Colorado Students Walk Out After Politicians Hijack STEM Vigil to Push Gun-Control

A vigil for the victims of the STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting ended in protest on Wednesday after students accused Colorado elected officials of politicizing their grief to push for gun-control.

The vigil, organized by students from Highlands Ranch and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, was held one day after two gunmen opened at fire at STEM resulting in the death of one student and eight others wounded. Initially, the 2,000 in attendance were somber and reserved in honor of Kendrick Castillo, the STEM student who lost his life when subduing one of the gunmen.

The situation, however, quickly changed when two members of Colorado’s congressional delegation, Democrats Michael Bennett and Jason Crow, took the opportunity to press for gun-control.

Bennett, the state’s senior senator who recently launched a bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, invoked Castillo’s bravery to argue Congress’s inaction had forced students to take school safety into their own hands.

"Their job is not to fix America’s broken gun laws," Bennett told the students, according to a reporter from The Colorado Sun. "Their job is not to give up their own life…to save their classmates’ lives."

Freshman representative Jason Crow echoed a similar sentiment, telling those gathered "they already" had his "thoughts and prayers" but deserved and "should demand more." Crow, who represents STEM and Highlands Ranch in Congress, was one of the first elected officials to call for "common-sense gun violence laws" in the wake of the shooting.

The remarks by Bennett, Crow, and other speakers struck students in attendance, especially survivors of the shooting, as inappropriate. A large portion of students chose to walk out in protest, rather than remain at the vigil.

"Don’t use Kendrick’s name for political reasons!" one of the students shouted when exiting, as reported by the Highlands Ranch Herald. Chants of "Mental health!" and "It’s not about guns," were also heard.

After standing in the parking lot for sometime, the students were enticed to return with the promise that they would be allowed to speak by the vigil’s organizers.

"What has happened at STEM is awful, but its not a statistic," one of the students said on stage afterwards, according to video from a local NBC affiliate. "We can’t be used as a reason for gun-control. We are people, not a statement."

Another student used the time granted to praise the organic nature of the walk out.

"We wanted Kendrick to be mourned, we wanted all of you to join us in that morning," the student said. "But that was not allowed here. We all walked out, we were not kicked out, despite what you have heard. We’re back now to tell you that we love Kendrick, we love all of the survivors."

On Thursday, Crow announced he would introduce legislation to prohibit gun sales to individuals residing outside of the state of purchase.

Boycott Backfire: New Rankings Show Chick-Fil-A Is Thriving

Despite endless efforts to boycott Chick-fil-A from the Left, Yahoo Finance reporter Myles Udland announced Wednesday that the fast-food eatery has become the third-largest restaurant chain in the nation and has tripled its sales over the last ten years.

Food service consultancy Technomic Inc. provided the new rankings showcasing Chick-fil-A’s steady boost in popularity, according to The Wall Street Journal. In 2018, the eatery hit $10.2 billion in sales and has just about doubled its number of locations since 2007.

“Each year since 2015, Chick-fil-A has been the top-rated fast-food restaurant on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, which considers factors such as staff courtesy and restaurant cleanliness,” reported the Journal, adding: “Among limited-service U.S. restaurants that mainly serve chicken, Chick-fil-A’s market share rose to 33% last year from 18% in 2009, while the market share of Yum Brands Inc.’s KFC chain fell to 15% from 29% in that time, according to data tracker Euromonitor.”

“We’ve been pretty consistent in how, over multiple decades, we’re going to take it slow and steady,” said Chick-fil-A senior director Mark Moraitakis. “It’s paid off for us.”

Though the restaurant has been praised for the friendly and efficient customer service and legendary chicken, it has also become a target of left-wing political backlash. Activists and politicians have tried to brand Chick-fil-A as discriminatory and anti-LGBT over the company donating to Christian charities and CEO Dan Cathy’s nearly-decade old remarks affirming that biblical marriage is between a man and a woman.

“It has been seven years since Dan Cathy affirmed biblical marriage in an interview. Seven years. Almost a decade. And yet the LGBT lobby has not yet dropped the matter. Against all odds, they have remained obsessed with the chicken chain for these 80 or so months,” The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh wrote last month. “Just recently, Chick-fil-A locations were blocked from opening at airports in Buffalo and San Antonio. Protests are still waged. Gay rights activists are still writing angry think pieces. We still are told that eating a Chick-fil-A chicken nugget is an act of bigotry against homosexuals. The chicken itself is labeled ‘hateful.’ All, again, because of views expressed by Dan Cathy during Obama’s first term in office.”

