Trump Says He’s Sending in the Feds – Smollett & Foxx Better Get Ready

President Donald Trump said the FBI and Department of Justice will investigate the dropped charges against actor Jussie Smollett, who apparently orchestrated a hate crime and filed a false police report.

“FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago. It is an embarrassment to our Nation!” Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

Under normal circumstances, the FBI shouldn’t investigate stupid prosecutorial decisions, but this is not a normal circumstance.

Smollett’s case reeks of potential corruption, and it was a state prosecutor who let him off the hook.

Smollett was charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct after a police investigation into his allegedly fake hate crime, but the office of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx dropped the charges Tuesday.

“I believe that the outcome — him having to forfeit the $10,000, having to do community service, based on the allegations, and again the (low-level) felony and no (criminal) background, are an outcome that we could expect with this type of case,” Foxx said Wednesday, defending her staff’s decision.

But the decision by Foxx’s office was immediately criticized by several officials, from the mayor of Chicago to the Chicago Police Department.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel slammed the prosecutor’s decision as a “whitewash of justice” and openly asked, “Is there no decency in this man?”

And Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson bluntly said he doesn’t think justice was served.

“You all know where I stand on this. Do I think justice was served? No,” Johnson said. “What do I think justice is? I think this city is still owed an apology.”

“They chose to hide behind secrecy and broker a deal to circumvent the judicial system.”

To make the case sound even more fishy, a court order stopped Chicago police from releasing documents about the case.

It’s obvious to many individuals — from Chicago police officers, to Chicago’s mayor to the president of the United States — that Smollett is getting away with an apparent heinous hoax.

It shouldn’t have gotten to this point, but Trump will try to ensure that Smollett is brought to justice.

Cory Booker Tells Woman At CNN Townhall We Need Medicare-For-All. There’s Just One Problem.

Democrats vying for the 2020 presidential nomination have really gotten behind the idea that our healthcare system is broken and needs to be fixed, and that the fix is “Medicare-for-all.” Forget that just a decade ago Democrats completely overhauled the healthcare system claiming Obamacare was the answer to all our problems, but here we are.

Parkland Teacher Blasts School District, Local Officials, Media for Politicizing Shooting, Not Helping Kids

A math teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., lambasted local officials and the national media Wednesday for using the 2018 shooting there to focus on gun control while skimping on mental-health resources for traumatized survivors.

"Parkland should go down in history as a case study in local incompetence aided and abetted by national partisan-driven coverage," teacher Kimberly Krawczyk wrote on the education news site The 74. "It seemed like everyone — from the Grammys to ESPN — was celebrating how strong our students were. But no one stopped to ask if they were actually all right."

Krawczyk blasted the national media for focusing on gun control and opposition to the NRA in the aftermath of the shooting. CNN, MSNBC, and other national outlets heavily promoted that message after such as organizations such as Everytown for Gun Safety helped bring some of the survivors to prominence in the movement for gun control.

CNN won a Cronkite Award for its town hall immediately after, which strongly favored the gun control argument and used students who had survived to promote the cause. Tragically, two students have committed suicide since the shooting, and Krawczyk blamed the lack of resources offered to traumatized students.

The Broward County School District provided "elementary school counselors who had no background in trauma counseling," failing to give students privacy with counselors, Krawczyk wrote. School district officials turned their focus to a #MSDStrong campaign that drew national attention, but, Krawczyk said, only further harmed students by requiring them to "be strong." She also stated CNN would have better served the two Parkland students who took their own lives by shining a light on conditions in the school instead of ginning up partisan outrage:

CNN just won the Cronkite Award for its town hall on the Parkland shooting and gun control. If it had instead sent a camera crew into the school, I think Sydney Aiello and Calvin Desir might still be with us.

One look at the school’s media center in the weeks after the massacre would have revealed that the "care" provided by the Broward County School District was only reinforcing the trauma.

The school district filled the room with elementary school counselors who had no background in trauma counseling and told students seek help there if they wanted. The school district did not solicit the advice of mental health experts or implement a basic standard of care. There weren’t even privacy curtains. If a student tried to talk but broke down and cried, everyone could see.

District officials were distracted by their desire to craft a political narrative around the shooting, Krawczyk said.

"So much suffering could have been mitigated if our local leaders focused more on getting kids the help they needed and less on trying to craft a national political narrative," she wrote.

