This Father’s Day, Thank Dad for His Hard Work

Dads are sometimes labeled lazy, but they don’t deserve to be, a new research brief from the Institute for Family Studies argues.

In the past several years, both entertainment media and the think-piece-industrial complex have tended to paint a not-so-friendly pictures of dads. Moms are said to be suffering under "second-shift motherhood," while the "working dad" commands less and less respect, thanks to the perception that he does not pull his weight.

But is every dad really a shiftless Homer Simpson? Not quite, according to new work by IFS research fellow Robert VerBruggen. In honor of Father’s Day, he looked at data from the American Time Use Survey (ATUS), a time diary study that tracks how Americans spend our days.

"Among married couples living together with kids, if anything, it’s dads who do more work in total—adding up paid work, housework, child care, and even shopping," VerBruggen wrote. "Moms do work more in some specific circumstances, but the data acquit fathers as a group of the slacking charges so frequently leveled against them."

To reach this conclusion, VerBruggen looked at the behaviors of respondents to the ATUS who were married, with kids, and living with their spouse. Combining data on how much time parents report spending at work, doing household chores, and caring for kids shows that in the aggregate men outpace women. Specifically, dads do about 59 hours of work per week, while moms do about 55.

Part of this finding is a function of difference between the two groups—if moms are more likely to stay home and work less, and dads go to the office, that could explain the gap. But VerBruggen compared working moms and dads apples-to-apples and found that in all but one configuration, dad put in more time.

The above chart shows that when mom and dad both work—even when they both work full-time—dad works slightly more. Only in one situation (to be discussed below) do dads do less work: when they are staying at home, while their wives work full-time.

It is worth emphasizing that VerBruggen looked only at married different-sex couples with kids. These data do not, for example, cover the one-third of children living with a single mother; they also do not cover same-sex couples, who represent a small fraction of all married couples but tend to divide responsibilities up differently.

That said, we can understand why married heterosexual men work more in toto by breaking down work activities. Using VerBruggen’s data (which he provided to the Free Beacon), we can look at three broad categories: employment, household chores, and childcare.

The underlying trend should be unsurprising: Men do less work at home, but more on the job, and so do more work overall. Some point to this as evidence of gender inequity, with women kept at home and men out in the workplace. But VerBruggen thinks that much of this gap is explained by preference, pointing to surveys finding that women generally prefer either no or only part-time work, and evidence that such disparities exist even in highly gender-equitable countries like Sweden. What is more, even if preferences do not adequately explain the gap (and systemic factors are at play), it would only be fair to call dads lazy if labor force work is less strenuous or valuable than household work, a claim few would agree with.

The gender labor gap has persisted even as the American labor/household division has become more gender-equitable. According to the Pew Research Center, the number of dual-income families has risen from 49 percent in 1970 to 66 percent in 2016 (VerBruggen’s previous research has explored the class composition of these new working moms).

But the gap has shrunk some: Pew found that dads today spend 2.5 times longer on housework and 3.2 times longer on childcare than they did in 1965. In other words, dads have taken on more household responsibilities while still doing the lion’s share of the job-market work, a reality which helps explain why they do the most work in total.

What about those men who stay at home? VerBruggen specifically isolated respondents to the ATUS who both did not work and were not disabled. His finding replicates the conclusions of political demographer Nicholas Eberstadt’s monograph Men Without Work, which finds that men out of the labor force spend substantially less time on childcare and household chores than their female counterparts. What is more, the number of these men has been steadily growing over the past several decades.

It is not clear why this is. As Eberstadt recently argued, we do not even really have the numbers needed to tell us. And there is an open debate about why those men have dropped out of the labor force, whether they can be induced back in, and why they seem so reticent to take up household labor.

But while this share of the population is growing, it still remains a distinct minority. Most dads—at least in married families—work, and in fact do the most work on average. So, VerBruggen concludes, "we should stop whining about dads as a group not doing their share of the work their families depend upon—because that’s not true."

How Convenient! — Christopher Wray’s Corrupt FBI ‘Loses’ Notes from Meeting Where Corrupt Cop Peter Strzok was Told CHINA was Hacking Hillary’s Emails

Corrupt Deep State FBI has misplaced emails that would prove that Peter Strzok was lying to Congress last year about knowing about Hillary Clinton’s emails being hacked by China.  Imagine that!

Last year representative Louie Gohmert from Texas interviewed corrupt cop Peter Strzok before Congress  about whether he remembered anyone mentioning that China was hacking Hillary Clinton’s emails.  Strzok lied and said he didn’t remember which led Gohmert to call out his lying, especially about his affair with Lisa Page.  Gohmert said –

How many times did you look so innocent into your wife’s eye and lie to her about Lisa Page?