Walsh highlighted that Chick-fil-A has not been “accused of actively discriminating against gay people. They serve gay people. They hire gay people. They do not take any discriminatory actions of any kind against gay people.”

Notably, Chick-fil-A broke their rule of staying closed on Sundays and provided free food to people donating blood in response to the tragic 2016 terrorist attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. In other words, this was just another example of Chick-fil-A being really bad at “hating” gay people.

“But the founder is a Christian who believes what the Bible says. And that has been reason enough to spend seven entire years trying (unsuccessfully, and often hilariously) to destroy the man’s business,” continued Walsh.

Unsuccessfully, indeed.

President Trump Is Right – China MUST Make a Deal with the US on Trade… NOW!

Guest post by Joe Hoft

Just like the US in 2008, a perfect storm is building in China.  The overbuilding, cash-flow challenges and lack of demand in China all could combine for a major financial disaster.  Trump is right – now is the time to make a deal with China.

As the movie The Big Short showed, in 2008 few individuals saw the US sub-prime crisis before it raised its head.

The cause of the 2008 sub-prime crisis is discussed in the book Falling Eagle, Rising Tigers

Politicians would have you believe that the 2008 financial meltdown was related to the more recent actions of one party or the other, but the roots of the 2008 housing market crisis really began in the 1930s with the creation of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), which guaranteed banks’ mortgage risks and the Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA), which effectively insured mortgages by purchasing mortgages from lenders. Both shifted risks from the lenders to the US taxpayers. Then in 1977, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter. This law was designed to promote home ownership for minorities by prohibiting banks from refusing mortgages in poor areas due to the loan’s high risk. In addition, mortgage lenders were required under the 1975 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) to provide data about who they lent to. Then in 1991, HMDA rules were tightened and included specific demands for racial equality in the institution’s lending.

Credit-worthiness was no longer relevant in the US and the volume of subprime loans exploded. The government had inserted itself in the mortgage business. Like most government initiatives, their plans were doomed. Americans lacking the ability to pay for mortgages were provided mortgages at teaser rates that when fully adjusted would never be paid. This ultimately climaxed in 2008 with the subprime crisis that sent shock waves around the world and put financial markets in a tailspin.

Another financial meltdown is in the works – this time in China

Over the past few decades, China opened its borders and corporations around the world fled to China due to its cheap capital and meager payroll costs. As a result, China’s economy exploded. Again, from Falling Eagle, Rising Tigers

While the US is moving more and more towards a welfare state, China is moving more and more towards prosperity. “Since the launch of economic reform in 1978 more people (in China) have been made materially better off in a shorter span of time than ever before in human history.”

China’s rise out of poverty has been dramatic. For example, considering a consumption threshold of $1 a day using the 1993 Power Purchasing Parities (PPP), the World Bank tracked a reduction of poverty from 652 million Chinese people in 1981 to 135 million in 2004. China’s anti-poverty performance is even remarkable with a standard of $1.25 a day at 2005 PPP. “The numbers in poverty by this measure dropped from 848 million in 1981 to 351 million in 2004. This denotes that there were 517 ($1 standard) or 497 million ($1.25 standard) people who had escaped from absolute poverty during 1981-2004.” A half a billion Chinese citizens have risen out of poverty due to China’s changing policies!

The Chinese were relentless in their efforts to obtain Western technology and grow their economy. They set up trade barriers and manipulated their currency in ways that helped China. The US was at a disadvantage in trade resulting in massive deficits in the billions.

Along comes the Trump Administration, the first administration to address China’s unfair trade advantage. These efforts by the Trump team to bring China to the table to address trade inequalities involving the US may result in slowing down the China economy. The timing of these barriers is not good for China as there are more pressing issues that must be addressed. President Trump is a shrewd negotiator and he obviously believes now is the time to encourage China to make changes to their trade barriers with the US. China may have no choice but to go with what the US offers to keep its economy afloat.

The more pressing issues for China surround real estate, in a manner similar to the US in 2008. As China grew, it invested in its infrastructure and in addition, it invested in large housing projects throughout the country. These efforts helped bolster China’s already fast growing economy.

