Parkland Student Who Was Shot Five Times Blames Sheriff And School Superintendent

A shooting that could have been prevented.

Via Daily Mail:

A student gravely wounded while saving his classmates’ lives by blocking a door during the Florida school massacre said Friday that the county sheriff and school superintendent failed the victims by not arresting the shooter before the attack and by allowing him to attend the school.

An attorney for 15-year-old Anthony Borges read a statement from him during a news conference criticizing Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel and Superintendent Robert Runcie for the Feb. 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland that killed 14 students and three staff members.

Borges was shot five times, suffering wounds to the lungs, abdomen and legs. He was released from a Fort Lauderdale hospital Wednesday morning, the last of the 17 wounded to go home.

Borges, too weak to talk, sat silently in a wheelchair with his right leg propped up. His statement specifically attacked the Promise program, a school district and sheriff office initiative that allows students who commit minor crimes on campus to avoid arrest if they complete rehabilitation.

Runcie has said shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz, a former Stoneman Douglas student, was never in the program, but Borges and his attorney, Alex Arreaza, said school and sheriff’s officials knew Cruz was dangerous.

Deputies received at least a dozen calls about Cruz, 19, over the years and he spent two years in a school for children with emotional and disciplinary problems before being allowed to transfer to Stoneman Douglas.

Last year, records show, he was forced to leave after incidents – other students said he abused an ex-girlfriend and fought her new boyfriend.

Weeks before the shooting, both the FBI and the sheriff’s office received calls saying Cruz could become a school shooter but took no action.

Runcie and Israel ‘failed us students, teachers and parents alike on so many levels,’ Arreaza read for Borges, who sat next to his father, Roger.

‘I want all of us to move forward to end the environment that allowed people like Nikolas Cruz to fall through the cracks. You knew he was a problem years ago and you did nothing. He should have never been in school with us.’

Diamond and Silk FURIOUS After Facebook Reveals Why Their Content Has Been Censored

Diamond and Silk FURIOUS After Facebook Reveals Why Their Content Has Been Censored

Diamond and Silk unloaded on Facebook Friday night after the social media giant finally responded to their many inquiries as to why Facebook is censoring their content and brand.

The dynamic duo boast over 1.2 million Facebook followers on their main Diamond and Silk page.

Diamond and Silk say their reach on Facebook has dramatically reduced prompting them to seek answers from Facebook.

After giving them the runaround for months, Facebook responded with, “The Policy team has came to the conclusion that your content and your brand has been determined unsafe to the community.”

Even worse, Facebook said their ‘decision is final and it is not appeal-able in any way.’

In a Friday evening tweetstorm, Diamond and Silk told their fans why Facebook is censoring their very popular page.

Tweetstorm began with: [email protected] have been corresponding since September 7, 2017, with @facebook (owned by Mark Zuckerberg), about their bias censorship and discrimination against D&S brand page. Finally after several emails, chats, phone calls, appeals, beating around the bush, lies, and……

“……. giving us the run around, Facebook gave us another bogus reason why Millions of people who have liked and/or followed our page no longer receives notification and why our page, post and video reach was reduced by a very large percentage. Here is the reply from……….

….Facebook. Thu, Apr 5, 2018 at 3:40 PM: “The Policy team has came to the conclusion that your content and your brand has been determined unsafe to the community.” Yep, this was FB conclusion after 6 Months, 29 days, 5 hrs, 40 minutes and 43 seconds. Oh and guess what else…

…Facebook said: “This decision is final and it is not appeal-able in any way.” (Note: This is the exact wording that FB emailed to us.)

So our questions to Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg) are:
1. What is unsafe about two Blk-women supporting the @POTUS @realDonaldTrump?

…..Our FB page has been created since December 2014, when exactly did the content and the brand become unsafe to the community?
3. When you say “community” are you referring to the Millions who liked and followed our page?
4. What content on our page was in violation?

…..If our content and brand was so unsafe to the community, why is the option for us to boost our content and spend money with FB to enhance our brand page still available? Maybe FB should give us a refund since FB censored our reach.

…..Lastly, didn’t FB violate their own policy when FB stopped sending notifications to the Millions of people who liked and followed our brand page?

This is deliberate bias censorship and discrimination. These tactics are unacceptable and we want answers!

