Trump Administration Pays Tribute on Cuban Independence Day, Knocks Communist Regime

President Donald Trump released a message on Sunday commemorating Cuban Independence Day and took aim at the country’s communist regime.

The United States held control over Cuba following the Spanish-American War, however, it became an independent country on May 20, 1902. In 1959, Communists led by Fidel Castro took control of the country.

"The twentieth of May marks the celebration of Cuban independence won by patriots who wished for individual freedom and the right of self-determination, both of which have been tragically snuffed out by a tired Communist regime," the message said. "Regardless, the brave people of Cuba continue to work—under continued oppression and extraordinarily difficult circumstances—to provide for their families and to restore human and civil rights."

The messaged honored the Cuban leaders that led Cuba to its independence.

"The names of great Cuban leaders who fought for independence, such as José Martí and Antonio Maceo, echo through history alongside names like Washington and Jefferson," the message said. "The legacy of these leaders continues to inspire and encourage all peoples to remain committed to the fight for democracy and the restoration of political, economic, and religious freedoms."

Trump finished his message saying he hopes for Cuba to be free again.

"To the people of Cuba who yearn for true freedom, and to the Cuban-Americans who reside in the United States, Melania and I send our warmest wishes. On this special day, we remember the Cuban patriots who lit a flame of freedom that will never be fully extinguished as long as men and women can dream of a better tomorrow," Trump’s message said. "Let us recommit ourselves to a better, freer future for the Cuban people."

Former President Barack Obama worked to reestablish formal relations between the United States and Cuba, by making a presidential visit and by opening an embassy in Cuba.  However, there have been attacks on American diplomats at the embassy in Cuba and human rights have yet to improve for the Cuban people.

Parents outraged over moment of silence at school for dead Hamas members

Parents of students at an elite New York city public school are outraged over a student’s request over the school’s PA system for a moment of silence to remember Hamas members killed in an attack on Israel’s border last week.

New York Post:

The school-wide announcement Tuesday stunned some students and has outraged parents who question why the school is entering into the divisive Palestinian-Israeli conflict with what they see as an anti-Jewish bent.

“I am extremely upset because I did not send my child to a New York City public school to pray for Hamas operatives,” said one father, who is Jewish.

Violence erupted along Israel’s border with Gaza Monday on the same day as the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem. A Hamas leader said two days later that 50 of the 62 people killed belonged to the militant Islamic group which rules Gaza, and the rest were “from the people.”

The US, which has labeled Hamas a terrorist organization, has stood by Israel in the wake of the killings and criticism of the Israeli response.

“I just don’t think any school should be promoting a moment of silence for terrorists. What if it was Islamic terrorists in ISIS?” said one student’s mother, who is Jewish. “No school would be having that over the loudspeaker.”

No one can be that ignorant, can they? Hamas admitted that 50 of the dead were members of the terrorist group.

“As a Jewish student, I could see a lot of my Jewish friends get very weird when the moment of silence started,” Sophie Steinberg, a junior from Brooklyn, said about Tuesday’s tribute.

“They don’t know how to feel. They don’t know how to fit into all of this.” Steinberg said the contemplative moment was not out of place at Beacon.

“I think that’s Beacon’s nature — to not be divisive but to bring up the things that no one wants to talk about,” she said.

The principal at the school, Ruth Lacy, has refused all comment to the media and refuses to explain how a student was allowed to commandeer the PA system for the purpose of honoring terrorists.

She has also been unresponsive to parents queries about the incident.

Maybe she hopes it will all go away if she ignores it. Who knows? She might have even put the student up to it. Anything is possible when a deducated leftist is placed in a position where they can influence young minds.

I know what my reaction would have been; I would have immediately called for the principal’s resignation and suspended the student who made the rancid announcement.

Instead, the teacher is likely to be celebrated on the left and the kid who called for a moment of silence to feel sorry for 50 dead terrorists will become a hero.

An honest Democrat, savages deep state, Mueller probe

Today’s read of the day comes from a Democrat who has broken with the corruptocrats that are leading his party to ruin.

Mark Penn was Bill Clinton’s pollster and adviser during his presidency, including during his impeachment. He is also a passionate critic of the deep state’s attempts to unseat or at minimum delegitimize Donald Trump as president.  His latest column for the Hill, Penn lays out with passion the stakes for all Americans.

Here is a sample:

The “deep state” is in a deep state of desperation. With little time left before the Justice Department inspector general’s report becomes public, and with special counsel Robert Mueller having failed to bring down Donald Trump after a year of trying, they know a reckoning is coming.

