The Leftist Effort to Revise American History

There is very little new under the sun. The monument and statue destruction that we are witnessing has been witnessed in other times and other places. A tyrant’s first battlefield is to rewrite history. Most notable were the political purges of Joseph Stalin. The Soviet government erased figures from Soviet history by renaming cities —  such as the Imperial capital of St. Petersburg to Petrograd and Leningrad and Stalingrad — and eradicating memories of czarist rule. Stalin’s historical revisions also included changing photographs and history books, thereby distorting children’s learning within educational establishments.
Most of the effort to rewrite American history has its roots among the intellectual elite on our college campuses whose message has been sold to predominantly white college students who have little understanding of how they are being used. Much of their current focus is on tearing down statues and changing names that they deem offensive. They have denounced George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln. Without much understanding of history, they have demanded that Princeton University remove the name of Woodrow Wilson, a progressive, from its public policy school and residential college. Some are urging Yale University to change its name because its benefactor Elihu Yale was a slave trader.
To purge our society of names associated with evil is going to be quite a task. I suggest that we set up a formal commission to deal with this formidable challenge. Maybe we can name it the Commission to Eliminate Bad Memories. There are some challenging issues. What should be done about our nation’s capital, Washington and District of Columbia? After all, George Washington owned slaves, and Columbia is the feminine form of Columbus. Speaking of Washington, its football team, the Washington Redskins, has finally agreed to temporarily call themselves Washington Football Team until they can find a snazzier name.
Renaming things is a big job. Our military has several fighting aircraft named with what today’s tyrants might consider racial slights, such as the Apache, Iroquois, Kiowa, Lakota, and Mescalero. Perhaps offensive to PETA, we also have military hardware named after animals, such as the Eagle, Falcon, Raptor, Cobra, and Dolphin.
Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune wrote, “Now that Washington’s NFL team has announced its ‘retirement’ of the racial slur that has been its brand name since 1933, I am tempted to gloat a little.” In response to Page’s article, there is an email making the internet rounds that raises the issue of other problematic names. What about the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves, and the Cleveland Indians?
The New York Yankees might offend Southerners because there is no team named for the Confederacy. Some people, particularly Catholics, might be offended by or deem it sacrilegious to have sports teams named the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels, or the San Diego Padres. Then what about team names that glorify savage barbarians and criminals who raped and pillaged, such as Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Pittsburgh Pirates? The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants might be advocating obesity and the Milwaukee Brewers promoting alcoholism.
There is another naming issue that needs resolution. I have been working 40 years at George Mason University. Despite his monumental contributions, such as our Bill of Rights, George Mason was a slave owner. Therefore, in keeping with the times, George Mason University is due for a name change. How about Al Sharpton University, Jesse Jackson University, or Black Lives Matter University? Does objection to these names make one a racist?

THIS IS CRIMINAL: Facebook Bans Committee to Defend Trump From Running Ads UNTIL NOVEMBER 1 — Two Days Before Election!

It’s no secret that Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube etc. are censoring and banning conservative content.

We have written about this numerous times at The Gateway Pundit.

In September 2018 The Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft testified before Congress on Facebook targeting.
Facebook has flattened conservative content since January 2017. Most of the top pro-Trump Facebook pages from 2016 were put out of business by Facebook.

Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft Testifies to Congress on Facebook Censorship: Full Statement (VIDEO)

But the tech giants continue to censor and ban conservative content without any fear of retribution.

On Thursday Facebook announced it was banning the Committee to Defend Trump from running ANY FACEBOOK ADS until November 1, 2020 — or two days before the election.

Via the far left Daily Beast:

So far this election cycle the Committee to Defend Trump PAC has spent over $7.5 million in defense of President Trump.
Now they will no longer be able to post ads on Facebook!

The company took action against the account for the Committee to Defend the President, a political action committee which began in 2013 as an anti-Hillary Clinton group but which has since changed its focus to pro-Trump activism.

“As a result of the Committee to Defend the President’s repeated sharing of content determined by third-party fact-checkers to be false, they will not be permitted to advertise for a period of time,” Facebook said in a statement.

The committee has spent roughly $325,000 on ads supporting President Trump and conservative causes between May 2018 and August 2020, according to Facebook’s ad database. Its founders have spent nearly $10 million in support of President Trump and his reelection in 2020 according to campaign finance records.