The point that Gohmert was trying to make was that the FBI knew that China was hacking Hillary’s emails but ignored it.  Instead the FBI selectively addressed whether Russia was hacking Hillary’s emails and used this story to make up the fake Trump – Russia collusion narrative.

This past week Tom Fitton from Judicial Watch released information related to China spying on the US.  Fitton says in the video below at the 3 minute mark –

Take this as an educated guess that the notes [lost by the FBI] reference a discussion and a warning given by the IG of the Intelligence community to Peter Strzok who’s running the investigation effectively for the FBI at the time that the Clinton’s email system, namely Hillary Clinton’s email server had likely been hacked in some way by the Chinese.  In a way that allowed them to get a copy of all the emails that were being sent and received.

The timing is, according to Louie Gohmert, about the same time, because he says the meeting took place in 2015.  And sure enough, the meeting that we’re referencing here was in August of 2015.  And Gohmert exposed that the investigator advises Strzok of an anomaly of Hillary Clinton’s emails going to the private server.  Forensic analysis found out that all those emails except four of the 30,000 were going to an address that was not on her distribution list.  It was later reported that it was a Chinese state owned company that hacked Clinton’s email server.

The ICIG referred the Clinton email investigation to the FBI on July 6, 2015, just under a month before the meeting for which the notes were lost.

So the FBI has lost the notes from 2015 that show that dirty cop Peter Strzok, who oversaw Hillary’s email investigation, was notified that China was spying on Hillary.  Corrupt cop Christopher Wray’s FBI does not want the American public to see these notes and therefore his FBI is now saying that the notes are conveniently lost.

The fact that the FBI would ignore China spying on Hillary’s emails was material to the Spygate story.  The FBI didn’t want to look into spying on Americans, they wanted to exonerate Hillary Clinton and go on to frame candidate and President Trump on bogus Russia collusion lies.

Will the Deep State ever be cleaned up and brought to justice?

Robert Mueller: A Scary and Mendacious Man

Robert Mueller’s troublesome, unethical, and corrupt FBI career prior to his appointment as the special counsel on the Trump-Russia Collusion investigation deserves a serious vetting.  I provide here two points of reference: a monograph by sitting congressman and former Texas State Court judge Louie Gohmert titled “Robert Mueller: Unmasked” and a book by Louisiana attorney and sitting Louisiana state senator John Milkovich titled Robert Mueller: Errand Boy for the New World Order.

Congressman Gohmert’s 48-page monograph is a discussion of a “long and sordid history of illicitly targeting innocent people that is a stain upon the legacy of American jurisprudence.  He lacks the judgment and credibility to lead the prosecution of anyone.”  Gohmert focuses on 18 examples, including:

  • Collusion with Boston mobster Whitey Bulger in criminality and framing innocent men for murder that resulted eventually in the release of innocent parties and 100 million dollars in compensation for for DOJ Boston Office misconduct.
  • The FBI with Mueller as director harassed and hounded Congressman Curt Weldon in revenge for criticizing FBI failures related to 9-11.
  • Dishonest prosecutions of Senator Ted Stevens.
  • Prosecutorial abuses in the anthrax murder investigations post 9-11, producing one suicide and one award of 6.8 million dollars to the other innocent target.
  • Mueller’s unethical acceptance of the special prosecutor position when he was conflicted by his longtime personal and professional relationship with James Comey.
  • Mueller hired extremely partisan, biased, and conflicted attorneys for his special counsel team.
  • Mueller’s investigation ignored that FISA applications evidence presented to justify warrants to surveil Trump associates were not verified and thus a fraud on the court and illegal.

Louisiana State Senator John Milkovich

Milkovich’s book, Robert Mueller: Errand Boy for the New World Order (2018), recounts Robert Mueller’s history of prosecutorial misconduct before his appointment as special counsel in the Trump matter.

Mr. Milkovich: “Mueller has left his imprint on some of the most notorious episodes of government wrongdoing of the last thirty years.”  Mr. Milkovich is and was assiduous in his research and provides almost 400 endnotes and more than 125 items of bibliography as reference sources for his 165-page self-published book.  When I asked him about the tough calls, he pointed to the sources and compelling evidence.