Krawczyk said the school district is guilty of lying, spinning, and even threatening local news outlets for reporting on their mistakes.

"School district leaders falsely labeled facts about what went wrong as ‘fake news’ and put all the blame on the National Rifle Association," she wrote.

She also quoted at length a mother of a student who was injured but survived the shooting. The mom said the district was worried about photo ops rather than being there for her son:

Photo ops and press conferences seem to be the district’s focus, rather than focusing on those who are suffering. … Is some guidance on how the students can return to their classes after seeing their classmates murdered too much to ask? … This district should really be embarrassed. … Even the president of the United States, the first lady, the governor, the attorney general, the chief of staff and a senator had the time to hug my son. But not my school district, and not my son’s principal.

While gun control has been the preferred topic of the national media regarding the Parkland shooting, much of the local news has been about the mishandling of the attack by law enforcement. Sheriff’s deputies did not go into the school to intervene, and Sheriff Scott Israel was fired by the governor after a drawn-out series of recriminations, including a state report showing officers had been untruthful in statements about their response to the shooting.

Along with Krawczyk’s article, The 74 published a response by the Broward County School District, which argues it provided adequate resources to students and teachers.

"The Broward County School District responds that it focused on the wellness of students, faculty, families and the community immediately after the shooting, and continues to assess the needs of students across the county and address those needs," the statement reads.

"Our district continues to assess the needs of students across the county and to leverage all available resources to address those needs."

Krawczyk concluded her piece by imploring reporters to handle shootings differently in the future.

"The next time there’s a school shooting, please look into what’s actually happening at the school after. Kids’ lives will depend on it," she wrote.

"And on behalf of all Marjory Stoneman Douglas students, teachers and parents, I hope the district will finally take mental health seriously, so that these two senseless suicides don’t mark the start of an epidemic."

Another Virginia Democrat Accused of Misconduct

Another high-ranking Virginia Democrat is facing accusations of misconduct.

The Washington Post reported on Thursday that L. Douglas Wilder, the first African-American elected governor of Virginia, is accused of sexual harassment by a woman more than 60-years his junior.

Sydney Black, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University, alleged the former governor attempted to kiss her without consent in 2017 while she was an office assistant at the university’s L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.

Black alleges the harassment occurred after Wilder took her dinner to celebrate her 20th birthday. According to Black’s account, Wilder ordered alcohol for both of them during the meal, despite acknowledging she was underage. Afterward, Wilder extended an invite to his apartment, where the non-consensual kiss allegedly occurred.

"He reached over and put his hand on my right leg, and I just kind of looked at him, and as soon as I looked at him, he kissed me on my mouth," Black said. "I immediately jerked away."

Shortly after the incident, the former governor told Black that funding for her position at the Wilder School had run out. Wilder, who left the governorship in 1994 but remains involved in Virginia politics, is a distinguished professor at the school with an annual salary of $150,000.

VCU’s campus police were first made aware of the incident in December. Black, who is herself African-American, told the Post she felt forced "to choose" between "being a woman" or "being black" when deciding to speak out. VCU has opened a Title IX investigation into the matter.

The allegations against Wilder come as Virginia’s statewide Democratic leadership is embroiled in scandal. Gov. Ralph Northam has resisted widespread calls for his resignation since it was made public that his medical school yearbook page includes a photo of two individuals in racist costumes—one in blackface and another in Ku Klux Klan garb. Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, initially praised by Democrats as a worthy successor should Northam resign, faces his own allegations of sexual assault from two women. Meanwhile, Attorney General Mark Herring is also under fire for wearing blackface in the 1980s while in college.

Wilder had previously called on Northam to resign in the wake of his yearbook revelation, but has refrained from discussing the accusations against Fairfax.

Dem Offices Remove POW Flags, Replace With Transgender Pride Flags

Multiple Democratic offices on Capitol Hill have replaced their flags memorializing prisoners of war with transgender pride flags, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

The changes came at the urging of the National Center for Transgender Equality, which is delivering flags to congressional offices in advance of International Transgender Day of Visibility. Among the members to make the switch was Rep. Kim Schrier (D., Wash.), who replaced the POW flag she had displayed outside her office with a transgender pride flag.

