Best Troll Of Oscar Night Goes To . . .

No greater night to have been a Twitter troll than on Oscar night 2018 – the worst Oscar show in living history by every objective measurement.

From rap-star Common going off on an SJW freestyle rant during his performance to Jimmy Kimmel wishing he had no penis, the night came loaded with plenty of gold moments for trolls to have their way with. Ladies and gentlemen, here are the nominees for Best Troll Of Oscar Night 2018:

1. Stephen Miller

2. Dennis Miller

3. Chad Felix Greene

As they say, the nomination already makes you a winner. But the singular Best Troll of the night goes to none other than The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro for spoiling our childhoods in response to the fish sex movie “The Shape of Water” taking home Best Picture:

Also, kudos to Michael Knowles for digging up this gem of a tweet from President Trump back in 2014:

Holocaust survivor says TSA put her through ‘very demeaning body search’ while traveling

Eva Mozes Kor, an 84-year-old Holocaust survivor, tweeted Sunday that the TSA subjected her to what she called a “very demeaning body search.”

What did she say?

Kor wrote on Twitter, “Another very demeaning body search by the TSA – there has to be some way that at age 84 I can get some clearance by the POWERS of Government from this procedure. As I lecture about surviving Auschwitz I barely survive the TSA body search I detest it. That ruined my experience.”

Kor, from Terre Haute, Indiana, was traveling over the weekend to speak at a teachers’ conference at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque.

Kor told the teachers of her experience as a Holocaust victim and detailed her treatment through horrific scientific experiments at an Auschwitz concentration camp as a 10-year-old girl.

Kor tweeted on Monday, “Thank you everybody for caring about me and my stress left from Mengele’s experiments. I have been contacted by the TSA to help me and they are working with me to solve this problem. I fly tomorrow to Los Angeles to lecture this problem will be solved-thank you very much!”

Do we know anything else?

According to the Indy Star, it was unclear if the purported TSA search occurred at Albuquerque International Sunport.

The outlet added that according to the Associated Press, TSA Regional Public Affairs Manager Carrie Harmon had not immediately returned an email.

A documentary about Kor’s life — titled “Eva” — is set to debut in Indiana cities in April.

The film tells Kor’s life story, detailing how she lost her parents during the Holocaust and was displaced from the family’s Romanian home.

“Eva” also tells of Kor’s experiences in Auschwitz and details occurrences of being a subject of Josef Mengele’s science experiments.

As an adult, Kor has traveled the world speaking about her experience in Nazi Germany and professing her faith in the power of forgiveness.

“I discovered the cure from victimhood,” Kor said, according to CBS News. “Should I keep that to myself?”

In addition to delivering speeches of hope and perseverance across the world, Kor graduated from Indiana State University, where she received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Black Lives Matter Co-Founder Launches ‘Generously Funded’ Project To Build ‘Black Political Power’

Alicia Garza, an Oakland-based activist who co-founded Black Lives Matter, has discontinued her involvement with the group’s day-to-day operations to launch a “generously funded” project intended to build “Black political power” on the national, state, and local levels.

The transition allows for Garza to dedicate more time to her new role as principal of the Black Futures Lab – an advocacy group that was formally unveiled last week. She has been planning its rollout since 2017.

The first phase of her new endeavor begins this month when the lab will train 100 canvassers to interview thousands of black people for its Black Census Project. The initiative will cover 20 states and the District of Columbia, focusing on issues like generational oppression, mass incarceration, and police violence. Organizers hope to poll 200,000 individuals through field studies and an online survey to “clarify the diversity of wants and needs that Black people imagine,” and “transform” their communities.

“We can’t say [that] what black people in Oakland are experiencing is the same thing that black people are experiencing in Jackson, Mississippi,” Garza said in an interview with Mic. “Black communities are incredibly complex and not to the stereotype of what people have said they are.”

The targeted neighborhoods were chosen for their diverse, intersectional sample of black residents that organizers say have “consistently been left at the bottom of legislators’ agendas,” including unlawfully present immigrants, transgender persons, and formerly (and currently) incarcerated people.

