Firearm Background Checks Soar To Record High In March Ahead Of Biden Gun Control Push

Background checks for gun sales soared to an all-time record in March, reportedly spurred on by President Joe Biden’s threats to increase federal gun regulations, and by a wave of $1400 COVID-19 stimulus checks.

U.S. News and World Report noted Thursday that the FBI reported a record number of gun background checks in March. The bureau “conducted nearly 4.7 million background checks, breaking the record high that was just set in January, another month that was marked with violence and turmoil.”

“March’s background checks represent a 36% increase from February, which saw about 3.44 million checks. Additionally, nearly 1 million more background checks took place last month than in March 2020,” the outlet added.

Although it is not clear whether every background check resulted in a gun purchase — each individual sale is governed by varying state laws, and many buyers may not pass the FBI investigation — an increase in the number of background checks does appear to correlate with an increase in the number of gun sales, according to the Washington Examiner, citing gun retailer groups.

“After the FBI release, for example, Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting reported that sales are set to break the yearly record of 22.8 million in 2021. ‘For the first quarter of 2021 as a whole, about 5.9 million firearms were sold as opposed to 5.2 million in the first quarter of 2020. If this rate of sales were to be sustained throughout 2021, last year’s record sales of 22.8 million would be broken,’” one group noted to the Examiner.

The increase in the number of background checks also seems to correlate with the threat of increased gun regulation and, in March, the number of gun background checks spiked following two reported mass shootings, both of which were followed by an increase in gun control rhetoric from the White House.

“Of the top 10 days for most background checks, six were in March 2021, according to FBI data, including the top three days,” US News reported. “Following deadly mass shootings in Atlanta and Boulder, Colorado, gun sales soared and five of the top days occurred following either one or both shootings.”

“In addition to mass shootings, gun-control legislation can also be a driver of gun sales and House Democrats on March 11 passed a pair of gun-control bills that would expand background check requirements on all gun sales and transfers,” the outlet noted.

Indeed, President Joe Biden is expected to announce gun control executive orders on Thursday that will expand federal background checks, outlaw sales of “ghost guns” — homemade, often 3D printed firearms, without serial numbers — and implement so-called “red flag” provisions, controversial rules that limit gun sales to people who have a record of being treated for mental illness.

The Biden administration has, as of yet, refused to commit to stricter regulations on so-called “assault” weapons and high-capacity magazines, noting in previous interactions with the media that those restrictions must be passed by Congress.

The Washington Examiner noted, also, that the Biden administration may have inadvertently spurred the increase in gun sales by passing a coronavirus relief bill that issued $1400 stimulus checks to most American taxpayers.

“There are obvious factors at play here: Biden’s gun rhetoric being No. 1, as well as two mass shootings that were heavily covered in the media. However, we also saw a lot of transactions of around $1,400 starting on March 17, so it appears many people are using their stimulus money to buy guns,” one gun retailer told the examiner.

Report: Facebook Has No Plans to Warn 500M Users Affected by Data Leak

Social media giant Facebook has not notified more than 530 million users whose personal details were leaked due to a poorly-coded feature on the platform and recently made public, and has no plans to do so according to a company spokesperson.

A recent report from Reuters states that Facebook has not notified the more than 530 million users whose details were obtained due to one of Facebook’s own features and recently made public in an online database, and has no plans to do so.

Breitbart News recently reported that hackers published the phone numbers and personal data of 533 million Facebook users, including users’ full names, locations, phone numbers, and email addresses. Via Business Insider:

A user in a low level hacking forum on Saturday published the phone numbers and personal data of hundreds of millions of Facebook users for free online.

The exposed data includes personal information of over 533 million Facebook users from 106 countries, including over 32 million records on users in the US, 11 million on users in the UK, and 6 million on users in India. It includes their phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, locations, birthdates, bios, and — in some cases — email addresses.