~Diamond and Silk

The duo did not state whether they will be moving forward with litigation against Facebook, however; they stated they want answers.

Diamond and Silk rose in popularity during the 2016 presidential election.

They regularly appeared on Fox News and other outlets showing their support for Donald Trump.

The two ladies were also seen on the campaign trail stumping for Trump.

Diamond and Silk were also recently demonetized on YouTube.

The tech giants needs to be broken up. They have a monopoly over information shared online and they are deliberately discriminating against conservatives.

The first time Trump met the ladies on the campaign trail he called them an internet sensation and told them he hopes they’ve monetized on their popularity. (video below)

Memphis Illegal Alien Reporter Arrested During Protest Is Being Held By ICE

Zero tolerance for illegal aliens.

Via Commercial Appeal:

Manuel Duran, the reporter for Spanish-language media arrested this week while doing a live Internet video of a Memphis protest, has been transferred to an immigration detention center in Louisiana, his attorney said Friday.

Duran is currently in the LaSalle ICE Processing Center, a privately-run detention center in Jena, Louisiana, said Christina Swatzell, a staff attorney with Latino Memphis who is representing Duran in the immigration case.

Jena is about 300 miles south of Memphis and reachable in roughly six hours by car.

Now that Duran has been taken into immigration custody, he could face more days in detention and eventual deportation. His attorney can ask an immigration judge to grant him bail and later to allow him to stay in the country.

Duran, 42, is from El Salvador and has lived in the Memphis area for several years, working as an on-air personality for Spanish-language radio stations and more recently running his own online news outlet, Memphis Noticias.

On Thursday, a prosecutor announced in local court that the state was dropping criminal charges against Duran related to the arrest at the protest.

Two men in plainclothes, possibly Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, had watched from the back of Judge Bill Anderson’s courtroom during the appearance at the criminal justice center at 201 Poplar.

“Unfortunately, ICE was waiting for him in the courtroom,” advocacy group Latino Memphis tweeted Thursday afternoon. “He is currently with ICE.”

ICE spokesman Bryan D. Cox said the agency took Duran into custody Thursday following his release from the local jail. Cox said Duran is living in the country illegally.

“Mr. (Duran) was ordered removed from the United States by a federal immigration judge in January 2007 after failing to appear for his scheduled court date. He has been an immigration fugitive since that time,” Cox wrote in an email.

Ignorance: The Greatest Threat to Black Americans

Turning 65, my relative is about to retire from her job as a Baltimore City transit bus-driver. She said she is extremely tired of having to deal with black people with entitlement mindsets. Self-preservation has taught her not to argue with thugs boarding her bus, refusing to pay the fare.

Upon asking a gentleman to pay his bus fare, he exploded in anger, ranting about how a black man can’t catch a break in this f****** country. He excoriated my relative for being a black woman unwilling to give a black man a break.

My relative wisely kept silent as not to escalate the situation. She angrily retorted in her brain, “A black man needs to work! Why do you think someone owes you something? I do not like to work. But work is what I must do to enjoy the life I live — my home, car and etc. It is called being a responsible adult, doing what one has to do.”

A black female passenger joined the black man’s attack on my bus-driver relative, “Excuse me, ‘Miss Privileged’, not everyone is fortunate like you to be able to afford bus fare.” My frustrated relative silently kept driving.

As the weird Republican of our family, I took the occasion to educate my relative. I explained that her passengers’ entitlement mindsets are the result of decades of Democrats’ convincing blacks that they are victims in eternally racist America; deceptions and lies. Blacks believe voting for Democrats will keep evil racist white America at bay.

Democrats refuse to hold blacks accountable for anything — black on black crime, epidemic school dropouts, out of wedlock births, and generational poverty.

Insidiously, Democrats have totally relieved blacks of all responsibility for their lives. Democrats have tripled down on teaching black youths that everything wrong is the fault of “white privilege,”  systematic, cultural, and economic white racism in America.

Deadbeat, lazy blacks are quick to embrace the Democrats’ its-all-whitey’s-fault narrative. Blacks who instinctively gravitate towards independence, self-reliance, education, and hard work, while making the right choices, ultimately achieve their American dreams. Self-empowered successful blacks are typically excoriated by leftists and fellow blacks, branded Uncle Tom traitors and sellouts.

