Democrats and their media surrogates like the New York Times threw everything into depriving President Donald Trump of a big legislative victory by sinking the tax reform bill but like so many other things in this year of their discontent, their efforts failed.
Thinks began looking bad when reliable allies like Susan Collins and John McCain cut and run on their Democrat pals and in the end, only bitter, backstabbing Bob Corker was left as the “Republican” who sided with the obstructionist Dems who saw the Senate bill pass 51-49 early Saturday morning.

Via Politico “Senate passes sweeping tax overhaul”:
The Senate narrowly passed a massive tax overhaul early Saturday morning, putting Republicans on the cusp of revamping the U.S. tax system for the first time in more than three decades.
The 51 to 49 vote came after Senate Republicans frantically rewrote the multi-trillion dollar legislation behind closed doors to win over several final holdouts, and left congressional Republicans just a few steps away from sending legislation to President Donald Trump’s desk. The House passed its own plan in November.
Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee was the only Republican to oppose the measure, in what’s also a big victory for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who repeatedly fell short in his efforts to push through an Obamacare repeal measure this year.
“I think one reason we were able to get there was because there’s widespread interest,” McConnell said in an interview with POLITICO. “Every single member of our conference wanted to get to yes, and all but one did.”
President Donald Trump praised McConnell and Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch in a tweet after the bill passed, adding, “We are one step closer to delivering MASSIVE tax cuts for working families across America.”
McConnell and GOP leaders were able to score the necessary votes on Friday by acceding to demands by Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and others for expanded tax breaks for small businesses, homeowners and others. That gave leadership the breathing room to reject conflicting demands by Corker and others to rein in the cost of the plan.
Democrats harshly condemned the legislation and the way it came together.
But of course, the Democrats condemned the legislation, they want no part of governing and at this point are so consumed by the mission to avenge Hillary’s loss and their irrational hatred of President Trump, they are about as useless as pieces of furniture.
Some of the early reactions from the sore losers – including those “leadership” figures who helped to establish the idea that the Dems didn’t need to even bother wasting time on issues that actually affect the lives of real Americans. They only pander to the low-skilled, lazy chiselers who are only motivated to vote because they are promised “free” stuff that productive members of society have to pay for.
Let’s start with the supreme commander of the resistance himself:
The Republican Party is the enemy of the American people. The Senate just passed the Trump Tax Increase, 1:50am, enriching the 1% & concentrating wealth in the hands of the few. Capitalism & Fascism. The coup is underway. Make no mistake about it. EVERYONE OFF THE BENCH! 11/6/18!

Now the rest of them who are as worthless as tits on a bull and need to be voted OUT, OUT, OUT!
In my long career in politics, I have not seen a more regressive piece of legislation, so devoid of a rationale, so ill-suited for the condition of the country, so removed from the reality of what the American people need.

In passing the #GOPTaxScam, @SenateGOP has sealed its betrayal of the American middle class. https://t.co/BzuMZJwGx8 http://pic.twitter.com/hkx5mV3qpl
— Nancy Pelosi (@NancyPelosi) December 2, 2017
Tonight the @SenateGOP gave a giant tax break to the rich & left everyone else holding the bag. This is about more than economics – it’s about our values. The Republicans just proved they are morally bankrupt. #GOPTaxScam
— Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren) December 2, 2017
Let’s be clear: what just happened is a brazen move to rig our political system and our economy to work not for “We the People,” but for “We the Powerful.” If the #GOPTaxScam is allowed to become law, it will haunt America for decades to come.
— Senator Jeff Merkley (@SenJeffMerkley) December 2, 2017
Just voted no on the Republican tax plan. Giant cuts for the wealthy & corporations – higher premiums, eventual tax hikes and a trillion added to the national debt for everyone else. Plus a process that laughs in the face of regular order.
— Chris Murphy (@ChrisMurphyCT) December 2, 2017
The #GOPTaxScam promises relief for all, but massive permanent tax cuts go mostly to corporations and the wealthy, while the crumbs to the middle class are small and temporary. It imposes a mountain of debt on our children and grandchildren.
— Richard Blumenthal (@SenBlumenthal) December 2, 2017
The tax plan approved tonight by my Republican colleagues is shameful. This is a victory for corporations and the top 1% of Americans, not teachers, not seniors, and certainly not the middle class.
— Kamala Harris (@SenKamalaHarris) December 2, 2017
I’m furious, but this fight is not over.
In the days and weeks to come, I’ll do everything I possibly can to ensure this embarrassment of a tax bill never becomes law.
— Sen. Cory Booker (@SenBooker) December 2, 2017
The American people deserve to know who’s on their side. Tonight, Senate Republicans gave them a shameful answer.
We will be holding them accountable. This isn’t over—I’m not done fighting like hell. -SB

UPDATE: Republicans rejected our motion to adjourn until Monday so senators could read the bill they just introduced.
RT If you think senators should have time to read a bill that affects every single American.

Perhaps had the Dems spent a bit more time on trying to reach across the aisle instead of holding sham hearings on Russian election meddling they may have been able to get some of their input recognized but tough titty said the kitty.
They have nothing to whine about but their own lack of interest in jobs, affordable health care, lower taxes and any one of hundreds of other issues that matter to real Americans.
And it isn’t fantasies that Russia cheated Hillary out of the White House.