Mueller misconduct and his position in the DOJ/FBI:

  1. 9-11-2001 — FBI Director Failure of the FBI to investigate suspicious characters reported to the FBI in the fall of 2000 by Dr. David Graham, former Air Force officer and dentist friend of Mr. Milkovich, who suspected that the men were planning a terrorist attack on Barksdale Air Force Base, home for a Nuclear B52H Air Wing.  Dr. Graham reported his concerns to the local FBI office and was “stunned and outraged” in September 2001 when he saw after 9-11 that two of the men were in the group of 9-11 terrorist hijackers.  Dr. Graham protested to the FBI, was rebuffed, raised a political ruckus, threatened to write a book, and shortly thereafter was poisoned but survived with severe injuries and disability.  During his treatment at two medical facilities, FBI agents appeared and encouraged physicians to let Dr. Graham die because they said he was mentally ill and suicidal.
  2. Boston Mob 1984 — Asst. U.S. Attorney and Acting U.S. Attorney Boston Providing cover for the Whitey Bulger Winter Hill  Boston gang that committed murders and, of course, other crimes.  The FBI framed four men, who were convicted and incarcerated for murder.  The FBI was found culpable, and more than $100 million was awarded in compensation to the injured parties.
  3. Pan Am 103 1988–2001 — Chief of the Criminal Justice Division of the DOJ Was in charge of the investigation of the 1988 Pan Am 103 Lockerbie plane bombing killed 258 passengers and 11 on the ground.  Army major Charles McKee, who headed a Middle East hostage rescue team, was returning to the U.S. on Pan Am 103 with evidence to expose CIA-sponsored criminal activity.   After the plane was destroyed, Mr. Mueller supervised an army of FBI agents on the investigation, and finally, 12 years later, the case went to trial by a panel of Scottish judges.  Two Libyans were tried for murder; Al Amin Fhima was found not guilty, and Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was found guilty, sentenced to 20 years.  Many references by Mr. Milkovich provide a case that asserts that the FBI’s incompetent investigation failed to bring to justice Ahmed Jibril, the terrorist who arranged to plant the bomb, and others, including CIA agents, who were complicit in the bombing order to eliminate Major McKee.
  4. BCCI 1991,92 — Chief of the FBI Criminal Justice Division Mr. Mueller was actively and energetically involved in providing cover for the criminal malfeasance and perfidy by officials of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), cover-ups for black ops, money-laundering, and financing of international criminal activities.  Mr. Mueller and the FBI interfered with the investigation by Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau.
  5. Ruby Ridge 1992 — Chief of the FBI Criminal Division The FBI tried to get Randy Weaver to be an undercover informant on separatist groups in Idaho, but he was not cooperative.  Then federal agents (Marshals and what the FBI claimed to be a hostage rescue team) surrounded his isolated cabin in the mountains, and there was a 11-day siege, punctuated by a killing of Weaver’s wife from cover while she stood on a porch holding a baby.  In addition, the son was shot in the back with a machine gun, running from the gunfire.  Mueller objected publicly to anyone who would criticize the FBI conduct.
  6. 9-11-2001 — FBI Director Mueller was named FBI director one week before 9-11-2001, and his conduct and actions related to the catastrophe are another indication of his corrupt nature.  Milkovich makes the case that not only did Mueller arrange to evacuate Saudis after 9-11, but he obstructed, covered up, and obfuscated what the FBI knew about the terrorist plot and Saudi involvement before the attacks.
  7. Anthrax Terror Post 9-11-2001 — FBI Director when the post-9-11 anthrax mailings killed five and injured 14 others in the D.C. area shortly after 9-11, Mr. Mueller as FBI director was heavily involved in the investigations and accusations of two scientists who ended up innocent.  Dr. Bruce Ivins committed suicide, and Steve Hatfill won an award of $5.8 million dollars when he sued the FBI for prosecutorial misconduct.  Mr. Milkovich focuses on Ivins and does not discuss the Hatfill matter in his book.

Mueller said he had no regrets about the anthrax investigations even though the perps were never found and two men’s lives were turned upside-down by FBI malfeasance and incompetent, abusive investigations.  Mr. Milkovich details the incompetence and abuse in the Ivins investigations and indictment.

The last two chapters of Mr. Milkovich’s book lay out the case for the danger of the expanded power and reach of the administrative and surveillance state and the effort led by Mueller and his prosecution gang to accomplish a coup d’état.

MUELLER’S GOING DOWN: One of General Flynn’s New Attorneys Wrote the Book on Prosecutorial Ethics and Misconduct

Earlier this week it was widely reported that General Mike Flynn has hired well-known defense attorney Sidney Powell to represent him after abruptly firing his lawyers last week.

In a recent interview with The Epoch Times Sidney Powell blasted the appalling two-tiered judicial system in the United States today where General Michael Flynn can get set up and prosecuted by deep state operatives while Peter Strzok can leak and lie and get off scot free.

In December 2018 Powell accused the Mueller team of destroying evidence and obstructing justice in the Flynn case.

