‘The 15:17 to Paris’ Review: Eastwood’s Ode to the Americanism that Makes Everyday Heroes

On the afternoon of August 21, 2015, on a train headed to Paris from Amsterdam, an Islamic terrorist named Ayoub El Khazzan exited a bathroom with a AKM rifle and 300 rounds of ammunition. The first person to try and stop him was Mark Moogalian, a 51-year-old American-born Frenchman, who wrestled the rifle away from El Khazzan but was shot in the back with a pistol Moogalian did not know the terrorist was carrying.

With his rifle and rounds back in his grasp, El Khazzan made his way to the passenger car. It was here that he met up with three Americans, three lifelong friends enjoying a European excursion together: 23-year-old Airman First Class Spencer Stone, 23-year-old Anthony Sadler, and 22-year-old Specialist Alek Skarlatos.

It is the story of the American friends that producer/director Clint Eastwood wants to tell. In fact, the three-time Oscar winner is so interested in these three, he had them play themselves in a $30 million studio film.

The opening scene is a doozy, a sharp stick in the eye of public school tyrants eager to feed drugs to boys as a means to control their behavior, or “to make your job easier,” as Spencer’s mother (Judy Greer) puts it just before Spencer and Alek are placed in a Christian middle school.

The Christian environment does not, however, calm the boys’ behavior, and it is in the principal’s outer-office where they complete their trio with Anthony, a street-wise charmer who proceeds to lead them into even more trouble. Eventually real life intrudes and they go their separate ways. For Alek and Spencer, that means life in the military.

Alek is eventually deployed to Afghanistan while Spencer struggles to find his way in the Air Force.  In the summer of 2015, while they are still young and unencumbered, they decide to get the band back together for a trip through Europe. Near the end of the vacation, they find themselves on the 15:17 to Paris.

The only way I can describe Eastwood’s highly original approach to this story is to call it a populist art film. To begin with, the screenplay, written by Dorothy Blyskal, and based on the book written by our three heroes with Jeffrey E. Stern, primarily focuses on just how American these three guys are.

As kids, Spencer owns an arsenal of toy guns that would make a SJW cry. The boys love to play army, to shoot at each other, to get in trouble. They pray to God and work at the local Jamba Juice. Spencer and Alek are white, Anthony is black, everyone is colorblind. These guys like pretty girls, enjoy some sin in Amsterdam, are unfailingly polite to everyone, and, as young men with so much life in front of them often do, they talk a lot about life’s ultimate purpose while snapping countless selfies.

That is the populist part.

The art film part is Eastwood’s overall approach — which is as close as a narrative movie could ever come to a documentary. Although amateurs, the three key players are surprisingly natural actors. Their dialogue is also natural, which means it avoids the smoothness of moviespeak. You are going to hear a lot of “likes” and “you knows,” just as you do in real life.

Because the central event only lasts a few minutes, there are 80 other minutes to fill, which Eastwood does without dramatics or anything that feels Hollywood. A thing called life just happens to these guys, and it is oddly compelling.

The pace does slow a bit once we arrive in Europe. The travelogue takes up a heavy amount of time and, as they travel from country to country to country, it all starts to feel like you’re being forced to watch someone else’s home movies. But by the time the terrorist shows up, you see Eastwood’s purpose behind this.

By casting three ordinary guys to play their ordinary selves, by showing us their ordinary lives, their ordinary friendship, and their ordinary vacation, it makes that moment when they become extraordinary unspeakably moving; a shock to the senses, a true act of bravery and selflessness (to say the least) made all the more truer because these are not movie heroes.

From the opening attack against bureaucrats and their Ritalin, to watching boys playing in the woods with their toy guns, to the opportunities to become your own man in our military, to the selflessness of the Christian faith, to their proud masculinity, Eastwood is saying one thing above all — that if you will just let American boys be American boys, there is a very good chance they will grow up to be extraordinary men.

‘Guerrilla Warfare’: Gina Miller Slams Soros-Backed Anti-Brexit Group as ‘Undemocratic’

‘Guerrilla Warfare’: Gina Miller Slams Soros-Backed Anti-Brexit Group as Shady and ‘Undemocratic’

The Soros-backed Best for Britain group working to overthrow the government and block Brexit is “undemocratic”, according to founder Gina Miller.