A 90-year-old black relative beamed with pride over Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s granddaughter speaking at the March for our Lives rally in D.C. Experiencing the racism he endured back in the day, I can understand the 90-year-old’s racial pride. However, I saw Dr. King’s granddaughter’s appearance at the rally as another incident of leftists exploiting blacks to further their crazy agenda. It felt pointless to inform the 90-year-old that the rally was about generating hatred for innocent gun-owners and Trump. The kids were used as props. Less than 10% at the rally were teenagers. The rest of the crowd were women and Hillary’s Trump haters

My relative who is a Baltimore City bus-driver said most blacks believe Trump is racist because of what he said about Mexicans. I explained to her that Trump does not have a problem with Mexicans. Trump along with millions of voters have a problem with our country being invaded — people coming across our border illegally with no respect or desire to embrace our American culture.

My relative stared at me in disbelief when I told her about a map of San Francisco being created to help citizens avoid piles of poop left by the homeless.

I shared a fictional story I wrote a few years ago. In my story, I came home from a cruise to find my backyard overrun with foreigners camping out; snakes of electrical cords plugged into my power-socket. When I called the city to help remove my home invaders, local Democratic politicians called me a racist. Frustrated, I screamed, “This has nothing to do with race!”

Folks, leftists are calling Trump and his voters racist for pushing back against illegals invading our homeland.

My relative was also stunned to hear that black unemployment is at a historic low under Trump. She did not know black unemployment was through the roof under Obama.

Ignorance of the truth regarding numerous political issues is a huge problem in the black community. Every major black talk radio show, black TV network, black movies and most black churches sell the Democrats’ false talking points. No one in my family has heard of national conservative black talk radio hosts like Larry Elders and Herman Cain.

I spoke and sang at over 500 tea party rallies on numerous national bus tours; Tea Party Express and others. Numerous times to no avail, I approached the GOP about being more proactive about taking the truth to black communities.

I proposed a tour which I titled, “Reach Your Dreams” rallies. The idea was to take successful minorities into black neighborhoods to simply share their stories. Our mission would be to enlighten blacks to the wonderful truth that they are blessed to be born in the greatest land of opportunity on the planet. Reject the democrats’ evil divisive lie that blacks are victims in America. Get an education, work hard and make right choices to achieve your American dream.

Some Republicans said, “Why bother? Blacks will always vote Democrat.” I said we have a moral obligation to get the truth to blacks who are mentally stuck on Democrats’ plantation of deceptions and lies.

Educating my Baltimore bus-driver relative was a small step toward liberating blacks from Democrat and leftist bondage.

Bank Tip Exposes Illegal Workers at Meatpacker

The federal immigration raid on a Tennessee meatpacker was prompted by a bank alert showing large cash withdrawals for payrolls, according to a federal affidavit.

The cash payments since 2008 “were in excess of $25 million,” according to the federal affidavit posted by a local TV station, WATC.com.

Ninety-seven people were detained in the raid on Tennesee-based Southeastern Provisions, including 10 people arrested on federal charges and one person who was arrested on state charges. Of the remaining 86 people, 54 were detained, likely for deportation, while 32 were released.

The raid provides more evidence that federal officials at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are stepping up inspections and raids, as promised by USCIS director Thomas Homan. “We’ve got to get rid of the magnets,” Hamn said in December 2017. “We’re talking about employers who knowingly hire people who are not authorized to work.”

According to WATC’s description of the raid and the federal affidavit

An investigation revealed that James Brantley, who is the president of Southeastern Provisions and his wife Pamela Brantley, along with their daughter Kelsey Brantley and Priscilla Keck, an employee, were withdrawing cash to pay employees at the slaughterhouse …

A confidential informant working for law enforcement was hired by Southeastern Provisions and told law enforcement he never completed any paperwork nor was he required to show any identification or documentation before being hired. The informant said he was told he didn’t need a lawful identity to work at the company. He also reported he was paid in cash given to him in an envelope. The informant said most of the 60-70 employees he saw working were Hispanic.

The production workers were required to work overtime without being paid extra for their overtime hours, according to the informant. He said they were also required to work with harsh chemicals, including bleach mixed with other cleaning agents, without proper eye protection.

