ICE Chief Tells Democrat Lawmaker: Don’t Call Law Enforcement ‘Anti-Immigrant’ For Following Laws ‘You All Enacted’

That was then, this is now.

Via Washington Examiner:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief Thomas Homan slammed a Democratic lawmaker during a House hearing Tuesday after she accused his agency of demonizing people who have illegally entered the country.

“We love to talk about this issue of MS-13 gangs. We love to paint immigrants as criminals. That is not the complete facts and that is very offensive for me to see continuing to happen,” Rep. Nanette Barragan, D-Calif., said during a House Homeland Security subcommittee hearing on border and maritime issues.

“It makes me sick to my stomach to keep hearing over and over again, painting the broad stroke and the picture as though these are folks who are coming here to do harm,” Barragan said.

Homan, who was not questioned following her remarks, asked for a chance to respond to Barragan’s initial statement.

“First of all, no one on this panel is anti-immigrant. We’re law enforcement officers enforcing the laws that you all enacted. So to sit there and say that we’re anti-immigrant is wrong. We are enforcing laws,” said Homan, acting ICE director. “If you think it’s OK to enter this country illegally — you shouldn’t be arrested, that’s just wrong. The laws clearly state, ‘You enter here illegally, it is a crime.’”

Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” (which is a set of guidelines for radicals and disruptors) is followed religiously by the Left. Liberals make up the Left’s core and to them, the writings of Alinsky is their Bible, possibly the only Bible that some of them know.

Somali Muslim Immigrants Stealing MILLIONS in Welfare from Minnesota
They came to the U.S. as supposed “refugees,” but now it has been discovered that a number of Somali immigrants are stealing hundreds of millions in American welfare money that they are literally shipping back to Africa stuffed in suitcases. Worse, the cash is going to fund the various Islamist terror armies there.

Dem Gun Confiscator Tacitly Admits Gun Control Wouldn’t Work
One of the more despicable Congress-critters is Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a man with utter contempt for Truth. He was on Tucker Carlson Tonight last evening pushing for confiscation of AR-type rifles and spinning like a dervish with rocket boosters. But let’s forget that while Swalwell wrote an op-ed calling for gun confiscation, it’s not really confiscation, according to Swalwell. Let’s forget that what he labels “assault weapons” are just semi-automatic rifles that happen to have a military-style appearance (much like putting a Porsche body on a Hugo chassis).

WATCH: Tomi Lahren Gives Perfect Response To Being Attacked At Restaurant

After video of classless restaurant patrons throwing a drink at her and screaming foul insults went viral, conservative commentator Tomi Lahren addressed the ugly incident on Fox News.

Speaking with “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning, Lahren said that while she’s “a person too” and gets “humiliated and embarrassed” just like anyone else, the only people who will end up looking back on this in humiliation are the people who attacked her. “I think their parents raised them better,” she said.

The incident took place over the weekend while Lahren was having brunch with her parents in a restaurant in Minneapolis. A group of patrons at the restaurant approached Lahren and unloaded on her with a barrage of insults, including “b****,” “c***,” and “racist” and threw a glass of water at her. Videos of the incident, proudly posted by one woman who celebrated the actions of the people, went viral.

“We were just enjoying brunch after I did a show the night before,” Lahren told “Fox & Friends.” “Unfortunately, there was a group of people around my age that thought it would be funny to throw water at me and then start chanting profanity. And, again, it’s something that I’m not used to but really disheartening.”

Lahren noted that when one of the people threw water at her, it hit her mom, too. “This was something that was embarrassing for me and embarrassing for my family,” she said. “At the end of the day, I’m a person too, and I do get humiliated and embarrassed, just like anyone else. But I’m tough; my family’s tough. We can handle it.”

“I think that those who threw the water and that were plotting and laughing about it, wanted to get their 15 minutes of fame by making a video of me. I think, looking back, those are the people that are going to be embarrassed by their actions. I think their parents raised them better.”

She continued: “And, furthermore, you don’t have to like me, you don’t have to agree with my political opinions, but you don’t have the right to throw things at me. Is that the point we’ve gotten in this country, where you can’t agree with someone civilly without resorting to something like that? It’s really disheartening, but, again, I’m tough; I can handle it. There are those out there that might not have as thick as skin, and that’s the people that I worry about.”

The hosts pointed out that many on the other side of the political spectrum have come to her defense, including Kathy Griffin.

HOW TO DESTROY A MAJOR CITY: One Week After Passing Massive Head Tax, Seattle Democrats Consider Huge Property Tax Increase

One week after passing a head tax on major businesses located in Seattle, including Amazon, Microsoft and Starbucks, the Seattle City Council is now considering an enormous property tax on the people who work at those businesses. According to Q13 FOX, King County homeowners already saw a bump of 17 percent in their property taxes in 2017, but City Council members want property taxes increased even more:

Council members Lorena Gonzalez and Rob Johnson are sponsoring the measure, which states the council wants to lift the limit on regular property taxes in order to levy additional taxes… In 2014, Seattle voters approved a $58 million levy allowing low-income kids to go to preschool for free. Since 2015, the city says the program has allowed affordable or free preschool to 850 families. Now the city wants to send hundreds more to preschool. Mayor Jenny Durkan’s Office is also pushing to send high school graduates to community college for free.