Miller became well-known as an opponent of Brexit after using the Supreme Court to force the Government to seek Parliament’s approval to activate Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty and kick off the Brexit process, which could have seen MPs vote down the will of the people.

However, she has now sought to distance herself from the anti-Brexit group that she co-founded in a strongly worded statement, claiming they are betraying her values of “transparency” after receiving hundreds of thousands from the pro-open borders billionaire George Soros.

The group is working to build a network of powerful allies to undermine the Government before it can implement the Brexit vote, and Miller is insisting the public has the “right to know” who is backing it as it fights the referendum result.

Best for Britain hopes to trigger a second referendum by recruiting MPs to vote down any deal with the EU and stall the Brexit process.

In her statement, Miller slammed the lack of “transparency about key players’ motivations, agendas and activities”, and urged “those keen to play their part in the Brexit debate to be open and honest about what they stand for, whom they represent and by whom they are funded”.

She also claimed not to have been involved in the Soros-backed group since June 2017, but was still describing herself as involved on Twitter and in interviews for most of last year.

Soros’s Open Society Foundations is one of the biggest campaigning groups in the world and the banker frequently interferes in international politics. His involvement in Best for Britain was exposed earlier this week after it was reported that he had given them £400,000 and hosted a meeting between Labour’s Lord Malloch-Brown, two other financiers, and six major Tory donors.

The Hungarian-American speculator, infamous as ‘The Man Who Broke the Bank of England’ for his role in the Black Wednesday crash, has a close relationship with the European Commission and backs many of their mass migration policies.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Ms. Miller added: “When I read the coverage I pulled back and thought this is not where I think this should be going. It was a good decision to part ways.

“[The plot] is undemocratic. One of the objectives cannot be to bring down a Government, not without an election or a referendum.

“This idea of bringing down a Government and guerrilla warfare, I don’t agree with any of that. I’m a transparency campaigner, it doesn’t matter which side of the argument you are on.

“If you are going to have funders who are getting involved in something that could determine Britain’s future then the public has a right to know who is backing it. This is about the future of our country.”

POLICE: Illegal Immigrant Dismembered Man, Stuffed Body In Suitcase

Police in Washington State revealed on Thursday that a man who was arrested in a horrifying murder in one of the state’s sanctuary cities is an illegal alien who was wanted by federal immigration authorities.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials were seeking 37-year-old Rosalio Ramos-Ramos late last year, and nearly apprehended him from a hospital to which police had transferred him before he managed to slip out, Circa News reported.

Timeline of events:

  • Kent Police arrested Ramos-Ramos in October after they got a call about an alleged sexual assault and discovered methamphetamine on him.
  • After arriving at Kent Jail, Ramos-Ramos said he wanted to die and then attacked the corrections staff when they tried to get his fingerprints so they could verify his identity, injuring five.
  • Ramos-Ramos sustained a head injury during the altercation and was transported to an unidentified local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
  • The local hospital transported him to Harborview Medical Center where he was placed in a medically-induced coma because he was acting violently toward the hospital staff.
  • During his stay at Harborview, police learned his identity after ICE contacted them.
  • ICE was not able to arrest Ramos-Ramos in the hospital because it is considered a “sensitive location.”
  • Police said they would keep a close eye on Ramos-Ramos but the hospital reportedly was not very cooperative and was “reluctant” to give them information.
  • Police said they called the hospital and notified them that they were on their way to apprehend Ramos-Ramos when they were told they let him go the night before.
  • On January 10, Ramos-Ramos’ brother called the police and reported that he had a history of “mental illness” and “was upset and throwing things around the apartment.”
  • On January 11, police were called to a nearby apartment after they received a call about an abandoned suitcase which had a dismembered body in it that police identified as Pedro Venegas-Ramos, the suspect’s cousin.

“If the cops that tell you specifically, ‘do not let this guy out until you contact us first,’ and you let him out anyway?” said Rich Richardson, a man who lives in the area and saw the suitcase. “Who’s fault is it? It’s not the cops fault.”

In a statement, Harborview took no responsibility for the incident and said that they had no obligation to cooperate with police over the phone:

When we care for patients who are incarcerated or under the custody of law enforcement, it is the role of the law enforcement agency to guard the patient while they are hospitalized. This particular patient was not under guard when he was released from the medical center last fall after five days of hospitalization. We also follow federal privacy laws that dictate the amount and type of patient medical information that we can release.