The first picture is of the outside of Schrier’s office from a January Facebook post, while the second is from earlier this week. The name plates appear different because Schrier, who is a doctor, later had "M.D." added after her name.

Staffers from the office of Rep. Pete Aguilar (D., Calif.) were spotted attempting to pull their office’s POW flag out of its stand on Wednesday. A source told the Washington Free Beacon that Aguilar’s office initially tried to remove the POW flag, was unsuccessful, then managed to remove it soon after.

The picture below shows the pink, white, and blue transgender flag on the right side of the door of Aguilar’s office.

Rep. Tim Ryan (D., Ohio) also replaced the POW flag with the transgender flag. The first picture is from a March 12 tweet, while the second is from a March 27 tweet. In the first photo, the POW flag is to the right of the Ohio state flag, while in the second photo, the transgender flag has taken its place.

The offices for Schrier, Aguilar, and Ryan did not respond to requests for comment.

Several other offices have hung transgender pride flags outside of their offices this week in advance of International Transgender Day of Visibility on Sunday, The Hill reports. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), Rep. Alexandria  Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.), and Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D., Va.) are among the other members of Congress who also placed the flags outside their offices.

A Republican office on the Hill reached out to the Washington Free Beacon to say it was also asked to replace their POW flag with the transgender pride flag. The change was not made.

Not all Democrats who put up the transgender pride flag removed the POW flag. Rep. Adam Smith (D., Wash.), for example, placed the transgender pride flag and POW flag next to each other.

Likewise, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D., Ariz.) also hung up the transgender pride flag on her door and chose to leave the POW flag displayed.

Schiff Fundraises Off Calls for His Resignation From Trump, Republicans

Rep. Adam Schiff (D., Calif.) sent out a fundraising email midday Thursday in the face of increasing calls for his resignation from President Trump and other top Republicans in the wake of the release of the Mueller report that indicated Trump and his campaign did not collude with Russia during the 2016 election.

The email came less than three hours after all Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee asked for his resignation as the chairman, a role Schiff has had since Democrats won a majority after the 2018 elections.

And earlier on Thursday, President Trump called for Schiff’s complete resignation from Congress.

"The right-wing attacks on Adam have reached a whole new level," the Schiff email begins. "Yesterday during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, President Trump declared that Adam should be ‘forced out of office.’ This morning, he tweeted the same and called Adam a ‘liar’ and a ‘leaker.’"

"This is an all-hands-on-deck moment right now," it continued. "Can you pitch in $5 or whatever you can to show Adam that the people stand with him?"

"There’s one reason and one reason only Adam faces these attacks and smears from the president, and that’s because he is working to hold the president accountable to the people."

In two other fundraising emails sent out by Schiff’s congressional campaign after the release of the Mueller report, the ten-term Congressman had steered clear of presidential politics, instead focusing on health care policy and protecting a group of newly-elected Democrat representatives from California.

A review of the political ads purchased by his congressional campaign committee on Facebook show that Schiff has tried to build his email database by asking for support for a bill he is running dealing with the presidential pardon power, but those ads came before the release of the Mueller report.

"It’s time we show Trump he cannot get away with pardoning his friends and interfering in the Special Counsel’s investigation: add your name if you agree," one of those ads says.

Schiff FB fundraiser

Even after the release of the Mueller report, the Washington Post quoted Schiff saying, "Undoubtedly there is collusion."

The California Democrat’s profile rose significantly in the wake of the numerous inquiries launched on Capitol Hill shortly after the 2016 election.

Roughly six months after Trump’s inauguration, Schiff had made so many appearances on cable news to discuss the Russia investigation, a tracking report provided to the White House showed Schiff had managed slightly more than 14 hours of television interview time.

"Democrats are tripping over themselves to see who can get the most TV time to talk about the Russia investigation," Republican National Committee Spokeswoman Ronna Romney McDaniel told the Washington Free Beacon at the time. "It is shocking that Rep. Schiff and Sen. Warner have combined for more than 180 interviews and over 20 hours of TV time since inauguration day."

Schiff’s leadership PAC also provides an indication of how much his profile has risen since Trump became president.

"In the six election cycles prior to 2018, Schiff’s leadership PAC took in a grand total of over $289,000," the Free Beacon reported earlier this year. "In the 2018 cycle, the same PAC took in $654,000, more than double all the other cycles combined."
