Freedom Caucus Chair Mark Meadows Demands Documents From Rosenstein: ‘The DOJ Can’t Be Trusted to Investigate Themselves’
Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) said the Justice Department cannot be trusted to investigate themselves and demanded Rosenstein turn over pertinent Trump-Russia documents to Congress.
As previously reported by TGP’s Kristinn Taylor, President Trump tweeted Sunday afternoon he is ordering the Justice Department to investigate whether the Obama administration spied on his 2016 presidential campaign.
The order comes on the heels of leaks to the New York Times and Washington Post that the Obama administration had an “informant” make several approaches to three Trump campaign officials, included one that involved an offer of cash and another an offer to “advise” the campaign.
Trump tweeted: I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!

On Sunday evening, the Justice Department asked Inspector General Horowitz to investigate whether there was “impropriety or political motivation” into the FBI’s infiltration of Trump’s campaign.
Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows doesn’t believe the DOJ can be trusted to investigate themselves and blasted Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein.
Mark Meadows tweeted: This is the right call from @realDonaldTrump–we’ve seen disturbing evidence that the FBI engaged in political targeting.
But the DOJ can’t be trusted to investigate themselves–Congress needs the documents too. Rod Rosenstein: where are the documents? Show Americans the truth.

President Trump, Rep. Mark Meadows and other members of the Freedom Caucus are on the front lines fighting the Deep State while AG Sessions is AWOL.
On Wednesday, with the backing of Rep. Ron DeSantis and Rep. Jim Jordan, Rep. Meadows sent President Trump a letter requesting he use his Presidential powers to instruct AG Sessions to declassify and release ALL FISA abuse documents and the unredacted Rosenstein memo detailing Mueller’s scope.
“In the year that has passed since these committments were made, the Department of Justice has failed to fully comply with regular and repeated Congressional requests and subpoenas. Our power as Congress to conduct investigations is broad, inherent and mandated by the Constitution. As a separate and equal branch of government, we have a constitutional right to these documents,” Meadows said in his letter to President Trump.
Rep. Meadows requested documents related to FISA abuses, documents related to the initial investigation into Trump’s camp before the Special Counsel was appointed, and the unredacted August 2nd memo penned by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein detailing Mueller’s scope.
Chairman Meadows is correct. The leaky DOJ cannot be trusted to investigate themselves; the American people deserve answers.