According to Kent Police Chief Ken Thomas, Ramos-Ramos “had been deported four times prior, he is a convicted felon and he’s a very violent person.”

All of these events appear to have happened in King County, Washington, which the Center for Immigration Studies lists as an official sanctuary county, meaning that law enforcement officials are not allowed to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

Supreme Court case could decide government’s ability to access emails

A digital privacy case against Microsoft is expected to come before the Supreme Court this month, and it could renew concerns about how the government uses tech giants to fuel its world-wide spying efforts, Yahoo Finance reported.

At issue is whether the U.S. government can demand customer emails from tech companies, even when the emails are stored on foreign servers. Congress is also interested in the topic, and a group of bipartisan lawmakers this week introduced legislation to clarify the government’s ability to demand “cross-border data searches.”

If the proposed legislation passes, the Microsoft case won’t matter, the report noted. But if the legislation does not pass, the Supreme Court will tackle the complex and touchy topic.

Matthew Tokson, an, associate professor at University of Utah’s College of Law and an expert on digital privacy, told Yahoo: “Foreign countries may be troubled by the idea that U.S. law enforcement can search the files of any company with a U.S. office, even if those files are located overseas.”

“This is especially sensitive territory,” he added, “because U.S. surveillance of foreigners for national security purposes has already caused foreign countries to be wary of U.S.-based tech companies, hurting U.S. businesses.”

Jennifer Daskal of American University’s Washington College of Law also weighed in on the issue, citing the “ongoing concern about the scope of U.S. surveillance.”

What laws already exist?

Outdated laws — namely, the Stored Communications Act — are currently used to justify warrants that force tech companies to give the government electronic communications.

For example, the law was used to justify a 2013 warrant that demanded Microsoft give the government the contents of an email account reportedly used for drug trafficking. The emails in question were store in Ireland, so Microsoft refused, according to Yahoo news. Microsoft argued in a Supreme Court brief that there was no indication the customer “is a citizen or resident of the United States.”

A district court found Microsoft in contempt for refusing the government’s request. But a circuit court later sided with Microsoft, “on the grounds that the law doesn’t specify that its warrant provisions can be applied overseas,” Yahoo reported.

Government intelligence and police agencies defend the practice, saying it can deter serious crimes such as terrorist attacks, child pornography, drug trafficking and fraud.

Privacy advocates and whistleblowers, however, say it represents a gross violation of privacy protections provided by the Fourth Amendment.

What affect has Edward Snowden had?

Back in 2013, former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden publicly revealed documents showing the vast surveillance scope of the U.S. government. Through the documents, tech companies were shown to be facilitating the NSA’s spying efforts. Snowden’s information supported that of previous NSA whistleblowers who sounded alarms about the government’s mass surveillance efforts. All of them have warned that the government’s spying programs also collect vast amounts of data from average citizens.

Democrat Tim Canova: FBI Would Rather Chase ‘Russian Phantoms’ Than Wasserman Schultz’ Stolen Congressional Election

Democrat Tim Canova: FBI Would Rather Chase ‘Russian Phantoms’ Than Wasserman Schultz’ Stolen Congressional Election

The election supervisor in Broward County likely broke the law when they destroyed paper ballots in the midst of a lawsuit filed by Tim Canova, who challenged Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in 2016.

Though many experts agree that the ballot destruction was a felony, Canova believes that the FBI is too busy chasing “Russian phantoms” to investigate election meddling right here at home.

Canova was seeking to have the optical-scan ballots inspected following the primary race and filed a lawsuit last June against Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes.

“We have a civil lawsuit against the Broward Supervisor of Elections which we should win and the court should award us attorneys fees. At that point the governor should fire the Supervisor and hopefully replace with someone who has integrity and presumably not part of the Wasserman Schultz machine,” Canova told the Gateway Pundit.

According to federal law, the congressional race ballots were not supposed to be destroyed for 22 months, and state law declares that ballots which are evidence in a court case should not be destroyed without a judge’s order, Politico reported in December.

