Venezuela To Bring More Military Staff To Run State Controlled Oil Company…

When Socialism begins to fail, add more Socialism. Maybe it will work.

Via Reuters:

The general appointed to run Venezuela’s energy sector will bring more military officials into the senior ranks of state oil company PDVSA during a major shakeup intended to root out corruption, two company sources told Reuters on Monday.

Unpopular leftist President Nicolas Maduro on Sunday named Major General Manuel Quevedo to lead PDVSA [PDVSA.UL] and the Oil Ministry, giving the already powerful military more clout in the OPEC nation.

Industry sources said the appointment could quicken a white-collar exodus from PDVSA and worsen operational problems at a time when production has already tumbled to near 30-year lows.

“The order given is to militarize PDVSA in key areas,” said a PDVSA employee, asking to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to speak to media.

A second source said he was told military officials would take over key production divisions in Venezuela’s east and west.

Family Guys ROASTS Internet Leftists With ‘Twitter Outrage’ Episode

“Family Guy” and its creator, Seth MacFarlane, have made no effort to hide that they aren’t fans of the political right. But in last week’s episode, MacFarlane and the “Family Guy” writers took a break from suggesting Republicans are Nazis to pick on a new target: outraged internet leftists.

And they did it — in the words of radio host Steven Crowder — brilliantly.

The episode begins with the show’s resident human-slash-dog, Brian, making a joke about Kevin Hart on Twitter that, inadvertently, sets off a firestorm across the social media platform, with outraged leftists calling for Brian’s head over what they believe is his abject racism.

“About to see the new Kevin Hart movie. Just kidding. I’m white and went to college. #BaywatchMovie”

Soon, an angry crowd shows up at the family’s door demanding that Brian’s life be destroyed for what he thought was merely an off-color joke. He tries to call them off by claiming he’s a bona fide progressive (“I’m so far left, I’m spinning in circles!”) but the crowd refuses to believe him — that is, when he can get the words out. He has to try several times before he manages to find an opening for his statement that fails to earn him more scorn from feminists, transgender individuals and “human basketballs.”

WATCH:

Not content with lambasting progressives once, “Family Guy” even took a second shot at the outraged mob (content warning for this one).

Eventually the whole family finds themselves taking on the internet and winning.

If “Family Guy” is now making fun of progressives, then it may, in fact, mean that politically correct, perpetual outrage culture has finally outlived its usefulness.

Why Killing Net “Neutrality” Is A Good Thing…

Via Washington Examiner:

Sometimes you have to wonder how sincere people are when they gnash their teeth and pull out their hair over President Trump blocking or reversing an Obama-era regulation.

The latest cries of distress about anarchy and market apocalypse can be heard about an announcement by the Federal Communications Commission that it will roll back “net neutrality.”

Net neutrality’s dubious value is made obvious by the misleading way Democrats and many news outlets reported the decision. “F.C.C. plans net neutrality repeal in a victory for telecoms,” wrote the New York Times. Missing from the headline or lede was that the decision was a loss for Netflix, Amazon, Google, and other corporate giants that provider content.

This is the Democratic line. By portraying deregulation as a bonbon for Big Business, and concealing the hit taken by some of the biggest businesses (see above), these partial accounts avoid debating the issue on its merits and dwindle into demagoguery, where they are comfortable. This is an established pattern with net neutrality. When the FCC voted in 2015 to impose net neutrality rules, the text of the relevant order wasn’t published until after the vote.

Aging Brit Punker Morrissey Claims He’d Kill Trump for Sake of Humanity

Trump Derangement Syndrome doesn’t stop at the shoreline and a virulent strain of the mental disorder that has been waging war on the minds of liberals has emerged across the pond.

One of those who has been stricken is aging former punker and pop star Steven Patrick Morrissey aka Morrissey whose long career began with the 1980’s band The Smiths. An unabashed leftist, suspected pole-smoker, militant animal rights activist and Trump hater gave an interview to the German magazine Der Spiegel in which he had some provocative words for the legitimately elected President of the United States.

Mr. Morrissey stated that he would kill Trump for the “sake of humanity” whatever that may mean. He also defended American liberal sex perverts and predators Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey among others.

Via the Washington Free Beacon “Morrissey: I Would Kill Trump ‘For the Safety of Humanity’”:

In an interview with Der Spiegel, British pop star Morrissey defended Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, compared meat consumption to the Holocaust,  and said he’d press a button to kill President Donald Trump.