It is clear this is electioneering by Facebook.
Republicans need to stop this assault on our First Amendment rights before it’s too late.

Police and protesters in Portland, Oregon, have clashed for the second night in a row and the city’s police chief says the ongoing violence is harming the city’s image. The high-profile clashes outside a U.S. courthouse in Portland, Oregon, have largely stopped since the Trump administration sent federal agents to protect the building. But the…

Minneapolis Commission Hits Brakes on Anti-Cop Crusade, Blocks Key Item from November Ballot

The Minneapolis Charter Commission on Wednesday blocked the possibility of a November ballot measure for voters to decide whether to disband the city police department. Members of the commission claimed the potential ballot item was rushed, the amendment itself was flawed and the proposal gave the city council too much power, according to the Associated…

Pelosi, Schumer Send Urgent Letter to Postmaster General Demanding Reversal of Operational Changes to USPS Ahead of Election

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Thursday sent an urgent letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy demanding he reverse the recent operational changes to the USPS that “threaten the timely delivery of mail” ahead of the 2020 election.

The Democrat-media complex exploded last week and accused President Trump of “destroying” the US Postal Service after the President’s newly appointed postmaster general made structural changes.

New changes made by Louis DeJoy have reportedly ‘slowed down’ the mail deliveries, prompting the left to accuse President Trump of corrupting the US Postal Service in order to deter people from using mail-in ballots for the November election.

The Democrats, with help from their stenographers in the media are keeping the Covid-19 panic alive until Election Day in order to change how Americans vote — they are pushing for mail-in voting because it doesn’t require voter ID and there is no chain of custody.

Pelosi and Schumer are now demanding Louis DeJoy reverse his structural changes so the ailing US Postal Service can handle an onslaught of ballots.

“We believe these changes, made during the middle of a once-in-a-century pandemic, now threaten the timely delivery of mail—including medicines for seniors, paychecks for workers, and absentee ballots for voters—that is essential to millions of Americans,” Pelosi and Schumer wrote.

“While it is true that the Postal Service has and continues to face financial challenges, enacting these policies as cost-cutting or efficiency measures as the COVID-19 public health emergency continues is counterproductive and unacceptable.”

“During our meeting, you committed to being more forthcoming and transparent with Congress and the American people regarding these changes, including providing documentation of the operational changes you have made and will be making since beginning your term and the Postal Service’s plan to successfully deliver election mail during the 2020 elections.”

Louis DeJoy will testify to the House Oversight Committee about the changes he implemented on September 17.

Poll: Overwhelming Majority of Black Americans Want Police To Maintain Local Presence

It is difficult to ascertain who the Black Lives Matter movement speaks for at this juncture in the group’s short history. It claims to speak for the black population of the United States, but that evidence for that is in short supply. Meanwhile, videos of white liberals speaking for black Americans abound on social media.…

Karen Bass’s Campaign Gave Nearly $100K to Nonprofit She Co-Founded Which Paid Her $70K+ for ‘Consulting’

Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) nearly doubled her income in 2010 from consulting fees she received from a nonprofit she co-founded, and Bass’s re-election campaign donated nearly $100,000 to that nonprofit between 2008 and 2011, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Bass, a vice presidential contender on Democratic presumptive nominee Joe Biden’s VP shortlist, co-founded a South Los Angeles-based nonprofit called the Community Coalition in 1990. Her community organizing with the Coalition laid the groundwork for her successful run for the California State Assembly in 2004, where she would eventually rise to the position of Speaker in 2008.

A Los Angeles Times review of Bass’s financial disclosures found that her State Assembly campaign committees paid the Community Coalition nearly $100,000 between 2008 and 2011. And in 2010, the Community Coalition paid Bass a total of $70,500 in consulting fees, an amount that nearly doubled her State Assembly salary that year.

Financial disclosures show that Bass’s campaign made two major donations to the nonprofit organization that she co-founded.

The first was for $47,000 given between late 2008 (the year Bass became Speaker of the California Assembly) and 2009.

The second donation was for $50,000 in late 2011 when Bass was closing out her Assembly campaign chest after she got elected to Congress.

Bass acknowledged to the Times that her fundraising ability flourished in 2008 after she became Speaker of the Assembly – which coincided with her campaign’s first major donation to the Community Coalition:

Bass said her donations grew considerably after she became speaker, a position that enabled her to raise more money. After she was elected to Congress, she wanted to give away what was left in her Assembly campaign accounts, she said.

