After Florida, the Media’s Silence on the Value of Some Lives

Journalists are racing to target President Trump and blame the Florida shooting on guns and the NRA. So, it might be a good time to look back. President Ronald Reagan wrote an essay in the spring of 1983. He was talking about exactly what was not on display in Parkland, Florida in the heart and soul of shooter Nikolas Cruz- the value of, and the respect for, human life. And in the aftermath of the school shooting that left seventeen dead? The nation’s media was also determined – one might say determined to the point of obsession to place blame.

Let’s start with recalling some of what President Reagan said

The real question today is not when human life begins, but, What is the value of human life? The abortionist who reassembles the arms and legs of a tiny baby to make sure all its parts have been torn from its mother’s body can hardly doubt whether it is a human being. The real question for him and for all of us is whether that tiny human life has a God-given right to be protected by the law the same right we have.

…Regrettably, we live at a time when some persons do not value all human life. They want to pick and choose which individuals have value.

So. What is the media saying about having a culture that has at its core the value of and respect for human life? Nothing. Zero. And one can feel fairly certain that the reason for this is because, but of course, what Reagan was saying is today thoroughly politically incorrect among the nation’s media elites. Put more bluntly, the American Left simply will not permit a discussion on abortion having a negative affect on American culture. Examples abound in the last few days.

My old CNN colleague Chris Cuomo, co-host of CNN’s New Day, as reported here at NewsBusters, went after “our leaders” for not appearing on New Day, making the argument that “they’re hiding from the reality and they’ll disguise it as sympathy and sensitivity. Wow, what an irony.’”

And here’s NBC’s Megyn Kelly laying the shooting, with the predictability of rain, on the NRA and guns. Said Kelly:

“No gun reforms are getting through. They’re not. And most of the ones that will be proposed in the wake of this shooting will be utterly meaningless and wouldn’t have even arguably prevented this killing. The NRA is too powerful. Our politicians are too weak. And the guns are too ubiquitous.”

After the Las Vegas shooting The Los Angeles Times oh-so bravely published this story, headlined: “‘Thoughts and prayers’ — and fistfuls of NRA money: Why America can’t control guns.”

The story began:

“There is no better example of the corrosive effect of money on American politics than the spending of the National Rifle Assn.

The gun rights organization spent a stupendous $54.4 million in the 2016 election cycle, almost all of it in “independent expenditures,” meaning spending for or against a candidate but not a direct contribution to a campaign. The money went almost entirely to Republicans to a degree that almost looks like a misprint (but isn’t): Of independent expenditures totaling $52.6 million, Democrats received $265. Yes, that’s 265 dollars.

If you’re looking for a reason that politicians are quick to declare that their “thoughts and prayers” are with the victims of the horrific slaughters that have become virtually routine in American life, but do nothing further to stop them, look no further.”

One could go on and on and on with a list of media figures saying some version of what Cuomo, Kelly and The Los Angeles Times are saying. One could also take the very same list to illustrate what all of them are afraid to say —  which would be the point Reagan was making a full 35 years ago. To wit:

“…Regrettably, we live at a time when some persons do not value all human life. They want to pick and choose which individuals have value.”

And why won’t Cuomo, Kelly or the Times discuss Reagan’s point? The answer is plain. Either they themselves believe in the abortion doctrines Reagan said were so damaging – or, if “pro-life” are terrified of saying so as they work among a media elite that holds Roe v. Wade as a veritable sacrament.

Take Kelly’s point and re-write it to reflect Reagan. The statement would then read:

“No abortion reforms are getting through. They’re not. And most of the ones that will be proposed in the wake of this shooting will be utterly meaningless and wouldn’t have even arguably prevented this killing. Planned Parenthood and special interest’s supporting abortion are too powerful. Our politicians are too weak. And the abortions- millions of them –  are too ubiquitous.”

