There’s a reason it’s usually smart to wait until the facts come out before jumping to conclusions: Without all the information, people end up rushing to judgment and smearing people who deserve respect instead of criticism.

That’s the main takeaway in Texas, where social justice warriors were riled up about “police brutality” while having only a small fraction of the information.

During the arrest of a black man named Forrest Curry, a bystander recorded 45 seconds of cell phone footage that the community claimed showed Curry being abused by a racist police force. But a much longer video from police bodycams paints a very different picture.

It turns out that Curry was combative and appeared to resist arrest for more than five minutes. This was after a foot chase and an apparent assault on medics who were trying to assist the man.

“Police on Tuesday released bodycam video showing the lengths it took to subdue and handcuff a 35-year-old man Saturday after he took swings at firefighters who were trying to help him,” reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Despite accusations of racial bias and brutality, the Fort Worth police involved in the incident specifically requested that the bodycam video be released. This put the arrest in context, and also showed that one of the primary officers involved in the struggle was also an African-American.

According to the Star-Telegram, police were not the first officials at the scene. An ambulance crew had been dispatched to a call of unresponsive men at an apartment complex. When the medics tried to help, they realized the men were high on synthetic marijuana and wanted a fight.

“That call was changed to a disturbance when officers received reports that a man had become combative with Fort Worth firefighters,” the newspaper reported.

“(Fire Department) requested that FWPD respond rapidly due to the subject’s combative actions toward them,” confirmed a press release from the Fort Worth Police Department.

The video footage seems to confirm the account from medics and police at the scene.

“As you can see, he’s resisting the whole time,” explained Assistant Police Chief Charles Ramirez. “The officers showed a lot of restraint. They are young officers and did what we expected them to do. This shows what the officers were actually dealing with.”

The bodycam video shows that Curry was apparently so high on drugs that he didn’t have much grip on reality. For example, he screams at officers to stop choking him, even though nobody is touching his neck.

“At one point during the nearly five-minute arrest, Curry said he believed he had no clothes,” the Star-Telegraph explained, despite the fact that he was fully clothed.

It took a total of five officers to finally handcuff the combative man. Even then, the cops appeared to be concerned for his well-being, with one heard on the footage offering him water.

Contrary to the frequent liberal narrative, the vast majority of America’s police officers are good people and skilled professionals. Sometimes the job gets rough — but as this video showed, it was not the cops who dragged out the altercation.

Actions have consequences. Getting high on synthetic drugs and then allegedly attacking medics when they try to help you is a recipe for a bad day, no matter how you slice it.

Instead of immediately crying “racism” and trying to smear good officers, perhaps the public and the media could take a step back, wait for all the facts to come out, and be part of the solution for a change.

David Hogg may just be one of the best gun salesmen in history.

That would probably come as a shock to the foul-mouthed gun control advocate, who recently called all NRA members murderers with blood “splattered all over their faces.”

The Parkland student-turned-media mogul no doubt believes his rhetoric is winning supporters to his side, but the evidence shows it may be doing exactly the opposite.

According to The Independent, public interest in concealed carry permits has spiked since the Feb. 14 school shooting in Florida, with “as much as a 250-percent increase in training requests for this type of permit.”

Many Americans have no doubt decided to take their self-defense more seriously after seeing law enforcement fail to adequately respond during that crisis. However, the dramatic numbers indicate there is a much more pro-gun response to the recent tragedy than after similar incidents in the past.

“There’s been a lot of shootings, unfortunately, in this country, but we’ve never seen a spike this big before, even with Newtown,” said Chris Schultrop, who runs the National Carry Academy providing citizen training to 27 states.

The harsh anti-gun hyperbole that paints law-abiding gun owners as complicit in murder is almost certainly part of the reason. Americans are fed up with being blamed for the actions of criminals and the mistakes of law enforcement, and seem to have resolved to take action.

“An analysis by NCA found that it had seen a 103.5 percent increase in interest in its trainings in the month following the Parkland, Florida shooting in February, including a spike of as much as 283 percent in Ohio,” The Independent reported.

“I think people are more proactive about being concerned for their own personal safety,” said Jacob Paulsen, a firearms instructor with Concealed Carry Inc. That organization has seen a rise in permit interest numbers similar to NCA’s levels.

“I think there’s a concern that the police can never be there fast enough in these situations, and you have to be responsible for your own personal safety,” Paulsen added.

Most conservatives agree that Hogg, the left’s new anti-gun poster boy, is smug and annoying. If the jump in concealed carry interest is any indication, maybe the right should change it’s message to, “Hey Hogg, keep talking.”

We saw a similar phenomenon during the 2016 election. Liberals, namely Hillary Clinton, hitched their wagon to a strategy of scolding the American people and lecturing them about how “deplorable” they were if they didn’t agree.

In that election, the pompous rebukes were about sexism and class. “Vote for me or you hate women,” Hillary’s message seemed to be. “Do you want to explain Trump to your children like some kind of knuckle-dragger?”

It was a colossal miscalculation. Americans, it turns out, despise being told what to think; they hate it even more when the lecture is coming from a sanctimonious blowhard in an ill-fitting pantsuit.

Hogg and his ilk are now making the exact same mistake. Having never met an NRA member, he attacks them as subhuman. Having no kids or responsibilities of his own, he tells American parents that they slaughter children by not falling in line on gun control.

That was never going to work, and now we have the numbers to prove it.

Responsible gun ownership isn’t going away anytime soon. If anything, it’s surging.

President Donald Trump denounced the Washington Post in a Sunday Twitter post, criticizing a story about his chief of staff, General John Kelly.

“The Washington Post is far more fiction than fact. Story after story is made up garbage—more like a poorly written novel than good reporting,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

The Washington Post reported that Kelly was experiencing a “downward arc” of influence in the White House while Trump was breaking free of his effort to instill more discipline. The story cited sixteen anonymous sources who were inside the White House, outside advisers, and confidants of the president.

“Always quoting sources (not names), many of which don’t exist,” Trump said. “Story on John Kelly isn’t true, just another hit job!”

Trump repeatedly feuds with the Washington Post over their coverage of his administration, especially the “palace intrigue” stories from inside the White House.

Four Ohio teenagers convicted of killing a man after dropping a sandbag on his car from an overpass have been sentenced to a youth treatment facility, according to a court official.

“The youth treatment center is a lockdown facility in Toledo. The program runs six months, but there is no set time to release. The average youth spends eight months there,” Lori Olender, juvenile division deputy chief for the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, told CNN.

The judge also sentenced the teens to four-year suspended sentences, probation, and 30 hours of community service.

One teen was convicted of murder and felonious assault while the other three were convicted of involuntary manslaughter and vehicular vandalism. All four pleaded guilty to their charges.

Lillian Diallo, an attorney for the victim’s family, called the sentencing “outrageous.”

“Suspended what? If you do what? So eight months you get to go home?” Diallo told WTVG outside the courtroom after the sentencing. “This child will never be at home. His son will never see him. His mother will never be able to say, ‘Hey son, how are you? How’s your day?’ Touch his face, see his face. This is outrageous.”

Authorities charged the teens for dropping a sandbag from a freeway overpass onto a car carrying 22-year-old Marquise Byrd on December 19, 2017. The sandbag struck the vehicle’s window and hit Byrd. The victim later died at a local hospital.

Two similar incidents took place in Michigan and Pennsylvania. In October, five teens were arrested in Michigan for allegedly throwing a rock over a highway overpass, fatally striking a motorist below.

In 2015, several teens threw a rock into incoming traffic on I-80 in Pennsylvania, seriously injuring a passenger. The teens were convicted of multiple offenses and were tried as adults.
