WALSH: Kids Aren’t Suffering From ‘Video Game Addiction.’ They’re Suffering From A Lack Of Parenting.

Parents in Canada have filed a class action lawsuit against Epic Games, the company that made the popular video game Fortnite. The distraught plaintiffs accuse the devious minds behind Fortnite of intentionally creating it to be “as addictive as possible.” This addiction has destroyed their children’s lives, they say.

The lawsuit says that one of the supposedly addicted children has played around 1,800 Fortnite matches in seven months, while the other has logged about 7,000 matches and often stays up playing until the early morning hours. Google tells me that a Fortnite match typically takes about 20 minutes. If this is a good estimate, then these children have spent 600 hours and more than 2,000 hours, respectively, playing the game.

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the alleged scourge of video game addiction. Just this week it was announced that children in the UK will receive treatment for their addictions through the National Health Service. Kids who suffer from this affliction can meet with psychologists and psychiatrists at the newly minted Centre for Internet and Gaming Disorders. Kids in our country, too, seem to be coming down with this mysterious disorder at an alarming rate. Fortnite, according to Bloomberg News, is even “forcing kids into video game rehab.”

Most kids hopefully aren’t putting 2,000 hours a year into their video game habit — excuse me, “addiction” — but they are averaging over two hours a day, according to some studies. That’s a significant chunk of time when you consider that it is just an average — many kids are playing for significantly more time than that — and it doesn’t include all of the other time spent on other forms of media. But does it justify treating video games as an addiction? And who exactly should we be blaming for the problem? Are video game companies guilty of using some sort of voodoo to hypnotize kids and compel them to keep playing, or is there a more mundane and localized explanation?

On the first question, as professors of psychology Christopher J. Ferguson and Patrick Markey pointed out in a recent op-ed, video games are not “in any meaningful sense” addictive. Yes, the pleasure of playing video games involves the same areas of the brain that drug use activates, but the same can be said for just about every enjoyable activity. If this simple neurological fact justifies the comparison between Fortnite and cocaine (a comparison made in the Fortnite lawsuit), then you could also argue that reading a book is tantamount to using heroine and going for a jog is like smoking crystal meth. The only similarity between these activities is that the person doing them enjoys them, and they all involve, therefore,  the part of your brain that facilitates the enjoyment of things.

The op-ed cites a study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry which finds, at most, 1% of gamers who “might qualify for a potential acute diagnosis of Internet gaming disorder” (emphasis mine). But even this 1% figure is dubious. People who play video games — even people who spend way, way too much time playing them —  are not chemically dependent on the games the way that a heroin addict is dependent. Video games also don’t, in and of themselves, cause physical damage to the player. Sure, if you sit around all day playing games, you’ll get fat. But you’ll get fat if you sit around all day doing anything. On the other hand, if you sit around all day drinking alcohol, you might die directly from the effect the alcohol has on your internal organs.

What does this all mean? It means that a word like “addiction” is out of place when discussing video games. The compulsion to pick up a video game controller obviously belongs in a different category from the compulsion to pick up a crack pipe. They are not the same kind of thing, and they do not warrant the same kind of label or the same kind of treatment. By slapping “addiction” onto every bad habit, we are medicalizing normal and controllable human behaviors. Suddenly we have turned a lazy kid who just needs to get out of the house into a psychiatric patient who needs medication. In so doing, we have removed all of the power and control from his, and his parent’s, hands.

Speaking of parents, I think we have just answered the second question posed above. Who is to blame for all of this supposed video game addiction? Well, I’ll put it this way: 10-year-old children aren’t going out and buying their own games. They aren’t buying their own TVs, phones, and computers, either. If a child is playing games for several hours a day, it is because his parents have chosen to invest a considerable amount of money into fueling the hobby. So, why is your kid playing video games so much? Let us solve the mystery: it is because you are allowing and funding it.