The project expects to release its findings at the end of the year after partners have analyzed the responses. The results will help shape the platform of the Black Futures Lab, which maintains “a transnational outlook.”

“For a country built on the exclusion of Black votes, the Black Census Project is a vital step towards asserting the power of our community’s voices in an era where our president is leading a white nationalist movement against us,” said Rashad Robinson, executive director of Color of Change, a co-sponsor of the undertaking.

Color of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice group, built the lab’s website and designed its digital questionnaire. Information collected could potentially be used to dispute data that is soon to be compiled by the federal government.

As Mic reported:

Launch of the project comes as the U.S. Census Bureau readies its 2020 population count, which some civil rights groups worry has been underfunded by the Republican-controlled Congress. A lack of funding could lead to undercounting of certain communities, such as nonwhite or minority communities…

Unlike the bureau’s count, which collects information about race, household size, income and education level through in-person interviews and mail-in surveys, the Black Census Project’s online website aims to catch a litany of data points specific to the black experience in the U.S.

Garza said she believes the effort may constitute the largest, targeted survey of black people “after Reconstruction.”

Garza went on to tell Mic that the new initiative is “generously funded,” and several progressive organizations are likely to benefit from the data gathered. Presumably, those groups would include both Black Lives Matter and the National Domestic Workers Alliance, where Garza still serves as special projects director. The Roddenberry Foundation also provides Garza with financial support, as she is among several “activists, leaders and disrupters” that were recently awarded $50,000 fellowships.

Along with Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi, Garza co-founded Black Lives Matter in 2013 after George Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Since then, the organization has evolved into a global network of more than 40 official chapters.

In January, Tometi stepped away from the group to focus on other like-minded projects. She is currently executive director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration, where Tometi has worked for nearly eight years.

Cullors, based in Los Angeles, will remain with Black Lives Matter as a spokesperson, senior advisor, and chief strategist. According to its official website, she “will continue to work with BLM staff and network members as the Black Lives Matter movement enters its fifth year, and formulates and implements its 2018-2023 strategic plan.”

ADL Blasts Democrat Danny Davis for Praising Anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan

TEL AVIV — The Anti-Defamation League on Sunday slammed Rep. Danny Davis, an Illinois Democrat, for praising anti-Semitic preacher and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan as an “outstanding human being.”

“It is unfortunate that the congressman apparently can’t muster up the courage to denounce Farrakhan’s blatant anti-Semitism and instead chose to praise him,” an ADL spokesman told JTA.

Davis lauded Farrakhan as “an outstanding human being who commands a following of individuals who are learned and articulate,” according to an interview published in The Daily Caller.

In his defense, Davis said that his remarks were misunderstood and asked the ADL for more information regarding Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism. The ADL then provided Davis with a litany of Farrakhan’s vicious verbal attacks on Jews over the decades.

In a more recent interview with the Daily Caller, Davis dismissed the allegations of anti-Semitism.

“I know Farrakhan, been knowing him for years and years and years and years and years, and every once in a while some writer or somebody will I guess try to think of something to say about Farrakhan, but nah, my world is so much bigger than any of that,” he said.

“We are deeply disappointed with Congressman Davis’s statements about Farrakhan, an avowed anti-Semite who leads a group that traffics in hate not just towards Jews but also the LGBTQ community,” the ADL spokesman stated. “Hate should not be difficult to denounce. Once again we’re calling on the congressman to denounce anti-Semitism and all forms of hate.”

Last week, Farrakhan delivered a particularly rancorous anti-Semitic attack on Jews at the 2018 Saviour’s Day event in Chicago, calling Jews members of the “Synagogue of Satan” and claiming that Jesus called the Jews “the children of the devil” and “when you want something in this world, the Jew holds the door.”

“Jews were responsible for all of this filth and degenerate behavior that Hollywood is putting out turning men into women and women into men. And Farrakhan, by God’s grace, has pulled the cover off of that Satanic Jew and I’m here to say your time is up, your world is through,” the Nation of Islam leader said.

Progressive Zionist group Zioness charged three high profile leaders of the Women’s March with aligning themselves with Farrakhan.