Press statements did not mention charges against the owners of the company, but those charges may be announced later.

Southeastern Provision, 1617 Helton Rd, Bean Station, TN. Credit: Googlemaps.

The raid is sending shock-waves through the meatpacking industry which is being caught between marketplace pressure to keep costs low and the federal laws barring the employment of cheap foreign migrants. This tough market depresses the Wall Street value of slaughterhouse companies, including the largest firm, JBS USA.

The pressure is also being raised by President Donald Trump, whose deputies have stepped up enforcement of immigration laws and have also restricted the supply of cheap imported workers for the meat-processing industry. For many years, the industry has relied on a mix of immigrants, illegal migrants and legal refugees from Syria, Somalia, and other unfortunate countries.

The resulting marketplace pressure is pressuring reluctant meatpackers to raise their salaries. For example, the JBS meatpacking company has raised salaries by 25 percent to help persuade more people to work in a Texas slaughterhouse, according to March 4 article in Washington Post.

Other industries are facing similar pressure from Trump’s pro-American policies.

In 2017, 800 illegal workers were removed from the Cloverhill bakery, in Chicago, opening up hundreds of jobs at higher wages to local Americans, including African-Americans.

In September 2017, the Asplundh Tree Expert Co. agreed to pay a $95 million fine for hiring illegals. That fine is a small payment for a 30,000-person company with revenues of $3.5 billion per year, but three company managers pled guilty to crimes.

Four million Americans turn 18 each year and begin looking for good jobs in the free market.

But the federal government inflates the supply of new labor by annually accepting roughly 1.1 million new legal immigrants, by providing work-permits to roughly 3 million resident foreigners, and by doing little to block the employment of roughly 8 million illegal immigrants.

The Washington-imposed economic policy of economic growth via mass-immigration floods the market with foreign laborspikes profits and Wall Street values by cutting salaries for manual and skilled labor offered by blue-collar and white-collar employees. It also drives up real estate priceswidens wealth-gaps, reduces high-tech investment, increases state and local tax burdens, hurts kids’ schools and college education, pushes Americans away from high-tech careers, and sidelines at least 5 million marginalized Americans and their families, including many who are now struggling with opioid addictions.

This state’s GOP lawmakers just introduced bill to consider seceding from America — here’s why

Americans in the south take the gun rights seriously. So seriously, apparently, that they’re willing to leave the United States should those rights be trampled on. And that’s exactly what Republican lawmakers in South Carolina threatened to do this week.

GOP lawmakers in The Palmetto State introduced legislation on Thursday to secede from the U.S. if the federal government begins to trample on American’s Second Amendment rights.

What does the bill do?

The bill would allow the South Carolina General Assembly to convene “to consider whether to secede from the United States based upon the federal government’s unconstitutional violation of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution if the federal government confiscates legally purchases firearms in this state.”

According to The Hill, GOP Reps. Mike Pitts, Jonathon Hill and Ashley Trantham introduced the measure.

The legislation comes amid an intense debate about the Second Amendment and the place of firearms in American society. Although many of the most outspoken voices are calling for increased gun control measures, South Carolina is a state that has always held close to their Second Amendment rights and show no sign of enacting gun control measures at time soon.

What are the chances the bill passes?

According to Pitts, not good. He said thinks the bill has no chance at passage, but introduced it to bring more attention to the issue of gun control, according to the New York Daily News.

However, it will be sent to the South Carolina State Senate for consideration next Tuesday, April 10.

South Carolina has already seceded from the U.S. one time in 1860. In fact, the state was the first to secede from the United States prior to the start of the American Civil War. The state was also a founding member of the Confederate States of America.

The state was fully restored to the U.S. in 1868.

Chicago officials caught short-circuiting required review of Obama Presidential Center

The so-called “Obama Presidential Center” in Chicago is not a presidential library, and it is not part of the National Archives.  It will contain no collections of presidential papers and therefore will have little if any value to historians and scholars of his presidency.  It is a private building, financed by private donations.  Its function appears to be serving as a monument to the man himself, offering space for basketball courts and meeting rooms for “community organizing,” among his favorite pursuits.  (No word on whether the presidential NCAA basketball brackets will be memorialized as yet.)