Insider reviewed a sample of the leaked data and verified several records by matching known Facebook users’ phone numbers with the IDs listed in the data set. We also verified records by testing email addresses from the data set in Facebook’s password reset feature, which can be used to partially reveal a user’s phone number.

A Facebook spokesperson told Reuters that the company is not confident it had full visibility on which users would need to be notified and also took into account that users could not fix the issue and the data was publicly available. Facebook claims that it fixed the bug that left the details vulnerable in the first place already.

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission, the European Union’s lead regulator for Facebook, stated that it contacted the company about the leak this week. It said it received “no proactive communication from Facebook” but has since been in contact with the company.

WATCH – Big Rig Driver Blocks Murder Suspect’s Vehicle During Police Pursuit: ‘I Was Waiting for Him’

A suspect wanted in connection to a murder led officers on a chase Tuesday across Southern California but a truck driver decided to help end the pursuit.

Big rig driver Ahmed Shabaan attempted to end the chase by blocking the pickup truck’s path. He explained he knew a murder suspect was involved so he tracked the driver and maneuvered his rig so the suspect’s truck would crash into it near a Pomona intersection.

“I just thought to get him off the street because if I didn’t… if they’d been behind him for that long and didn’t stop him… I have the power,” Shabaan told Fox 11.

Prior to the crash, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department had been looking for the suspect but when deputies tried to contact the man, he reportedly attacked a deputy and took off in a pickup truck.

The chase took authorities across Riverside County and on to East San Gabriel. The suspect’s vehicle reportedly reached speeds of over 90 miles per hour on the 60 Freeway.

Aerial video footage showed the moment the suspect’s pickup truck rammed into Shabaan’s big rig as multiple law enforcement vehicles approached from behind:

“It is instinct for me, it’s natural for me,” Shabaan said of his actions. “I was waiting for him. I was trying to see where he’s at exactly so I can pinpoint him, and then I blocked him.”

Following the crash, the suspect was taken into custody and his passenger interviewed before deputies released her.

The passenger identified herself as Roxy and claimed she did not know that the driver, who is reportedly a friend from Bakersfield, was wanted in connection with a murder.

The suspect was transported to the hospital but Roxy and Shabaan reportedly were fine after the incident.

The Los Angeles Times later identified the suspect as 36-year-old Michael Caleb Reed.

“Reed is suspected in the shooting death of a 40-year-old man in Oildale in late March,” the outlet concluded.

Fact-Checking Biden’s Latest Gun Control Press Conference

On Thursday, Joe Biden announced further executive actions on the subject of gun control, saying “Enough prayers, time for some action.”

During the announcement, Biden delivered a speech riddled with falsehoods. Let’s debunk some of the most egregious claims Biden made during his short statement.

Biden parrots the “gun show loophole” lie

“These bills, one, require background checks for anyone purchasing a gun at a gun show, or an online sale,” Biden said, which triggered applause from the audience.

“Most people don’t know it, you walk into a store and you buy a gun, you have a background check. But you go to a gun show, you can buy whatever you want, and no background check.”

This is one of the most prevalent and misleading falsehoods promulgated by the Left when it comes to gun control. Federally licensed gun sellers are required, by law, to run background checks on all firearm purchases, whether at a gun show or in their gun store.

Unlicensed private individuals are permitted to sell guns without running a background check, but this is the case regardless of their location.

Biden falsely claims that “his” assault weapon and high-capacity magazine ban reduced mass shootings

“I know this has been a hobby horse of mine for a long time. Got it done once,” Biden said. “We should also ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country.”

“For that 10 years we had it done, the number of mass shootings actually went down,” Biden claimed.

As Katie Pavlich wrote in March 2021 for Townhall in a piece titled “Fact Check the Left: Did a Clinton Era Gun Ban ‘Bring Down Mass Killings’ as Biden Claims?” this is simply false.

Not only is this period too small a sample size to reach any statistically significant conclusions, but the average number of mass shootings per year before and during the “Assault Weapons Ban” didn’t change, staying at 1.5 events per year.

