Guns And Women: A Growing Trend

A ‘trend’ the media has just discovered.

Via WBTV:

There is a growing trend across the country and it’s being felt here in Charlotte. The number of women buying and shooting guns is growing.

I went to a local gun range where I talked to women and got their thoughts on the trend.

When I visited the Blackstone Shooting Sports range in Charlotte, I found many women shooting at targets. Corey Brausch told me, “It’s not something that’s just for the boys, it’s definitely for us too!”

For many women these days, gun ownership hits the target. Catherine Wells told me, “Fun. Just fun. A sense of relief knowing that I can do something accurately.”

Ashton Currie Coonrod says, “Finding a target and being able to have that challenge of hitting it on the dot, you know, that’s a lot of fun. And it’s a great social thing to be able to do with my girlfriends, with my husband…”

Nathan Davis is general manager of Blackstone Shooting Sports. He says 30 percent of the membership base here is female and it’s growing. He added, “New entrance to the market, that segment is growing all the time. That’s ladies, that’s people of different ethnicities that haven’t generally been involved in shooting sports. That’s people of different demographics. So the point is, the new entrance to the market, that trend is growing significantly, while the traditional shooter is, that is somewhat of a declining segment.”

Cathy Wright of Chapel Hill is a gun enthusiast and has received national recognition for her support of the second amendment. She thinks there are many reasons more women are picking up guns.

“A lot of women come from a rural background,” she says, “and they have used guns all of their life or they have been around guns all of their lives, so it’s comfortable for them. It’s a nice segue. The other group, perhaps, are the women who are concerned about their personal safety. And they get involved and learn how to shoot a gun, and they’re introduced to other guns, and they enjoy the experience.”

Mindless ‘March for Our Lives’ gun control kids have bigger worries than guns

While a group of know-it-all, know-nothing, arrogant adolescent (OK, that’s all redundant and self defining) puppets gather around the country, especially in Washington, D.C., for a celebrity-funded, virtue-signaling, and otherwise mysteriously funded so-called March for Our Lives, mouthing their string-pullers’ slogans, their peers are dying of other, non-trendy causes.  According to the Centers for Disease Control

Leading causes of deaths among adolescents aged 15 – 19 years:

  • Accidents (unintentional injuries)
  • Suicide
  • Homicide

While the teenies are marching and screeching and generally having a self-centered good time pitying themselves while telling adults what to do, let’s further pursue the major causes of adolescent death and injuries.

The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) monitors six types of health-risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults, including—

  • Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence
  • Sexual behaviors related to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection
  • Alcohol and other drug use
  • Tobacco use
  • Unhealthy dietary behaviors
  • Inadequate physical activity

Oh.

Given the publicity for the recent tragedy in Parkland, Florida, violent behavior among adolescents toward adolescents seems to have increased.  But no, adolescents are adolescents, and violence in adolescent society has generally remained stable over the past 25 years.  As a matter of fact, some categories, such as carrying a weapon on school property, being threatened with a weapon on school property, and being in a physical fight on school property, have decreased.

Carried a weapon on school property (such as, a gun, knife, or club, on at least 1 day during the 30 days before the survey) Decreased 1993—2015 Decreased 1993—1997 Decreased 1997—2015 Decreased

Sadly, there is an exception in these statistics  –  one that will not be addressed by the marchers because it is too…racist, sexist, ruinous to the narrative.

  • Among teenagers, non-Hispanic black males have the highest death rate (94.1 deaths per 100,000 population).
  • Homicide is the leading cause of death for non-Hispanic black male teenagers.  For all other groups, accident is the leading cause.

The deaths of these black males are usually caused by other black males.  Using guns.  Illegally obtained

But these victims won’t be numerous at the marches.  Those who will attend and preen and whine are in more danger of injury or death by something as mundane as preventable accidents.  Boring!

Deaths to teenagers 12-19 years comprise a small fraction of the total deaths occurring each year in the United States. From 1999 to 2006 less than 1 percent (0.68 percent) – or 131,000 deaths – occurred to teenagers 12-19 years. This represents an average of 16,375 deaths per year for this group. Teenage mortality is an important public health issue because the majority of deaths among teenagers are caused by external causes of injury such as accidents, homicide, and suicide. These causes of death are, by definition, preventable.

And what type of accidents causes the most adolescent deaths?

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens.  Six teens ages 16 to 19 die every day from motor vehicle injuries.  Per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are nearly three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be in a fatal crash.

Fortunately, teen motor vehicle crashes are preventable, and proven strategies can improve the safety of young drivers on the road.