This private endeavor wants to take over land in two publicly owned properties that are on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jackson Park (on the Lake Michigan shoreline) and the Midway Plaisance, a treasured legacy of the Chicago World’s Fair that defines the surrounding neighborhoods, including the University of Chicago.  This federal landmark status of the two park properties triggers a requirement for what is called a “Section 106 review” under the terms of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.  Local Chicago officials are conducting that review and holding public hearings.  Sort of.

A local citizens group, Jackson Park Watch, is monitoring this review process and has discovered that it appears to be skipping over the hard part and moving toward a conclusion before the facts are considered.

As eloquently noted by Openland’s CEO Jerry Adelmann at last Thursday’s Section 106 meeting, there are significant problems with the process the City’s Department of Planning and Development and Department of Transportation are following as they conduct the required federal review of the proposals for the Obama Presidential Center and the related road changes it requires.  Two problems stand out: First, the City departments have omitted the necessary first step of including public participation in developing the statement of “purpose and need” that defines the project for review.  Second, they have instead drafted their own “purpose and need” statement without public input.

Already, it appears that the fix is in.  The public, who own the land, must be heard.  The power to define the purpose and need is close to the power to define the conclusion.  But it gets worse.  Much worse:

Rather than taking the current configuration of the park as the starting point for assessing the impact of the proposed changes, their statement disingenuously presumes that all of the OPC construction and road work has been completed and that only the resulting traffic problems need to be addressed.  As with the South Lakefront Framework Plan, there is an ongoing attempt to put the cart before the horse.

They have assumed away the nub of the problem: taking protected properties on the National Register of Historic Places and handing them over to a private party that will alter them forever.  This is the question that must be vetted by members of the public and the affected communities.  Focusing on traffic, as if the entire project were approved and completed, is short-circuiting the requirements of the law.

But there is even more chicanery:

Also of note at Thursday’s meeting was the new proposal to take the eastern portion of the Midway – land that the Obama Foundation previously hoped to use for a parking garage – for use as “replacement” land for the baseball diamonds that will be displaced as a result of the OPC siting in the park.  Ironically, this proposal could result in a net loss of park space unless the City fully meets its commitment to give the Park District new open green space equal to that taken for the OPC.  Further, this proposal disregards the fact that there is an existing Midway Plaisance Framework Plan, developed through a proper community process, that envisions other uses for this space.

This refers to the revisions made to the plan for a parking garage built on park land that is protected on the National Register of Historic Places.  Instead of an above-ground building, it is to be built below ground, and as I interpret this, they want to count it as “replacement” for other land (baseball diamonds) taken by the OPC.  Sorry, but at best, burying the garage only “replaces” the land it takes.  It should not be double-counted.  And the existing Midway Plaisance Plan, which was properly developed with community input, just gets junked.

The late, great Mike Royko coined the term “clout” as the characteristic description of the essence of Chicago politics.  With “clout,” anything is possible.  Without it, nothing ever gets past the governing authorities of Chicago or Cook County.

It is painfully obvious that plenty of old-style clout is in the hands of the OPC-backers.  What remains to be seen is how much clout the community groups can generate.  Jackson Park Watch concludes:

We hope that the haste with which the City and Obama Foundation are pursuing their objectives does not result in mistakes that will ultimately slow the entire project down.

I take this as a warning that the entire panoply of court reviews will be employed by opponents of taking park land, unless local officials start playing the game by the book.

Jay-Z: Trump Forcing Us to ‘Talk About Why White Men are So Privileged in this Country’

Jay-Z: Trump Forcing Us to ‘Talk About Why White Men are So Privileged in this Country’

Rap mogul Jay-Z sat down with David Letterman for his Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction and told the former late-night host that election of Donald Trump is a “good thing” because it’s “bringing out an ugly side of America that we wanted to believe was gone.”

“I’ll be honest with you,” Letterman began, “I’m beginning to lose confidence in the Trump administration.”

After some nervous laughter, Jay-Z replied, “I think it’s actually a great thing.”

“I think that what he’s forcing people to do is have conversations and [forcing] people to band together and work together,” said Jay-Z, who headlined a concert for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. “You can’t really address something that’s not revealed. He’s bringing out an ugly side of America that we wanted to believe was gone, and it’s still here. We still gotta deal with it.”

