Ann Coulter: The School to Mass Murder Pipeline

Nikolas Cruz’s psychosis ended in a bloody massacre not only because of the stunning incompetence of the Broward County Sheriff’s Department. It was also the result of liberal insanity working exactly as it was intended to.

School and law enforcement officials knew Cruz was a ticking time bomb. They did nothing because of a deliberate, willful, bragged-about policy to end the “school-to-prison pipeline.” This is the feature part of the story, not the bug part.

If Cruz had taken out full-page ads in the local newspapers, he could not have demonstrated more clearly that he was a dangerous psychotic. He assaulted students, cursed out teachers, kicked in classroom doors, started fist fights, threw chairs, threatened to kill other students, mutilated small animals, pulled a rifle on his mother, drank gasoline and cut himself, among other “red flags.”

Over and over again, students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School reported Cruz’s terrifying behavior to school administrators, including Kelvin Greenleaf, “security specialist,” and Peter Mahmood, head of JROTC.

At least three students showed school administrators Cruz’s near-constant messages threatening to kill them — e.g., “I am going to enjoy seeing you down on the grass,” “Im going to watch ypu bleed,” “iam going to shoot you dead” — including one that came with a photo of Cruz’s guns. They warned school authorities that he was bringing weapons to school. They filed written reports.

Threatening to kill someone is a felony. In addition to locking Cruz away for a while, having a felony record would have prevented him from purchasing a gun.

All the school had to do was risk Cruz not going to college, and depriving Yale University of a Latino class member, by reporting a few of his felonies — and there would have been no mass shooting.

But Cruz was never arrested. He wasn’t referred to law enforcement. He wasn’t even expelled.

Instead, Cruz was just moved around from school to school — six transfers in three years. But he was always sent back to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in order to mainstream him, so that he could get a good job someday!

The moronic idea behind the “school-to-prison pipeline” is that the only reason so many “black and brown bodies” are in prison is because they were disciplined in high school, diminishing their opportunities. End the discipline and … problem solved!

It’s like “The Wizard of Oz” in reverse. The Wizard told the Scarecrow: You don’t need an education, you just need a diploma! The school-to-prison pipeline idiocy tells students: You don’t need to behave in high school, you just need to leave with no criminal record!

Of course, killjoys will say that removing the consequences of bad behavior only encourages more bad behavior. But that’s not the view of Learned Professionals, who took summer courses at Michigan State Ed School.

In a stroke of genius, they realized that the only problem criminals have is that people keep lists of their criminal activities. It’s the list that prevents them from getting into M.I.T. and designing space stations on Mars. Where they will cure cancer.

This primitive, stone-age thinking was made official Broward County policy in a Nov. 5, 2013, agreement titled “Collaborative Agreement on School Discipline.”

The first “whereas” clause of the agreement states that “the use of arrests and referrals to the criminal justice system may decrease a student’s chance of graduation, entering higher education, joining the military and getting a job.”

Get it? It’s the arrest — not the behavior that led to the arrest — that reduces a student’s chance at a successful life. (For example, just look at how much the district’s refusal to arrest Nikolas Cruz helped him!)

The agreement’s third “whereas” clause specifically cites “students of color” as victims of the old, racist policy of treating criminal behavior criminally.

Say, in the middle of a drive to cut back on the arrest or expulsion of “students of color,” how do you suppose the school dealt with a kid named “Nikolas Cruz”? Might there be some connection between his Hispanic last name and the school’s abject refusal to do anything about Cruz’s repeated criminal behavior?

Just a few months ago, the superintendent of Broward County Public Schools, Robert W. Runcie, was actually bragging about how student arrests had plummeted under his bold leadership.

When he took over in 2011, the district had “the highest number of school-related arrests in the state.” But today, he boasted, Broward has “one of the lowest rates of arrest in the state.” By the simple expedient of ignoring criminal behavior, student arrests had declined by a whopping 78 percent.

FOOTBALL COACH: “When I took over this team a year ago, we were last in the league in pass defense. Today, we no longer keep that statistic!”

When it comes to spectacular crimes, it’s usually hard to say how it could have been prevented. But in this case, we have a paper trail. In the pursuit of a demented ideology, specific people agreed not to report, arrest or prosecute dangerous students like Nikolas Cruz.