The problem is that China over invested in these random properties all over China and these properties today remain empty.

(See below pictures of real estate projects the middle of China (Hubei Province) – massive but mostly empty.)

There simply are not enough people in the area where these massive complexes were built that make enough money to afford living in these communities. It appears that the Chinese communists misunderstanding of supply and demand economics may be their downfall.

These many properties throughout China sit unoccupied, and there is a cost to this. Bloomberg reported in September 2018 –

Cash-to-short-term debt levels at more than 80 publicly traded real estate companies tracked by Bloomberg were 133 percent on average in the first half, the worst since the first six months of 2015 and down from 297 percent a year earlier. Almost a quarter of developers sport a ratio below 50 percent.

In addition, Bloomberg noted:

But while business has been booming, developers have also been piling on the debt. Firms have been selling more bonds in the domestic market — and at the cheapest rates as investors shrug off default concerns. Those with dollar-denominated obligations, meanwhile, face higher borrowing costs as the U.S. Federal Reserves continues on its tightening path.

The amount of debt related to China’s over development is massive. The total amount is unknown with S&P estimating the amount not reported by local communities and banks being over $6 trillion:

China may be sitting on a hidden debt pile of as much as 40 trillion yuan ($6 trillion), concealed off-balance-sheet by the country’s local governments, according to research from S&P Global Ratings.

Many local governments in China raise debt and hold it off their balance sheet, in order to avoid lending limits imposed by central authorities. S&P says that this is a growing problem within the country, and that the amount of debt held this way has likely ballooned in recent years.

The government may have to take over these debts as they become insolvent –

Not only is the level of hidden debt held by local governments in the world’s second largest economy rising, but so too is the risk of those debts being defaulted on. Much of the debt is held by so-called local government financing vehicles (LGFVs), and S&P reports that central government may be willing to let these vehicles file for bankruptcy in the future.

“Default risk of LGFVs is on the rise. China has opened up the possibility of insolvent LGFVs filing for bankruptcy, but managing the default aftermath is a formidable task for top leadership,” the report noted….

The country’s total non-financial sector debt, which includes household, corporate and government debt, will surge to almost 300% of GDP by 2022, up from 242% in 2016. Fears abound that if this debt pile continues to grow, a spectacular blow up could be imminent.

China’s financial crash may make the 2008 crash in the US look small. The implications will no doubt impact the entire world.  This is why China can’t afford to mess around with President Trump and must put together a treaty as soon as possible.

President Trump is right.  Now is the time to deal with China.  America deserves better terms.

Enraged pro-choice student throws punches, gets citation for assault

The reaction of this 19-year-old college student almost makes Brian Sims look rational by comparison. Almost.

A group called Created Equal set up a display of pro-life posters on the campus of University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. You can’t really see them in the video below but those posters are graphic depictions of abortion. In fact, this group is a successor to another group called the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform which toured college campuses putting up graphic images of abortion for over a decade. In any case, the images were apparently too much for one female college student who asked the intern watching the signs if he was responsible and then immediately started throwing punches. From Fox News:

[Jillian] Ward approached the group’s display on April 2, asking them, “Did y’all put these up?”

When Austin Beigel confirmed that he did, she raced toward him with fists flying. Beigel was allegedly punched in the face a number of times and was also hit in the stomach.

“F***ing terrible person,” Ward screamed. “You’re a terrible person. You — this is not okay. This is not okay. This is not okay. Shut the f**k up right now. This is wrong. This is triggering. You’re not an innocent human being. You’re a terrible person.”

She’s not wrong about the images being triggering. They’re meant to be. But they’re meant to trigger thought and reflection, not violence. Here’s the video:

The guy filming (and being punched) is named Austin Beigel. According to the Created Equal website, he’s a student himself as well as an intern with the group. He handled this bad situation about as well as it could be handled. He backed away and told her to stop and to calm down. Most importantly, he didn’t respond in kind either verbally or by shoving or hitting the young woman back. Police did arrive and the woman was given a citation for misdemeanor assault. That seems appropriate given that this clearly was assault and that she didn’t seem capable of doing any serious damage.