“We have to talk about the N-word and we have to talk about why white men are so privileged in this country,” the Grammy-winner, whose net worth is near $1 billion, explained.

Letterman chimed in, adding, “I completely agree. We don’t need more evidence.”

“Is he a racist? Is he not a racist?” Letterman said of President Trump. “I’m telling you, If you’re having a debate over whether a guy is a racist, chances are that guy’s a racist.”

Letterman last took swipes at President Trump while interviewing Pakistan-born activist Malala Yousafzai.

“I feel personally, not politically, but personally, he is not fit to represent me. I don’t think he’s fit to represent anyone in this room,” Letterman said of Trump.

Trump and Jay-Z had a war of words earlier the year, that ended with the president taking to Twitter and writing, “Somebody please inform Jay-Z that because of my policies, Black Unemployment has just been reported to be at the LOWEST RATE EVER RECORDED!”

How One Arizona Charter School Teaches Patriotism in Ten Easy Steps

“You can tell a Benchmark kid.  They love their country – they know why it’s special.”  I asked Carole Challoner, one of the founders of this public charter school in Phoenix, how she teaches patriotism to her elementary students.  The teachers do it by inspiring the kids with opportunities for gratitude, service, and patriotism.  Carole explained how Benchmark does it in ten easy steps.

1. August.  The school year begins with teaching the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.  Many students coming in from other schools do not know them.  Each morning, we play the national anthem over the P.A. system.  A couple of students from kindergarten, then rotating up the grades through the year, go to the office and lead the Pledge over the P.A. system.  The kids love being picked.

Lesson plans: Each grade learns the meaning of each stanza, what pledging means.  They know what they are saying.  “If I promise if I’m going to donate $2 of my allowance, that’s a pledge.”  Allegiance is standing for something that is right.  “To the flag” means you believe in what the flag stands for.  They learn how the flag came about, part of beginning a new country.

2. September.  We hold a school assembly outdoors and raise two new flags on 9/11 in remembrance.  In preparation, each class learns patriotic songs, appropriate to the grade – “We Love America,” “Three Cheers for the Red, White, and Blue” and so on, different for each grade level.

Reinforcement: At the end of the year, two students are recognized as “good citizens” and are given the flags to take home.  It is a great honor.  The teachers keep their eyes out for good citizenship – respect to teachers and fellow students, holding a door open for a teacher, cleaning up a mess in the playground without being asked, being kind to a fellow student.

3. October.  The kids collect jars of peanut butter and jelly for the troops serving our country.  Students help with the delivery to Packages from Home.  They collect nearly 3,000 jars in total.

4. One year, Benchmark had two teachers become new citizens and held their naturalization ceremony at the school.  This is now a yearly tradition.  The students sing their patriotic songs, and the new citizen takes their Oath of Allegiance.  After the ceremony, a new citizen visits each classroom to answer questions and explain why he wanted to become an American.

The lesson: It’s an eye-opener for kids, why people want to live here.  They realize how lucky we are to be born here.  The two things they all mention are, “I came here for freedom and to live the American dream.”  To work as hard as they want at what they want in order to become successful.  Kids love it; they are very excited.  They want to know why they left, why they came here.  We’ve had people from Venezuela, Bosnia, African countries.

5. November.  On Veterans Day we invite a veteran to each classroom.  It is great.  They explain why they served in the military.  How important it is to serve your country.  The students write personal notes of appreciation and give them to the vet – expressing appreciation for keeping them free.

They learn what kind of sacrifice is made for them. We’ve had vets without limbs, we’ve had family members talk about not having Dad at home for 18 months – that’s 2 school years. There is also an all school assembly attended by the veterans in their honor. Students share their poetry and letters to the vets along with singing beautiful patriotic music.

We keep a bulletin board in the school office to honor staff members and family members who have served -they all have their photos up with captions explaining who they are and where they served.Grandpa Joe served in Vietnam.

6. November – Thanksgiving.  The last two weeks of the month are a segment on the Pilgrims, with age-appropriate lessons for each grade.  They realize how brave the pilgrims were.  Kindergarteners tape out on the carpet the size of the ship the Pilgrims traveled on.  It is always a shock to see how cramped they were in the long journey over the sea.

