On Tuesday, a Seattle radio station tweeted that it would not air White House briefings dealing with the coronavirus because they exhibited a “pattern of false or misleading information.”
KUOW, which is a part of National Public Radio, tweeted, “KUOW is monitoring White House briefings for the latest news on the coronavirus — and we will continue to share all news relevant to Washington State with our listeners.However, we will not be airing the briefings live due to a pattern of false or misleading information provided that cannot be fact checked in real time.”

Judd Deere, a White House spokesperson, told The Hill, “It’s not surprising, but also a failure of their duty to the American people, that some media outlets would choose to block their audiences from receiving accurate, up-to-date information on President Trump’s whole-of-government approach to slowing the spread of COVID-19 … no other Administration has been as transparent and as accessible as this one, and we will continue to make sure this nation hears from its leaders and top health experts during this global pandemic.”
On Monday, KOUW tweeted its belief that it represented access to the truth, writing, “With the coronavirus outbreak in Washington, access to trusted, vetted information is crucially important. The same day, KUOW seemingly bemoaned the spike in local gun sales at the beginning of March , tweeting, “If there was a point in time when people around #Seattle began to get really nervous about the local COVID-19 outbreak, it could have been the start of March. Last December, KUOW, which has stated of itself that its mission is “to create and serve an informed public, one challenged and invigorated by an understanding and appreciation of events, ideas, and cultures,” ran a headline trumpeting, “Get an extra! Seattleites beeline to newsstands for impeachment history.”
Deadline reported, “The news networks have been covering the briefings live, but CNN and MSNBC cut away from them on Monday, as the event stretched beyond an hour.”
Deputy White House Press Secretary Judd Deere tweeted, “Pretty disgraceful that @CNN and @MSNBC have both cut away from this @White House briefing with @realDonaldTrump and @Mike Pence during a global pandemic. Thank you to @FoxNews for keeping Americans informed.”

Deadline added, “… an MSNBC spokesperson said that ‘after airing the press conference for over an hour we cut away because the information no longer appeared to be valuable to the important ongoing discussion around public health.’ A spokeswoman for CNN said, ‘If the White House wants to ask for time on the network, they should make an official request. Otherwise we will make our own editorial decisions.’”