Something similar happened at Indiana University last year. In that instance, a 21-year-old vandalized several of the group’s signs with spray paint and then tore them apart. There’s a revealing moment in this clip where someone driving past as this guy vandalizes the pro-life signs shouts “I won’t do it; I support you.” It’s a small minority of progressives who get carried away with violence, vandalism, or harassment but there’s a larger group who support them either openly or tacitly.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Jillian Ward becomes a far-left hero on campus for throwing these punches, just as I expect a lot of people on the left think Rep. Brian Sims is a hero even if they’re a bit ashamed to say so out loud in mixed company.

Crisis: CBP’s April Border Numbers Further Reveal The Dire Situation At Our Southern Border

In early April, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released its border crossing and apprehension numbers for the month of March. And as The Daily Wire has repeatedly noted, the situation was already so dire that CBP Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez referred to the onslaught, at the time of the release of the March numbers, as a “system-wide emergency”:

“We are currently experiencing a system-wide emergency in our processing and holding facilities. The humanitarian crisis created by a massive influx of family groups and unaccompanied children in recent months has forced CBP to reallocate resources away from law enforcement, trade and travel missions to process and provide care for those in our custody,” said CBP Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez. “The impacts to legitimate trade and travel cannot be overstated. As this crisis continues to worsen, it undermines CBP’s ability to perform its dual mission of protecting our borders and facilitating legitimate trade and travel.”

We are past the point of being in a full-on crisis at our southern border, as even an increasing number of Democrats and venerable leftist media outlets are willing to concede. And yet, as The Daily Wire reported yesterday, the brand-new CBP numbers released for the month are even more harrowing.

It is worth breaking down the numbers a little more. Per CBP’s official data release, total border apprehensions between points of entry in April rose 6.62% over March’s already-record-shattering pace. Astoundingly, April’s apprehension total of 98,977 is a full 94.04% higher than the monthly total from the beginning of the federal government’s fiscal year, in October 2018. In other words, apprehensions between points of entry along the border have nearly doubled in just the first seven months of the current fiscal year. As Daniel Horowitz observes, the combined total for points of entry inadmissibles and apprehensions between points of entry is 109,144, which is the highest monthly total since the second term of the George W. Bush administration. Furthermore, as Horowitz states, “it is very likely the highest number of unique individuals of all time, given that many in the past were the same individuals deported multiple times within the same week, while almost all of these are first-timers.”

It is also worth re-emphasizing the social transformation without representation that is currently transpiring with respect to our immigration numbers from Guatemala and Honduras, in particular. As the Department of Homeland Security has stated, over 1% of the populations of each country have entered the United States since September. But according to immigration policy expert Horowitz’s own math, “the size of these countries’ populations in America equal roughly 6.6% and 9.2% of their respective populations in Guatemala and Honduras.” Those are eye-gouging statistics.

TheBlaze broke down the single adults and family unit tallies: “CBP reported that most of those apprehended in April (58,474 or 59 percent) crossed the border in a family unit. Less than one-third (31,606 or 32 percent) were single adults. In contrast, most of those turned away at the border (6,144 or 60 percent) were single adults.”

CBP sounded the alarm yesterday on its official Twitter feed, tweeting, “As of Sunday, only 7 months into the fiscal year, #BorderPatrol has surpassed the TOTAL Southwest border apprehensions of every fiscal year since 2009.” It also tweeted, “#CBP is experiencing an unprecedented and unsustainable situation at the Southwest border. In April, CBP apprehended or deemed inadmissible 109,144 individuals along the SWB.”

“Unsustainable,” indeed. Hopefully our policymakers are paying attention.

Chinese Construction Company Rakes in Millions While Venezuelans Starve

Reuters on Tuesday took a close look at the adventures of the Chinese state-run CAMC engineering company, which somehow managed to pocket over a billion dollars from the socialist government of Venezuela for an agriculture project that never produced any food, even as the people of Venezuela descend into abject poverty and starvation.

CAMC was hired by current dictator Nicolás Maduro’s predecessor, the equally monstrous Hugo Chávez, in 2010. The Chinese company was to undertake a sweeping renovation of the remote Delta Amacuro region, providing it with infrastructure such as roads and bridges, the biggest rice-processing plant in the region, and “rice paddies twice the size of Manhattan.”

“Nine years later, locals are hungry,” Reuters reported. “Few jobs have materialized and the plant is only half-built, running at less than one percent its projected output. It hasn’t yielded a single grain of locally grown rice, according to a dozen people involved in or familiar with the development.”

