Five years ago, the death of Michael Brown inspired the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” line.

That’s because witnesses had claimed Brown, who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, put his hands up and told police not to shoot.

All over America, the slogan and gesture became emblematic not only of the Black Lives Matter movement but of a burgeoning left-wing indictment of law enforcement as systematically biased against and violent toward young black men.

There was one problem, though: It was all complete fiction. Michael Brown had done nothing of the sort.

Instead, he’d attacked a police officer. That’s how he ended up dead — not because of prejudice or improper use of force.

Five years later, activists haven’t learned a whole lot. In St. Paul, Minnesota, protesters organized by a number of groups — including the local Black Lives Matter chapter — are protesting the death of a 31-year-old man who was killed by police Sept. 15.

Was he unarmed? Well, no, he had a knife on him. In fact, body camera video shows he charged at the officer who shot him. He was given repeated warnings to drop the knife.

And, after all that, he ended up dead.

Protesters, meanwhile, want “justice.”

“Dozens of people marched Sunday evening from a St. Paul police station to the spot where a Little Canada man was shot and killed by an officer last week, where they spoke against police violence at a candlelight vigil,” the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported Sunday.

The event was organized by a number of groups including Black Lives Matter Twin Cities Metro, Communities United Against Police Brutality, Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar, Justice4MarcusGolden and Justice for Justine Damond Ruszczyk.

“Ronald Davis, 31, was fatally shot by Officer Steven Mattson last Sunday during an encounter at Thomas Avenue and Griggs Street,” the newspaper reported.

“Davis rear-ended Mattson‘s squad car when the officer was stopped at a stop sign, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the agency conducting the investigation,” the story continued. “Both men exited their vehicles, and Davis brandished a knife and ignored repeated commands to drop it, the BCA said in a statement. During the confrontation, Mattson fatally shot Davis.”

Even though the officer’s body camera footage was to be released later that week, protesters still weren’t going to wait for the facts to lambaste law enforcement over the shooting.

“Enough is enough,” activist and civil rights attorney Nekima Levy Armstrong said at the event.

“This man should still be alive,” she added. “I don’t care what happened in that car situation.”

Perhaps she should care. When the body camera footage was released on Tuesday, it showed that Davis was clearly intent on attacking Mattson and presented a clear and imminent threat to the officer’s life.

“As soon as Mattson exited the vehicle, Davis can be seen charging straight at him with what police identified a knife in his hand,” NBC News reported Tuesday.

“Mattson immediately moved back as the 31-year-old man continued to swipe at him with the knife, and at one point Mattson fell to the ground.”

In the video, Mattson can be heard repeatedly warning Davis to ditch the weapon: “Drop the knife. Drop the f—ing knife,” he says.

St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell said Mattson had “no choice but to defend himself.”

“While I recognize the trauma that has been caused by a history of policing practices throughout our country, that have disproportionately affected communities of color, I cannot stand by — I simply can’t sleep at night — knowing that a good officer and all of our officers are being assailed by people who simply do not have the facts,” Axtell told reporters.

“I look forward to moving forward together with our entire community and in good faith to achieve the outcomes that we all desire.”

The problem is that only works if the entire community is grounded in reality.

KARE reported during the protest that several of the protesters didn’t even believe that Davis had a knife. This was before the body camera footage was released, but that still shows a remarkable amount of credulousness by activists who simply didn’t want to acknowledge the facts.

But that’s how it always is with activists’ narratives regarding police shootings.

If the facts don’t fit, they don’t exist at all. Davis wasn’t a threat. He may not have even had a knife. Hands up, don’t shoot. The fallacies, as always, will live on even after the facts have come out.

The Pioneer Press’ article shows one of the signs at the rally: “Delay of justice is justice delayed.”

Nope. Davis got his justice on Sept. 15.

He attacked a police officer with a deadly weapon and ended up dead. That’s what happens when you do that.

When activists cover for people who are killed after violently attacking police, they’re teaching everyone the wrong lesson.

Nobody wants to see someone end up dead.

However, all of the narrative-building in the world can’t change the fact that Ronald Davis was the sole author of his own demise.

Around 50 illegal migrants have set up a makeshift camp in Rome’s Colle Oppio park, only steps away from the iconic Roman Colosseum.

The camp, which is said to resemble a favela, contains illegal migrants primarily from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, with some even staying in archaeological sites, such as the ruins of the Domus Aurea villa of the infamous Roman Emperor Nero, Il Giornale reports.