At this point, there is little doubt that the highest echelons of the FBI and the Justice Department broke their own rules to end the Hillary Clinton“matter,” but we can expect the inspector general to document what was done or, more pointedly, not done. It is hard to see how a year-long investigation of this won’t come down hard on former FBI Director James Comey and perhaps even former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who definitely wasn’t playing mahjong in a secret “no aides allowed” meeting with former President Clinton on a Phoenix airport tarmac. (snip)

Flush with 16 prosecutors, including a former lawyer for the Clinton Foundation, and an undisclosed budget, the Mueller investigation has been a scorched-earth effort to investigate the entirety of the Trump campaign, Trump business dealings, the entire administration and now, if it was not Russia, maybe it’s some other country.

The president’s earlier legal team was naive in believing that, when Mueller found nothing, he would just end it. Instead, the less investigators found, the more determined and expansive they became. This president and his team now are on a better road to put appropriate limits on all this.

This process must now be stopped, preferably long before a vote in the Senate. Rather than a fair, limited and impartial investigation, the Mueller investigation became a partisan, open-ended inquisition that, by its precedent, is a threat to all those who ever want to participate in a national campaign or an administration again.

Like Pat Caddell, Doug Schoen, and a few other Democrat sages, Mark Penn sees the dead end the party he has worked for most of his adult life is hurtling down.

Freedom Caucus Chair Mark Meadows Demands Documents From Rosenstein: ‘The DOJ Can’t Be Trusted to Investigate Themselves’

Freedom Caucus Chair Mark Meadows Demands Documents From Rosenstein: ‘The DOJ Can’t Be Trusted to Investigate Themselves’

Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) said the Justice Department cannot be trusted to investigate themselves and demanded Rosenstein turn over pertinent Trump-Russia documents to Congress.

As previously reported by TGP’s Kristinn Taylor, President Trump tweeted Sunday afternoon he is ordering the Justice Department to investigate whether the Obama administration spied on his 2016 presidential campaign.

The order comes on the heels of leaks to the New York Times and Washington Post that the Obama administration had an “informant” make several approaches to three Trump campaign officials, included one that involved an offer of cash and another an offer to “advise” the campaign.

Trump tweeted: I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!

On Sunday evening, the Justice Department asked Inspector General Horowitz to investigate whether there was “impropriety or political motivation” into the FBI’s infiltration of Trump’s campaign.

Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows doesn’t believe the DOJ can be trusted to investigate themselves and blasted Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein.

Mark Meadows tweeted: This is the right call from @realDonaldTrump–we’ve seen disturbing evidence that the FBI engaged in political targeting.

But the DOJ can’t be trusted to investigate themselves–Congress needs the documents too. Rod Rosenstein: where are the documents? Show Americans the truth.

President Trump, Rep. Mark Meadows and other members of the Freedom Caucus are on the front lines fighting the Deep State while AG Sessions is AWOL.

On Wednesday, with the backing of Rep. Ron DeSantis and Rep. Jim Jordan, Rep. Meadows sent President Trump a letter requesting he use his Presidential powers to instruct AG Sessions to declassify and release ALL FISA abuse documents and the unredacted Rosenstein memo detailing Mueller’s scope.

“In the year that has passed since these committments were made, the Department of Justice has failed to fully comply with regular and repeated Congressional requests and subpoenas. Our power as Congress to conduct investigations is broad, inherent and mandated by the Constitution. As a separate and equal branch of government, we have a constitutional right to these documents,” Meadows said in his letter to President Trump.

Rep. Meadows requested documents related to FISA abuses, documents related to the initial investigation into Trump’s camp before the Special Counsel was appointed, and the unredacted August 2nd memo penned by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein detailing Mueller’s scope.

Chairman Meadows is correct. The leaky DOJ cannot be trusted to investigate themselves; the American people deserve answers.

Teacher OKs Confederate art project, changes mind over its ‘racism.’ The school loses this battle.

A Virginia high school freshman faced backlash over his Confederate-themed art project for which his teacher initially gave the go-ahead.

The student, William Norman, however, completed the project because it meant something exceptionally special to him: Gen. Robert E. Lee is his third cousin.

What are the details here?

Delmarva Now and WVEC-TV reported that William Norman, a student at Nandua High School in Onley, Virginia, was given the OK after presenting the Confederate-themed concept for a sculpture.

