Zachary Greenberg, 28, has been charged with three felonies and one misdemeanor in the assault of conservative activist Hayden Williams last month on the University of California, Berkeley campus.
Greenberg was charged with assault, battery with serious bodily injury, and criminal threats, as well as a misdemeanor count of vandalism, according to the criminal complaint obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
Greenberg will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, the Alameda County District Attorney’s office said.
Neither the suspected assailant nor Williams are students at Berkeley, but Campus Reform reported Greenberg, a software engineer according to Fox News, worked for the school as a lab assistant for three months in 2010 and was "briefly" a non-degree seeking student at the school.

The Feb. 19 attack on Williams was largely captured on camera. Williams, a field representative for the Leadership Institute, was accosted by two men while tabling on the campus’s main plaza to recruit members for the right-wing student group Turning Point. According to Williams, the men took exception to a sign referencing the alleged hate crime hoax perpetrated by Jussie Smollett.
One man flipped over Williams’s table, swore loudly at him, pushed him and eventually punched him in the face, leaving him with a black eye.
Given the charged political nature of the attack, Berkeley’s response to the assault has been under the microscope. The campus is infamous among conservatives for intolerance to right-leaning views, but in a fiery statement on Saturday the administration pushed back on the notion it treated the case with anything less than the seriousness it deserved.
President Donald Trump invited Williams up to speak during his lengthy speech at CPAC on Saturday. Trump thanked him for taking a punch on behalf of conservatives, and Williams said he would continue to fight discrimination against conservatives on college campuses.
Trump also announced he would soon sign an executive order requiring universities and colleges receiving federal research money to support free speech.
Williams penned an op-ed for USA Today where he criticized Berkeley for allowing "a culture of intolerance and violence towards conservatives to grow."