Biden argues that stabilizing braces make weapons more lethal

“We want to treat pistols, modified with stabilizing braces, with the seriousness they deserve,” Biden said. “A stabilizing brace […] essentially makes that pistol a hell of a lot more accurate and a mini-rifle. As a result, it’s more lethal. Effectively, turning it into a short-barreled rifle.”

“That’s what the alleged shooter in Boulder appears to have done,” he added.

The lethality of the firearm is the key part here, given that the stability of the gun after being fired (which is the purpose of the stabilizing brace) has no effective impact on the bullet fired or its deadliness.

Biden lies, saying that gun violence is an epidemic

“Gun violence in this country is an epidemic,” Biden claimed. “Let me say it again. Gun violence in this country is an epidemic.

While gun violence certainly exists, the truth is that “as gun ownership has increased, the rate of firearm homicides has steadily declined since a brief spike in the early 1990s.”

Joe Biden makes numerous false claims about the U.S. Constitution

“But no amendment, no amendment to the Constitution is absolute.” Biden said. “You can’t yell ‘fire’ in a crowded movie theater and call it freedom of speech.”

This claim is routinely parroted by members of the Left while attempting to pick holes in the First and Second Amendments. Unfortunately for them, it’s a false claim.

“From the very beginning, you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own. From the very beginning of the Second Amendment existed, certain people weren’t allowed to have weapons. So the idea is just bizarre to suggest that some of the things we’re recommending are contrary to the Constitution,” Biden also said.

The Second Amendment reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” While it is true that not all people have been permitted to “have weapons,” as Biden claimed, the reasoning behind such prevention was often changed by further amendments, such as the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery.

Ilhan Omar attacks Biden administration for ‘shameful’ plans to resume construction on ‘racist’ border wall

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) blasted President Joe Biden for his administration’s reported plans to resume construction of the southern border wall.

"It’s shameful and unacceptable for @POTUS to continue the construction of Trump’s xenophobic and racist wall," Omar tweeted on Wednesday.

It’s shameful and unacceptable for @POTUS to continue the construction of Trump’s xenophobic and racist wall.

— Ilhan Omar (@Ilhan Omar)1617814997.0

Omar lashed out at President Biden after a report this week by the Washington Times that said the Department of Homeland Security is considering continuing construction on the border wall to fill in "gaps."

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reportedly told Immigration and Customs Enforcement staffers that due to the recent surge in illegal immigrants, the Biden administration is open to resuming some construction on the border wall.

"The president has communicated quite clearly his decision that the emergency that triggered the devotion of DOD funds to the construction of the border wall is ended," the DHS secretary allegedly said. "But that leaves room to make decisions as the administration, as part of the administration, in particular areas of the wall that need renovation, particular projects that need to be finished."

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked about the report that the border wall construction is resuming.

"Wall construction remains paused, to the extent permitted by law," Psaki said during Tuesday’s press conference. "So some has already been funded through a congressional authorization and funding allocation. But as agencies develop for a plan — it’s paused while agencies are developing a plan for the president on the management of the federal funds."

"Federal agencies are continuing to review wall contracts and develop a plan to submit to the president soon," Psaki added. "It is paused. There is some limited construction that has been funded and allocated for, but it is otherwise paused."

"Wall construction remains paused, there is a review under way taking a look at funds that have been allocated," Psaki said. "We have never believed the wall is an answer to addressing immigration challenges."

On the campaign trail, Biden ran on rolling back the immigration policies of former President Donald Trump. On Biden’s first day in office, he signed an executive order that halted the construction of the border wall.

"Building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution," Biden said on his first day as president on Jan. 20. "It is a waste of money that diverts attention from genuine threats to our homeland security. My administration is committed to ensuring that the United States has a comprehensive and humane immigration system that operates consistently with our nation’s values."