According to the outlets, the project was “a ceramic sculpture of a hand with ‘Robert E. Lee, history not hate.’” The sculpture also bore a Confederate flag.

One day before the project was due, however, both the art teacher and, later, the school’s principal told William that he would have to redo the project, saying it “promoted racism.”

“I was going to do what I planned,” Normal told the outlets. “They can’t approve it and then say you gotta change it after I worked so long on it. It’s not fair to me, or anybody.”

After William balked, the school’s principal laid down a simple directive: redo the project or fail.

How did William get to present the project anyway?

William got his family involved in the debacle, and that’s when things really took off.

William’s father, David, told the outlets that the art project was all about heritage and deep roots in the American South — and not racism.

“Robert E. Lee was a third cousin,” David explained.

He told WVEC, “We were on the second ship from England that came to America, so my bloodline goes way back when America first started.”

According to the outlets, the school allowed William to present and display his project, after several meetings between the family and the school.

“People that may be racist might fly it, but to me, it has nothing to do with racism,” William explained. “It’s my heritage, my blood, where I came from.”

Venezuela’s ruling clowns stage fraud election, install sham dictator

So starving, socialist Venezuela has held another “election.” And like every single election there I have followed, since around 2004, it was a fraudy affair.

According to the Associated Press:

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is celebrating his re-election in an energized speech inviting his defeated challengers to join him for a dialogue about the country’s future.

Maduro spoke late Sunday to a crowd of cheering supporters at Venezuela’s presidential palace in the capital of Caracas. Election officials say he won nearly 68 percent of the votes, beating nearest challenger Henri Falcon by more than 40 points.

The election gives Maduro a second six-year term amid the oil-rich country’s deepening economic crisis that has many Venezuelans struggling to afford food and medicine.

File under ‘barf alert.’

Yes, it’s another fraudy election. This one, though, stood out. The ruling socialists this time didn’t even try to make it seem legitimate, not in the least. They threw in jail or else disqalified every potential candidate except their own in a hastily announced vote. The opposition mostly held together in boycotting the vote, while a little quisling named Henri Falcon ran to make it all look capiche. There were no election observers (probably because they couldn’t get any, not even Jimmy Carter, who’s been servicing them on that for years) . Even their tainted voting machine company, Smartmatic, pulled out, not wanting to be associated with this one. Most of the country’s neighbors pre-announced that the election was garbage and they wouldn’t recognize it. The U.S., of course, refused to give it the time of day.

If there was ever a case for the textbooks on how to run a fraudy election, well, here we have it.

The new question is what to do about it. The international community, even the United Nations, has condemned the fraud and ought to do is sanction the country right out the gate for its gross mockery of democracy, but they won’t do that.

The U.S., however, still has a few cards to play.

Up until now, the U.S. has avoided wholesale sanctions on that hellhole because of the sense that the country would starve and there would create a humanitarian catastrophe. It wasn’t that we needed their oil. The fracking revolution has made them buyers of our oil, actually. Yet we were being big about it, thinking of the humanitarian implications, despite our loathing the socialist regime.

Well, a humanitarian disaster happened anyway, without U.S. sanctions, so the only thing sanctions would do now is take money out of the hands of the ruling Chavista elites.

Analysts are now propounding the idea, and some think it will happen, such as this one here:

The U.S. is almost certainly preparing to impose targeted crude sanctions against Venezuela, analysts told CNBC on Monday, in a move likely to constitute a “devastating” blow for the oil-dependent state.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro won re-election to another six-year term on Sunday, despite widespread anger over the South American country’s crushing economic and social crises. The vote was marred by low voter turnout, allegations of vote-rigging and an opposition boycott.

“The next step is sanctions against the oil sector,” Diego Moya-Ocampos, principal political analyst for Latin America at IHS Markit, told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Europe” on Monday.

“This is crucial because (Venezuela’s) oil sector represents 25 percent of GDP (gross domestic product), 50 percent of fiscal revenues and 97 percent of revenue from foreign exchange… So, obviously, sanctions on the oil sector in Venezuela will be a game changer.”

If it happens, it couldn’t happen soon enough. This regime has been starving its own people, taking the international community for a ride, dealing drugs, supporting terrorists, consorting with regional troublemakers such as Iran and Russia, and generally making itself a plague on the hemisphere. How much wonderful it would all be without them and their creepy Cuban masters running most of their government.

Slam them hard with sanctions, President Trump. Tinpot regimes everywhere will take note and the effect will reverberate. These revolting, despicable, starvation-creating socialists have had it coming for years.