I will never understand these parents who sit around with perplexed looks trying to figure out how to stop their kids from playing video games. The “how” is not difficult or complicated. Set boundaries. Tell them they are only allowed to play for a fixed amount of time during an appointed time frame. What if they disobey? Well then, take the games and drop them off at Goodwill. Or throw them in the fireplace. Or smash them with a hammer. Have some fun with it. They’re your video games, after all. You bought them. You can do what you want with them. And if you want to hand them over to your kid so that he can play them for six hours a day, barely stopping to bathe or eat and rarely leaving the house, that’s your choice. And your fault. Your child isn’t suffering from addiction. He’s suffering from a lack of parenting.

Planned Parenthood to Spend $45M to Beat Trump, Flip Senate

Planned Parenthood announced Monday it expects to spend $45 million or more during the 2020 election season, with the goal of winning the White House and snatching the Senate from Republicans.

“The stakes are higher than ever, and we’re coming out more powerfully than ever with the largest investment we’ve ever made,” Kelley Robinson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes, told the Hill.

The effort is expected to be focused in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The nation’s largest abortion business plans to tell voters Republicans have led a “coordinated attack” in state legislatures to curb access to abortion with the goal of overturning Roe v. Wade at the U.S. Supreme Court.

“To all the politicians working to take away our rights and undermine access to health care — you’ve been warned,” Robinson said. “We have steadily been building our power over the last decade and we are ready to set the table on our terms. We are fired up, we are engaged, and we are going to win.”

Planned Parenthood Action Fund also boasted in a press release, “Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations are an elections powerhouse,” and added:

Together, we elected the most pro-choice, pro-reproductive health House of Representatives ever. Together, we helped to put reproductive health champions in control of multiple state legislatures where they can protect our rights and our access to care. We show up and we show out to ensure that all people — no matter how much money they make, where they live, their sexual orientation, etc. — have access to the full range of comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare, including abortion, no matter what.

“We know we can win,” Planned Parenthood said. “Public opinion is on our side.”

Lila Rose, president of pro-life organization Live Action, said Planned Parenthood’s announcement of its intention to spend $45 million to help get pro-abortion politicians elected is yet another sign of its “ruthless prioritization of politics and their bottom line over women’s health care.”

Rose continued:

The nation’s largest abortion chain – which ends the lives of 921 preborn children per day, committing over 300,000 abortions per year – receives about half a billion dollars from tax payers every year thanks to pro-abortion politician. Americans shouldn’t be forced to fund a pro-abortion political advocacy group which has chosen to spend tens of millions to secure its government revenue streams while destroying human lives.

Planned Parenthood continues to assert, “This election will determine our access to birth control,” though women are purchasing birth control at many drugstores and supermarkets.

The organization described President Donald Trump as someone “who is determined to crush our reproductive rights.”

The group said it plans to work heavily to mobilize young black, Hispanic, and LGBTQ voters.

Planned Parenthood recently opted out of the federal Title X family planning funding when the Trump administration decided to enforce the rule that recipients of funds from the program cannot perform or refer for abortions. About $60 million in funding that had been granted to Planned Parenthood through Title X in the past was then redirected to comprehensive healthcare providers that do not perform abortions.

Nevertheless, Planned Parenthood still receives over $500 million annually in taxpayer funding through Medicaid reimbursements.

KNOWLES: Trump Baits The Media On Ukraine. They Fall For It.

On Tuesday’s episode of “The Michael Knowles Show,” Knowles talks about how President Trump doubles down and trolls the press with his remarks on Ukraine and China. Video and partial transcript below:

But then President Trump himself, a unique character in American politics, decides he’s not going to stay quiet; he’s not going to defend himself; he’s going to double down. And so here is President Trump’s response on colluding with foreign governments over the question of the Bidens’ corruption.

TRUMP: Well, I would think that if they were honest about it they would start a major investigation into the Bidens. It’s a very simple answer. They should investigate the Bidens, because how does a company that’s newly formed, and all these companies, if you look at by the way, likewise, China should start an investigation into the Bidens because what happened to China is just about as bad as what happened with Ukraine. So I would say that President Zelensky, if it were me, I would recommend that they start an investigation into the Bidens.