Rush Limbaugh on Friday took some time to discuss the issue of political contributions. Saying this:

“I just checked the email.  I’m overflowing with people saying, “Rush, you don’t know what you’re talking about when you say the NRA is not among the largest of the political contributors! That’s just not right. That’s just not right.”  I can forgive all of you for thinking that the NRA is a major donor.  All of your life that’s how they’ve been portrayed in the media.  You think the NRA is the No. 1 donor for the Republican Party, probably.  You think the NRA is donating left and right.  The NRA has these politicians in their back pocket.

Well, let me give you the numbers: Between 1998 and 2017, the NRA spent $200 million on all political activities.  Ladies and gentlemen, that is 19 years, 20 years.  In 20 years, the NRA spent $200 million.  In 2016, alone, unions spent $1.7 billion on policy.  The NRA is not a major donor, and they are not running around with politicians in their back pockets.”

And the unions are, but of course, political allies of Planned Parenthood in contributing, supporting and electing pro-abortion Democrats.

Over at PolitiFact Wisconsin a part of the USA Today network and a partnership with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the site noted this when Wisconsin Republican Congressman Sean Duffy discussed the subject of pro-abortion money pouring into the coffers of their political favorites. Politifact rated Duffy’s statement on the flood of pro-abortion money “Mostly True” and said this:

“In the 2014 election cycle alone, Planned Parenthood-affiliated groups that can’t give directly to candidates or coordinate with them, such as Planned Parenthood Votes, a Super PAC, made over $6 million in independent expenditures.

That included $1.85 million spent in support of Democrats and $2.87 million spent against Republicans.

“In addition, Planned Parenthood’s PAC gave nearly $590,000 to congressional candidates, all of them Democrats.”

The numbers would be higher, of course, if previous cycles were included.”

That was just the 2014 cycle. On it went in 2016 and on it goes this minute. And when added to the money of other groups — unions, for example – that support “pro-choice” candidates the campaign contributions total over, yes, a billion dollars of contributions to supporters of the abortion agenda.

Will Cuomo, Kelly or the L.A. Times and other media figures focus on this? Of course not. Reagan’s point will be simply ignored – and hell will freeze over before Planned Parenthood and the other contributors to pro-choice candidates get the furious scrutiny of the NRA.

Is there a way out of this nightmare? Yes – and Fox’s Sean Hannity has suggested it. Hannity points out that media outlets where he has worked have security. As someone who has been on both Hannity radio and television shows – not to mention the full range of CNN shows – I can attest that one simply doesn’t get in the building without a security check.

Every time I showed up at CNN’s New York bureau there was armed security, and as with an airport, an X-ray scanner for the belongings of non-employees and a body scanner for everybody, employee or not. This procedure follows as well at government office buildings from the White House to the U.S. Capitol building to House and Senate offices. And, as mentioned, there is all that airport security, a direct result of 9/11.

Why in the world can’t this be done for America’s schools, Hannity asks. One suspects one knows the answer: the real media objective is to get rid of guns. Period.

The hard reality of the American media, as Rush Limbaugh pointed out yet again on Friday when discussing the Florida school shooting, is that it is filled not with journalists but liberal activists. Said Rush

“There’s also something happening here that is perfectly illustrating a point that I’ve been making for a couple of years. And that is that the American media has become the power center and the source of energy and guidance for the American left. Not the Democrat Party, but the media. The media gives the marching orders. The media are the activists. The media are not involved in news. The media are not reporting anything. The media have become full-fledged advocates of one particular thing.”

Which is exactly why Ronald Reagan’s long ago point about a culture that does “not value all human life” but rather wants to “pick and choose which individuals have value” will never be acknowledged by the liberal media, much less seriously discussed or acted upon as a serious societal and cultural reform. The media, in other words, demands and enforces silence on a serious cultural problem that can only enforce a would-be shooter’s idea that human life has no value.

A sad fact, but a fact nonetheless.

Another Washington Post Reporter Attacks President Trump Over Hospital Visit to Parkland School Shooting Victims

Another Washington Post Reporter Attacks President Trump Over Hospital Visit to Parkland School Shooting Victims

The Washington Post’s hatred of President Donald Trump is on full display this weekend as Post reporters attack Trump over his visit Friday night to Broward Health North Hospital where he and First Lady Melania visited with Parkland school shooting victims, their families and hospital staff. One reporter nastily wrote of Trump that he is a “president who can’t summon empathy and flees from grief”.