“If there was a button here and if you pressed on it, Trump would die … would you push it or not?” Der Spiegel asked Morrissey.

“I would, for the safety of humanity. It has nothing to do with my personal opinion of his face or his family, but in the interest of humanity I would push,” Morrissey responded.

The pop star also slammed the American media and said they were helping Trump.

“Whether they criticize him or laugh at him, he does not care, he just wants to see his picture and his name,” he said. “The American media have shot themselves in the leg.”

Trump “has exhausted the world,” Morrissey added. “He grabs after everything like a little child. He is not a leader. He is vermin.”

Morrissey also claimed Berlin, Germany is the “rape capital of the world” because of its “open borders,” and argued eating meat is comparable to the Holocaust.

“If you allow the slaughterhouse to continue, you say: The Holocaust is great. Auschwitz was fantastic. Let us continue. It is exactly the same,” he said.

In recent interview with the Sunday Times, Morrissey repeated his defense of Weinstein and Spacey.

“I hate rape, I hate assault, I hate people being forced into a sexual situation,” he said. “But in quite a few cases, you look at the situation and think that the people being described as victims are simply disappointed. In the whole history of Rock ‘n’ Roll there’ve been musicians who’ve slept with groupies. If you go through the history, almost everyone is guilty of sleeping with minors. Why don’t we throw everyone in jail?”

Normally a foofy celebrity running off at the mouth would be of little concern but at a time when CNN is spreading anti-American sentiment and ISIS is putting out propaganda that they plan to strike Times Square on New Years it really isn’t helping matters when musicians with a huge following suggest that it’s perfectly acceptable to assassinate world leaders.

Isn’t making this sort of statement illegal? Perhaps someone should give INTERPOL a ring.

Top 10 ‘War On Christmas’ Fails Of All Time

We hear the stories every year: the ACLU suing small towns over Nativity displays, “Holiday Tree” lightings, colleges banning religious icons, storefronts wishing us an empty “Happy Holidays,” Lena Dunham being Lena Dunham.

Yet, the moment our ears catch wind of the Left’s all-too-apparent “War on Christmas,” the mainstream media and their “useful idiots” in late-night comedy are already roasting us on an open fire before we can even say “partridge in a pear tree.” Instead of turtle doves and golden rings, we get gaslights and courtroom subpoenas.

Clutch not your candy canes, though. If the Puritans couldn’t do it, if the French Revolutionaries couldn’t do it, if the Nazis couldn’t do it, if the Soviets couldn’t do it, if CBS couldn’t do it, then the party of asses will certainly never rid the world of the joy that is “Christmas.” So long as we have Christ, Christmas will always follow. In the meantime, however, let’s all pull up a chair, sip on some hot cocoa, roast up some chestnuts and ring in the season with a few laughs over the Left’s sorry attempts to transform Christmas into a snowflake’s wonderland.

Here are the Top 10 “War on Christmas” Fails Of All Time:

10.) THE SANTA GLACIER

Back in 2015, two malls in Long Island angered customers after replacing their traditional Santa Claus display with an ugly glacier set that looked like a cross between a cheesy 60’s Sci-fi and Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds. A Christmas brought to you by Gene Roddenberry. Beam me up, Santa.

According to customers, Roosevelt Field Mall and Charlotte SouthPark Mall chose the glacier display in an effort not to “offend” anyone.

“The people who answered the phone at the mall actually said, in order not to offend anyone, they were simplifying the Christmas display,” said one frequent mall patron.

The only two Christmas decorations in the entire display were Santa Claus himself – whose name derives from the dutch word “Sinterklaas,” meaning St. Nicholas – and a plain “Holiday Tree” with absolutely no ornaments or colorful lights.

Thankfully, the customer backlash paid off and management immediately removed the Star Trek-derivative monstrosity and brought back the traditional Christmas display.

9.) FIONA APPLE’S “TRUMP’S NUTS ROASTING ON AN OPEN FIRE” SONG

Following Trump’s epic victory over Hillary Clinton last election, leftists fantasized the new president spending his Christmas with his nuts roasting on an open fire. 90’s pop icon Fiona Apple turned the fantasy into a song with her own “pussyhat” rendition of the Nat King Cole Classic. The lyrics rang out like a social justice warrior’s nightmare of a Trump Christmas.