These were the parties to the Nov. 5, 2013, agreement that ensured Cruz would be out on the street with full access to firearms:

Robert W. Runcie, Superintendent of Schools

Peter M. Weinstein, Chief Judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit

Michael J. Satz, State Attorney

Howard Finkelstein, Public Defender

Scott Israel, Broward County Sheriff

Franklin Adderley, Chief of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department

Wansley Walters, Secretary of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice

Marsha Ellison, President of the Fort Lauderdale Branch of the NAACP and Chair of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board

Nikolas Cruz may be crazy, but the parties to that agreement are crazy, too. They decided to make high school students their guinea pigs for an experiment based on a noxious ideology. The blood of 17 people is on their hands.

Deadline-less DACA just the latest stage of a never-ending story

Democrats breathed a sigh of relief on Monday after the Supreme Court made it clear that DACA would continue for the foreseeable future with or without legislation. Their activist allies shouldn’t be as sanguine. Without a deadline, it looks like action on DACA won’t come for months now, NBC noted earlier today:

The Supreme Court’s decision not to intervene in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program at this point has given Congress a reprieve on an issue that has tied up Washington for months.

After the decision was announced Monday, House Speaker Paul Ryan indicated that there was less urgency to address the program, known as DACA. …

Giving the courts time to finish hearing the case and any subsequent appeals could push back any legislative deadline beyond the November midterm elections.

But it doesn’t mean that the sometimes bitter fight on immigration, which has contributed to a government shutdown this year, is going away.

Actually, it does and it doesn’t. It’s already largely disappeared from the headlines, except for a protest yesterday involving Catholic priests and nuns. (One acquaintance of mine, Fr. Thomas Reese of the Religion News Service, got himself arrested as he’d earlier promised.) In part that’s because of the gun-control debate, but that’s another example of the same dynamic. Both sides have invested themselves in entrenched positions rather than effective solutions.

So in one sense, the debate on DACA has gone away with the deadline for action removed, or at least indefinitely postponed. Never mind that the program is now locked out to new applicants; Democrats don’t have much incentive to end the argument, and Republicans don’t need to act to prevent being blamed for the consequences of failure. It’s both gone and ever-present, only becoming acute when either side needs to boost its base.

In my column for The Week, I point out that an effective solution is already on the table, and that a compromise would benefit everyone. This, of course, means it won’t happen until a deadline reappears, especially if all Congress can muster is a down payment on the border wall in exchange for DACA:

That gives Trump almost nothing in hand while coughing up all the leverage he has for bargaining up front. Besides, as Trump rightly argues, Congress authorized the building of the border wall 12 years ago with a significant number of Democratic votes, due at least in part to criticisms from the bipartisan 9/11 Commission over the lack of security on both borders. Waiting another 10 years to fund a wall that Congress authorized makes little sense, either pragmatically or politically. Without the full funding in place up front, Congress would be asking Trump to approve DACA on credit when they have a long history of not paying the bill.

Furthermore, a statutory form of DACA that envisions new applicants for the foreseeable future sets up an incentive for illegal entries by parents who understandably want better lives for their children. Most such parents work through the legal immigration system to achieve that, and most Americans welcome them. However, DACA applies specifically to illegal immigrants; deferred action on prosecutions are hardly needed for legal immigrants. Creating that incentive without securing the border will eventually make the DACA issue a permanent fixture in American politics rather than providing a comprehensive resolution of an unfortunate set of circumstances from earlier failures to address immigration policy and border security.

The best compromise would be to settle for three pillars rather than four or two. Regularize the DACA program in statute with a path to citizenship as Trump has proposed, in exchange for full and immediate funding for the border wall ($25 billion) and an end to so-called chain migration specifically for those within the DACA program. The visa lottery system can wait for broader immigration reform. That would satisfy the constituents for all sides while actually providing solutions rather than more opportunities for failure.

How long will it take before Congress and the White House come up with a workable and effective compromise? That’s anyone’s guess … but a deadline would sure come in handy.