The property tax would amount to, on average, more than another $250 per year for homeowners.

The homelessness problem in Seattle has continued to snowball (as John Stossel and Maxim Lott point out at Reason.com, Seattle’s building code is 745 pages, and the residential building code is another 685 pages); the Seattle City Council has focused far more on “road diets” – narrowing roads via bike lanes – than on the quality of traffic; King County has spent billions on useless light rail. But now they want to bust homeowners’ wallets again – after instituting a $15 minimum wage and a head tax.

This is how Leftist governance destroys thriving major cities. First, you create building codes. That raises rents. Then you increase minimum wage to compensate. That drives out small businesses. Then you tax the big businesses to compensate. So they leave. Then you tax homeowners to compensate. So they leave. Eventually, bad governance based on good intentions crushes growth. But so long as members of the Seattle City Council feel good about themselves, that’s what truly matters.

Trump Admin. Plans to Keep Cutting Burdensome Regulations

BY:

The Trump administration is set for another year of regulation trimming, according to federal “regulatory czar” Neomi Rao, who outlined her office’s Spring 2018 agenda for regulatory actions to the Free Beacon.

Rao is the Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), which has since the Clinton administration been responsible for managing federal regulations with a significant economic or political impact. Twice a year, OIRA releases an agenda for expected regulatory and deregulatory actions, culled from the proposals of other executive branch offices.

“This spring agenda shows that this administration is well on its way to having another very strongly deregulatory year. There are a lot of new deregulatory actions from the agencies, and we expect that those are going to result in some pretty substantial cost savings,” Rao said.

Deregulation has been a major priority of the current administration since day one. Shortly after taking office, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on “Reducing Regulation and Controlling Regulatory Costs.” Therein, Trump expressly stipulated that for every new regulation issued, two previously created regulations would need to be cut.

Rao, who previously founded and ran the Center for the Study of the Administrative State at George Mason University, was brought on as administrator of OIRA to carry out Trump’s vision. By all accounts, she has been successful at trimming the size of the bureaucracy: The White House estimated that in its first year it cut 22 regulations for every new one it imposed. This saved taxpayers eight billion dollars over fiscal year 2017 alone, Rao said.

This rollback was a total about-face from the Obama administration, the Free Beacon’s Elizabeth Harrington noted, which issued a regulation every three days.

“If you look historically across administrations of both parties, regulatory costs have increased over time. This is a dramatic turn around. We’re changing the ordinary inertia at agencies that just favor more regulation,” Rao said.

According to Rao, the new deregulatory agenda focuses on several key areas. Infrastructure, a key priority of the administration, is front and center, with much proposed deregulation focusing on easing environmental burdens on new infrastructure projects. These include regulatory changes under the Clean Water Act and National Environmental Policy Act, as well a proposal from the nuclear regulatory commission to ease the licensing process for new nuclear reactors.

In addition, the administration intends to pursue deregulatory actions that will encourage private initiative in technological innovation. The Department of Transportation is expected to float new rules about drones, expanding the bounds on air space they can use. Additionally, Rao expects to see deregulation in the private space flight industry, likely a response to major strides by firms like SpaceX.

The Trump administration’s deregulatory actions are at least in part responsible for the soaring stock market and record-high job market optimism. The New York Times conceded as much in January, noting that, “A wave of optimism has swept over American business leaders … the newfound confidence was initially inspired by the Trump administration’s regulatory pullback, not so much because deregulation is saving companies money but because the administration has instilled a faith in business executives that new regulations are not coming.”

Right to Try Passes House, Trump Expected to Sign

The U.S. House passed Right to Try legislation on Tuesday that gives the terminally ill access to experimental drugs showing efficacy in clinical trials but not yet approved by the FDA.

The bill now awaits President Donald Trump’s signature and he has indicated he will sign it.

The House passed the legislation by a vote of 250-169, largely along party lines, though 22 Democrats voted with Republicans to pass the bill. All the no votes were Democrats.

"This legislation, introduced only last week, is an egregious attempt by a libertarian think tank to undermine the ‘gold standard’ drug approval process at the Food and Drug Administration," said Rep. Frank Pallone (D., NJ) on the House floor.

"The supporters of this bill claim to be helping desperate patients who are looking for hope.  If this is such a patient centered bill—why does every major patient organization overwhelmingly oppose it?" Pallone said.