“Trump’s nuts roasting on an open fire… As he keeps nipping at his foes… You cry creepy uncle every time he arrives… For he keeps clawing at our clothes,” sings Apple before moving on to characterize Trump as a white supremacist Santa Claus intent on locking “black boys in hoodies on his sleigh.”

“Everybody knows some money and entitlement can help to make the season white… Mothers of color with their kids out of sight will find it hard to sleep at night,” she continued. “They know that Trump is on his way… He’s got black boys in hoodies locked up on his sleigh…”

The video concluded with Apple wishing “kids from 1 to 92” a Merry Christmas as she rips a photo of Donald Trump in half.

8.) SALON’S “WHITE PRIVILEGE” TAKE ON “A CHRISTMAS STORY”

It’s one thing to read “It’s A Wonderful Life” as some kind of anti-capitalist swan song to communism, but Salon’s alleging that “A Christmas Story” is some kind of racist vehicle for “white nostalgia” is a bunch of figgy pudding. While the only legit criticism to level against the holiday classic is that quasi-racist Chinese restaurant scene, Salon opts to instead complain about black characters in the “peripheral,” who are shown in a “perfectly inoffensive and neutral fashion.”

This is a perfect depiction of the nonwhite “other,” tailored to the conservative and superficial “color-blind” politics of the post-civil rights era

This is an example of the “white racial frame” in action: People of color are present in a way that does not challenge the cultural and personal psychology of white racial innocence. They are present without being objectionable or intrusive in any way; they present no threat to the way whiteness and memory combine to nurture a nostalgia for a “simpler” time that in actuality did not exist.

No ban on “A Christmas Story” has come as a result of Salon’s ranting. Check out the 24-hour marathon on TCM this year.

7.) SNOWFLAKES SIGN PETITION TO BAN ‘RACIST’ SONG ‘WHITE CHRISTMAS’

Also in 2015, American college students signed a petition to ban the racist song “White Christmas” from playing on radio stations, calling the song an offense to all colored people in its insistence on “white” being associated with the good and the beautiful.

The petition featured Dan Joseph of MCRTV pitching several college students a ban on Bing Crosby’s classic song “White Christmas” from playing on the radio. The students were cajoled with various politically correct tropes like “‘White Christmas’ perpetuates the idea that white is naturally good” while shouting catch-phrases like “white supremacy is everywhere, even in your holiday songs.”

6.) MICHELLE OBAMA’S POLITICALLY CORRECT “NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS”

Last year, Michelle Obama teamed up with Ryan Seacrest for a reading of the beloved Children’s classic “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Following the failure of her “Let’s Move” campaign, the former First Lady had to blast Santa over his penchant for pipe tobacco:

‘The stump of a pipe’ — Uh, I think St. Nick gave up smoking. This was a long time back… but way back in the day, ‘The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, and the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.

Seacrest later fat-shamed the jolly red man: “‘He had a broad face and a little round belly that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.’ — I mean this as a compliment — ‘He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.’”

5.) THE DENVER NON-PROFIT THAT DISTRIBUTED JOINTS FOR CHRISTMAS

That famous song lyric “Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight” took on a whole other meaning in 2015 when the nonprofit Canabis Can in Denver, Colorado, distributed to the homeless population a gift that would surely make them see Santa and his flying reindeer on Christmas eve: thousands of pre-rolled marijuana joints. The stunt was supposedly an attempt to raise awareness about homeless, unaware that drug addiction is one of the main culprits for homelessness in the first place.

“‘Merry Christman, Happy Cannamas — would you like some rolling papers for tobacco?” the Cannabis Can founder said in mockery of his critics.

Of all the people to spend Christmas with, Cheech & Chong are not on the top of the list.

4.) GAY INTERRACIAL SANTAS

According to the Left, Santa can neither be fat nor can he smoke pipe tobacco nor can he be a white man, but he can be in a gay relationship and even further increase his woke factor by having a black husband. Released in October by Harper’s Design, the book “Santa’s Husband” tells the incredible story of “a black Santa Claus and his white husband who both live in the North Pole.” TIME noted that in the book “Santa’s spouse frequently fills in for his husband at malls.”

Written by Daniel Kibblesmith of the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the book was intended to be a parody to mock conservatives.