According to court documents the news organization reviewed, at least $1.4 billion went swirling down the black hole of the CAMC project – real dollars, not the worthless socialist scrip Venezuelans must proffer in duffel bags to purchase a loaf of bread, if they can find one for sale.

Corrupt Venezuelan officials appear to have pilfered a hundred million dollars in bribes and kickbacks. Among those charged or investigated in connection with the project are a Venezuelan oil minister’s cousin, the Venezuelan national oil company’s top representative in China, and a former ambassador to China who currently serves as Venezuela’s top diplomat in the United Kingdom.

As for CAMC, it was paid staggering sums of money for projects that it never finished, giving it roughly a tenfold return on the $100 million it sank into kickbacks and bribes. The company vaguely asserted to Reuters that the paperwork it saw contained “a large number of inaccuracies” but did not detail them.

Company executives universally ignored requests for an interview, as did the Venezuelan Information Ministry and the national oil company, PDVSA, listed as a partner on many of the CAMC contracts. The Chinese Foreign Ministry muttered about “obviously distorted and exaggerated facts with a hidden agenda” but did not describe either the facts or the agenda.

The Delta Amacuro debacle is part of a pattern in which Chávez, and later Maduro, spent lavishly on Chinese construction projects – often using money provided by Chinese loans against Venezuela’s oil – that never actually produced any benefits for the Venezuelan people:

After an ambitious 2007 agreement between China and Venezuela, Chinese companies were announced as partners in billions of dollars’ worth of infrastructure and other projects. Since then, China invested over $50 billion in Venezuela, mostly in the form of oil-for-loan agreements, government figures show.

In a 2017 speech, Maduro said 790 projects with Chinese companies had been contracted in sectors ranging from oil to housing to telecommunications. Of those, he said, 495 were complete. Some developments have stalled because of graft, people familiar with the projects said; others were derailed by incompetence and a lack of supervision.

In Delta Amacuro, even government officials say a mixture of both ruined the rice project.

“The government abandoned it,” says Victor Meza, state coordinator for Venezuela’s rural development agency, which worked with CAMC. “Everything was lost. Everything was stolen.”

Some of these boondoggles were power plants, which offers a far more logical explanation for Venezuela’s collapsing electric grid than Maduro’s paranoid fantasies about opposition saboteurs knocking out the power with super-advanced American weapons.

Scooping up a billion dollars here and there for half-hearted efforts at construction projects which are invariably ruined by corrupt and incompetent Chávez and Maduro stooges is hardly the extent of China’s game in Venezuela. The important thing was to get the Venezuelan dictators to take those huge Chinese loans and sign over the oil, which Chavez at one point boasted could meet China’s needs for two hundred years. That is the main reason China keeps pouring money into Venezuela after most other investors cut their losses.

The projects China agreed to build might have gotten closer to operational status if the bottom had not dropped out of the oil market in the middle of the decade, leaving both the Chinese and Venezuelan sides of the partnership with little reason to pretend they were still building anything useful.

China provided Maduro with enough money to keep his elites on board, and enough weapons to arm his troops, while Russia supplied some goons to keep Venezuelan military from defecting. Everyone who matters is getting what they want in Venezuela. Only a very small percentage of the population matters.

Watch Live: Venezuelans Clash with Communist Maduro Supporters Outside D.C. Embassy

Leftists who support Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and have occupied the Venezuelan Washington, DC, embassy since last week are holding a press conference at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Thursday to complain that the electricity has been turned off.

The leftwing groups, including the controversial group Code Pink, claim they are lawfully occupying the space, which diplomats abandoned when the effort to replace Maduro with the now legitimate interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, began to unfold in recent weeks.

The occupiers believe that the developments in Venezuela where Maduro still clings to power represent a military coup aided and abetted by the United States, even though the only military action there has been troops loyal to the dictator attacking pro-Guaidó protesters.

In D.C., Venezuelans and Venezuelan Americans have been camping on the sidewalks outside of the embassy to show their support for Guaidó and for democratic elections after Maduro is removed from office.

As Breitbart News reported, CNN reported that the U.S. State Department said any unauthorized individuals on the property are considered trespassers.

“The Venezuelan government, led by Interim President Juan Guaidó, has legal authority over the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, D.C.,” the State Department said in a statement.

“We encourage the remaining unauthorized individuals to vacate the building and to conduct any future protest peacefully and through legal means,” the statement said.