The White House blasted two Post reporters, Philip Rucker and Josh Dawsey, earlier Saturday for their attacks on Trump over his hospital visit.

Late Friday night yet another Post reporter, Nick Miroff, who covers national security and border/immigration issues, attacked Trump in very personal terms, writing on Twitter, “Devastating @jdawsey1 quick-sketch of a president who can’t summon empathy and flees from grief by lapsing into empty superlatives like “everyone is talking about it” Read to the kicker quote.”

Here are photos of President Trump failing to ‘summon empathy and fleeing from grief’ as the Post puts it.

I’m starting to detect a pattern in the male Post reporters’ bald hatred for President Trump.

Liberals try to claim Florida shooter was “trained by the NRA”

Since the Florida school shooting happened in an election year, liberals have been working valiantly to somehow tie the National Rifle Association to the tragedy. This isn’t a new phenomenon, but some of them seemed to think they’d struck gold when they found out about a marksmanship program operated at the school which the shooter previously belonged to. It turns out that the program received a grant to partially fund it from the NRA, leading to some hot take headlines which are melting down laptop and phone screens today. These include, “Nikolas Cruz was reportedly on an NRA-funded rifle team in high school” along with “The Florida gunman’s classmates just revealed the NRA paid for his marksmanship training.” Perhaps my favorite was, “Florida Shooter Competed On NRA Marksmanship Team.”

And the tweets… oh, boy, were there tweets.

That’s really amazing. What was the NRA doing hanging around at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School? Well… it turns out they weren’t. Those headlines are a bit more overblown than the way the Associated Press describes the situation, which is at least a bit more honest. The “rifle team” in question was actually a marksmanship program. And it wasn’t run by the NRA, but by the Army Junior ROTC. And the “rifles” were air-powered pellet guns. They did, however, receive a grant to operate the program and purchase equipment.

The troubled teen authorities say killed 17 people at a Florida high school excelled in an air-rifle marksmanship program supported by a grant from the National Rifle Association Foundation, part of a multimillion-dollar effort by the gun group to support youth shooting clubs and other programs.

Nikolas Cruz, 19, was wearing a maroon shirt with the logo from the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School when he was arrested Wednesday shortly after the shooting. Former JROTC cadets told The Associated Press that Cruz was a member of the small varsity marksmanship team that trained together after class and traveled to other area schools to compete.

The honest description would have been to say that the Army was running a training program, but I suppose that doesn’t make for as good of a fundraising letter. Getting these programs off the ground isn’t cheap, however, so they accepted a grant from the NRA, just as hundreds of schools across thirty states do every year. The NRA also offers grants to local gun clubs, Boy Scout troops and churches. One of their educational outreach programs where they actually do go to schools is for safety training, where Eddie Eagle helps teach younger children to never touch guns without parental supervision and to “run away” from them to avoid danger.

At Marjory Stoneman Douglas they used the NRA funds to supplement the small amount of money the JROTC gets from the U.S. Army. They used the NRA grant to purchase things such as safety glasses and Kevlar curtains. And just to stress this again, they use air rifles, similar to the ones you see the Olympic athletes firing in the biathlon.

So this isn’t “an NRA program.” And the NRA didn’t “train the shooter.” But don’t let a little thing like facts stand in your way when you’re trying to do some fundraising.

Report: New FEC Proposal Calls for Greater Transparency in Online Political Advertisements

Report: New FEC Proposal Calls for Greater Transparency in Online Political Advertisements

A new proposal calling for greater transparency surrounding the sponsors of online politicals advertisements will be considered by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) next month.

According to Bloomberg, Facebook and Google could both be affected by the proposal, which was written by FEC Commissioner and Democrat Ellen Weintraub, and “would require online advertisements to carry the same disclaimers from their sponsors as do radio, television and print ads.”