But planning a safe driving march for teens, with tips on avoiding drinking or drugging and driving  (shush, shush – especially among adolescent males, especially among adolescent black males – shush, shush) is not on the agenda of the march’s puppet masters and their funders.  Nor are the reasons for it, nor are the reasons for an increase in suicide among adolescents.  Again, these boring but vital causes just aren’t trending, just aren’t of interest to the glittering celebs nor of the…let’s say it: those who want to confiscate guns.

So, as a former adolescent, I’ll give the teenage marchers some advice: don’t drink and drive.  Teenage suicide is increasing.  Guide your friends – or yourself – to your school’s counselors or other helpful, knowledgeable people.

And look around and see who is pulling your strings for his own benefit, not yours.  That way, hopefully, you’ll survive to be a wise 30-plus person like me lamenting how youth is wasted on the young.

They ‘Should Start Packing Their Sh*t’: John Bolton Set To Purge Obama Holdovers From White House

Attention Obama holdovers currently working to undermine President Trump’s foreign policy: your days in the White House are reportedly numbered.

Daily Caller reports:

Sources told Foreign Policy that Bolton’s planned purge will start with Obama administration holdovers and eventually broaden to include leakers and those disloyal to the president.

“Bolton can and will clean house,” a former White House official told Foreign Policy.

Another official issued a warning to former Obama officials — “Everyone who was there during Obama years should start packing their shit.”

But the purge reportedly won’t stop with former Obama appointees. A source told Foreign Policy that Bolton intends to “remove almost all the political [appointees] McMaster brought in.”

As The Gateway Pundit‘s Jim Hoft reported, President Trump announced Thursday that former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton will replace H.R. McMaster as National Security Advisor next month.

‘March for Our Lives’ Organizer Has Sickening Message for Teens Who Disagree

This is how liberals really feel about the rest of America.

Saturday’s “March for Our Lives” demonstration in the nation’s capital and cities throughout the country is being billed by a fawning mainstream media as a grassroots effort aimed at protecting all Americans from the threat of “gun violence.”

But in an NPR interview Friday, one of the moment’s best-known spokesmen let the real truth slip out.

The moment came when 17-year-old Cameron Kasky, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, was asked how he would respond to people his own age who disagreed with the national gun control hysteria that’s swept the country since the Feb. 14 shootings at the school.

“I’ve read some really interesting op-eds by students about your age who say, you know, ‘I’m growing up in rural America. Guns are part of my family’s culture. I like target shooting. I don’t think guns are a bad thing,’” “Morning Edition” host Noel King began.

Conservative Tribune Daily Email

Thanks For Subscribing!

“What do you say to a 17-year-old who fundamentally disagrees with you about some of this stuff?” King asked.

Kasky’s answer was chilling – and sickening.

“Well, I say we’re marching to protect you from other people like you who have guns,” the arrogant teenager answered. “And I say that target shooting, while it is a sport, we’ve become the targets.”

And that gives the game away.

Are these teenagers being used by left-wing political groups?

There’s no diversity of thought allowed in this movement, no room for good-faith disagreement. Like communists at their worst, dissent from the orthodox beliefs is evidence of a disturbed mind. “Tolerance” is reserved only for those who agree with their leaders.

To the gun grabbers, no matter how they dress it up in high-sounding language, the crux of the argument boils down to the fact that they’re willing to argue that anyone – literally anyone – who owns a gun in the United States is a potential mass killer.

To the gun grabbers, maniacs like the 19-year-old who committed the Parkland massacre aren’t aberrations. They’re representative of millions and millions of Americans who exercise their constitutional rights to own firearms for the own protection, and for the protection of their families.

And the only thing a responsible government can do when it’s faced with a horde of citizenry bent on destruction is to set up the stiffest possible controls.

RELATED: Confiscation: New Initiative Would Require Gun Owners to Turn in Their Weapons

In the liberal mindset, Americans who possess firearms aren’t simply free citizens exercising a God-given freedom that’s guaranteed under the Second Amendment, they’re potentially murderous criminal who need the strong hand of the state to control their every move.

To be fair, Kasky and his cohorts are only teenagers enjoying the thrill of sudden celebrity – being on the cover of Time magazine and winning adulation from adoring public has to be heady stuff for kids.

They might even think they’re sincere, but teenage sincerity, like teenage love, tends to be a fleeting thing.

In short, they’re fools, but they’re children.

