Blame Game: Avenatti and Dems Turn on Each Other After Kavanaugh Confirmation

So, Judge Kavanaugh is now Justice Kavanaugh, which means it’s time for the American left to stop their fusillade against Republican senators and, like always, assemble into a circular firing squad of enmity.
The mutually assured destruction now features a battle between the staid Democrats, who just took advantage of people who said they were victims of sexual assaults because they wanted to stop a Supreme Court nominee, and lawyer Michael Avenatti, who took advantage of people who said they were victims of sexual assaults because he wanted to be more famous.
In an article published by CNN Saturday, Democrats both named and unnamed say that the flamboyant lawyer made their case less credible thanks to his client Julie Swetnick, who claimed that Brett Kavanaugh and his friends ran a sort of “gang rape” cabal where women were plied with alcohol at teenage parties. She would later back away from some of these claims.
“Christine Blasey Ford had just revealed her identity and was prepared to testify in public, detailing her allegations that Kavanaugh had tried to sexual assault her more than three decades ago. On top of that, a New Yorker article had just revealed that a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, was accusing Kavanaugh of exposing his genitals to her while they were college students,” CNN reported.
“Then came Michael Avenatti.

“The combative lawyer, who represents Stormy Daniels and has been a ubiquitous presence on cable television, revealed a stunning new allegation: A woman, Julie Swetnick, said she had witnessed the Supreme Court nominee attending more than 10 house parties between 1981 and 1983 where Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge, were present. At some of those parties, she alleged, Kavanaugh was ‘fondling and grabbing girls without their consent’ and, along with others, spiking drinks to force girls to lose their inhibitions.”
Not only was there no corroboration here, it turns out Swetnick wasn’t terribly reliable. Now, Democrats say that Swetnick’s claims hurt their cause.
“Well you know at some point there were a lot of folks coming forward making all sorts of accusations,” Sen. Gary Peters, a Michigan Democrat, told CNN.
“It turns it into a circus atmosphere and certainly that’s not where we should be.”
Do you think Michael Avenatti wrecked the Democrats’ case?
Peters, asked whether Avenatti helped their cause, said that, “I think we should have focused on the serious allegations that certainly appeared very credible to me that would be our best course of action.”
Off the record, senior Democrats were more candid. One Senator said that Avenatti’s involvement was “(n)ot helpful at all. I think Susan (Collins) was always (voting) yes, but Avenatti was a useful foil.”
Another Democrat aide said Avenatti should have just focused on his quixotic run for the presidency and left the actual politicking to them.
“Democrats and the country would have been better off if Mr. Avenatti spent his time on his Iowa vanity project rather than meddling in Supreme Court fights,” one aide said.
“His involvement set us back, absolutely.”

Avenatti, meanwhile, remained Avenatti-esque.
“It is outrageous that these so-called Democrats would attack a sexual assault victim from coming forward,” Avenatti said in response.
“I guess their position is that she should have shut her mouth and remained silent? It is disgusting that these cowards blame my client and the other accusers from coming forward.”
It’s funny that Avenatti and the Democrats are now at war over the Kavanaugh debacle; these two parties deserve each other. Circuses attract clowns, and Avenatti is the biggest clown of all. While he might be cute on basic cable at two in the afternoon, raving and ranting about how he’s going to take down the president, that doesn’t play so well when he gets involved in the actual political machinery of the nation.
It isn’t that Avenatti’s charges are so materially different from what Senate Democrats presented. Swetnick’s case was uncorroborated as well and involved a topic that was designed to make headlines and defame a Supreme Court nominee. The difference was that, like everything Avenatti touches, it was just a little bit more debased than everything else being pushed by the Democrats. He was like a caricature of the entire process.
So, in the end, what did the Democrats expect? Once they let Avenatti run loose inside the funhouse, this was bound to happen. Let the circular firing squad commence.