3.) “FROSTY RETURNS”

Not even the vocal talents of John Goodman and Brian Doyle Murray could save this politically-correct propaganda piece in “Frosty the Snowman” drag. Back in 1992, CBS predated George Lucas in the ruining of childhood classics department when they released an abysmal sequel to the Rankin-Bass animated classic that mentioned neither the words Christmas nor Santa, not even employing the beloved song until the end credits.

It was here that CBS morphed Frosty from a fantastical character into some wintery version of “Smokey the Bear,” serving up environmentalist messages about the harmful effects of aerosol spray. In Soviet commissar-approved fashion, the program strips Frosty of all his Christmas roots while having him sing vague tunes about the beauty of snow. Instead of a Christmas festival, we get the generic “Winter Carnival.” Instead of the jealous magician out to steal his hat back, we get a capitalist magnate set to poison the environment.

Audiences largely rejected “Frosty Returns,” which now holds a pathetic 5.0 rating on IMDB. But that doesn’t CBS stopped from airing it once a year.

2.) CBS FAILED CENSORING “A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS”

It might surprise you, but that iconic moment in the 1965 classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” where Linus recites Luke’s Gospel to explain the true meaning of Christmas, almost made it to the cutting room floor. Despite “Peanuts” creator Charles Schultz’s insistence that religion be the focal point of his piece, producers and CBS executives were not exactly excited to get so faith-based. The logic was that Linus’s speech would scare off advertisers and narrow the audience. Schultz would eventually prevail and the special has remained unedited since … unless certain middle-schools have anything to say about it.

1.) WAPO BLAMES VIRGIN MARY FOR SHAMING RAPE VICTIMS

It was not an Onion article, but a full-blown assault on the Virgin Mary by Presbyterian pastor Rev. Ruth Everhart, who argued in a WaPo op-ed that the Mother of Christ’s purity offends rape victims. Everhart took offense over the “good girl” image projected by Mary, saying it puts an unfair burden on women, especially rape victims.

“Church culture tends to be fixated on sexual purity year-round, but during Advent, I’m tempted to blame it on the Virgin Mary,” she wrote. “After all, she set an impossibly high bar. Now the rest of us are stuck trying to be both a virgin and a mother at the same time. It does not seem to matter that this is biologically impossible.”

Feminists have always had a particular hatred of the Virgin Mary over the very fact she contributed to the salvation of mankind by bearing a child in her womb. It is fitting that WaPo elected to attack her in the height of Advent.

Have a holly jolly Christmas this year!

Sarah Huckabee Sanders TORCHES Fake Indian Elizabeth Warren (VIDEO)

Fearless warrior Sarah Huckabee Sanders absolutely torched fake Indian Elizabeth Warren after the liberal press pool came unglued over Trump’s ‘Pocahontas’ slam.

Fake Indian Elizabeth Warren got super triggered after President Trump slammed her Monday calling her Pocahontas while honoring Native American code talkers.

“You were here long before any of us were here. Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas,” Trump told Native American code talkers during a ceremony.

Liberals came unhinged!

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders torched fake Indian Elizabeth Warren after the press pool implied President Trump was being “offensive” and used a “racial slur” when he slammed Pocahontas for lying about her Native American heritage.

“I think what most people find offensive is Senator Warren lying about her heritage to advance her career,” Sanders said.

Trump to Allow Gun Collectors to Purchase Military Surplus M1911 Pistols

Included in the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act, which President Donald Trump intends to sign soon, is a provision that will allow the military to save an estimated $200,000 per year by selling surplus M1911 pistols to those in the public interested in purchasing them.

Used widely during World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, these historic firearms have been officially out of service since 1985, when the military replaced them with Beretta 92 pistols.

Since then, the military has been forced to store leftover M1911 pistols at a price of $2 per year. The International Business Times reported that the military currently possesses roughly 100,000 of these pistols, bringing the price for storage to about $200,000 every single year.

By allowing the military to sell these firearms to the public, Trump will therefore kill two stones with one bird: He’ll save the Pentagon money while also putting a smile on the faces of many gun collectors.

According to Task & Purpose, there’s a lot of history intertwined with the M1911 pistol: “For more than a hundred years, (it) has traveled with American troops into almost every crisis, hot spot, and war the United States has participated in.”

TRENDING: Moore Accuser Is Guilty of Laundry List of Fraud Charges

Militarily speaking, though, it’s not much use anymore for our men and women in uniform due to its very antiquated design.

“The new generation of polymer guns such as the Glock are also much easier to disassemble and incorporate new features such as striker-fired operating systems, trigger safeties, loaded chamber indicators and larger magazines capacities,” Task & Purpose notes.