The Federal Election Commission “will consider the framework, known as a notice of proposed rule making, at its next public hearing on March 8.”

The proposal comes after claims that Russian attempted to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

On Friday, 13 Russian nationals were charged, under the authority of Robert Mueller, with attempting to influence American elections.

“There is no allegation in this indictment that any American was a knowing participant in this illegal activity,” claimed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who added, “There is no allegation in the indictment that the charged conduct altered the outcome of the 2016 election.”

London’s ‘Modest’ Fashion Show Celebrates Sharia-Compliant Clothing Weeks After Women Burn Hijabs in Iran

London’s ‘Modest’ Fashion Show Celebrates Sharia-Compliant Clothing Weeks After Women Burn Hijabs in Iran

London Modest Fashion Week will “celebrate” Britain’s growing sharia-compliant fashion industry — less than two weeks after women living under Islamic fundamentalist regimes risked imprisonment when they burnt their hijabs on No Hijab Day.

Described as an “exciting addition to the London fashion calendar” and “a celebration of style and global cultures”, London Modest Fashion Week will showcase “modest style” lines on the catwalk this weekend.

The show will also put on a sharia legal clinic and zakat (religious tax) hub at the Victoria House, Bloomsbury Square, venue.

Organised by the Islamic clothing curator Haute Elan, the fashion website’s founder Romanna Bint-Abubaker said in 2017: “The fastest growing global consumer is at the moment the Muslim market.

“One in three people by 2030 will be a Muslim in the world — that’s a huge population.”

Last year’s inaugural show was sponsored by the makeup brand Illamasqua which promised would “never knowingly sell” their products to supporters of U.S. President Donald J. Trump. This year, it is sponsored by the major American haircare brand TRESammé.

Promotional video from 2017’s London Modest Fashion Week

Labelling sharia-compliant clothing “modest” begs the question whether women who do not comply with Islamic fundamentalist rules — and are ‘insufficiently’ covered — are deemed “immodest”.

Less than two weeks ago, social media was dominated by pictures and videos of women in Middle Eastern countries with strict legal dress codes burning their Islamic headscarves, or hijabs, accompanied by the hashtag #NoHijabDay.

The protests were in support of Iranian women demonstrating against the legally mandated headscarf that has been part of the Islamic Republic’s dress code since the country’s Islamic fundamentalist revolution in 1979.

Breitbart London revealed that the British government was promoting the “liberation” of the Islamic veil by encouraging Foreign and Commonwealth Office staff to wear the garment, issuing free hijabs on World Hijab Day (February 1st).

Last week, the government came under fire over hijabs in British culture again, after the former head of the schools’ watchdog Ofsted criticised the Department of Education for being too politically correct to support headteachers attempting to ban Islamic hijabs for underaged girls.

Retailers have been embracing the “Muslim market” with British department store chain House of Fraser launching “sporty hijabs” in 2015, high street leader Marks & Spencer selling the sharia-approved swimwear the burkini in 2016, and major retailer Debenhams adding Islamic headscarves and other ‘modest-wear’ to their ladies’ fashion line in 2017.

The cosmetic industry has also reorientated its market focus towards Muslims when L’Oréal Paris UK hired the Instagram personality Amena Khan, who covers her hair completely with a hijab, to headline an ad campaign for hair care products in January. Khan later stepped down after anti-Israel posts from her Twitter account surfaced.

Activist Group Launches Nationwide Voter Registration Campaign at ‘Black Panther’ Screenings

Activist Group Launches Nationwide Voter Registration Campaign at ‘Black Panther’ Screenings

An effort called #WakandaTheVote meant to ramp up black voter registration kicked off this week at several screenings of Marvel’s blockbuster superhero film Black Panther.

“This weekend we wanted to meet our people in Wakanda,” Electoral Justice Project (EJP) founders Kayla Reed and Jessica Byrd told Blavity of the voter drive initiative.  which is a project by the Movement for Black Lives that aims to fight for and advance the rights of black Americans.