Donald Trump: John Kerry ‘Should Be Prosecuted’ for ‘Violating the Logan Act’

President Donald Trump said Thursday former Secretary of State John Kerry should be prosecuted for violating the Logan Act, after communicating with Iranian officials during the Trump administration.

“That’s a violation of the Logan Act, and frankly he should be prosecuted on that, but my people don’t want to do anything on that,” Trump said to reporters at the White House.

Trump suggested that only Democrats liked to prosecute political opponents.

In 2018, Kerry admitted meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif “three or four times” to discuss Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran that Trump ended.

“John Kerry violated the Logan Act, plain and simple,” Trump said. “He shouldn’t be doing that.”

Trump said that Kerry was keeping Iranian officials from reaching out to him to work with his administration.

“They should call, and if they do, we’re open to talk(ing) to them. We have no secrets, and they can be very, very strong financially,” Trump said.

Trump acknowledged there was a risk of military confrontation with Iran after he sent a carrier group to the Middle East amidst threats from Iran to American interests.

“We have one of the most powerful ships in the world that’s loaded up and we don’t want to do anything,” he said.

Professor: Climate Change Causes Anxiety and Trump’s Election Makes it Worse

A professor who teaches climate change classes — a subject some would question as a legitimate area of study — said she has seen students who suffer fear, grief, stress, and anxiety about the future.

“A student in Wendy Petersen Boring’s climate-change-focused class said she woke at 2 a.m. and then cried for two solid hours about the warming ocean,” CNN reported.

“This is a computer science major,” Petersen Boring said.

Peterson Boring is an associate professor of history, religious studies, women and gender studies at Willamette University in Oregon also has taught climate change classes for more than ten years.

“In that short time, she has watched her students’ fear, grief, stress, and anxiety grow,” CNN reported.

”Back in 2007, it was the mouse in the room; then, it became the elephant in the room,” Peterson Boring said. “By 2016, those concerns and fears began to flood over.”

CNN bolsters her claim by citing polls it says show many Americans are worried about global warming without linking to any of those polls.

But the media outlet does link to a 2007 abstract on a federal website that puts a name on the so-called climate change anxiety.

“There’s no clinical definition, but climate anxiety and grief or solastalgia — ‘the distress that is produced by environmental change impacting on people while they are directly connected to their home environment’ — has become such a concern that the American Psychological Association created a 69-page climate-change guide to help mental health care providers,” CNN reported.

“Increasing adoption of active commuting, public transportation, green spaces, and clean energy are all solutions that people can choose to support and integrate into their daily lives,” the 2017 report stated. “These climate solutions, among others, can help to curb the stress, anxiety, and other mental illnesses incurred from the decline of economies, infrastructure, and social identity that comes from damage to the climate.”

And groups have sprung up to address the phenomenon, including Good Grief in Salt Lake City, “created to help people build resilience while discussing ‘eco-anxiety,’ despair and inaction on the environment.”

CNN notes that some people are so distraught that they have decided to join groups like BirthStrike, which advocates for not having children because of the grim future they would face because of climate change.

CNN does not question conclusions reached by the United Nations, including human activity causing the extinction of as many as a million species and that it could be just a matter of years until mass death and destruction if no action to stop climate change is taken.

“It’s going to take an enormous global effort to keep the planet from that catastrophic point,” CNN reported.

Then the news outlet blames the election of President Donald Trump for an increase in anxious students in Peterson Boring’s classes.

“With the Trump election, the change in my students, the sense of grief and fear and paralysis in the room, became palpable,” Petersen Boring said.

“Anxiety is something people feel more and more when they get closer to an anti-goal, meaning a negative result, like the destruction of the planet,” Janet Swim, a psychology professor at Penn State said in the CNN report.

CNN’s report includes a list of things people can do to lessen their climate change anxiety, including becoming a climate change activist, adopting a “plant-based diet,” walk or bike instead of driving, and bring your own coffee cup and utensils to work or the local coffee shop.

WATCH: Jim Jordan Hurls Searing Condemnation Of Democrats Targeting Bill Barr

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee discussed possibly holding Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt, prompting a searing condemnation from Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), who snapped, “I think it’s all about trying to destroy Bill Barr because Democrats are nervous he is going to get to the bottom of everything. He is going to find out how and why this investigation started in the first place.”