“No one expects progressive leaders — who are humans — to be perfect. We expect them to be inherently good, as opposed to profoundly racist. It would be absolutely unacceptable to Tamika Mallory, Carmen Perez, and Linda Sarsour if a leader made heinous and hateful comments about their respective communities. And we would join them in loudly condemning that leader,” Zioness director Amanda Berman said in a statement Friday.

“Thus, it is hypocritical beyond words that they continue to align themselves with Louis Farrakhan, who is an unapologetic bigot that spews hate targeting the Jewish community, LGBTQ community, and others,” she continued.

“There is no ambiguity on this issue. Either the Women’s March leaders endorse the vilification of the Jewish people or they don’t. It’s that simple. This episode only reaffirms the need to activate and empower new leaders in the feminist movement who show up to fight for the civil and human rights of all people, not just some people.”

The Nation of Islam is an extremist group. Since Farrakhan became its leader, he has come under heavy fire for his anti-Semitic tirades. The Anti-Defamation League noted conspiracy theories peddled by Farrakhan, including the accusation that the Jewish people are “responsible for the slave trade as well as the 9/11 attacks, and that they continue to conspire to control the government, the media, Hollywood, and various black individuals and organizations,” the group said.

In her defense, Mallory posted a series of tweets saying, “Funny how folks interpreted my mention of one having enemies the same as Jesus, as me describing a certain group of people. That’s your own stuff.”

Perez, who was criticized by the ADL for posting “laudatory posts” on Farrakhan on social media, said in response that “there are no perfect leaders.”

Sarsour, who spoke at a Nation of Islam event in 2015, responded to Farrakhan’s “incendiary remarks this year [with] a glowing post on Perez’s Facebook page to praise Farrakhan’s youthful demeanor,” the ADL said.

Unions Claim California Fruit Will Die on the Vine After ICE Raids

Unions Claim California Fruit Will Die on the Vine After ICE Raids

California unions claim that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immigration raids across Northern California will destroy farmers by causing fruit to “die on the vine.”

President of the United Farm Workers of America Arturo Rodriguez has complained that last week’s ICE raids in Northern California, which led to widespread panic, is a threat to California’s agricultural industry.

His concerns were echoed by President of the Western Growers Association, Tom Nassif, who told Bloomberg that 75 percent of California’s 2 million farm workers are undocumented (illegal) aliens.

The union’s supposed outpouring concern for business came after it was reported that the Department of Justice is investigating Democrat Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf for tipping off illegal aliens through the media to suppress the effectiveness of ICE raids. ICE made 232 arrests, but the DOJ argued that Schaaf’s warning prevented up to 800 more criminal arrests.

National Sheriffs’ Association Executive Director and CEO Jonathan Thompson denounced Schaaf, saying her warning to illegal aliens put city residents and ICE officers in danger.

Despite liberals trying to paint ICE as victimizing harmless farm workers and their families, ICE claims that its focus in the arrest warrants was illegal aliens with criminal charges outstanding, mostly for failures to appear for court hearings.

U.S. immigration courts have the highest failure to appear rates of any courts in America. According to the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), 37 percent of all aliens that were free pending trial failed to appear for their hearings over the last twenty years.

Of the 2,498,375 foreign nationals from 1996 to 2015 that were not in detention during U.S. court proceedings, courts ordered 1,219,959 removed. Over 75 percent, or 918,098, of the deportation orders were issued for failing to appear. As of 2015, the United States had at least 953,506 unexecuted immigration removal orders.

CIS highlighted that 3,095 of the illegal aliens that failed to appear and then disappeared were from 36 countries that the U.S. State Department listed as hot spots for terrorism. About 338 individuals that disappeared were from countries labeled as state sponsors of terrorism, including Iran, Sudan, and Syria.

Mayor Schaaf continues to claim that ICE and the Trump administration’s vigorous immigration policy is racist. But ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan blasted Schaaf’s intentional actions as the equivalent of serving as gang lookout yelling that police were coming.