TRUMP: Because nobody has any doubt that they weren’t crooked that was a crooked deal a hundred percent. He had no knowledge of energy, didn’t know the first thing about it. All of a sudden he’s getting fifty thousand dollars a month plus a lot of other things. Nobody has any doubt. And they got rid of a prosecutor — who was a very tough prosecutor — they got rid of him. Now they’re trying to make it the opposite way, but they got it. So if I were the president, I would certainly recommend that of Ukraine.

Absolutely the perfect response to this. I guess it gets back to our point: sometimes the wrong decision is better than indecision. I don’t think this is the wrong decision. I think it’s perfectly defensible to tell Ukraine to look into corruption and their own interference in the 2016 election, and I think it’s perfectly right for President Trump to double down on that. Because what’s he going to do? He could apologize and explain himself to the press that’s not going to get him anywhere, and there’s no reason for him to do it. He doesn’t owe those people one word of explanation.

So, what he does is he goes out there, and he makes a joke. And even Marco Rubio, who is obviously no particular fan of the president, Marco Rubio was asked about this response from Trump and he just explains to the press — not President Trump’s remarks — he explains to the press how stupid the press is.

REPORTER: You think it’s okay for President Trump to ask China to launch an investigation of Joe Biden and Hunter Biden?

RUBIO: I don’t know if that’s a real request or him just needling the press knowing that you guys are going to get outraged by it. He’s pretty good at getting everybody fired up, and he’s been doing that for a while and the media responded. Right on right on right on task.

REPORTER: You’re one of the loudest critics of China and its human rights abuses. I mean is it okay to ask him to say that?

REPORTER: I don’t think it’s a real request, I think he did it to get you guys. I think he did it to provoke you to ask me and others and get outraged by it. I said, I mean, he plays it like a violin and everyone falls right into it. That’s not a real request.

Of course. I mean, this is now Senator Marco Rubio not acting like a senator — he’s acting like he’s a panelist on Special Report. He’s acting like a political analyst and he’s saying, You idiots!

If President Trump were going to use the weight of the federal government to leverage all of that and get a foreign power and an adversarial power like China to investigate his political opponents, if he were really doing that, he’d probably pick up the phone. If you were really doing that, maybe you wouldn’t pick up the phone, he’d get some back channel-spy to go in and ask and they would basically do it like Obama did it, like Obama and Hillary and the Democrats did it. But that’s not what Trump is doing. He’s forcing the press, and manipulating the press, to expose their own hypocrisy.

Jon Voight: Democrat Party ‘Doesn’t Represent America Anymore’

Legendary Hollywood actor Jon Voight ripped the Democrat Party in an interview published Wednesday, saying its lawmakers no longer represent the interests of the United States and the American people.

“I’m a big supporter of our president, and I feel that what has happened with the Democratic party is something that I’d never thought I’d see happen,” Voight, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, told The Hollywood Reporter.

“This is not the Democratic party of John Kennedy, who I was in support of,” added the Deliverance star.

Voight went on to say the Democrat Party was once home to “many heroes,” but no longer have any in its ranks today and decried what he called “slander and name-calling and lying” by its lawmakers.

“Somebody has to stand up and say that and punch back at that nonsense. This is not America. The Democratic party doesn’t represent America anymore,” the Academy Award-winner told the entertainment magazine.

Further, Voight condemned Hollywood leftists for attacking “anybody who is for Trump or who is for the Republican party.”

“The Democratic party has been undermined and overtaken, and I wish it could recoup itself and that there could be people who would stand up for the Democratic party that we have known and we have counted on and there are not anybody in that group who is standing up and protecting it. They are falling in,” he said.

Voight also predicted President Trump will win back the White House in 2020 irrespective of the House Democrats’ formal impeachment inquiry, who he previously branded a “war against truths.”

“Donald Trump is going to win the presidency once again and this is going to be proven to be nonsense just as the two years with [the Mueller Report] and millions of dollars wasted and has taken those people in the House who are Democrats away from doing the business of the people,” he stated.

Disease Called ‘Our Generation’s Polio’ Stumps Doctors as Cases Rise

Scientists are baffled by a new disease that some are comparing to polio.

First discovered in 2012, acute flaccid myelitis has spiked in the number of cases, spreading slowly across the United States.

“This is our generation’s polio,” the mother of one of the disease’s victims said, according to Time.