To put this in perspective, the $25 billion ask is less than 10% of the additional amount of money Congress added to spending over the next 18 months in order to pass a budget. Jeff Flake just bumped up Congress’ proposed FY2019 contribution to a little over $7 billion, with the rest of it pledged in the following ten years. It’s nonsensical after twelve years of inaction. But it sure makes a lot of sense if the desired end result isn’t an effective solution, but instead an effective means of political fundraising and demonization.

President Trump Asks Dianne Feinstein to Add ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban to School Safety Bill

President Trump Asks Dianne Feinstein to Add ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban to School Safety Bill

President Trump asked Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to add her “assault weapons” ban to the overarching school safety bill during a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers on Wednesday.

Feinstein’s bill, which is an enhanced reintroduction of a bill she has put forward again and again, bans over 200 different firearms.

During Wednesday’s White House meeting, Trump showed support for the gun control pushed by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Pat Toomey (R-PA). The Manchin/Toomey bill is a gun control bill that the Democrat-controlled Senate rejected on April 17, 2013. But Trump chalked that failure up to Barack Obama’s lack of leadership, and talked of using the Manchin/Toomey bill as a base to which other bills could be added.

The goal was to create a body of gun legislation, ubiquitously for the purposes of school safety.

Sen. Feinstein talked about her bill and described the AR-15 as one of “the latest and newest weapons” to hit our streets. However, Eugene Stoner designed the AR-15 in the 1950s and Armalite began producing the gun during the 1960s. Are weapons from 60 years ago now considered “latest and newest”?

Nonetheless, Trump listened to Feinstein, heard from a few more gun control proponents—including Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL)—then looked back at Feinstein and told her she should add her bill to the Manchin/Toomey bill for consideration.

SHUT IT DOWN=> Robert Mueller Investigating Whether Trump Tried to Oust AG Sessions Last Summer: Report

SHUT IT DOWN=> Robert Mueller Investigating Whether Trump Tried to Oust AG Sessions Last Summer: Report

A new report reveals dirty cop Mueller is investigating whether President Trump tried to oust Attorney General Jeff Sessions last summer.

What the hell does this have to do with Trump-Russia collusion during the 2016 election?

Mueller is out of control. He’s afraid if Sessions is replaced with someone who isn’t afraid of the Deep State, Rosenstein’s head will roll and the Special Counsel will be shut down.

The Washington Post reports:

Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III has been investigating a period of time last summer when President Trump seemed determined to drive Attorney General Jeff Sessions from his job, according to people familiar with the matter who said that a key area of interest for the inquiry is whether those efforts were part of a months-long pattern of attempted obstruction of justice.

In recent months, Mueller’s team has questioned witnesses in detail about Trump’s private comments and state of mind in late July and early August of last year, around the time he issued a series of tweets belittling his “beleaguered” attorney general, these people said. The thrust of the questions was to determine whether the president’s goal was to oust Sessions in order to pick a replacement who would exercise control over the investigation into possible coordination between Russia and Trump associates during the 2016 election, these people said.

On July 24th Trump publicly slammed the AWOL Jeff Sessions on Twitter.

Trump tweeted, “So why aren’t the Committees and investigators, and of course our beleaguered A.G., looking into Crooked Hillarys crimes & Russia relations?”

Trump also told the New York Times in an interview in late July he wished Sessions didn’t recuse himself.

“Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else,” Trump said.

“How do you take a job and then recuse yourself? If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said ‘thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you,” he continued. “It’s extremely unfair — and that’s a mild word — to the president.”

President Trump lashed out at AWOL AG Sessions again on Wednesday morning.

President Trump lashed out at Sessions for asking the Inspector General to look into Obama era FISA abuse. Trump correctly states it “will take forever.”

In a rare move, AG Sessions responded to President Trump’s Twitter fury Wednesday afternoon.

SESSIONS said in a statement:

“We have initiated the appropriate process that will ensure complaints against this Department will be fully and fairly acted upon if necessary. As long as I am the Attorney General, I will continue to discharge my duties with integrity and honor, and this Department will continue to do its work in a fair and impartial manner according to the law and Constitution.”

Mueller and his team of liberal hack lawyers need to be shut down and a Special Counsel needs to investigate Mueller, Rosentein and other corrupt operatives from Obama’s DOJ and FBI.

On Wednesday, Rep Lee Zeldin (R-NY) sent a letter to AWOL Attorney General Jeff Sessions urging him appoint a Special Counsel to investigate FISA abuses and how/why Hillary’s probe ended and Trump’s Russia probe began.