The paper spoke to a migrant from Mali named Ibrahim, who claimed that around 50 migrants reside in the park in total and that he was angry and would prefer to return to his home country.

Another migrant, a Pakistani, told the paper that other migrants “rob me all the time” and showed off his sharpened screwdriver saying: “I swear that if they try again I will kill someone.”

While the park is incredibly close to one of Rome’s main tourist areas, it has been plagued for years by homelessness and criminality.

Only two years ago, an American tourist was sexually attacked by a migrant from Africa who initially asked her for a cigarette and then proceeded to try and drag her into a nearby bush.

Valentina Salerno of the Citizens’ Committee of Colle Oppio expressed concern that such incidents could reoccur saying, “Many people are mentally ill from the psychiatric point of view, because of their difficult past, for the conditions they find here, and for how they are forced to live.”

The area is not the only part of Rome that has become a hub for illegal migrant criminal activity.

The city’s main railway station Termini is also known as a hotspot for illegal migrants, with a Moroccan man arrested in the area in April of this year for stabbing a homeless man because he was wearing a crucifix necklace.

Only months before, two illegals from Egypt were arrested in the same area after they brutally beat up and tried to rob a woman in her 60s.

Vegans are threatening to sue the government for not providing a plant-based alternative to milk in its Nursery Milk Scheme.

The government scheme provides one-third of a pint of milk daily to every child under the age of five in nursery school, but the Vegan Society claims the government’s lack of a plant-based alternative to cow’s milk is “discrimination”, according to The Mirror.

The Vegan Society wrote in a letter to the government that they would be taking it to court unless children on vegan diets are offered a fortified plant-based “milk” under the scheme, writing: “Public authorities are under a general duty under the Equality Act 2010 to avoid discrimination by limiting the Nursery Milk Scheme only to cow’s milk, the Department of Health is failing in that duty.”

Campaigns manager at the charity Mark Banahan claimed that “vegan children are unfairly treated”, lamenting that parents have to buy their own “plant milk” for them, “something that is not always possible for low-income families and causes a great deal of inconvenience to families who should be entitled to free milk alternatives”.

The European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) had said in May 2017: “Studies have shown that children who follow a vegan diet are leaner and smaller than those children who consume meat or those who have vegetarian diets.”

Attending the 50th annual meeting of the ESPGHAN, Mary Fewtrell, a professor of Childhood Nutrition at University College London, had warned of the dangers of young children being fed a vegan diet without proper supplementation and advised parents to strictly follow doctors’ guidelines.

Professor Fewtrell said: “It is difficult to ensure a healthy and balanced vegan diet in young infants, and parents should understand the serious consequences of failing to follow advice regarding supplementation of the diet.

“The risks of getting it wrong can include irreversible cognitive damage and, in the extreme, death.”

In May 2019, parents in Sweden were jailed for putting their toddler on a strict vegan diet that left her malnourished, almost killing her.

Vegan activists have called for their dietary choice to be deemed a protected characteristic — such as sexuality, gender, age, or race — and discrimination against it an offence, with three philosophers speaking to Quartz last year saying it should be given the same legally-protected status as religion.

Utilitarian philosopher at Princeton University Peter Singer said veganism was “a sounder belief than any of the religions” which “rests on a strong moral foundation. It’s clearly a deep belief, it affects your life and the way you behave and outlook on the world, and I think should count as philosophical belief.”

House Democrats who are moving ahead with an impeachment inquiry on President Trump have set a “horrific precedent,” said Democrat former CIA officer Bryan Dean Wright.

“Now the American people are being told we’re going to impeach the president … but guess what America, you can’t ask any questions of any of these people because they have certain protections,” Wright said during an interview on Fox & Friends Friday.

“That’s a sham; that doesn’t make any sense. That is an effort ultimately to kneecap … the president of the United States. This president or any other president, it is a horrific precedent,” he concluded.

The former CIA officer said that if the “whistleblower” is being used in an effort to try and remove President Trump, the individual should be forced to testify before Congress.

“You better stand up and do it publicly,” said Wright. He also criticized House Democrats for moving forward without gathering all of the facts.

“This isn’t about trying to get facts. We’ve already decided, as a partisan Democratic Party. I’m sorry to say, we’ve already decided we have to get rid of the president. We’re moving forward with it, irrespective of facts. That is clear.”

On Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) claimed, without evidence, that Russia was involved in the phone conversation in July between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“I think Russia has a hand in this, by the way,” Pelosi said during an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

She continued:

We saw what the Russian disruption of our election last time, their interference, 100% confidence of the intelligence community, high confidence in the intelligence community, that the Russians disrupted our election. That was wrong. The integrity of our elections is central to our democracy. So what the president did in inviting outside intervention into our election, it goes beyond the pale.