Ryan OUT? GOP ‘Entertaining’ The Idea Of Ousting Speaker Before Summer’s Out

The House GOP is planning to oust Speaker Paul Ryan before the end of the summer, and well before Ryan finishes his final term in Congress, according to a report in The Weekly Standard.

Haley Byrd at the Weekly Standard alleges that Republicans are already putting together a plan that would have Ryan cleaning out the Speaker’s office well before the end of the summer, before Congress returns for its fall session, and well before the Speaker is scheduled to leave office in January.

The change wouldn’t be drastic — Republicans are expected to back the official Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy for the Speaker’s chair — but the timeline is somewhat more protracted than Ryan might have initially expected. Ryan had anticipated remaining in office at least until after the November elections, and perhaps even until January.

He may not be so lucky. Sources within the Trump Administration tell the Weekly Standard that no less than President Trump himself “believes there is merit to the plan.” He hasn’t made a final decision, his aides tell WS, however.

Even though Ryan has helped pass a few key pieces of legislation in his tenure as Speaker, now that he’s officially retiring from office, he’s not as powerful. It’s less likely he’d be able to whip Republican legislators into backing any controversial bills, splitting the House GOP and rendering it ineffective. If Democrats take back the House in 2018 — as they are expected to do — Republicans will have to have a strong and productive last few months of 2018 in order to save President Trump’s agenda.

Letting Ryan go may be the only decision that makes sense.

Ann Coulter on Democrats Defending MS-13 Gang: ‘They Hate This Country and Want to Replace Us’

New York Times best-selling author and populist conservative columnist Ann Coulter says Democrats “hate this country” and “want to replace” American citizens with foreign nationals.

After President Trump called MS-13 gang members “animals” during a White House roundtable on sanctuary city policies, the media establishment and Democrats across the country began denouncing the president’s attack on the violent El Salvadorian gang, as Breitbart News reported.

Coulter, during an interview with Fox News’ Jesse Waters, says the left’s position on national immigration policy is centered around the concept that foreigners are inherently better than American citizens.

Coulter said:

In particular here, when it comes to immigration, their position is anyone who is not an American is better than an American. They just want them coming nonstop, open it up, that’s why we have to presume that they’re all valedictorians and ‘Oh, they’re adding so much.’ They hate regular Americans, they hate flyover people. That is the overall point which is why you can catch them in these preposterous hypocrisies. [Emphasis added]

They hate this country and want to replace us. It’s good to see them revealing it. [Emphasis added]

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) defended MS-13 gang members, conflating them with “undocumented immigrants.”

“And so when the president of the United States says about undocumented immigrants, ‘These aren’t people, these are animals,’ you have to wonder: Does he not believe in the spark of divinity, the dignity and worth of every person,” Pelosi told the media, as Breitbart News reported.

The violent El Salvadorian MS-13 gang has flourished in the U.S. after decades of open borders policies whereby unaccompanied minors are resettled throughout the country. Sometimes, those unaccompanied minors are already members of MS-13 or become members.

Just this year, a number of violent MS-13 gang members have been convicted of murdering Americans, with the most recent case where six of the gang members were charged with murder.

As Breitbart Texas reported, there have been at least 200 murders by the MS-13 gang across 22 states since 2012. Most recently, Border Patrol revealed to Breitbart Texas that an MS-13 gang member traveling with a caravan of 1,200 Central Americans posed as an unaccompanied minor to gain entry to the U.S.

An explosive report by Breitbart News reported that nearly 100 MS-13 gang members had been resettled across the country by the federal government as unaccompanied minors. Nearly 65 of those gang members were granted Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJ), which acts as a quasi-amnesty program for young illegal aliens who cross the southern border.

HAHAHAHA! WASH POST, NYT: FBI Embedded Informant In Trump Campaign To PROTECT Him

Ever wonder what color the sky is in the mainstream media’s world?

Us, too.

Throughout the last week, stories exploded about the Obama FBI embedding an informant inside the campaign of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump called the reports “bigger than Watergate” and the “all-time biggest political scandal!”

But not to the Washington Post and the New York Times. Over the weekend, both stellar news agencies wrote stories saying the insertion of an informant was simply to protect Trump.

“The FBI didn’t use an informant to go after Trump. They used one to protect him,” read the Post’s headline.