President of Judicial Watch Tom Fitton reacted to the new report by WaPo:

Far Left Antifa Activists Openly Chant to Murder Conservatives (VIDEO)

On Thursday, June 2, 2016, peaceful supporters of Donald Trump gathered at the San Jose Convention Center for a political rally in support of the Republican nominee.

The Trump supporters were all smiles as they waited to see candidate Trump on the rope line.

Little did they know that outside the center radical leftists, Bernie supporters, Muslims, Mexican nationalists, anarchists, SEIU members and several hundred angry thugs were waiting to spit on them, chase them, assault them and beat them bloody.

The days of interrupting speeches are over.
Democrats escalated their tactics on Thursday and will now beat skulls.

One young Trump supporter was followed and cold-cocked and left bleeding as he walked to his vehicle.

Another woman was cornered by a mob of Mexican nationalist chanting “F*ck you!” They beaned her in the face with raw eggs and spit on her.

It was not until she lost her vision that the Marriott staff let her in.
Thanks Marriott!

(Note: The liberal Washington Post said she “taunted” them — by wearing a Trump shirt, smiling, and flashing the peace sign!)

They chased Trump supporters down the street.
One black Muslim chased down and tackled a young Trump supporter with his thug buddies. He later bragged about it on Twitter.

Several Trump supporters were cold-cocked and left staggering.
The San Jose police were noticibly absent.

Many were chanting “Bernie! Bernie!” after socialist Bernie Sanders.

The images were aired a bit on TV but mostly ignored.
Bloody Trump supporters won’t make many headlines.
It doesn’t fit the liberal media agenda.

Since that time Antifa has upped their violence and threats.
And the media continues to ignore the far left violence.

Today far left activists are making open calls to murder conservatives.

This story gets no press.

And conservative leaders mostly ignore this violence against their supporters.

NRA Responds to Gun Control Proposals Discussed During White House Meeting With Congressional Officials

BY:

The National Rifle Association (NRA) responded to the White House’s televised meeting with top congressmen and senators on Wednesday by saying it did not support the new gun control measures that were proposed.

“While today’s meeting made for great TV, the gun-control proposals discussed would make for bad policy that would not keep our children safe,” Jennifer Baker, a spokesperson for the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, told the Washington Free Beacon. “Instead of punishing law-abiding gun owners for the acts of a deranged lunatic, our leaders should pass meaningful reforms that would actually prevent future tragedies.”

The NRA said the focus should instead be on making schools safer and keeping guns out of the hands of the dangerously mentally ill.

“They can start by fixing the broken mental health system, strengthening background checks to ensure the records of people who are prohibited from possessing firearms are in the NICS system, securing our schools and preventing the dangerously mentally ill from accessing firearms,” Baker said. “Whether you love or hate firearms, we all want to send our children to safe schools and to live in safe communities.

“The National Rifle Association has always supported efforts to secure our schools and keep firearms out of the hands of those who are a danger to themselves or others, whether they are criminals or mentally ill. This can be accomplished without shifting the focus, blame, or burden onto safe, law-abiding gun owners.”

During Wednesday’s meeting, President Donald Trump suggested combining a number of initiatives favored by Democrats into a package deal and passing it into law.

At various points throughout the discussion, he advocated for extending federal background checks to sales of used guns between private individuals, banning those under 21 from purchasing certain kinds of rifles and shotguns in addition to the current handgun ban, considering an outright ban on so-called assault weapons, and seizing some people’s guns without or before due process. These are all proposals which the NRA and most Republican lawmakers have opposed in the past.

Trump also shot down suggestions from Republicans like House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.) on adding national gun-carry reciprocity, a top Republican gun priority, to any deal under consideration because he viewed it as impossible to pass. The president advocated for the removal of gun-free zones—which Republicans favor—as well, but he didn’t suggest it be included in the gun package he was seeking.

He also supported the Fix NICS legislation, which has broad bipartisan support, as a core component of a potential deal. The NRA lobbied to pass the Fix NICS legislation through the House as part of a package including national gun-carry reciprocity.

The gun rights group said it would continue to advocate for policies that it believes protect both innocent people and the Second Amendment.