On September 21, Breitbart News reported that Congressional Republicans defended President Trump against the Democrats and the accusations made by the “whistleblower.”

“It’s not like we haven’t seen this movie before,” said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).

“Democrats come out, they’re all spun up, Adam Schiff makes all kinds of statements, and then when the facts come out — Whoa, different story! This seems to be the same kind of deal,” he concluded.

However, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said Friday that she hopes the impeachment inquiry will be completed before 2020 primary voting begins in February.

“Do you think it’s important that all of this be wrapped up before voting begins in February?” CNN’s political correspondent, MJ Lee, asked Warren on Friday’s broadcast of OutFront.

“Oh, I hope that it is. I’d like to see us get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible,” she replied.

Hundreds of students at Yale University abandoned their classes this week in an attempt to draw attention to climate change.

According to a report by the Yale student newspaper, hundreds of students abandoned their classrooms on Wednesday afternoon to bring attention to the university’s financial relationship with companies that have been accused of negatively impacting the environment through their business practices.

During the protest, Yale student Peter Steinmann read a list of demands directed at university officials. The students’ primary demand involves selling off the university’s financial interests in fossil fuel companies.

One student organizer of the demonstration estimated that as many as 1,500 Yale students participated in the “walk-out” protest. Some professors even allowed, or encouraged, their students to participate in the “walk-out” protest. Professor Sarah Mahurin was teaching “African American Autobiography” at the time of the protest. One student in her class claims that Mahurin permitted her students to leave class to attend the protest.

Yale officials claim that they do no invest in companies “that refuse to acknowledge the social and financial costs of climate change” and other that fail to take “economically sensible steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

However, the report also notes that the Yale Investments Office has refused, on more than one occasion, to answers calls from student activists to divest their interest in fossil fuel companies.

According to a report on its website, the Yale Investments Office, which oversees the University’s almost $30 billion endowment, decided in 2014 and 2016 to retain its holdings in fossil fuel companies. Because of increased pressure from student groups, the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility, which is composed of students, faculty, staff and alumni, addressed the issue of Puerto Rican debt. But they found that divestment “is not warranted when an investor is abiding by the applicable legal framework.” In the ACIR’s January 2018 decision, they added “there have been no allegations of unethical debt collection efforts or practices.”

George Soros financed radical environmental groups partnering in this week’s “Global Climate Strike” to the tune of nearly $25 million, according to a new report.

At least 22 of the left-wing activist groups listed as partners in the Global Climate Strike received $24,854,592 in funding from liberal billionaire George Soros between 2000-2017 through his Open Society Network, Joseph Vazquez reported Thursday for the Media Research Center.

Though ostensibly ignited by the protests of 16-year-old Greta Thunberg, the Global Climate Strike has borne from the outset the indelible fingerprints of well-funded, radical environmental activists. As it turns out, much of the funding has been coming from professional disrupter George Soros.

Among the organizations receiving Soros funding were Fund for Global Human Rights, Global Greengrants Fund, 350.org, Amnesty International, Avaaz, Color of Change, and People’s Action. Each of these groups has climate-related agendas and goals spanning from reducing global carbon emissions to less than 350 parts per million and 100 percent “clean energy,” to the elimination of new fossil fuel projects and a “green civil rights movement.”

Other major donors have included Democrat presidential candidate Tom Steyer’s NextGen America as well as the Sierra Club, which has reportedly received millions from former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The group 350.org, founded by Bill McKibben in 2008, has fought against coal power in India as well as tried to stop the Keystone XL pipeline in the U.S.

While kids were marching, singing, and twerking for the Global Climate Strike, a group of more than 500 scientists and professionals appealed to the United Nations for a long overdue, open debate on climate change.

“Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific,” the scientists stated in their declaration sent to the U.N. secretary general.

“Scientists should openly address the uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real benefits as well as the imagined costs of adaptation to global warming, and the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of mitigation,” they said.

The signers also insisted that public policy must respect scientific and economic realities and not just reflect the most fashionable trend of the day.

“There is no climate emergency. Therefore, there is no cause for panic and alarm,” they noted. “We strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic net-zero CO2 policy proposed for 2050.”

“If better approaches emerge, and they certainly will, we have ample time to reflect and adapt. The aim of international policy should be to provide reliable and affordable energy at all times, and throughout the world,” they said.