However, the picture becomes a bit more complicated when you factor in the money the nonprofit paid Bass as a “consultant.”

“In 2010, the Community Coalition paid her $70,500 in consulting fees directly and through one of its contractors, according to interviews and public records,” the Times reports.

The $70,500 breaks down into two separate payments from 2010, according to the Times:

The Community Coalition directly paid Bass $26,500 to help it do research and appear in a short video to mark its 20th anniversary. Bass collected an additional $44,000 through a Community Coalition contract with Jemmott Rollins Group, a nonprofit consulting firm, to help devise fundraising strategies for community groups devastated by the Great Recession, according to a House filing and to Frances Jemmott, chief executive of Jemmott Rollins.

These consulting fees nearly doubled Bass’s reported salary in 2010 and are the only consulting income she received between 2003 and 2018 (a period which spans her political career), the Times reports:

Other than the $70,500, Bass reported no consulting income between 2003 and 2018, according to financial disclosure forms. Those payments nearly doubled her reported $94,000 salary in 2010 as a member of the Assembly. The year before, she was paid $139,000 as speaker, a position she gave up in early 2010 as she was facing term limits on her Assembly seat and preparing to run for Congress.

Bass claims that her campaign’s donations to the nonprofit she co-founded were unrelated to the consulting income the nonprofit paid her. She says the money the Community Coalition paid her came from outside grants it received from foundations like the California Endowment.

“I had no reason in the world to give them a contribution and ask for it back,” Bass told the Times.

Still, the arrangement “creates the appearance of a conflict of interest,” according to Kirk O. Hanson, senior fellow at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University.

“It’s not a good idea to receive substantial income from organizations that are supported by contributions from your campaign fund,” Hanson told the Times. “It creates an appearance of a conflict of interest, that you have converted campaign funds into personal income.”

These latest revelations add to other concerns about Bass brought to light by the increased scrutiny of the VP vetting process.

She has come under criticism for her decades-long association with communists, her membership in a communist front group run by Cuba’s communist regime, her praise of Fidel Castro, and her public praise for her communist mentor and communist influencers.

Biden is expected to announce his vice presidential pick next week.

Donald Trump to Ohio Workers: Obama-Biden Were ‘Perfectly Happy to Let China Win’

President Donald Trump in Ohio Thursday criticized former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden for abandoning American workers.

“American factory workers received nothing but broken promises and brazen sellouts and lost jobs. The last administration tied America up in one globalist debacle after another,” Trump said.

The president visited a Whirlpool plant in Ohio on Thursday to celebrate the 2018 tariff he leveled on imports of foreign washing machines, accusing other countries of “dumping” cheap appliances into the American market.

“Your cries for help fell on deaf ears. you didn’t see any action,” Trump recalled of the Obama administration. “They didn’t act, they didn’t care, and they never will.”

The president repeatedly criticized the previous administration, now that Biden is running for president. Trump said that the Obama administration was never respected by countries like China, who took advantage of their complacency on trade.

“The Obama-Biden administration was laughed at, they were a joke, and they were perfectly happy to let China win, your jobs disappear, and your factory to close,” Trump said.

He criticized the Obama administration’s march toward globalization, promising to continue fighting for fairer trade policies and American manufacturing.

“Globalization has made the financial elites who donate to politicians very wealthy, but it’s left millions and millions of our workers with nothing but poverty and heartache,” he said.

The president said that if he was elected for another four more years, he would continue to fight the coronavirus pandemic and bring more essential manufacturing back from China.

“As we’ve seen in this pandemic, the United States must produce essential equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals for ourselves,” he said. “We cannot rely on China and nations across the globe.”

The president also signed an executive order requiring federal government agencies to purchase essential medicines and equipment made in the United States.

He said he would continue to use tariffs to force foreign countries to make better trade deals.

“To be a strong, America must be a strong manufacturing nation and not be led by a bunch of fools,” he said.

The president said during his speech that he had approved reimposing a ten percent aluminum tariff on Canada.

“Canada was taking advantage of us, as usual,“ he said.

Trump recalled his 2016 campaign promises to American workers, including his decision to cancel the Obama/Biden Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal when he first took office and to renegotiate NAFTA.

“I kept every single one of them,” he said about his promises. “The fake news media back there, they hate to report this. They hate it. Why do they hate it? Because they’re fake.”