The disease causes sudden and severe inflammation in the spinal tissue of those affected, resulting in paralysis in the neck, face and diaphragm as well as the limbs of those suffering from AFM.

Many doctors and scientists alike agree that the disease resembles polio and is somewhat similar to meningitis and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

TRENDING: Resolution To Expel Nancy Pelosi from Congress Introduced Pursuant to Article 1, Section 5 of the US Constitution

The disease still remains fairly rare, with only a single person affected in a million in most years. However, in the past seven years, it has been affecting and killing more people.

AFM is classified as a seasonal disease similar to polio, although unlike polio it usually hits during the late summer and early fall. Another odd occurrence for the disease is that it peaks during even-numbered years.

In 2014, there were 120 confirmed cases of AFM, while in 2015 there were only 22. The pattern showed itself in 2016 when 153 cases of the mystery disease were documented, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The next odd-numbered year showed a similar falling pattern as 2015, with only 37 cases confirmed in 2017. And sticking with the pattern, 2018 showed to be the highest year for the disease yet, with 236 confirmed cases.

Do you think we should be worried about this disease?

“I can’t think of a single disease that had this pattern that we’re seeing, with modern laboratory diagnostics not figuring it out,” said Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.

Similar to the medical call to arms in the 1930’s through 50’s for polio, the CDC has formed a task force to help eradicate AFM.

The team consists of 17 neurologists, pediatricians and epidemiologists, as well as other medical experts from health departments and teaching hospitals from 10 states, with help also coming from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

The task force’s first meeting occurred in December 2018, when doctors and scientists filled a conference table to the brim in hopes of taking down the deadly disease.

“This is obviously complicated or we wouldn’t be in this place,” Messonnier acknowledged.

RELATED: Bernie Sanders Undergoes Heart Surgery After Incident at Campaign Event

One of the reasons that fighting AFM has become such a desperate endeavor is that the median age for the victims of the disease has steadily dropped from seven to four and a half.

And unlike other regular child diseases like chickenpox and measles, which can be found in the bloodstream, AFM may incubate in the gut.

While the CDC is attempting to stop the outbreak before it ever reaches a peak, scientists and doctors continue to be baffled by the disease and no major progress has been made.

Damning Transcript of Bill Clinton Call Shows He Asked for Tony Blair’s Help To Influence Election

Democrats convinced they’ve got the goods on the man in the White House really need to look at their own history first.

As an “impeachment inquiry” gathers steam, based largely around the accusation that President Donald Trump used his position in the Oval Office to try to influence the outcome of an upcoming election, Fox News host Tucker Carlson hit the airwaves this week with documentary proof of former President Bill Clinton doing that very thing.

And his terms were far more explicit, and more politically self-serving, than anything Trump actually said.

On Monday’s broadcast of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Carlson dredged up a White House transcript of a telephone call between Clinton and then British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

In the conversation from February 2000, Clinton sought Blair’s help in resolving a commercial dispute between British Airways and two American carriers, USAir and American Airlines.

TRENDING: Resolution To Expel Nancy Pelosi from Congress Introduced Pursuant to Article 1, Section 5 of the US Constitution

That was an election year in the United States, of course, when Americans would be going to the polls in nine months to select Clinton’s successor in the presidency.

Clinton obviously did not want to make the election more difficult than it had to be for then-Vice President Al Gore, who was to win the Democratic nomination after crushing former Sen. Bill Bradley in a perfunctory primary fight.

“Back in 2000, President Bill Clinton had a conversation with Tony Blair of the U.K. and asked him directly to intercede in a dispute between British Airways and two carriers,” Carlson said. “The president, at the time, was much more direct than President Trump was in his conversation.

“This is Bill Clinton, and I’m quoting: ‘In a political season, it would be big over here to get this open sore resolved. If you could have somebody take a look at it.’ Tony Blair responded that he would.”

Now, as Carlson pointed out, this set-up is more or less what Democrats are caterwauling about: An American president, speaking to the leader of a foreign country, asks for assistance.

In neither the Clinton case nor Trump’s now-famous phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky did the American president promise anything in return.