Dovetailing back to the 2018 NDAA, which includes an amendment authorizing the government-funded Civilian Marksmanship Program to sell these pistols, it’s actually Congress that deserves most of the credit for both crafting it and then later passing it in mid-November.

And though it pains me to admit this, former President Barack Obama deserves an iota of credit as well.

The NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action explained that the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act passed by Obama two years ago “authorized the Secretary of Defense to transfer 1911s no longer in service to the CMP for public sale.”

Here’s the catch: “That language made the transfers subject to the Secretary’s discretion and capped them at 10,000 per year. Unsurprisingly, no actual transfers were made under the program while Obama remained in the White House.”

Of course.

However, the NDAA slated to be signed by Trump would make these transfers mandatory and also remove the unnecessary cap.

RELATED: Obama’s Untouchable “Watchdog” Agency Moves to Hobble Trump

What remains unclear is when the sales will begin and how exactly the M1911s will be sold:

11/22/17 – Latest update on the 1911’s…..
Because of the limited number and the exceedingly high demand for the pistol,…

Posted by Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) on Wednesday, November 22, 2017

What’s known, though, is that the CMP’s eligibility requirements are pretty strict, so in case you’re interested in securing an M1911 pistol, I’d start getting my paperwork ready now.

Claire McCaskill Took Action to Hide Travel on Private Plane From Public

Sen. Claire McCaskill

Sen. Claire McCaskill / Getty Images

BY:

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D., Mo.) took action earlier this year to make her family’s private plane untrackable by the public, according to documents obtained from the Federal Aviation Administration.

McCaskill garnered much criticism ahead of her last reelection campaign over her use of a private jet at taxpayer expense that she demanded her husband “sell the damn plane.” But they bought a new, more expensive plane shortly after she won that election. Now, as she gears up for her next election fight, they have taken action to limit scrutiny of the plane’s use.

The company hired by McCaskill to operate the plane, a 2009 Pilatus PC-12/47E, wrote to the FAA earlier this year in April to ask that tracking information on the plane be blocked from the public, according to email records obtained by the Washington Free Beacon through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Prior to 2013, private aircraft owners or operators had to present a “certified security concern” to the FAA if they wanted to block their aircraft data from public display on websites such as FlightAware.com, where McCaskill’s plane could be tracked as recently as this year. However, changes made during the Obama administration removed this requirement and “make the aircraft blocking process as simple as possible.”

Representatives for McCaskill did not respond to multiple inquiries into the reason for the request and whether it had to do with her upcoming election.

The Washington Free Beacon reported in October that McCaskill had spent nearly $21,000 to use her private plane on the campaign trail in just three months. McCaskill was also spotted using her private plane in August for travel between town halls she held in Missouri, which are events held by her official Senate office.

McCaskill also failed to respond to request for comment on those trips.

An FAA representative told the Washington Free Beacon it remains uncommon for plane owners or operators to request flight information be blocked, despite the eased process.

The plane is owned through TLG Aviation LLC, a business entity held by McCaskill and her husband valued at over $1 million on the senator’s personal financial disclosure form for the fiscal year 2016.

The campaign payments were made to Aero Charter, a company based out of a small two-runway airport located near McCaskill’s home in the St. Louis suburbs that offers an aircraft management service for private plane owners.

Aero Charter’s vice president for operations wrote the April email to the FAA requesting that flight data be blocked for McCaskill’s plane.

Aero Charter has told the Washington Free Beacon it was unable to comment on its clients.

Donor records from McCaskill’s campaign previously revealed it brought in a $1,000 contribution from a top Aero Charter executive as the campaign was directing payments to the company for operation of the plane.

McCaskill has already this year been asked questions by reporters about her plane after she said during a town hall that “normal people can afford” to travel by private plane. McCaskill took the comment back during a conversation with the Washington Free Beacon, saying it is “of course not” a normal thing.

Republicans dubbed McCaskill  “Air Claire” and put footage of her boarding her private jet into campaign ads during her previous campaign.

MSNBC host says rural Americans’ voting power is a ‘threat to our democracy’

MSNBC host Joy Reid made waves over the weekend when she tweeted that the voting power of rural Americans was the ‘core threat to our democracy.’

I’m sorry, what did she say?

