A Texas woman gave birth in a San Antonio, Texas, Chick-fil-A bathroom on Tuesday night — and her husband was the one who delivered the baby.
What’s the background on this?
Robert Griffin shared a Wednesday Facebook post announcing his wife’s birth. The post has since gone viral, with over 100,000 likes and over 82,000 shares.
In the post, Robert recalled his wife, Falon’s birth plan, and how it went awry when she suddenly went into labor on Tuesday evening.
The Griffins drove to a nearby Chick-fil-A to drop off the rest of the family with friends who were meeting them there, so that Robert and Falon could head to the hospital alone.
When the family arrived, they realized that the restaurant was closed, as it was 10:30 p.m. and after-hours.
Robert said that when he and his family arrived at the eatery, his wife had to use the bathroom terribly.
KSAT-TV reported that the restaurant’s clean-up crew acquiesced, and kindly let Falon use the restroom.
Falon made it to the bathroom, but once inside, reportedly started screaming.
Brenda Enriquez, the store director, said that she heard the mother’s screams and immediately called 911.
“I’m about to dial 911, I open the door and she’s just screaming,” Enriquez said.
Robert said that he entered the bathroom, where his wife was straddling the toilet.
He noted that the baby’s head was visible, and “just barely crowning.”
“I knew we couldn’t go anywhere,” he said, according to KSAT, “so I told [Falon], ‘Sweetie, we’re gonna do something great, and we’re gonna do it right here and we’re gonna do it right now.’”
Falon began to deliver the baby, and that’s when Robert noticed that the baby’s umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck twice — but he did his best to avoid alerting or alarming Falon.
He said that he was able to distract her and he was “somehow able to unwrap the cord from the baby’s neck.”
The baby — Gracelyn Mae Violet Griffith — was born in just six minutes, according to Robert, and when she was delivered, Robert wrapped the newborn in his “Trump 2020” T-shirt prior to the paramedics’ arrival.
On Facebook, Robert wrote, “I think it’s pretty ironic that a proud conservative, Christian family would have a baby in a Chick-fil-A, and wrapped in a Trump 2020 T-shirt! BOOM #maga.” The child’s birth certificate even says that she was born at the Chick-fil-A.
Franchise owner Ben Stover said that the child will get free Chick-fil-A for life — and has already secured a job for the Gracelyn when she turns 16.