“Doing everything we can as a nation to address the problem of dangerous people committing heinous acts is not inconsistent with the Second Amendment—the systemic failures of government to keep us safe reinforces the need for the Second Amendment,” Baker said. “We will continue to support legislative efforts to make our schools and communities safe and oppose gun control schemes that cannot keep us safe and only punish law-abiding Americans.”

Brutal Murder of Elderly Jewish Woman Hurled Off a Balcony by Screaming Muslim Savage Finally Declared an Anti-Semitic Crime

Brutal Murder of Elderly Jewish Woman Hurled Off a Balcony by Screaming Muslim Savage Finally Declared an Anti-Semitic Crime

Sarah Halimi, well known in the Paris Orthodox community, was brutally beaten and thrown to her death from her third-floor apartment by a ‘’radicalized’’ Muslim neighbor.

TGP contributor Sebastien Wolfe reported on this story last April.

It was the crime that should have shocked France – a quiet Jewish woman mercilessly beaten by a young Muslim neighbor in the middle of the night before being thrown to her death from her Paris apartment. All this to recitations of the Koran and cries of ‘’Allahu Akbar’’ while police waited outside for the arrival of an anti-terrorist unit.

Yet few outside of the Jewish community heard of the crime last year, with essential elements being omitted from mainstream press reports of the horrific attack. Six weeks after the violent death of 66-year-old Sarah Halimi, her family are speaking out.

Holding a press conference on in May 2017, lawyers speaking on their behalf stated their belief that the crime was anti-Semitic in nature and condemned the ‘’silence of the media’’ in the aftermath of the crime.

Nearly a year later French authorities finally admitted the brutal death of Sarah Halimi was an anti-Semitic murder.

The IBTimes reported:

The brutal murder of a Jewish woman in Paris has been declared an “anti-Semitic attack”, following global outcry at French authorities’ refusal to condemn the killing as an anti-Jewish hate crime.

Orthodox Jew Sarah Halimi, 65, was beaten to death by her Franco-Malian neighbour, 27-year-old Kobili Traoré, in April 2017. Neighbours said they heard Traoré shout “Allahu akbar”, Arabic for “God is Great”, before throwing Halimi’s body off a balcony.

“I’ve killed the demon,” he allegedly shouted in Arabic, according to French media…

…On Wednesday (28 February), a French judge ruled that the killing should be categorised as an anti-Semitic hate crime.

Now They Like Him: Nets Tout Trump Siding With Dems on Gun Control

In a nationally televised negotiation with Republican and Democratic leaders at the White House, President Trump appeared to back many liberal gun control proposals much to the delight of the liberal media. During their evening broadcasts ABC, CBS, and NBC touted how the President “stood up to the National Rifle Association” and pushed back against Republicans.

The report on NBC Nightly News was arguably the most vicious against gun rights advocates. “Under pressure after Parkland, President Trump taking on his own party and the National Rifle Association today,” hyped White House correspondent Kristen Welker. “Mr. Trump, at a freewheeling hour-long meeting with a group of bipartisan lawmakers, trying to get something, anything done, appeared to embrace nearly everything he heard in the meeting…

Welker noted that Trump wanted to “confiscating guns from those deemed dangerous,” but slimed folks on the right by insinuating they didn’t care who had weapons, saying: “a move opposed by many conservatives.” She then played a clip of Trump arguing that government should “take the guns first, go through due process second,” but she failed to mention such an act was unconstitutional.

Even taking on red-state Democrat Joe Manchin and Republican Pat Toomey for not including an age limit increase in their background check bill,” Welker reported with glee. And she seemed impressed that Trump “even push[ed] back against fellow Republican Steve Scalise, shot and nearly killed during a baseball practice last summer.

On ABC’s World News Tonight, they seemed ecstatic. “He was sitting with Republicans and Democrats on guns and school safety, saying he supports what many of the Democrats support, universal background checks, among other things, pushed by the students and families in Parkland, Florida,” announced anchor David Muir as he led into the report by Chief White House Correspondent Jon Karl.

Karl was brimming with energy as he was delivering his report, saying, “Before the television cameras at the White House, the most pro-NRA President in history gathered together a group including some of Congress’s most forceful advocates of gun control.” “And sitting in that room, the President repeatedly took positions that put himself at odds with the NRA and Republican leaders in Congress,” he added.

