 2016, Oklahoma’s average teacher salary of $45,276 ranked 49th nationally, according to the National Education Association (NEA). The raise was funded via new taxes on gas, tobacco, and oil production, along with a new limit on income-tax deductions.

Yet, teachers were not placated — and on Monday, April 2, they started the walkout. The next day, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed a $2.9 billion appropriations bill for education funding in fiscal year 2019 — a 19.7 percent boost in spending over the current fiscal year, which ends June 30. The legislation includes $353.5 million for teacher pay (funding the $6,100 average raise); $52 million for support personnel pay; $50 million for textbooks and general state aid; and $24.7 million for health-care benefits. Fallin signed additional legislation providing a $1,250 annual pay bump for school-support personnel and tiered raises for state employees ranging from $750 to $2,000.

Still, the walkout continues, with teachers seeking additional concessions. Their stance has garnered widespread support and glowing media coverage. And while the sympathy is easy to understand, it should be noted that, after the 16 percent boost, average teacher pay in Oklahoma will next year exceed the state’s median household income of $50,943.

Indeed, the new average teacher salary of $51,376 will vault Oklahoma into the very middle (29th) of NEA’s teacher-salary rankings, with Texas the only bordering state with higher average salary — by about one percent. Add the fact that Oklahoma boasts the third lowest cost of living in the U.S, and it’s fair to say that Oklahoma’s teachers will now be reasonably well-compensated relative to their peers across the country.

Trump’s Pro-Life Credo: Children Are Endowed with Human Dignity ‘from Conception’

In a powerful statement on the right to life of unborn children, President Donald Trump has declared that a child’s human dignity begins at conception.

“We must always remember that all children are blessings from our Creator,” the president said in proclaiming April 2018 as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. “They are endowed from conception with value, purpose, and human dignity.”

Children “are a source of unmatched joy, and they represent our Nation’s future,” Mr. Trump said. “It is thus our civic and moral responsibility to help every child experience a childhood free from abuse and mistreatment, guiding them toward a future full of hope and promise.”

This presidential proclamation follows on a similar declaration issued by the president just over two months ago, when he declared January 22, 2018 as “National Sanctity of Human Life Day.”

In that document, Mr. Trump called for renewed attention to “the love and protection each person, born and unborn.”

The president noted that much of the greatest suffering in the history of the world has been the result of “disgracefully misguided attempts to dehumanize whole classes of people.”

In an evident reference to the unborn, Trump added that we “cannot let this shameful history repeat itself in new forms, and we must be particularly vigilant to safeguard the most vulnerable lives among us.”

Science itself “continues to support and build the case for life,” Mr. Trump noted, as medical technology “allows us to see images of the unborn children moving their newly formed fingers and toes, yawning, and even smiling. Those images present us with irrefutable evidence that babies are growing within their mothers’ wombs — precious, unique lives, each deserving a future filled with promise and hope.”

“These important medical advances give us an even greater appreciation for the humanity of the unborn,” he said.

The president also addressed participants in this year’s March for Life in Washington D.C. via satellite from the Rose Garden, assuring marchers that “every life is sacred, that every child is a precious gift from God.”

The president reminded the marchers that the shameful Roe v. Wade 1973 Supreme Court case “resulted in some of the most permissive abortion laws anywhere in the world,” likening U.S. abortion legislation to China and North Korea.

In a number of states, the laws allow a baby to be torn from his or her mother’s womb in the ninth month, the president observed. “It is wrong; it has to change,” Mr. Trump said.

Operation Rescue, one of the most prominent pro-life groups in America, declared President Trump the 2017 “Pro-Life Person of the Year” in bestowing its Malachi award on him on December 29. 2017.

“Since Trump took office, he has accomplished more for the pro-life agenda than any other president,” the group said in presenting the Award “to recognize individuals who sacrificially work to advance the cause of protecting the pre-born.”

The group’s president, Troy Newman, said that Mr. Trump “has proven to be the most pro-life president we have had in modern history and has backed up his pro-life rhetoric with action like no other before him.”

Newman said that President Trump has had the courage to keep promises made during the campaign that provide greater protections for the pre-born, highlighting eight specific pro-life accomplishments of his presidency.

These achievements include naming Justice Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, denying public money to abortion providers around the world, the Department of Justice investigation into Planned Parenthood’s illegal sale of baby parts, support for pro-life legislation, support for the defunding of Planned Parenthood, his naming of pro-life people to his administration, specific HHS pro-life policies, and protections for conscientious objectors to the Obamacare HHS mandate.