Jordan’s blistering speech included noting that Barr had stated there was a failure of leadership in the upper echelon of the FBI, that spying on the Trump campaign in 2016 did indeed occur, and that there may have been unauthorized and political surveillance.

Jordan began:

Bill Barr is following the law, and what’s his reward? Democrats are going to hold him in contempt. I don’t think today’s actually about getting information. I don’t think it’s about getting the unredacted Mueller report. I don’t think last week’s hearing was actually about having staff question the Attorney General. I think it’s, as my colleague said earlier, I think it’s all about trying to destroy Bill Barr because Democrats are nervous he is going to get to the bottom of everything. He is going to find out how and why this investigation started in the first place.

Jordan then segued to what really frightened Democrats:

Never forget what Bill Barr said a few weeks ago, three and a half weeks ago when he testified in front of the Senate Finance Committee: he said a lot of important things but he said three, excuse me, four very interesting things. First he said there was a failure of leadership at the upper echelon, terms he used, upper echelon of the FBI. We all know that’s the case: Director Comey’s been fired; Director McCabe fired, lied three times under oath according to the Inspector General, FBI counsel Jim Baker demoted and left, currently under investigation by the Justice Department; Lisa Page, demoted and left; Peter Strzok, deputy head of counter intelligence, demoted and fired, Peter Strzok, the guy who ran the Clinton investigation and the Russia investigation. There was certainly a failure of leadership at the upper echelon of the FBI.

Second thing the Attorney General said three and a half weeks ago in front of the Senate Finance Committee: Spying did occur. Said it twice. Yes, spying did occur.

Third: He said there’s a basis for my concern about the spying that took place. Maybe the most interesting thing: two terms he used that, frankly, I find frightening. He said there was – in his judgment he thinks there may have been unauthorized surveillance and political surveillance. Scary terms.

We gotta go back to January 3, 2017: Senator Schumer on the “Rachel Maddow Show” talking about then President-elect Trump says this: “If you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you.”

Now, I don’t know if the FBI went after President Trump in six ways, but I sure know they went after him in two ways. The first one is the now-famous dossier. On October 12, 2016, the FBI used one party’s opposition research document as the basis to go to a secret court to get a warrant to spy on the other party’s campaign. That happened. Democratic National Committee, the Clinton campaign, paid Perkins Coie law firm who hired Fusion GPS, who then hired a foreigner, Christopher Steele, who did what? Talked to Russians and put together this salacious, unverified document that became the basis to get a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. They did it. And when they went to the court, they didn’t tell them important things like who paid for it; they didn’t tell them that Christopher Steele had already told the FBI, the Justice Department, that he was “desperate to stop Trump.” And they didn’t tell the court that Christopher Steele had been fired by the FBI cause he was out talking to the press. They did that.

And second, just last Thursday, just last Thursday, New York Times story: “FBI investigator, posing as assistant, to meet with the Trump aide in 2016.” FBI sent someone in, pretending to be somebody else, to talk with George Papadopoulos, who was with the Trump campaign. You know what they call that? You know what they call that? It’s called spying. They did it. They did it. They did it twice, and who knows how much more. And what I know is that Bill Barr has said he’s going to get to the bottom of it, and think about the term he used, again. This is important: political surveillance. The United States of America —

Another member of the committee asked, “Will the gentleman yield?”

Jordan, fiercely, “I will not yield.”

He continued:

Think about that term. He said he’s going to get a team together and investigate all this. This is critical. And never forget: the guy who ran this investigation, Peter Strzok, ran the Clinton investigation and then launched and ran the Trump/Russia investigation, never forget what he said: “Trump should lose a hundred million to zero. We need an insurance policy.” He told Lisa Page, “Don’t worry, Lisa; we’ll stop Trump.”

This is what Bill Barr wants to investigate. As my colleagues have said, this is the House Judiciary Committee, with the history this committee has in protecting fundamental liberties and protecting the Constitution. Last week there was another important document, document Emmet Flood (Special Counsel to the President) to the Attorney General. I just want to read a couple of sentences: “Under our system of government, unelected executive branch officers and intelligence agency personnel are supposed to answer to the person elected by the people, the president, and not the other way around. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue; it’s a matter of having a government responsible, to ‘We The People.’ In the partisan commotion surrounding the Mueller Report, it would be well to remember that would can be done to a president can be done to any of us.”

And this committee is supposed to look out for that fundamental fact more than anything else. And we are not doing that today.