Snipes, a Democrat, had her office destroy the ballots in September, months after the lawsuit was filed. The office claimed that they did not commit a felony by destroying the ballots because they kept digital scans. Canova, who is a a Nova Southeastern University law professor, contends that they still broke the law because electronic copies can be tampered with. His belief has backed up by multiple experts on election laws.

“You’re not supposed to destroy these ballots within 22 months,” Canova’s lawyer attorney, Leonard Collins told Politico last year. “They did. You can’t destroy public records in an ongoing court case. They did,” he said. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Collins has filed a motion for sanctions due to the “spoliation” of evidence.

The office of Governor Rick Scott has stated that the destruction is “unacceptable.”

“The bottom line is it appears her office destroyed ballots — which is unacceptable. We will continue to push for answers,” McKinley Lewis, deputy communications director for the Republican governor, said in a statement to Politico in January.

Canova is now attempting to have an investigation opened which could potentially nullify the election that he believes was stolen.

“We’re trying to get the FBI to investigate but they seem uninterested at this point even through the ballot destruction violated federal law punishable by prison. I guess they’d rather chase Russian phantoms,” Canova told GWP. “Congress could investigate and the House could possibly nullify the stolen election, but I would not hold my breath waiting for that to happen.”

Meanwhile, Canova is challenging Wasserman-Schultz again, though he admits it is a difficult task to take on a creature of the swamp with his grassroots campaign and small donors. “Wasserman is swimming in predatory corporate money,” Canova noted.

Canova, a progressive, has not ruled out running as an Independent. “I don’t see things as right vs. left, rather it’s integrity vs. corruption,” he told the Gateway Pundit.

During the primary, he had gained support from Senator Bernie Sanders and his populist supporters.

“Well, clearly, I favor her opponent,” Sanders told CNN’s Jake Tapper in May, 2016. “His views are much closer to mine than as to Wasserman Schultz’s.”

More information about Canova’s efforts can be found on his website.

The Times of Israel reported: Israel will continue to defend itself, including by acting against Iranian efforts to entrench itself militarily in Syria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday evening, at the end of a day that saw a dramatic escalation in Iranian-Israeli hostilities on Israel’s northern border, including the apparent downing of an Israeli fighter jet.

Watch Netanyahu’s video statement here:

The Times of Israel added:

“Israel wants peace but we will continue to defend ourselves with determination against any attack on us and against any attempt by Iran to entrench itself militarily in Syria or anywhere else,” Netanyahu said in a filmed statement from the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv, adding that Israel “holds Iran and its Syrian hosts responsible for today’s aggression.”

Netanyahu also said that he spoke with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, noting that Israeli-Russian military coordination vis-a-vis Syria will continue.

Left-Wingers OUTRAGED Britain Won’t Imperialistically Impose Gay Marriage Laws on Bermuda

Left-Wingers OUTRAGED Britain Won’t Imperialistically Impose Gay Marriage Laws on Bermuda

Britain’s Labour Party is demanding the UK government impose an imperialistic diktat upon the predominantly black citizens of Bermuda for refusing to adhere to the liberal-left’s same-sex marriage demands.

Helen Goodman — Labour’s shadow Foreign Office minister — said the devolved, democratic decision taken by Bermuda to repeal gay marriage laws — “turns same-sex couples into second class citizens”, implying force should be used to impose gay marriage laws.

“For that to happen anyone in the world would be shameful. For it to happen in a British territory, for the legislation signed by a British governor and permitted by a British foreign secretary makes us complicit in something which this House has repeatedly voted against,” she argued.

Apparently imperialism is fine, but only in the pursuit of leftist goals like those of the LGBTQII++ lobby, in a mostly Christian nation.

The British government called Bermuda’s decision “disappointing” but resisted getting involved despite the island’s status as a British Overseas Territory. It’s almost as if the Brits retain some knowledge about holding together an empire. If Bermuda were in the European Union, there’d have probably been some kind of sanctions, or perhaps a gay-migrant quota by now.

Renowned mastermind (click it) David Lammy MP somehow managed to invoke slavery into his pro-imperialist arguments:

“The first slaves we brought to Bermuda in 1620, oppressed, segregated, discriminated against… And that is why leaders like Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and Barack Obama have not just fought for race rights, but they have fought for rights of lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

“This country has been one of the world  leaders on this subject – so if this is not the issue on which to refuse assent I don’t know which is.”