"Approximately 450 miles of wall was constructed under the Trump administration, with officials saying about an additional 350 was funded," Fox News reported.

Former President Donald Trump hammered the Biden administration over its handling of the current border crisis.

"The wall is just a few weeks away from being completed. [Biden] didn’t want to complete it," Trump told Fox News. "They should finish the wall, number one. And they should have the [Remain in Mexico] policy reinserted, because if you don’t have that, this is going to be a disaster. …The wall should be completed by now if he let — he stopped it almost at his first day. He stopped construction of the wall."

"I don’t know what they’re doing. And they don’t know what they’re doing," Trump said of the Biden administration. "It’s a very, very dangerous situation. I’d love not to be involved. Somebody else is supposed to be doing it."

Trump went on to say that he was planning on visiting the southern border in the near future.

CALLED OUT! Tech Mogul Peter Thiel SCORCHES Google, Apple for Ties to China

Entrepreneur and venture capitalist Peter Thiel torched Google and Apple for ties to China at an event hosted by the Richard Nixon Foundation.
Thiel raked Big Tech companies over the coals at an April 6 seminar for ignoring the United States of America’s interests while appearing friendly to an authoritarian foreign power like China. “There’s something about the woke politics inside these [tech] companies, the way they think of themselves as not really American companies,” Thiel commented. “And it’s somehow very, very difficult to, for them to have a sharp anti-China edge of any sort whatsoever.”
Thiel recounted damning conversations he had with Google employees, where they seemed strategically indifferent about whether their technology was being used to run concentration camps for ethnic minorities. “I had a set of conversations with some of the Google people in the DeepMind [artificial intelligence] technology,” he explained. He said he asked “Is your A.I. being used to, you know, run the concentration camps in Xinjiang?” to which Thiel said Google employees replied: “‘Well, we don’t really know and don’t ask any questions.’”
Thiel condemned Google’s staff for “pretending that everything’s fine” and “wishful thinking.” He suggested Big Tech is full of “useful idiots” and “CCP fifth columnist collaborators."
The Richard Nixon Foundation’s official transcript quoted Thiel specifically contrasting Big Tech’s lack of cooperation with America to its overt cooperation with China:
“You know, I criticized Google a few years ago for refusing to work on its AI technology on Project Maven with the U.S. military, but working with Chinese universities and Chinese researchers. And since everything in China is a civilian- military fusion, Google was effectively working with the Chinese military, not with the American military.”
A Google spokesperson reportedly denied Thiel’s claims and told CNBC: “These allegations are baseless. We do not work with the Chinese military. We are proud to continue our long history of work with the U.S. government, including the Department of Defense, in many areas including cybersecurity, recruiting and healthcare.”
Google’s ties with China are a common source of scandal for the company.
Congressman Ken Buck (R-CO) publicly slammed Google for enabling Chinese tyranny during a Congressional Antitrust Hearing hearing in July 2020. Buck commented on how Google removed itself from the bidding process to work with the American military, but continued to work with China. He also mentioned Google’s embarrassing involvement with Project Dragonfly, a search engine that was being developed for the communist Chinese regime “to spy on its own people and enforce draconian security laws.”
Google was not the only Big Tech company Thiel called out at the Richard Nixon Foundation seminar.
“Thiel also said that Apple was unlikely to confront China because of its massive supply chain to manufacture iPhones and other products in the country,” CNBC reported. Thiel also reportedly called for “the U.S. to put a ‘lot of pressure’ and scrutiny on Apple because of its labor supply chain in the country.” Apple’s reliance on China for manufacturing are well known, addressed by outlets such as The Wall Street Journal as a “dependency.”
Thiel co-founded PayPal, has a seat on Facebook’s board, and has a history of being a comparatively conservative-friendly voice in the Big Tech world.
Conservatives are under attack. Contact Google at 1-650-253-0000 and contact Apple headquarters at (408) 996-1010 to demand that Big Tech cut ties with the tyrannical Chinese Communist Party.
