Each true revolution has its powerful symbols of freedom. The symbol of the current protests in Iran is a woman who took off her hijab.

The woman has since reportedly been arrested, but she has quickly become one of the icons of the anti-government protests. While Western leftists ally with Islamists and glamorizing hijab repression, in Islamic countries, removing the hijab is a form of freedom.

The debate over the hijab is a microcosm of the larger debate about Islam.