The Green Party’s Caroline Lucas called it an “absolute scandal” that Britain was not willing to enforce LGBT ideals on another nation.

The rights of gay couples remain the same as those of straight married couples in Bermuda, but only the verbiage applied to each type of partnership is different.

In 2016, over 60 per cent of Bermudans rejected both same sex marriages and same sex civil unions in a plebiscite held on the same day as Britain’s Brexit referendum. The votes were not binding as they did not pass the 50 per cent turnout threshold. Nevertheless the government sought to compromise on the matter, protecting LGBT rights and attempting to respect the will of the people vis a vis marriage as an institution.

The new rules — to add further irony — were drafted and passed by the Progressive Labour Party government in Bermuda, a nation of just over 60,000 people.

Walton Brown, Bermuda’s Minister of Home Affairs, said this week he was pleased with the decision as Governor John Rankin signed it into law.

Here’s the icing on the forcibly-baked-by-threat-of-imprisonment-same-sex marriage cake: Rankin is a 30+ year career diplomat from the British government, propelled into high office by Prime Minister Tony Blair’s government in 2003 when he became Britain’s Consul-General in Boston. He has since served in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Nepal, and now in Bermuda.

Trump: Democrats Knew Their Memo Would Have to Be Redacted, Wanted to ‘Blame the White House for Lack of Transparency’

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Saturday accused the Democrats of playing politics with classified information, asserting that their memo countering GOP allegations about the conduct of the FBI’s Russia probe was a trap meant to “blame the White House for lack of transparency.”

Citing national security concerns, the White House notified the House Intelligence Committee on Friday that the president was “unable” to declassify the Democratic memo. White House counsel Don McGahn said in a letter to the committee that the memo contains “numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages” and asked the committee to revise it with the help of the Justice Department.

He said Trump was still “inclined” to release the memo in the interest of transparency if revisions are made.

Trump weighed in with a tweet on Saturday.

“The Democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew, because of sources and methods (and more), would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the White House for lack of transparency,” he tweeted. The meaning of the “(and more)” was not immediately clear.

Trump urged the Democrats to “re-do and send back in proper form!”

The president’s rejection of the Democratic memo was in contrast to his enthusiastic embrace of releasing the Republican document, which accuses the FBI and Justice Department of abusing their surveillance powers in obtaining a secret warrant to monitor former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page.

Even before reading the GOP document, Trump pledged to make it public. It was published in full a week ago over the objections of the Justice Department.

The Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat, California Rep. Adam Schiff, criticized Trump for treating the two documents differently, saying the president is now seeking revisions by the same committee that produced the original Republican memo. Still, Schiff said, Democrats “look forward to conferring with the agencies to determine how we can properly inform the American people about the misleading attack on law enforcement by the GOP.”

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California said the move is “part of a dangerous and desperate pattern of cover-up on the part of the president.” California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has read the classified information both memos are based on. She tweeted that Trump’s blocking the memo is “hypocrisy at its worst.”

The head of the House committee, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., who produced the GOP memo, encouraged Democrats to accept the Justice Department’s recommendations and “make the appropriate technical changes and redactions.”

Trump has said the GOP memo “vindicates” him in the ongoing Russia investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller. But Democrats and Republicans, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., who helped draft the GOP memo, have said it shouldn’t be used to undermine the special counsel.

The House Intelligence Committee voted Monday to release the Democratic memo. Republicans backed the release, but several said they thought it should be redacted. Ryan also said he thought the Democratic document should be released.

In declining to declassify the document, the White House also sent lawmakers a letter signed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray, as well as a marked-up copy of the memo, laying out portions it considers too sensitive to make public. Among those passages are some that the Justice Departments says could compromise intelligence sources and methods, ongoing investigations and national security if disclosed.

The White House message caps off a week in which Republicans and Democrats on the committee have publicly fought, with the panel now erecting a wall to separate feuding Republican and Democratic staffers who had long sat side by side.

The disagreements have escalated over the last year as Democrats have charged that Republicans aren’t taking the panel’s investigation into Russian election meddling seriously enough. They say the GOP memo is designed as a distraction from the probe, which is looking into whether Trump’s campaign was in any way connected to the Russian interference.

Trump declassified the GOP-authored memo over the objections of the FBI, which said it had “grave concerns” about the document’s accuracy.