But there was a crucial difference. Clinton’s favor was sought expressly for a domestic political purpose:

“In a political season, it would be big over here to get this open sore resolved. If you could have somebody take a look at it,” he said.

RELATED: Trump Digs Up Footage of Biden, Pelosi, Nadler, Schumer Condemning Impeachment

There’s no denying Trump’s conversation with Zelensky could have redounded to his benefit at some point, but his first request for help referred to a campaign that was already past — the 2016 presidential election, and the role that might have been played by operatives in Ukraine.

Do you think Democrats will succeed in impeaching Trump in the House of Representatives?

0% (0 Votes)

0% (0 Votes)

His second request, referring to former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden could be taken politically, but there’s also no denying that there was more than a hint of corruption surrounding the activities of both Bidens in Ukraine (one benefitting from a $50,000-a-month job without any discernible qualifications, the other using his position to protect the company that provided that largesse.)

In other words, what Carlson demonstrated on Monday night’s broadcast was that it’s far from unheard-of for presidential conversations with world leaders to include some sort of informal requests for assistance. (Given that there are human beings involved, it would be astonishing if they didn’t.)

More damning to the Democratic argument against Trump, though, is that what the Clinton conversation showed was a president flexing the muscles of the Oval Office deliberately to help his party win an upcoming election.

What Trump’s conversation showed — outside of the fever dreams of Rep. Adam Schiff and his twisted ilk — is a president seeking assistance for an investigation surrounding an election almost three years in the past. And for a thorough investigation of corruption allegations surrounding a potential future opponent.

Democrats to this day defend Clinton, who faced an impeachment trial that was richly deserved, but they’re hellbent on impeaching Trump for a conversation that was utterly routine.

As Carlson pointed out, there’s virtually nothing truly “unprecedented” in Washington.

“Whenever they’re telling you something is without precedent, you can be certain, it happens every day here,” he said. (He probably was not referring to some of the seamier sides of the Clinton’s Oval Office days.)

But what never fails to surprise is how hypocritical Democrats are in their application of standards. As Carlson noted, Clinton’s conversation was likely one of countless similar exchanges with foreign leaders.

Before screaming for Trump’s impeachment, Democrats would have been wise to look at their own history first.

Corrupt UN officials helped fake refugees from Kenya resettle in America

CNN has a pretty remarkable story up today that reveals something everyone involved would rather remain a secret. For decades, people from Kenya have posed as Somalian refugees to take advantage of resettlement opportunities in the US and elsewhere. And CNN reports that middlemen collect large sums of money in order to bribe UN officials to make sure their clients have the best chance of being relocated.

For decades, the chaos in Kenya’s troubled neighbor, Somalia, pushed wave after wave of refugees across the border. They came in buses, on donkeys, and sometimes by foot.

But as the number of people moving to what was once the world’s largest refugee camp in Dadaab, Kenya swelled from thousands, to tens of thousands, to hundreds of thousands — there were many who registered as refugees who didn’t qualify…

All told, there are at least 40,000 Kenyans registered as refugees in the Dadaab camps alone, according to both UNHCR and government numbers, in what officials euphemistically term “double registration.”…

A UN spokesman told CNN, “I am not aware of any Kenyans being resettled as refugees.” Similarly, a spokesman for the US State Department says it has a “zero tolerance” policy for such fraud. However, CNN identified several “Somali” refugees who are actually Kenyan and even quotes one anonymous individual who admits his father faked their identities in the 1990s to gain resettlement in the United States.

A “facilitator” who gets paid between $10,000 and $20,000 for every client he can help get resettled abroad, claims he has bribed corrupt UN officials for years to make sure his clients get approved.

“It is at the very beginning of the process — before the applicant even gets to the US embassy vetting, the selection has been done at the UN level,” said one facilitator who said he has been exploiting corruption within the UN to game the resettlement system for years…

“The UN will know the criteria and make sure the paying clients match all the requirements. So, it can be cooked at the UN level,” he said…

“Before the Trump ban it was a booming business,” he said. His business is now focused on other countries, where refugee resettlement quotas are higher. He said his last case was just a few months ago.