Peter Navarro: ‘The Swamp is Rising Up’ Against Trump on Trade

Peter Navarro: ‘The Swamp is Rising Up’ Against Trump on Trade

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro challenged establishment forces and lobbyists for raising alarms about a “trade war” in response to President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs.

“Lobbyists on K Street are in full throat against this, who cares?” Navarro said on Fox News on Monday. “We got the politicians, everybody in the swamp is rising up against it at the end of the day we’re getting a bad deal.”

Navarro made his remarks after former George W. Bush budget director Josh Bolten criticized Trump’s decision to level tariffs on aluminum and steel. Bolten is now the CEO of the lobbying firm Business Roundtable.

Navarro said that the current aluminum and steel production in the country was “untenable” in the United States, which was why Trump enacted the tariffs.

“There are virtually no costs here, there’s no downstream price impact,” he said.

He also dismissed the notion that Trump would exclude American allies like Canada from the tariff.

“No country excluded, firm line in the sand,” Navarro said.

Navarro’s argument for tariffs and trade renegotiations won out in a fierce debate with White House economic advisor Gary Cohn, as Trump repeatedly derided the former Goldman Sachs COO as a “globalist.”

“Our Steel and Aluminum industries are dead. Sorry, it’s time for a change!” Trump wrote on Sunday. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Second Incendiary Device Thrown in Mexican Border City Church in Week

Second Incendiary Device Thrown in Mexican Border City Church in Week

MATAMOROS, Tamaulipas — A second attack using a homemade incendiary device occurred during a popular church’s mass less than a week after a similar incident at this city’s cathedral.

The attack took place at the San Antonio de Padua Church in Matamoros when an unknown man dressed in black threw a bottle filled with corrosive chemicals, the Tamaulipas government revealed.

While the device did not cause any injuries or damage to the building, it did cause panic among churchgoers who rushed out of the sanctuary until emergency personnel secured the area and retrieved the device. The Tamaulipas government issued a statement claiming that the device did not explode, however, the Bishop of Matamoros confirmed the attack was the second in his diocese.

In a statement released by Matamoros Diocese, Bishop Eugenio Lira Rugarcia stated that the second incident was a cause for major concern.

“What appeared to have been an isolated incident has taken a new turn causing us grave concern since our parishioners and the citizenry, in general, has a right to a safe environment at their home and their place of gathering,” Lira Rugarcia said in a prepared statement.

The attack at the church comes less than three days after a Molotov cocktail attack at the cathedral in Matamoros. As Breitbart Texas reported, the homemade incendiary device caused an explosion and damaged several pews but did not cause any injuries.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. NRA Targets ‘Every Hollywood Phony,’ ‘Lying Media’ with Time’s Up-Inspired Ad

NRA Targets ‘Every Hollywood Phony,’ ‘Lying Media’ with Time’s Up-Inspired Ad

An NRA ad released on March 4 called out “every Hollywood phony” and the “lying media” to put them on notice that their “time is running out.”

The ad was released just hours before the 90th Oscars began. It promotes NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch’s new show and is clearly intended to send the signal that the claims of leftists in Hollywood, the media, and pro-athletes will not go unchallenged.

Loesch opens the ad by saying, “We’ve had enough of the lies, the sanctimony, the arrogance, the hatred, the pettiness, the fake news. We are done with your agenda to undermine voters’ will and individual liberty in America.”

She continues, “So to every lying member of the media, to every Hollywood phony, to the role model athletes who use their free speech to alter and undermine what our flag represents, to the politicians who would rather watch America burn than lose one ounce of their personal power … your time is running out”:

In the latter part of the ad, Loesch gets specific, referencing certain media and news personalities by name, putting them on notice as well.

She said, “To the Joy-Ann Reids, the Morning Joes, the Mikas, to those who stain honest reporting with partisanship, to those who bring bias and propaganda, to CNN, the Washington Post, the New York Times, your time is running out.”

#OscarsSoLeftist Hollywood Gloats at Oscars: ‘We Make Films to Upset Mike Pence’

In a repeat performance from last year, late night talk show host turned liberal political activist Jimmy Kimmel hosted The Oscars on March 4. Aired on ABC in prime time, the 90th Academy Awards show was so self-indulgent and stuffed with liberal propaganda, that it ran a full 50 minutes late.