“We know that for some it’s a superhero world, but we know that the world we deserve is still waiting to be built — and we want to build it! This upcoming spring and November 2018 midterm elections are an important step in building that new world, and we want to take every opportunity to engage our communities in the conversation of electoral justice,” the activists said. “We will be registering people to vote at movie theaters across the country so that we can #wakandathevote at the ballot box.”

Electoral Justice Project is a project by the Movement for Black Lives, which is, according to its website, “a collective of more than 50 organizations representing thousands of Black people from across the country have come together with renewed energy and purpose to articulate a common vision and agenda.” The group demands, among other things, “reparations for harms inflicted on black people.”

The #wakandathevote asks eligible supporters to text PANTHER to 91990 to create “your own event.”

“Over 1,000 people joined our launch call, and we’ve been building out an exciting campaign ever since,” Reed and Byrd told the website.

Black Panther stars Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Sterling K. Brown, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis, and hit theaters on February 16. Read Breitbart News’ John Nolte’s review of the film here.

Nolte: CNN Lies by Saying Ted Cruz ‘Afraid’ to Talk About School Shooting

CNN taunted Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for refusing to do an interview–while hiding a 15-minute interview Cruz had already done with CNN.

On Thursday afternoon, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke to the far-left CNN for 15 minutes about the Parkland school shooting massacre and his specific ideas about preventing future massacres. Nevertheless, hours after Cruz recorded that interview, CNN anti-Trump pundit Chris Cuomo publicly taunted Cruz as a coward for not talking to CNN.

“If Cruz thinks gun control improvement is not the answer, what is?” the left-wing Cuomo tweeted hours after Cruz recorded the interview. “Ask the question, Senator: what are we going to do to stop school shootings? Don’t just say what won’t work, work to find an answer!”

Linked to Cuomo’s frantic and confusing tweet was a Hill article reporting on Cuomo’s bullying of Cruz earlier that same day: “Chris Cuomo names GOP lawmakers on-air who wouldn’t come on CNN after shooting,” the Hill’s headline reads before quoting Cuomo directly, stating, “What are they afraid of?”:

To his credit, Cruz was having none of it. On Friday, using his own Twitter account, the Texas senator linked Cuomo’s fake news-taunt and wrote, “That’s funny, I spoke to CNN for 15 mins yesterday about proactive solutions to prevent gun violence … yet CNN has aired NONE of it. Why not air the (entire) interview?”

As proof, Cruz included a picture taken of him during the interview, along with this comment: “Here’s a pic of the @CNN interview — a 15-min exclusive given yesterday — that y’all still haven’t aired… (While falsely claiming I’m “afraid” to talk to CNN.)”:

The manic Cuomo then attempted to move the goalposts.

“Cruz and others were invited to come on [my show, New Day] and be tested about how to stop these shootings. They declined,” Cuomo explained. “If Cruz or others did an intv with Cnn thereafter fine, but they didn’t when we asked. Period. Offer stands. Anytime. Anywhere”:

Cuomo’s neurotic response can only be interpreted as trashing his own network for not “testing” Cruz in the way Cuomo believes he personally would have “tested” Cruz. One wonders if Cuomo would have made that insulting insinuation if the CNN reporter interviewing Cruz was a man instead of a woman.

But it was not just Cuomo taunting Cruz. The pro-North Korea CNN itself joined the bullying with this on-air graphic that was later dropped on social media by CNN anti-Trump pundit Brian Stelter:

Even more troubling is the fact that the CNN graphic and Cuomo’s claim that Cruz chickened out on a New Day appearance appears to also be fake news. According to Cruz staffer Catherine Frazier, what CNN, Cuomo, and Stelter are covering up is the fact that Cruz was not even asked to appear on New Day until 8:11 a.m., 49 minutes before the last-place show ended:

By asking Cruz to come on at the last possible second, and when you consider CNN’s history of using proven lies and extremist rhetoric to gin up hate against Republicans, it is not unfair to wonder if CNN deliberately tried to set Cruz up to attack him with the fake news the he is a coward for not coming on.