“We are proud of President Trump and his bold willingness to advance the cause of life,” Newman said. “There are more battles ahead, but under the Trump administration, we can now finally see progress within our government toward restoring the sanctity of life and the protections of personhood to the pre-born.”

The National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) lashed out at Operation Rescue for its decision, calling it “an anti-choice extremist group with ties to domestic terrorism.”

NARAL went on to describe pro-life Americans as Mr. Trump’s “extremist, fringe base.”

George W. Bush Aide Gives Mark Zuckerberg Crash Course in Communication Skills Before Congressional Hearing

George W. Bush Aide Gives Mark Zuckerberg Crash Course in Communication Skills Before Congressional Hearing

A former special assistant who served under President George W. Bush is giving Mark Zuckerberg a crash course in communication skills before the Facebook chief executive appears Tuesday on Capitol Hill to testify before Congress.

The New York Times reported that Facebook hired several experts, including Reginald J. Brown—a former special assistant to Bush—to give Zuckerberg public speaking lessons before he addresses committees in the House and Senate this week.

Brown is reportedly leading a team from the law firm WilmerHale and other outside consultants to prepare Zuckerberg to testify on Capitol Hill.

Facebook hired the outside help to prepare Zuckerberg for the questions he might encounter from lawmakers when he addresses Congress this week.

“For every major C.E.O., and now for Mark Zuckerberg, this is a rite of passage,” said Reed E. Hundt, a former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. “Facebook has become so important — not just to business but to society — it can’t avoid having to run the congressional gantlet.”

The company also set up mock-hearings and role play operations with its communications department and outside advisers acting as members of Congress.

Zuckerberg is slated to testify before the Senate Commerce and Judiciary committees on Tuesday and the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old chief executive will testify before both House and Senate committees to explain how Facebook uses and protects “user data” after news broke that the data firm Cambridge Analytica harvested data from tens of millions of Facebook users.

The company is not only trying to coach Zuckerberg on how to woo Congress but is also trying to influence members of Congress with cold hard cash. Facebook and political groups associated with the social media company have donated roughly $381,000 to 46 of the 55 members on the House Energy and Commerce Committee since 2007.

Border Patrol Agents Welcome National Guard Assistance

Border Patrol agents welcomed the news of President Donald Trump’s order activating the National Guard to assist with securing the southwest border with Mexico. Agents said the move will put more agents on the front line and help make the border safer.

“I worked with the Texas National Guard during their 2014 border deployment,” Border Patrol Agent Hector Garza told Breitbart Texas in his capacity as president of National Border Patrol Council Local 2455. “They were very helpful to our operations.”

Garza said the Guardsmen took over many tasks normally filled by agents who are taken from the border. These tasks included monitoring cameras and sensors, vehicle maintenance, and other support roles. “Some of the Guardsmen also paired up with agents to provide additional manpower and safety along the border region,” Garza stated.

The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) represents more than 18,000 men and women who defend the borders of the United States.

“Smuggling of both humans and illicit contraband such as opioids is a multi-billion-dollar industry,” NBPC officials posted on their website. “It is predicated on getting their products across the border without detection and apprehension or seizure.”

“With the National Guard assisting with our surveillance operations it will free up resources to patrol the border, thereby increasing the certainty of apprehension or seizure and put a dent in the bottom line (profits) of the criminal cartels that control all smuggling on our borders,” NBPC officials said.

The agents anticipate that National Guardsmen will perform duties that include monitoring border camera systems, conducting surveillance on “sky boxes” or other observation posts, monitoring border sensors, operating scope vehicles, and other activities to free up agents to stay on the front line of the border.

“By deploying the National Guard to take over these and other activities, it will free up law enforcement resources to patrol the border and make arrests,” the NBPC statement continues. “This action will increase the certainty of detection and apprehension.”

Currently, Congressional legislation calls for 21,370 Border Patrol agents to work along our nation’s borders. However, the Border Patrol currently only employes a little more than 19,000 agents.

On Friday, the State of Texas announced the deployment of 250 National Guardsmen, Breitbart Texas reported. Some of those are assigned to helicopter units and have already been dispatched to the border region.

Sessions: Zero Tolerance for Illegal Border Crossings

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a zero-tolerance policy for illegal entry into this county. The announcement came in a directive to all of the U.S. Attorney’s Offices along the southwestern border with Mexico.