But General Flynn also hired several more attorneys besides Sidney Powell.

The team consists of new members — Jesse Binnall, Philip John Harvey & W. William Hodes, along with Sidney Powell — to represent him in his ongoing case.

These attorneys have entered notices of appearance in the EDVA case against Flynn’s former business partner where Flynn is expected to testify.

W. William Hodes is the author of “Law and Lawyering” a nationally recognized treatise on legal ethics that is updated annually. Hodes was a member of the Advisory Council to the American Bar Association’s Ethics 2000 Commission.

This should keep Robert Mueller and his far left “pitbull” Andrew Weissmann up at night.

The boomerang is coming folks.
Bill Barr and the DOJ have a lot of work to do if they want to regain the American public’s trust in the judicial system.

Watch: U.S. Video Shows Iran Military Recovering Mine from Oil Tanker in Gulf of Oman

The U.S. military has released video it says shows Iran’s Revolutionary Guard taking an unexploded mine from the hull of one of two oil tankers attacked in the Gulf of Oman. Tehran hit back, accusing the U.S. of waging an “Iranophobic campaign.”

The Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous and the Norwegian-owned Front Altair were attacked early Thursday morning. Both vessels suffered explosions, forcing crews to abandon ship and leave them adrift in waters between Gulf Arab states and Iran.

Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said the United States has assessed that Iran is responsible for the attacks and U.S. Central Command confirmed the details.

Centcom spokesman Lt. Col. Earl Brown said the U.S. Navy had responded immediately to the initial threat in the Gulf of Oman:

U.S. Naval Forces in the region received two separate distress calls at 6:12a.m. local time and a second one at 7:00 a.m. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command received the calls from the M/V Front Altair and M/V Kokuka Courageous, who were operating in international waters of the Gulf of Oman.

USS Bainbridge (DDG 96) was operating in the vicinity and provided immediate assistance to the M/V Kokuka Courageous. Twenty-one mariners from the M/V Kokuka Courageous, who abandoned ship, are currently aboard USS Bainbridge. A Navy P-8 is also providing support.

Iran has rejected the U.S. accusation against it as “baseless”. In a tweet posted early Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused the U.S. of “immediately” jumping to make allegations against Tehran without “a shred of factual or circumstantial evidence”.

The attack made it “abundantly clear that the #B_Team is moving to a #PlanB: Sabotage diplomacy — including by @AbeShinzo — and cover up its #EconomicTerrorism against Iran”.

Zarif regularly uses the term “B Team” to refer to U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton as well as Israel’s prime minister, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Thursday’s attack occured while Japanse Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was in Iran seeking to defuse tensions between Washington and the Islamic Republic.

Thursday’s attack resembled a similar operation in May targeting four oil tankers off the nearby Emirati port of Fujairah. U.S. officials similarly accused Iran of targeting the ships with limpet mines, which are magnetic and attach to the hulls of a ship. The mines disable, but don’t sink, a vessel.

The U.N. Security Council held closed consultations on the tanker incidents late Thursday at the request of the United States but took no action.

FIRE: Sex Jokes on Campus Could Land You in Jail Under Proposed Texas Law

A new bill moving forward in the Texas legislature could possibly criminalize sex jokes on campus, according to FIRE. The organization devoted to free speech on campus also expects a flood of “unmeritorious complaints” to Title IX offices at universities in the state.

According to an analysis by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), Texas state bill SB 212 may include an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment right to freedom of speech.

“The absurd result of this legislation would be that, if the proposed regulations become final, faculty and staff at Texas’s universities could be sent to prison for failing to report speech and conduct that does not even constitute sexual harassment according to the federal agency responsible for enforcing Title IX on campus,” FIRE wrote in a blog post.

The primary purpose of the bill is to punish university administrators who fail to properly report sexual harassment and misconduct. Under the bill, those that fail to properly report these crimes could face criminal prosecution themselves.

FIRE also fears the bill, if passed, would lead to an avalanche of frivolous Title IX reports, including reports made solely because of a joke.

Enacting these provisions into law will force employees — including university faculty — to over-report, lest they risk a jail sentence, fine, and/or termination. This in turn will flood institutional Title IX offices with unmeritorious complaints, including instances of speech plainly protected by the First Amendment or institutional promises of freedom of expression. Sifting through this avalanche will squander institutional resources that could be far better devoted to pursuing serious complaints intentionally brought to the attention of Title IX officers.

The Texas Senate passed the bill at the end of March. It is now awaiting approval from the Texas House of Representatives. Some activists are now calling on Texas Governor Greg Abbott to veto the bill to protect free expression.