The ABC reporter also boasted about how Trump appeared to opposed Vice President Pence in wanting to “take the guns first, go through due process second.” He too failed to mention the illegality of the move. “The President told the bipartisan group, he wants more than action. He wants bold action. A comprehensive bill on guns and school safety,” he exclaimed.

Meanwhile, on CBS Evening News, Chief Congressional Correspondent Nancy Cordes was the only one to note that what Trump wanted would be “skirting the law.”

But CBS did promote Trump’s apparent gun control push, with anchor Jeff Glor stating: “The President gathered members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans, at the White House today and said, it’s time to end the nonsense and do something about gun violence.” “President Trump scrambled the partisan divide on guns today, siding with Democrats on dramatically expanding background checks and raising the purchasing age for semi-automatic weapons,” Cordes added.

The liberal media are such big anti-gun advocates that they appear to be willing to side with Trump to push their agenda.

Walmart raises the age to purchase guns, ammo to 21

Walmart announced Wednesday that it will raise the age to purchase guns and ammunition to twenty-one. The retailer will also stop selling airsoft guns and toys that look like an AR-15. Here’s the company’s full statement:

In light of recent events, we’ve taken an opportunity to review our policy on firearm sales. Going forward, we are raising the age restriction for purchase of firearms and ammunition to 21 years of age. We will update our processes as quickly as possible to implement this change.

In 2015, Walmart ended sales of modern sporting rifles, including the AR-15. We also do not sell handguns, except in Alaska where we feel we should continue to offer them to our customers. Additionally, we do not sell bump stocks, high-capacity magazines and similar accessories. We have a process to monitor our eCommerce marketplace and ensure our policies are applied.

We take seriously our obligation to be a responsible seller of firearms and go beyond Federal law by requiring customers to pass a background check before purchasing any firearm. The law would allow the sale of a firearm if no response to a background check request has been received within three business days, but our policy prohibits the sale until an approval is given.

We are also removing items from our website resembling assault-style rifles, including nonlethal airsoft guns and toys. Our heritage as a company has always been in serving sportsmen and hunters, and we will continue to do so in a responsible way.

Earlier today, Dick’s Sporting Goods announced it would stop selling any AR-15s and high capacity magazines. The store will also raise the age to purchase guns to twenty-one. Dick’s went considerably beyond that though. A statement released by the company called for a federal ban on “assault-style firearms” and having Congress raise the buying age to twenty-one.

All of this comes on a day when President Trump seems to be joining in on the same push. CNN reported today that, despite a direct appeal from the NRA, Trump “preference” is to raise the purchase age:

National Rifle Association leaders appealed directly to President Donald Trump about not raising the age limit for buying certain firearms, a senior administration official tells CNN.

The appeal came when Trump had lunch with the leaders on Sunday. The official said the NRA would prefer that the White House pursue school safety programs.

The official, however, said that although the White House continues to speak with the NRA, they’re not going to agree on everything…

The official maintained that the President does want to raise the purchasing age of certain firearms to 21 years old. Though there has been “a lot of flux in the way it’s been communicated, the President’s preference is that it’s raised to 21,” according to this official. This person said several times that this is Trump’s “preference.”

As Allahpundit noted earlier, Trump even handed the left a ready-made campaign ad by suggesting anyone who isn’t for raising the purchase age is “afraid of the NRA.” Here’s the clip you’re likely to see a lot later this year:

Finally, Reason takes a look at whether or not it’s legal for Walmart and other stores to stop selling guns to people who are legally adults. Eugene Volokh’s conclusion: It probably is legal in most places but some states (about a third) have laws against age discrimination which could make the decision problematic and subject to legal challenge.

Red Alert: Trump Says Confiscate Guns First, Due Process Later

It’s no secret that we have defended Donald Trump countless times in the past, even when it was in vogue to mock and dismiss him.

The reason for this is simple: Although he is not the world’s strongest conservative, the 45th president seems to understand the core principles that made America great, and in his blunt but effective way, has stood for common sense and against liberal sophistry at many levels — including within the mainstream media.

When President Trump swerves away from those core American views, however, it’s time to call him out… and that is what we must do today.