An opening vintage-style radio broadcast incorporated last year’s winners rather lamely with a days of yore tone. Of actress Lupita Nyong’o, Jimmy Kimmel’s voiceover said, “She was born in Mexico and raised in Kenya. Let the tweet storm from the president’s toilet begin!”

The opening monologue was rife with Kimmel’s hot takes. They included reference to Oscar’s age – 90 – and Kimmel noted, like most 90-year-olds, “He’s probably at home right now watching Fox News.”

While talking about Jordan Peele’s three nominations – Best Director, Best Writing, and Best Picture – and the fact that he is an African American, Kimmel said that Peele’s movie Get Out made President Trump remark it was “the best first ¾ of a movie he’s seen this year.” Yeah, a not-so-clever implication that Trump is racist, if you know the film.

Then, as Kimmel pointed out the youngest actor nominated, he said his movie, Call Me by Your Name, was not made to make money but to irritate people like Vice-President Mike Pence. See, that movie is about an older man’s intimate relationship with a teenage boy. The liberal audience ate it up, it was easily one of the biggest joke reactions of the night. They love to say Pence hates gays, even if they have to throw in some gay pedophilia to do it.

Kimmel: Another young a nominated for the first time is Timothée Chalamet tonight. Look at that tux. Are you having fun? This is a big deal. He’s missing “Paw Patrol” to be here tonight. Don’t worry, Ryder and his team of pups saved the day. He’s the star of a small but powerful story “Call Me by Your Name.” Only two of the best picture movies made more than $100 million. That’s not the point. We don’t make films for money. We make them to upset Mike Pence. Right?

Kimmel asked the winners to try to keep their acceptance speeches short. Don’t worry, he made sure to remind them of the platform they would have, though, and to make use of it as they saw fit, in an apparent attempt to dispel reports producers were discouraging political talk at the Oscars. He himself plugged the student anti-gun rally coming up later this month, saying, “If you do win an Oscar tonight, we want you to give a speech, we want you to say whatever you feel needs to be said, speak from the heart, we want passion, you have an opportunity and a platform to remind millions of people about important things like equal rights and equal treatment, if you want to encourage others to join the amazing students at Parkland at their March on the 24th, do that.”

Kimmel really played up the themes of diversity and things being historic in Hollywood right now. He brought up the movie Black Panther twice, the second time going on about why superheroes are always white, and then noted what a dark and depressing time reality has been lately. Making a huge leap, he segued back to the category coming up, saying documentaries can give us hope, but Hope Hicks quit the White House Wednesday. Get it? Then (female!!!) director Greta Gerwig and actress Laura Dern came on stage to talk about how important it is now (i.e. in the Trump era) to understand what is real and what is truth.

Kimmel: Quick update, since the show started 47 minutes ago, “Black Panther” made another $48 million. Just saying. “Black Panther” has been so successful, they’re already saying it’s the favorite to not get nominated for anything next year. It’s weird that so many superheroes are white just because that’s what they were in the comics, right? People say, well, Superman is white. He’s always been white. Yeah, you know what else Superman has always been? Not real. If the last two years have taught us anything, it’s that reality can be depressing, but tonight’s dominated documentary show us where there is darkness, there is also hope, except at the White House. Hope quit on Wednesday. Here to present the award for best documentary feature, Greta Gerwig and Laura Dern.
Laura: Good evening. And congratulations, buddy.
Greta:  Thank you. We live in a time when now, more than ever, all of us need to understand the importance of what is real, what is authentic, and what is fact.
Laura: That is why documentary filmmakers are revolutionaries, play such a vital role. For their stories of truth, of actual people and actual events, can cut through the clutter and noise and help us shape our understanding of the real world we live in.

There were a lot of hits about illegal immigration and Mexico.

Lupita Nyong’o and Kumail Nanjiani said before presenting an award that they were both immigrants and “dreamers.” A play on words, they told DREAMers that “We stand with you” and “Dreams are the foundation of Hollywood. And dreams are the foundation of America.” What they didn’t say is that legal immigration is the foundation of America, a nation of laws.