The most sickening part of Kasky’s declaration is that it’s what’s really behind the manipulations that have made the anti-gun movement the left’s latest insulting assault on the majority of the American people.

Under left-wing direction, the Black Lives Matter gangsters preached that white Americans at heart are racists who harbor an oppressive hatred of all blacks. Under left-wing direction, the Women’s March harridans (and their #MeToo sisters) shriek that all men are sexual predators.

Now, under the behind-the-scenes control of national liberal groups, the March for Our Lives naïfs are going the final step, to declare that Americans who believe in their right to self-defense are actually murderers in their souls.

In the liberal mind, every one of these characteristics means more need for government wardens, more need for the state to control the lives of individuals, more need for a totalitarian system to turn free citizens into abject subjects.

It took an overconfident, arrogant teenager to let it slip with a sympathetic interviewer, but there it is:

It’s what liberals really feel about the rest of America.

House Approves Government Spending Bill Despite Conservative Revolt

By: Richard Cowan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved a $1.3 trillion spending bill to avert a government shutdown and fund federal agencies through Sept. 30, despite a revolt by fiscal conservatives worried about what they called runaway spending.

The Republican-led chamber backed the measure 256-167, sending it to the Senate ahead of a midnight Friday deadline. But 90 of the 238 House Republicans ignored pleas for support from House Speaker Paul Ryan and voted against it.

Coupled with recently enacted tax cuts, the bill is projected to lead to budget deficits of more than $800 billion for this year. Conservatives balked at the deficit spending and warned it could create problems for Republicans running for re-election in November.

"This omnibus doesn’t just forget the promises we made to voters—it flatly rejects them," Representative Mark Meadows, head of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, said after the vote. "This is wrong. This is not the limited government conservatism our voters demand."

The Senate is expected to vote on the measure late on Thursday or Friday, before current government funding expires at midnight on Friday. The White House said President Donald Trump will sign the bill, which significantly boosts defense funding but scales back spending requests on some of his other priorities.

Passage of the spending bill would end several months of intense bickering between Republicans and Democrats over spending priorities, which led to two short government shutdowns earlier this year.

SCALED-BACK TRUMP PROPOSALS

It also would include setbacks for Trump, who did not receive all of the funding he requested at one point in the negotiations for the southern border wall and whose proposals for severe cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency, State Department, and other federal agencies also would be scaled back.

Democrats complained that in the rush to pass the bill, few if any lawmakers had time to read through the 2,232-page tome to see what it actually contained. The bill was unveiled late on Wednesday.

White House budget director Mick Mulvaney told reporters the White House did not get everything it wanted in the massive spending package but the president planned to support it.

Trump said on Twitter the bill will allow him to start building a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico. "Got $1.6 Billion to start Wall on Southern Border, rest will be forthcoming," he wrote.

But Democrats argued the added funds will help build or restore a range of other barriers, including existing fencing, and would not pay for a concrete edifice that Trump originally said would be financed by Mexico—a claim the Mexican government has denounced.

Trump at one point wanted $25 billion included in the bill to fully fund construction of his proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall, but negotiations with Democrats on that fell apart early this week, according to congressional aides.

Instead, Trump would get nearly $1.6 billion more for border security this year. More border patrol agents could be hired, but there would not be the significant increase in immigration agents working the interior of the country.

The Department of Homeland Security had sought a big buildup in those officers to boost deportation of undocumented immigrants.

FIGHTING RUSSIAN HACKING

Besides the $80 billion boost in military spending, the largest in 15 years, the measure includes new money for infrastructure improvements and combating Russian election hacking.

In response to public anger and frustration over mass shootings, including a Feb. 14 massacre at a Florida high school, the bill also contains modest improvements to background checks for gun sales and grants to help schools prevent gun violence.

These provisions were far short of steps many Democrats and gun control groups say are needed to stop the shooting deaths of school children, concert-goers, church worshipers, and others.

A so-called "grain glitch" included in a tax law enacted at the end of last year would be repaired by the legislation.

Big grain buyers, such as Anheuser Busch Inbev NV, Cargill Inc, and the ethanol industry, have complained the glitch gives lucrative tax breaks to grain producers for selling to farming cooperatives, and a lesser break for selling to agriculture companies.

The bill will provide a $307 million increase above the administration’s request for counter-intelligence efforts to fight Russian cyber attacks in 2018, when U.S. mid-term congressional elections will be held, and $380 million for grants to states to secure their election systems.

Among the spending increases for non-defense programs are substantial healthcare investments, including a $414 million increase for Alzheimer’s disease research, $40 million more for research on developing a universal flu vaccine, and $17 million more for antibiotic-resistance bacteria research—all at the National Institutes of Health.