On Wednesday, Trump held a meeting with key policy makers on the topic of gun violence, and said some words that can only be described as massive red flags for anyone who believes in the Second Amendment and the rule of law.

President Trump… voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights,” reported The Hill.

“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida … to go to court would have taken a long time,” the president declared while discussing gun policy with Vice President Pence and other leaders.

Here is the line that is particularly alarming. “Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump stated.

Should due process be the top priority when guns must be taken?

The problem with these statements is clear: That’s not how due process works. Bypassing the court system because it’s inconvenient is literally the opposite of due process, and opens the door to a slippery slope of abuses that would have no end in sight.

Before we dig further into what the president said, we will raise one caveat. It is possible — although admittedly unlikely — that Trump was talking about policies that already exist, instead of enacting new ones.

For example, police in even conservative-leaning states are already able to temporarily confiscate weapons for officer safety reasons or as part of a domestic violence arrest, according to the Battered Women’s Justice Project and state statutes.

If Trump had these types of incidents in mind when he spoke, there may be room for common ground between him and pro-gun conservatives… but there’s no getting around the fact that his choice of words should alarm even moderate supporters of civil liberties and the rule of law.

Almost everyone agrees that there are some people whose violent actions disqualify them from Second Amendment protections. Even pro-gun conservatives, for instance, usually acknowledge that criminals or the insane don’t have a right to be armed. The question is how to ensure that law-abiding citizens are not treated like those criminals on a whim.

The president’s claim — that going through the court before taking away an American citizen’s guns is too time consuming — is both silly and distressing. Judges throughout the country often issue search warrants in a matter of hours after being presented with evidence of probable cause.

“I’d say roughly a couple hours to get the warrant written up, reviewed, reviewed again, and taken to a judge who will review it some more and sign it if it’s good probable cause,” Paul Harding, a long-serving deputy sheriff, recently explained on Quora.

Other law enforcement experts agreed that around three hours was a typical time for a judge to review and sign a warrant.

“Major felony (Robbery/Homicide) would obtain search warrants primarily for crime scenes to preserve the chain of evidence,” wrote Tim O’Pry, a retired police officer.

“As such the scene was typically already secure, the facts straight forward and the process simple … and would typically take us 2–4hrs once the decision was made, depending on day of week and time of day,” he stated on Quora.

The point here is simple: It just doesn’t actually take very long for a judge to sign off on a home-entry search warrant with due process still being carefully followed the entire time.

It seems almost guaranteed that if America was serious about stopping mass shooters and about respecting due process, a system where evidence of an impending crime could be rapidly shown to a judge or judicial panel and weapons were temporarily seized could all happen in hours.

The fact that Trump believes waiting for a judge is too inconvenient shows either staggering ignorance of the justice system or some kind of agenda. Neither possibility is pleasant.

Imagine if instead of talking about guns, the president was describing police kicking down someone’s door. “Break into people’s homes first; worry about getting a warrant second” would have even liberal ACLU members protesting, but he’s saying essentially the same thing about firearm seizures right now.

Perhaps the biggest elephant in the room is that the same government that Trump wants deciding whose guns get confiscated without messing with pesky due process are also the ones who dropped the ball in the Florida tragedy.

From the federal FBI down to the local sheriff’s deputies, the government failed at every level in Parkland. Yet suddenly we want these same incompetent fools to be the ones determining — single-handedly and with no court involvement, it seems — when the Second Amendment applies and when to ignore it?

Who determines which criteria to use? Nearly everyone agrees that mental illness is part of the mass shooting problem, but who gets to decide where the line is drawn?

An eating disorder can be considered mental illness, as can gender dysphoria or a hundred other conditions. Have we come to a point where somebody questioning their gender can serve in the military but can’t buy a gun for self defense? Even liberals must see the problem here.

There are not simple answers to these questions, which is why checks and balances are important. There’s a reason that we value thoughtful, unbiased judges and a court system that carefully weighs evidence. Preventing people’s rights from being trampled is important, and throwing out the structures that make this possible is both reckless and un-American.

Donald Trump needs to change or clarify his position on this, or risk losing the supporters who have defended him thus far. Liberty-loving voters are watching carefully, and do not take kindly to being betrayed.