After winning for Best Animated Feature Film for “Coco,” Lee Unkrich ended his acceptance speech saying, “And the biggest thank you of all to the people of Mexico. ‘Coco’ would not exist without your endlessly beautiful culture and traditions,” which got sustained applause. He continued, “With ‘Coco’ we tried to take a step forward toward a world where all children can see characters in movies that look and talk and live like they do. Marginalized people deserve to feel like they belong. Representation matters.”

Comedian Dave Chappelle introduced one of the nominees for Best Song, in a performance dominated by the rapper Common. The social justice warrior even worked in a new slam against the NRA – they are “in God’s way.” Standing on stage with them were “ten extraordinary human becomes who answered the call to action and are unsung heroes,” including Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards – bleh! At the end, he had the audience standing on its feet as he demanded they “stand up for DREAMers.”

Dave Chapelle: Welcome award-winner, Common.
Common: On Oscar night this is the dream we tell a land where DREAMers live and freedom dwells, immigrants get the benefits, we put up monuments for the feminists, tell the NRA they in God’s way and to the people of Parkland we say sentiments of love for the people of Africa, Haiti, to Puerto Rico.

Identity politics were strong and Best Actress Winner Frances McDormand got her minute to ask all the women nominated in the audience to stand as she demanded more women’s projects be funded. The winners of Best Original Song said of those nominated in their category, “Not only are we diverse, but we are close to 50/50 for gender representation.” And the audience cheered when Emma Stone introduced the Best Director category with “These four men and Greta Gerwig created their own masterpieces this year.”

Every awards show must have a designated lapel pin or ribbon and this year’s Oscars is no different. The gun-grabbing crowd-funded by billionaire former mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety, were reported to be sporting orange anti-gun violence pins. The choice of color puts new meaning to orange is the new black. This isn’t exactly a bold statement on the part of the protected class – armed L.A. police and private security guards were out in force.

The 90th Academy Awards are in the books. It was another almost four hours of self-satisfied celebrities and Hollywood elites congratulating each other while lecturing the rest of us. I miss the days of award shows that were truly fun to watch and only about entertainment, not political lectures and mean jokes.

Obama Pressures Facebook to Censor News; Zuckerberg Complies and Crushes Trump on Facebook

Facebook has caved to Democrat political pressure and is censoring newsfeeds on users’ pages, as Mark Zuckerberg explains, for their own good.  The progressives at Facebook have gone nuclear.

We built Facebook to help people stay connected and bring us closer together with the people that matter to us. That’s why we’ve always put friends and family at the core of the experience. Research shows that strengthening our relationships improves our well-being and happiness.  But recently we’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content — posts from businesses, brands and media — is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other.

Cutting through the Orwellian talk of connecting us together and ‘feedback from our community,’ this is an entirely political story.  After Donald Trump’s election, Zuckerberg came under tremendous pressure to use Facebook for the Democrats’ Resistance.  All the bludgeons were brought out – Russian bots, fake news, that Facebook handed an unearned victory to Trump.  And the greatest of all, the threat of government regulation.

At first Zuckerberg resisted the Resistance, but then he caved suddenly, following a personal intervention by Obama.

The results of Obama’s intervention are in:

Engagement on Donald Trump’s Facebook posts has dropped by approximately 45 percent since the platform introduced a new algorithm change, following a year of pressure from left-wing employees and the mainstream media for “allowing” the President to win the 2016 general election.

The most interesting aspect of the progressives’ victory has received almost no press.  It was Barack Hussein Obama himself who knuckled Zuckerberg, in a ‘chance’ encounter at an anti-poverty gathering of the glitterati, in Peru.   Obama openly told Zuckerberg he had to do something about the next presidential race.

The Washington Post reported last fall:

Nine days after Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg dismissed as “crazy” the idea that fake news on his company’s social network played a key role in the U.S. election, President Barack Obama pulled the youthful tech billionaire aside and delivered what he hoped would be a wake-up call.