The story quotes a UN official who compares resettlement to “winning the lottery.” That seems like an apt comparison, not just in Kenya but in Central America where we’ve seen hundreds of thousands of people make a long journey to the US border, often with children, for a chance to claim asylum. Most of those people are coming for the same reason as the Kenyans pretending to be Somalian, i.e. they want a better life. And if all they have to do to get it is lie a bit about their circumstances, they’ll do that. Our immigration system needs to account for the fact that, for a lot of people around the world, illegal immigration is playing the lottery.

EXCLUSIVE: It Doesn’t Add Up – Did Partisan CIA ‘Whistleblower’ File Two Separate Complaints?

Things just don’t add up regarding the whole CIA ‘whistleblower’ complaint.  The complaint was filed in August, but the whistleblower forms weren’t updated until September and backdated to August. How could the initial whistleblower complaint be provided in August if the forms weren’t available at that time?

There are numerous questions surrounding the so-called ‘whistleblower’ complaint that surfaced a few weeks ago regarding President Trump’s communication with the newly elected President of the Ukraine.  Much of what is presented to date doesn’t add up.

Sean Davis at the Federalist has been on top of this and he noted the following on Monday, October 7th [note our highlighted section below]-

As The Federalist reported and the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) confirmed, the spy watchdog secretly changed its whistleblower forms and internal rules in September to eliminate a requirement that whistleblowers provide first-hand evidence to support any allegations of wrongdoing. In a press release last week, the ICIG confessed that it changed its rules in response to an anti-Trump complaint filed on August 12. That complaint, which was declassified and released by President Donald Trump in September, was based entirely on second-hand information, much of which was shown to be false following the declassification and release of a telephone conversation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Michael Atkinson, the intelligence community inspector general, told HPSCI lawmakers during a committee oversight hearing on Friday that the whistleblower forms and rules changes were made in September, even though the new forms and guidance, which were not uploaded to the ICIG’s website until September 24, state that they were changed in August. Despite having a full week to come up with explanations for his office’s decisions to secretly change its forms to eliminate the requirement for first-hand evidence and to backdate those changes to August, Atkinson refused to provide any explanation to lawmakers baffled by his behavior.

When pressed on the curious changes and attempts to obscure the timeline of his revisions, Atkinson refused to explain why the forms were backdated to August even though they were not made until September. The ICIG previously stated that it changed its forms and guidance “in response to recent press inquiries regarding” the anti-Trump complaint, of which Congress was not even notified until the second week of September. The new forms, which were not uploaded to the ICIG website until September 24, nonetheless stated that the revisions were made back in August.

Lawmakers honed in on the discrepancy during Atkinson’s appearance on Capitol Hill on Friday. How could the forms have been changed back in August if they were changed in response to press inquiries that could not have been made until mid-September at the earliest?

The original whistleblower complaint appears to be a letter to Congress –

This suggests that the original form was never filed at the time of the whistleblower complaint.  If it was then the form at that time would have shown that this was not a valid ‘whistleblower’ complaint because it didn’t allow for 2nd hand information.  If the whistleblower did file a complaint using the form necessary to file a complaint indicating that 2nd hand information was adequate then it would have had to be completed in late September.

Did the ‘whistleblower’ file two forms with the Intel community – one in August before the form was updated to allow for 2nd hand information and one after?  None of this makes sense and because none of this makes sense, there must be some shenanigans going on.

This leads us to the ICIG – Mr Michael Atkinson – the Conservative Treehouse notes Atkinson’s shady past –

Put another way, Michael Atkinson was the lawyer for the same DOJ-NSD players who: (1) lied to the FISA court (Judge Rosemary Collyer) about the 80% non compliant NSA database abuse using FBI contractors; (2) filed the FISA application against Carter Page; and (3) used FARA violations as tools for political surveillance and political targeting.

Yes, that means Michael Atkinson was Senior Counsel for the DOJ-NSD, at the very epicenter of the political weaponization and FISA abuse.

This poorly planned and instigated operation to remove the President from office is falling apart.  It’s not likely that it is the Deep State’s last effort but it may well be their worst effort to date.  What a bunch of corrupt goofballs!