“To those who wish to challenge the Trump Administration’s commitment to public safety, national security, and the rule of law, I warn you: illegally entering this country will not be rewarded, but will instead be met with the full prosecutorial powers of the Department of Justice,” Sessions said in a written statement obtained by Breitbart Texas. “The situation at our Southwest Border is unacceptable. Congress has failed to pass effective legislation that serves the national interest—that closes dangerous loopholes and fully funds a wall along our southern border. As a result, a crisis has erupted at our Southwest Border that necessitates an escalated effort to prosecute those who choose to illegally cross our border.”

The announcement by the attorney general falls nearly one year after he announced his department’s commitment to enforcing the criminal provisions relating to immigration law. “While dramatic progress has been made in recent months, much remains to be done,” Sessions said in his 2017 announcement. “It is critical that our work focus on criminal cases that will further reduce illegality.”

The initial announcement focused on increasing enforcement of cartel-related human smuggling, prosecution of illegal aliens who had been previously deported for aggravated felonies, and increasing the prosecution of illegal aliens who assault Border Patrol agents.

Friday’s announcement expands the prosecutorial effort to include taking criminal action against those crossing the border illegally for the first time.

Sessions’ announcement came just days after the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced a dramatic spike in illegal border crossings. The arrests of illegal immigrants crossing the border in March jumped 203 percent over the previous year. The illegal crossings by minors and families jumped to levels last seen in the record-setting 2013, 2014 Obama years.

Attorney General Sessions directed federal prosecutors to priortize the prosecution of all immigration violations referred to the DOJ by the Department of Homeland Security under section 1325(a) “to the extent practicable.”

Dems complain over ICE arrest of illegal alien with 15 criminal convictions

This past week, Diogenes Pinzon made an appearance in a Brooklyn criminal court proceeding involving charges of domestic violence against his girlfriend. Upon leaving the courthouse, undercover ICE agents nabbed Pinzon and took him into custody, not for beating up the woman in question, but because he is an illegal alien with an outstanding deportation order. Does anything in that brief synopsis strike you as unusual or irregular under normal law enforcement protocol?

While you might find it completely normal, that was hardly the case with Democratic Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez. She immediately took to Twitter to bemoan the situation. Rather than worrying about the woman who had allegedly been robbed and beaten by her boyfriend, Velasquez was upset that ICE had arrested the alleged perpetrator.

I guess Pinzon’s girlfriend isn’t entitled to a #MeToo moment, eh?

What Valezquez was specifically complaining about was the fact that ICE had taken custody of Pinzon as he was leaving the courthouse. This is apparently “unfair” in her opinion, and will make it less likely that other illegal aliens will show up for court appearances if they suspect that ICE is lurking around the area. But there was far more to Pinzon’s story than one domestic violence charge. As Timothy Meads at Townhall explains, the congresswoman failed to note that the suspect has a rap sheet as long as his arm.

The illegal alien in question, Diogenes Pinzon, was in court challenging a domestic violence case. His girlfriend alleged that Pinzon had threatened and robbed her on May 25, 2017. Once the hearing was over, under cover ICE agents promptly arrested the illegal alien. He has also been arrested 14 previous times. It is unclear if he has ever actually been deported.

According to the New York Daily News, this arrest led to a protest of around 50 attorneys.

We should, in this case, rely on an old adage handed down from our parents. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me FIFTEEN TIMES and there’s something seriously messed up going on around here.

The complaint coming from Velazquez and the coalition of immigrant defense attorneys is actually a common one among supporters of illegal aliens and opponents of border security. They don’t believe that ICE should be allowed to make arrests in or around courthouses. But when you’re in New York City, ICE gets very little cooperation from local officials. Rather than being able to safely pick up illegals when they show up in jail, immigration officials are forced to go seek them out in the community, a process which can be far more dangerous.

Catching them coming out of the courthouse is actually one of the safest environments for an arrest, both in terms of protecting the ICE officers and the general public. Suspects have to pass through metal detectors and are subject to search when entering the courthouse so it’s highly unlikely that they have a weapon on them when they’re walking out. The same can’t be said if you have to catch up with them at home or out on the streets.

But even if we ignored all of that, there’s a more fundamental question to put to Congresswoman Velazquez. This guy is not only an illegal alien but he’s been arrested more than a dozen times for various crimes. At what point would you consider a person enough of a danger to society to ship them back to their native country?