In the Nunes’ memo, Republicans took aim at the FBI and the Justice Department over the use of information from former British spy Christopher Steele in obtaining a warrant to monitor Page under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA. The main allegation was that the FBI and Justice Department didn’t tell the court enough about Steele’s anti-Trump bias or that his work was funded in part by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

They argued that the reliance on Steele’s material amounted to an improper politicization of the government’s surveillance powers.

Democrats have countered that the GOP memo was inaccurate and a misleading collection of “cherry-picked” details.

They noted that federal law enforcement officials had informed the court about the political origins of Steele’s work and that some of the former spy’s information was corroborated by the FBI. They also noted that there was other evidence presented to the court besides Steele’s information, though they have not provided details.

The Democratic memo is believed to elaborate on these points.

Watch: Israeli Helicopter Destroys Iranian Done that Penetrated Jewish State

TEL AVIV — On Saturday, an Apache helicopter operated by the Israeli Air Force successfully intercepted and destroyed Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that took off from Syrian territory and infiltrated Israel.

Watch Israel Defense Forces (IDF) footage of the Iranian drone being intercepted below:

The IDF released the following statement about today’s operations:

The aircraft was identified by the Aerial Defense Systems early on and was under surveillance until the interception. In response, IDF attacked the Iranian aircraft’s launch components in Syrian territory.

Later, also in response to the Iranian UAV that was launched at Israeli territory and was intercepted by the IDF, Israeli Air Force (IAF) aircraft targeted 12 targets in Syria, including three aerial defense batteries and four Iranian targets that are part of Iran’s military establishment in Syria.

During the attack, multiple anti-aircraft missiles were fired at IAF aircraft. The two pilots of an F-16 jet ejected from the aircraft as per procedure, one of whom was seriously injured and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, chief of the IDF’s international media desk, stated, “The Syrians and the Iranians, from our point of view, are playing with fire. The Syrians are playing with fire when they allow the Iranians to attack Israel from their soil. We are willing, prepared, and capable to exact a heavy price on anyone that attacks us. However, we are not looking to escalate the situation.”

A general statement from the IDF added that Israel will “continue to act against any attempt to infiltrate Israeli airspace and will act with determination to prevent any breach of Israeli sovereignty.”

MANHUNT: DACA Recipient Wanted For Murder In Texas

On Friday, authorities in Texas revealed that a man they believe is responsible for the murder of a good Samaritan who attempted to help another victim shot by the suspect is an illegal immigrant who is in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Authorities say that Judas Deluna, 21, shot and killed a man outside DJ’s Food Mart in Harris County on January 26 after the man came to the aid of another man that they say Deluna also shot. ABC 13 reports:

Investigators believe Deluna got into a fight with a man in the parking lot and retrieved a gun from his vehicle. He then returned to shoot him. Rupani, whose father owns the store, was inside. He came to the shooting victim’s aid and was shot, too. Rupani had two young children and a wife.

Deluna, who has managed to evade capture for three weeks, is an illegal immigrant who received protection from deportation as a DACA recipient, an Obama-era program that former-President Obama admitted was unconstitutional.

“This is not a depiction of who Dreamers are, who DACA holders are,” Cesar Espinosa, an immigrant rights activist said as he tried to downplay crimes committed by DREAMers and DACA recipients.

Deluna, however, comes from a family of illegal immigrants who have been convicted of violent crimes in the U.S., as ABC notes:

Nearing deportation, again, is where Deluna’s father, Manuel Deluna, is. He is on “hold’ status with Immigration and Customs Enforcement since his release from prison last October.

According to Robert Hurst with Texas Department of Criminal Justice, he served four months of a two-year sentence stemming from a SWAT standoff in November 2016. He barricaded himself after assaulting his wife and daughter.

Five years earlier, Manuel Deluna’s other son, Eric Deluna, planned an ambush on an 18-wheeler full of drugs. It was part of a notorious federal sting that went bad aimed at the Los Zetas cartel. A federal informant died in a shootout that also left a Harris county sheriff’s deputy wounded.

Eric Deluna is serving a 30-year sentence.

The Daily Wire reported on Thursday that four federal authorities arrested four DACA recipients, all in separate incidents, within the span of a week for their involvement in human smuggling.