Why else would CNN hide the Cruz interview and allow these attacks to continue even after Cruz had already done the interview?

CNN’s sitting on the Cruz interview while taunting Cruz for not doing an interview is nothing less than a partisan dirty trick.

The pro-gun control Cuomo, who is widely viewed as not very bright, and who is sometimes mocked with the nickname “Fredo,” is also attacking those he derisively refers to as the “thoughts and prayers crowd”:

Cuomo even retweeted someone quoting him (Cuomo) as saying on-air, “What kind of prayer is one that promises to do nothing”?

Cuomo identifies as a Catholic. How, then, he can see the act of praying as “doing nothing,” he has yet to explain.

Cuomo’s shrill and shameless grandstanding might have something to do with New Day‘s humiliating ratings: Total Average Viewers: New Day 565,000/Morning Joe 1.095 million/Fox and Friends 1.501 million

In all of cable on Tuesday, New Day‘s best showing was during its 9 a.m. ET hour. Nevertheless, only 669,000 people tuned in, and the hour ranked 95th.

By comparison, on MSNBC, Morning Joe‘s earliest hour, 6 a.m. ET, snagged 1.095 million viewers and ranked 86th. Fox & Friends ranked 54th and attracted a whopping 1.826 million viewers at 9 a.m. — nearly tripling the faltering Cuomo.

CNN itself is in major ratings trouble. The anti-Trump cable channel lost a whopping -30 percent of its primetime viewers and has fallen way behind MSNBC and Fox News.

It would appear as though the only thing politicians need be “afraid of” when it comes to appearing on CNN is 1) not being seen at all and 2) being sandbagged by CNN’s abiding affection for spreading fake news.

NRA Chief of Staff: Pro-Athletes and ‘Political Class’ Have Armed Protection; Why Not Our Children?

Hawkins — NRA Chief of Staff: Pro-Athletes and ‘Political Class’ Have Armed Protection; Why Not Our Children?

NRA Chief of Staff Josh Powell pointed out during the February airing of Grant Stinchfield on NRATV that the “political class” and pro-athletes have armed protection; why not our children?

Powell said:

It’s time we get serious. We need to get very serious about how we’re going to protect our kids, the measures that need to be put in place. The awful irony of this is when you look at athletes, celebrities, the political class, all of these people have security, and many of them have armed security. So the question is, at what point are we going to get serious enough about protecting our children and give the protections that all these other groups get?

His point is clear when considering that Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School had one armed resource officer on duty when the February 14 attack occurred. That means only one good guy with a gun was there to protect a campus of more than 3,000 students.

How many pro-athletic events are protected by only one armed guard? How many gatherings of the political class? How many Golden Globes Award ceremonies?

The answer to all these questions is easy: none.

The NFL and NBA would not dream of holding an event without layers of armed protection around and within the event. The political class would never entertain a gathering en mass without layer upon layer of armed protection, combined with pre-planned, protected means and routes of escape should an attack occur. And Hollywood elites, many of whom spend their off-camera minutes bashing the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense, enjoy gathering for award ceremonies that are protected by good guys with “machine guns,” “high capacity” magazines, armored transport vehicles, bomb-sniffing dogs, and more.

Yet more than 3,000 students and their teachers sat in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with only one armed resource officer in place.

It is inhuman to demand that educators be sitting ducks?

Sarah Palin on Florida School Shooting: ‘We Need to Discuss the Failure of the FBI,’ Not Second Amendment

Sarah Palin on Florida School Shooting: ‘We Need to Discuss the Failure of the FBI,’ Not Second Amendment

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin offered comments about Wednesday’s mass murder at a Florida high school when she spoke with Breitbart News’s Senior Editor-at-Large Rebecca Mansour on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight on Friday. “It’s not a Second Amendment gun issue at all,” Palin said, adding, “What needs to be discussed is the failure of the FBI.”

Incompetence at the FBI — not agitation against the Second Amendment — should be a national focus related to the mass shooting in Florida, said Palin.