7. December is Wreaths across America.  Kids and their families volunteer to buy wreaths and go to the National Memorial Cemetery.  Families and veterans show up to put wreaths on graves, but some graves have no one to honor them.  We have been able to purchase and place 400-500 wreaths yearly.  The Benchmark choir performs.  Kids hand out notes saying thank you to the visiting vets.  About 150 families do it each year.

8. December is also Christmas.  Every two classrooms adopt a military family, through the chaplain at Luke Air Force Base.  The kids buy Christmas presents and food for the military kids and their family.

9. Writing is an area where patriotism is regularly taught.  They write essays for Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day.  Ten students are chosen to present their essays at an assembly.  This is a big deal, and the kids are thrilled to be recognized for their achievement.  They compete in history essay contests held by the Daughters of the American  Revolution, Constituting America, the VFW, and the Elks Club.  They have to do the research.  Benchmark has had a number of contest-winners

10. On Washington’s birthday, Nancy Arnold, a retired Benchmark teacher who is very patriotic, dresses as Martha Washington and comes to school to teach.  She’s the author of Patriotic Pups, a children’s book on the American Revolution.

The classroom environment reinforces these lessons every day.  There’s an Uncle Sam poster in the classroom, asking, “What Are You Doing to Protect the Constitution?”  The kids learn that each of us has the responsibility as citizens to protect our Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  Classrooms have pictures of the current president; the Founding Fathers; the Declaration of Independence; and, in upper grades, the Preamble of the Constitution.

Benchmark is a public school.  Students are not handpicked – they get in by lottery.  Tuition is paid for by taxes, but as a charter, Benchmark has independence from the public school system.  Benchmark achieves academic excellence.  The school scores are almost twice the state average – 96% scores in science, for example – but equally important is teaching character.  “Everyone can tell a Benchmark student.  Our students are kind, they are respectful, they are caring, and they love their country.”

The two teachers who founded the school, Carole Challoner and Barbara Darroch, invested their own money for land and buildings, putting in sweat equity and years of hard work, because they had a clear idea of what they wanted to do differently.  As children, they lived in third-world countries, Carole because her very patriotic father served over 20 years in the Air Force, and Barbara because her father worked in the oil industry.

Carole explains, “We know how lucky our students are to have been born in this wonderful country, and it is our responsibility to make sure they never forget that.”

As news junkies, American Thinker readers learn weekly about the terrible things being taught to our kids in the public schools.  It is important to know our opponents and do everything in our power to stop what they are doing to the next generation.  It is equally important to know and celebrate the everyday heroes on our side.

Gratitude is the beginning of wisdom.  We have a lot of smart, dedicated, and capable people working for what is right and good.  As Carole Challoner teaches her students, we have many people to thank for their hard work and sacrifices.  Never forget the teachers out there who love our country, buck the system, and teach our children to love the national treasure that is America.  The Benchmark example can be spread far and wide.

Texas Dem Councilwoman Arrested After Berating Teenager For Wearing Trump T-Shirt…

So classy.

HOUSTON – Investigators at the Harris County Precinct One Constable’s Office on Wednesday filed a disorderly conduct charge against West University Place Councilwoman Kellye Burke, after accusations that she berated a group of teenage girls over a Trump T-shirt.

The girls said they were in line at Tiny’s Milk and Cookies in West U on Saturday, waiting to buy cookies for younger girls at their nearby church.

“A tall, short-haired blond woman came up to them and screamed, ‘Grab em by the (expletive) girls!’” the father of one of the girls said. He did not want to be identified, fearing retaliation against his daughter.

The girls initially tried to laugh it off, the father said.

“Then, she yells it again!” the father said. “At that point the girls were getting kind of scared, and then the woman starts, you know, going, ‘MAGA! MAGA! MAGA!’ while shaking her fist.”

One of the girls was wearing a shirt that read, “Trump: Make America Great Again,” the father said.

The father said the girls left without responding to the woman. He said one of the girls said she noticed that Burke had taken a picture of her.

“They were scared,” the father said. “They were absolutely scared. My little girl essentially wanted to know if this woman was going to hurt her.”