“Trump and his backers are wrong about what it means that the FBI reportedly was using a confidential source to gather information early in its investigation of possible campaign ties to Russia. The investigation started out as a counterintelligence probe, not a criminal one. And relying on a covert source rather than a more intrusive method of gathering information suggests that the FBI may have been acting cautiously — perhaps too cautiously — to protect the campaign, not undermine it,” wrote Asha Rangappa, a “lecturer” at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at Yale University and a former FBI agent.

As a former FBI counterintelligence agent, I know what Trump apparently does not: Counterintelligence investigations have a different purpose than their criminal counterparts. Rather than trying to find evidence of a crime, the FBI’s counterintelligence goal is to identify, monitor and neutralize foreign intelligence activity in the United States. In short, this entails identifying foreign intelligence officers and their network of agents; uncovering their motives and methods; and ultimately rendering their operations ineffective — either by clandestinely thwarting them (say, by feeding back misinformation or “flipping” their sources into double agents) or by exposing them.

Rangappa concludes: “Ironically, the FBI’s apparent attempt to protect the campaign by investigating Russia’s efforts quietly is now being weaponized against it. Accusations that the FBI was “spying” on the Trump campaign — rather than spying on foreign spies, which is its job — erase the important distinctions between counterintelligence and criminal investigations. It also displays a shocking ignorance of the devastating consequences to our national security….”

The Times followed suit in a story headlined “F.B.I. Used Informant to Investigate Russia Ties to Campaign, Not to Spy, as Trump Claims.”

In fact, F.B.I. agents sent an informant to talk to two campaign advisers only after they received evidence that the pair had suspicious contacts linked to Russia during the campaign. The informant, an American academic who teaches in Britain, made contact late that summer with one campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos, according to people familiar with the matter. He also met repeatedly in the ensuing months with the other aide, Carter Page, who was also under F.B.I. scrutiny for his ties to Russia.

To the Times, it’s no foul, no problem.

“No evidence has emerged that the informant acted improperly when the F.B.I. asked for help in gathering information on the former campaign advisers, or that agents veered from the F.B.I.’s investigative guidelines and began a politically motivated inquiry, which would be illegal.”

But then the “paper of record” says this: “Details about the informant’s relationship with the F.B.I. remain scant. It is not clear how long the relationship existed and whether the F.B.I. paid the source or assigned the person to other cases.”

That’s right: We still know hardly anything about the informant, what information he gathered, etc.

But when did having no facts ever stop the MSM?

Texas Lt. Gov. Patrick: Arming teachers, securing guns in home will help eliminate school violence

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick believes that arming teachers could prevent more school violence in the state. He made the comment Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” program.

Patrick’s statement came two days after a mass killing at Santa Fe High School south of Houston left 10 dead and 13 injured. A 17-year-old suspect is being held on murder charges in connection with the massacre.

How would this work?

“We need teachers to be armed. When you’re facing someone who’s an active shooter, the best way to take that shooter down is with a gun. But even better than that is four or five guns to one,” Patrick said.

Patrick praised the quick action of two school campus officers, a police officer and a state trooper in the area who quickly responded to calls of an active shooting at the school.

“They were able to stop the shooter from killing more,” he said.

Arming teachers would be one more reinforcement, Patrick said.

“But had teachers been armed — there was a teacher next door, a Marine who saw what was going on, slammed the door, locked his door, protected his students,” Patrick said. “Some feel, had he been able to carry a gun, he may have been able to stop that shooter, had it been his choice.”

Texas already allows “teachers to carry, but we leave it up to local control, up to the superintendent, up to the teachers and up to the parents to make that decision,” Patrick explained.

What else can be done?

Securing guns so they don’t fall into the wrong hands is another step that can be taken to ensure safety, he said.

“What can we do now?” Patrick asked on a video clip that aired Friday. “One, if you’re a parent and you own guns, lock your guns safely away. Your children should not be able, or anyone else, to get your legally-owned guns. It’s a serious issue. It’s one big step that we can take.”

Everyone who owns a gun must understand that gun safety “has to start at home,” Patrick said Sunday. “Gun ownership, and I’m a proud gun owner, comes with the responsibility of gun control in your home. Be sure your kids and grandkids, or anyone who might have access to your home cannot get your guns.”

Host Jake Tapper pressed Patrick about whether there should be laws that require guns to be locked up. Patrick said it depends on the state.

“In Texas, we hold people very responsible,” Patrick said.

For example, if someone uses a gun to stop a crime or defend himself, and a stray bullet injures an unintended target, the shooter can be held civilly and criminally liable.