The exchange began when MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin tweeted a Wall Street Journal piece that claimed that by the year 2040, over 70 percent of Americans will live in the largest 15 states, meaning that 70 percent of Americans will be represented by 30  senators, and 30 percent of Americans will be represented by 70 senators.

Reid responded to this tweet by noting that this disparity was a threat to American democracy:

Does she have a point?

The Wall Street Journal’s analysis says it is based on a prediction by David Birdsell, dean of the school of public and international affairs at Baruch College in New York City. However, Birdsell’s prediction does not appear to have been based on an actual scientific study. Birdsell’s prediction has been frequently quoted online, but it appears to be based on nothing more than a guesstimate from a political science professor, as opposed to any rigorous social analysis.

However, even if it were based on an actual scientific analysis, analyses of population migration trends are fickle. Previous historical predictions about migration to inner cities were foiled when suburban migration began. Then, unexpectedly, predictions about the continuing pace of suburban migration were foiled when Americans began moving back into cities in the last decade.

The truth is that no one can accurately predict the future of population distribution.

But even if Birdsell’s prediction is correct, it isn’t a new phenomenon or something the founders were unaware of. As of the 1790 census, 74 percent of America’s population lived in the seven largest states, which means that America’s population has always been concentrated in larger states, since the time of its founding.

The writers of the Constitution were certainly aware of this fact when the Constitution was drafted. It was the principal reason for the Connecticut Compromise, which is widely credited with having saved the entire Constitution.

In other words. Reid is not objecting to a threat to American constitutional democracy. She’s objecting to a central feature of American constitutional democracy — a central feature that has been present since the founding of the country.

NYC Fire Victim: Counting Your Blessings When You Lose Everything

NYC Fire Victim: Counting Your Blessings When You Lose Everything

We are a society that values and cherishes stuff. Things. Memories. Ask any household in America and I bet they would say they wish they could get rid of some, but the memories they have stored away are so much more important than more space. You don’t really realize how important these things are to you until they are taken from you, sometimes unexpectedly and harshly.

The recent six-alarm fire in New York City in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood did just that to me; I watched from afar as my building, and my things, and my memories from a lifetime of collecting, were burned and washed away.  It is one thing to value the things you have kept; it is another to be forced to reckon with the things you have lost and now have left.

I was devastated when the news came that my home was now uninhabitable. Thankfully I am safe, as are all my roommates and other tenants in the building, but we lost everything. It is a feeling I have never experienced before, a sort of hollowing out of yourself. I was numb, unable to believe that the things I had surrounded myself with, a protective cocoon of memories and love, could be gone forever. My childhood collection of Calvin and Hobbes; a photo of my beloved grandmother, Mimi. Things that I thought I would never lose and would never have to account for not having as a presence in my life.

But, in a bit of surreal timing, it happened right before Thanksgiving. I am home, surrounded by my closest loved ones, nieces and nephews that shower me with love, and am aware of how blessed I am.

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming. One of my best friends started a fundraiser for us and I am, at this very moment, wearing a donated sweater from a network of moms in Brooklyn, organized by a friend, that responded like a critical response unit to this tragedy and as they have done so for other people in times of need.

The Red Cross has been a blessing, present and responsive, pointing us in the direction of housing assistance, providing us with emergency funds for necessities, and assuring us they would see us all the way through the process into a new living situation.

City Council member Mark Levine, representative to District 7, hosted a dinner in order to give everyone a warm meal, aware of how close to the holidays this was and how that would hit home for many particularly hard. The Public Advocate’s office distributed care packages to people from the community.

In a particular instance that deserves praise, a firefighter passing by from Ladder 48 helped us as best he could to get us back into the building, my roommate desperately needing his ID to travel home for Christmas.

In every one of these instances, people have shown that no matter our credo, no matter our ethnicity, they were willing to extend a helping hand, stretch their already scarce resources, to accommodate those in need.

These moments of love and support from people, some I haven’t heard from in years, has been one of the purest examples of love and gratitude I could imagine.

In each of the above examples, and I am sure there are countless more, people have put others before themselves. They have made sure that strangers are comforted in a harrowing time.

The things we have in our lives, the stuff we buy and surround ourselves with can be whisked away in a blink of an eye. This holiday season, be thankful for the special people and connections you have in your life. Be appreciative, every day, of the wonderful blessing that is love and friendship.

Brennan Lowery is an actor currently on tour with the Education Theater’s production of Beauty and the Beast.