Opponents of the bill include patient advocacy groups, which sent a letter on Monday that they strongly opposed the bill, saying it could "increase the likelihood of our patients being harmed by unsafe and ineffective experimental therapies."

Other lawmakers were elated that Right to Try passed Congress, saying it restores freedom and hope to the terminally ill.

"The House voted to restore just a little bit of freedom, a little bit of hope to terminal patients and their families," said Sen. Ron Johnson (R., Wis.) in a press conference last night. He called it a "really big day" and thanked numerous colleagues and the terminally ill who pushed for the passage of the bill. He called the terminally ill and their families the "real heroes."

Johnson was instrumental in the past several years in the push for Right to Try. The U.S. Senate passed the legislation in August.

Advocates indicated the legislation is common sense and gives those who have exhausted all other options another chance.

"This is an extraordinarily great day," said Sen. Joe Donnelly (D., Ind). "You can even hear the joy when this passed, and the excitement and the happiness." Donnelly indicated the "biggest stars on the team" to the bill’s passage were the families of the terminally ill.

"I feel humbled to be a part of this. This is what we’re supposed to do as legislators, is to listen to our folks, to try to make good legislation that makes people’s lives better and makes America stronger, and I was privileged to be a part of this," said Donnelly.

The House effort was led by Rep. Andy Biggs (R., Ariz) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R., Pa.).

"After years of debate, discussion and negotiation, tonight, the House of Representatives showed what has always been clear to me and those I represent: that the Right to Try is a common sense, bipartisan measure that gives American patients and families facing an unimaginable situation the opportunity to fight for their lives or the lives of their loved one," said Fitzpatrick in a statement.

According to Fitzpatrick, "the benefits far outweigh the risks" for the terminally ill.

FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb in a tweet indicated he would implement Right to Try if passed as intended by Congress and will promote access and also protect patients.

The Goldwater Institute, the think tank which crafted the policy on both the state and federal levels, called the vote a "win" for patients.

"Millions of Americans who have been told they are out of options and it’s time to get their affairs in order, are closer to having the opportunity for one last treatment, without having to get permission from the federal government first," said Victor Riches, president & CEO of the Goldwater Institute, in a statement.

AP Reveals Contempt for Texas in Post-Santa Fe Shooting Coverage

Two recent Associated Press dispatches have exposed how out of touch two of its reporters are with the dominant Second Amendment-defending views of voters and politicians in Texas.

They also are flummoxed that most of the students who survived Friday’s school shooting in Santa Fe haven’t turned into rabid gun-control advocates.

In an early Monday morning report, the AP’s Will Weissert and Jim Vertuno headlined and virtually decried how Friday’s school shooting in Santa Fe “may not bring change to gun-loving Texas”:

APonTexasGunControlProspects052018

The obvious undercurrent is “What’s wrong with these people in Texas”?

Addressing the underlined items individually:

  • The 1.2 million open-carry stat gives readers unaware of Texas’s decades of explosive population growth the impression that the state is still a 19th century Wild West culture, even though that number represents less than 6 percent of all Lone Star State’s adults.
  • Weissert and Vertuno appear to have borrowed verbiage from the New York Times, which, in a Sunday evening report appearing on Monday’s front page covered by NewsBusters’ Scott Whitlock, described Texas as “a place where guns are hard-wired into the state’s psyche.”
  • A later AP sentence grudgingly noted:

AP2onTexasGunControlProspects052018

Actually, as Powerline’s John Hinderaker observed on Monday, “Those measures certainly would have been ineffective.”

The sentence especially when corrected, begs an obvious question: Why should these roundtable discussions waste time on ideas that the AP reporters themselves acknowledged wouldn’t have worked? They’ve essentially admitted but still can’t fully process the idea that focusing on “boosting security” would make far more sense.

  • (Final two items) The contempt, rephrased, is now, “What’s wrong with these Santa Fe students?” As to Parkland, the idea that a group of high school kids “led” the gun-control lobbying campaign and acted entirely on their own is absurd. Of course, they were presented as the face of the campaign, but the far-left Buzzfeed acknowledged that they had the financial and PR backing of “some of the largest organizing groups in the country.”

Early Tuesday, Vertuno authored a similarly headlined but separate piece containing much of the same verbiage. Vertuno extended the quote from Cal Jillson, the prof cited in the Monday dispatch, who complained that “Even the young people from Santa Fe are not full-throated advocates of gun control to keep the children safe.”

Actually, as the Times story covered by Whitlock noted, they overwhelmingly oppose the gun-control measures being pushed by the left. While the Times quoted several students’ positions, Vertuno provided only one:

APstory2onTexasGunControlProspects052218

Vertuno’s lament:

APstory2Item2TexasGunControlProspects052218

Apparently the only “changes” the AP reporter would consider “major” are ones that restrict Second Amendment rights — even though they wouldn’t have done anything to prevent the Santa Fe massacre.