For months leading up to the vote, Obama and his top aides quietly agonized over how to respond to Russia’s brazen intervention on behalf of the Donald Trump campaign without making matters worse. …Now huddled in a private room on the sidelines of a meeting of world leaders in Lima, Peru, two months before Trump’s inauguration, Obama made a personal appeal to Zuckerberg to take the threat of fake news and political disinformation seriously, although Facebook representatives say the president did not single out Russia specifically. Unless Facebook and the government did more to address the threat, Obama warned, it would only get worse in the next presidential race. (snip)

The conversation on Nov. 19 was a flashpoint in a tumultuous year in which Zuckerberg came to recognize the magnitude of a new threat — a coordinated assault on a U.S. election by a shadowy foreign force that exploited the social network he created.

Until Obama’s intervention, Facebook corporate policy was rock solid.  Zuckerberg’s entire business model was that Facebook is a platform, not a content provider.  The company has always claimed they have no responsibility for content.   The Jewish Press begged Zuckerberg to block Islamic Facebook pages teaching how to make ‘lone wolf’ knife attacks fatal.   Zuckerberg refused.  Not his problem.

In the past, Facebook often bowed to PC pressure from the feminist, gay and Islamic communities.  Pamela Geller got fed up with being blocked and sued.  A gun range owner was blocked after the Orlando shooting for offering free self-defense classes to LGBT.  Pro-life crowdfunding a movie on Roe v. Wade was blocked, as were dozens of conservative Catholic websites.  But these forays into censorship of conservatives were isolated, and often reversed with claims they had been done by mistake.

That was before the Obama White House had to cover its tracks of spying on the Trump campaign and newly elected President Trump.

At first, Zuckerberg was impervious to the hysteria that fake news and Russian bots on Facebook had thrown the election to Trump.  He knew it was nonsense, because he’s a numbers and data guy, and the reach of Russian accounts was pitiful.

Russian interference generated 129 real-world events that drew 340,000 Facebook users.  If we look at the number of mobile active Facebook users for December 2016, we see that there were 1.74 billion.  Thus, the Russians commandeered 0.000195402% of the Facebook users for that one month.

You could argue that the election was thrown in a few key states, where targeted fake news confused voters.  From the Washington Examiner:

Looking at key states, the total spent on ads targeting Wisconsin was $1,979, according to Senate Intelligence Committee chairman Richard Burr. Ad spending in Michigan was $823. In Pennsylvania, it was $300.  That is not the stuff of rigging elections.

As for Russian content that appeared on newsfeeds:

“This equals about four-thousands of one percent (0.004%) of content in News Feed, or approximately 1 out of 23,000 pieces of content,” Facebook executive Colin Stretch said in prepared testimony before the Senate last November.

From wired.com:

…at a conference two days after the election, Zuckerberg argued that … “The idea that fake news on Facebook—of which, you know, it’s a very small amount of the content—influenced the election in any way, I think, is a pretty crazy idea,” he said….he likes to form his opinions from data. And in this case he wasn’t without it.

Zuckerberg was correct.  The idea that fake news on Facebook helped elect Trump is crazy.

Donald Trump needed Russian help to be effective on Facebook?  That’s crazy.  The idea that Trump betrayed his country for help on social media is crazy.  And the idea that the scale of the Russian effort on Facebook had any impact is crazy.

But telling the truth in Obama’s progressive America is not allowed.

Zuckerberg’s comments did not go over well, even inside Facebook. They seemed clueless and self-absorbed. “What he said was incredibly damaging,” a former executive told WIRED. “We had to really flip him on that. We realized that if we didn’t, the company was going to start heading down this pariah path that Uber was on.”

Zuckerberg was soon disabused of the notion that he could data check whether fake news threw the election.  Nice little company you have there.

“After the election, because Trump won, the media put a ton of attention on fake news and just started hammering us. People started panicking and getting afraid that regulation was coming. …and we decided to figure out how we could put together our own packaged program that shows how seriously we take the future of news.”

It took Facebook a long time to figure out how to control fake news.

Censorship at Facebook is no longer a bug.  It is a feature.  President Trump’s clicks are down 45%.