Other components of the bill include $10 billion in infrastructure spending for highways, airports, railroads, and broadband, and a $2.8 billion increase to fund treatment and prevention of opioid addiction and research into the subject.

Spirit Airlines Attendant Lectures Passengers About Anti-Gun ‘March For Our Lives,’ Tells Them To Clap For It

And guess who happened to be on the flight when she did it?

Via Twitchy:

Stoneman Douglas student activist Kyle Kashuv is on his way to D.C. today, but his trip is not off to a good start. Apparently the flight attendant on his Spirit Airlines flight decided to lecture the plane on this weekend’s “March For Our Lives” and, according to Kyle, made everyone clap at the end:

Facebook Suppresses Certain Media Outlets In Your Newsfeed. It Won’t Tell You Which Ones

And guess who those media outlets they suppress have in common?

Via Daily Caller:

Within the span of eight days in January, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced two different key changes to Facebook’s newsfeed algorithm that together have boosted a “trusted” minority of news outlets while suppressing their competitors.

First, Facebook would slash news articles’ share of the newsfeed from five percent to four percent in the coming months, Zuckerberg said. Second, Facebook would boost certain “trusted” news outlets and suppress other, ostensibly less trustworthy sources.

The algorithm changes have disproportionately harmed conservative publishers, tech website The Outline concluded in a lengthy report earlier in March. Conservative and right-wing publishers “were hit the hardest” by the algorithm change, the report found, “while the engagement numbers of most predominantly liberal publishers remained unaffected.”

Conservative website Western Journalism reached the same conclusion in a similar data report last week. Conservative websites saw a significant drop in traffic from Facebook following the algorithm change, while comparable liberal sources saw a slight increase, that report found.

‘Don’t Be Dick’s.’ Dick’s New Anti-#2A Gun Policy Has Officially Backfired In A Big Way

Via Twitchy:

Wait, what? You mean a sporting goods company banning the sale of all firearms to anyone under 21 is seeing a drop in their sales?

Gosh, we feel shocked.

Oh, wait, no we don’t.

From NRO:

Dick’s Sporting Goods has suffered a surprisingly steep downturn in sales since promising to sell fewer guns, but the problem isn’t the gun sales, Fortune says.

Stock tumbled to the lowest in four months after the sports store banned assault-style weapons from its Field & Stream stores and raised the minimum age for a customer to buy a firearm from 18 to 21.

We warned them.

The decision is “not going to be positive from a traffic standpoint and a sales standpoint,” Stack predicted.

The company’s shares fell 7.3 percent after going up 13 percent this year. Sales failed to hit the projected $2.74 billion, tapering off at $2.66 billion for this quarter.

No Joke: Australian Nurses Forced To Announce Their “White Privilege” Before Treating Indigenous Patients…

Unreal.

Via Daily Mail:

Australian nurses and midwives are being forced to announce their ‘white privilege’ before treating Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander patients –  a move which has been slammed as ‘racist to its core’.

The term ‘white privilege’ defines the unearned social and cultural advantages awarded to people with white skin which are not enjoyed by people of colour or non-white backgrounds.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board believes the cultural safety of Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander patients is just as important as their clinical safety.

But Graeme Haycroft, spokesperson for the Nurses Professional Association of Queensland, (NPAQ) told Sky News the addition to the code of conduct could have serious consequences for nurses and is simply ‘racist’

The Board describes the move as ‘a decolonising model of practice based on dialogue, communication, power sharing and negotiation, and the acknowledgment of white privilege’.

WATCH: Police Release Video Of Fatal Crash By Self-Driving Uber SUV

Law enforcement officials released video footage on Wednesday that shows the moment a self-driving Uber SUV hit and killed a pedestrian that was crossing the street at night.

Video of the crash, which happened in Phoenix, Arizona, shows that headlights on the self-driving Uber didn’t illuminate the victim until a split second before impact.

The video shows the backup human looking down at something, occasionally looking up, and immediately expressing shock at the moment the impact occurred.

“The driver said it was like a flash, the person walked out in front of them,” said Sylvia Moir, police chief in Tempe, Arizona. “His first alert to the collision was the sound of the collision.”

“It’s very clear it would have been difficult to avoid this collision in any kind of mode (autonomous or human-driven) based on how she came from the shadows right into the roadway,” Moir said. “I suspect preliminarily it appears that the Uber would likely not be at fault in this accident, either.”