Adding to that assertion, Palin stated, “What needs to be discussed is the failure of the FBI. This kid who murdered all these innocent people could not have waved more red flags in front of law enforcement’s face – all those things that he did with posts, with his threats. Law enforcement called 39 times in the last number of years at his family’s home. There were so many red flags. I’m embarrassed for the FBI. The rank and file guys and gals, they work so hard. It’s the top brass. It’s a matter of priorities in the FBI, and that’s where I think the discussion needs to go.”

Since 2010, local law enforcement had been called to the family home of shooter Nikolas Cruz, according to CNN:

Broward sheriff’s deputies were called to the Cruz family home 39 times since 2010, according to documents obtained by CNN.

The sheriff’s office received a range of emergency calls that included reports of a mentally ill person, child/elderly abuse, a domestic disturbance and a missing person.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Friday there were 20 calls for service over the past “few years” pertaining to Nikolas Cruz.

Cruz regularly expressed his interest in violence and mass murder, both online and in person.

One acquaintance who knew Cruz from elementary school spoke with Miami’s CBS affiliate: “He recalled Cruz stealing peoples’ [sic] mail, throwing rocks at cars and tormenting animals. He described one incident in which he said Cruz “cornered a squirrel and was trying to throw rocks at it and kill it.”

Cruz also regularly introduced himself to people as “a school shooter.” His online comments include, “I wanna shoot people with my AR-15” and “Im going to be a professional school shooter.”

Florida Gov. Rick Scott called on FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign for “failure to take action” to prevent Cruz’s mass murder, issuing a statement:

The FBI’s failure to take action against this killer is unacceptable. The FBI has admitted that they were contacted last month by a person who called to inform them of Cruz’s “desire to kill people,” and “the potential of him conducting a school shooting.”

Seventeen innocent people are dead and acknowledging a mistake isn’t going to cut it. An apology will never bring these 17 Floridians back to life or comfort the families who are in pain. The families will spend a lifetime wondering how this could happen, and an apology will never give them the answers they desperately need.

We constantly promote “see something, say something,” and a courageous person did just that to the FBI. And the FBI failed to act. “See something, say something” is an incredibly important tool and people must have confidence in the follow through from law enforcement. The FBI director needs to resign.

“This is such a failure. There are 17 people dead, and it could have been prevented,” said Mansour.

Supreme Court holds private meeting to discuss Trump’s appeal on DACA decision

The U.S. Supreme Court privately discussed on Friday how to handle President Donald Trump’s appeal of a judge’s decision to block his plan to end protections for so-called Dreamers, Yahoo News reported.

A decision on whether the nine justices will take up the case could come as early as Tuesday, the report stated.

The Trump administration is appealing a Jan. 9 ruling by U.S. District Judge William Alsup that stopped the president’s order to end DACA. The program protects young adults who entered the country illegally. It also provides them with permits and other benefits.

Why is this happening?

Lawmakers have been unable to agree on DACA, and their last attempt at legislation on the matter failed in the Senate on Thursday. Former President Barack Obama implemented DACA in 2012.

If the Supreme Court hears the appeal by the Trump administration, a ruling would not likely happen until late June, Yahoo News reported. If they reject the appeal, Alsup’s nation-wide injunction against the president’s plan will stand as other legal challenges to Trump’s action move forward.

What happens in the meantime?

Trump’s order would cause DACA to be phased out March 5. But the injunction, if it remains in place, would allow DACA beneficiaries to reapply for protections, Yahoo News reported.

A second U.S. judge on Tuesday issued a similar injunction that orders the Trump administration to retain DACA.

Democrats and some Republicans have vigorously pushed to protect the Dreamers.

Trump’s move to end DACA led to legal challenges from Democratic state attorneys, and other organizations and individuals, Yahoo News stated. Trump’s administration maintains that Obama overreached his power by bypassing Congress when establishing DACA.

The president has backed legislation to give dreamers citizenship but also cuts back on legal immigration.

DACA allowed about 700,000 young adults receive protections for two years. After that time, they must reapply.

About 1.8 million people are eligible for DACA, according to the report.
