American Thinker’s scoop on Trump getting Port of Long Beach out of Chicom hands getting noticed

Here’s an impressive quiet accomplishment from the Trump administration now noted by Judicial Watch:

Under a long-term deal sealed by the Obama administration, a Chinese Communist company was set to control the second-busiest container port in the United States. In an unreported Trump administration victory, the Communists are out after a drawn-out national security review forced a unit of China-based COSCO Shipping Holdings Co. (Orient Overseas Container Line—OOCL) to sell the cherished container terminal business, which handles among the largest freight of imports into the U.S.

It all started with a 40-year container terminal lease between the Port of Long Beach in southern California and Hong Kong. The Obama administration proudly signed the agreement in 2012 giving China control of America’s second-largest container port behind the nearby Port of Los Angeles. One of the Trump administration’s first big moves was to get the Communists out of the Port of Long Beach. After a national security review and federal intervention, the Long Beach terminal business, which handles millions of containers annually, is finally being sold to an Australian company called Macquarie Infrastructure Partners. That essentially kills China’s decades-long contract with the Obama administration.

The watchdog group didn’t say, but that news came about in May, and was brilliantly reported by American Thinker contributor, Chriss Street.

The Obama administration had no problems with OOCL signing a 40-year lease with the City of Long Beach in 2012 for control of America’s second largest and most automated container handling operation.  The sweetheart deal was part of the “Middle Harbor Redevelopment Program” to fund a $1.5-billion expansion through 2020.

But one of the first major actions of the Trump administration’s Department of Homeland Security in March 2017 was issuing a “Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S.” national security hold on Cosco’s acquisition of a former U.S. Navy port facility.

I wasn’t the editor for the piece, and didn’t see the story until it went up, but now can’t resist throwing in at this late date that I was actually there, at the Port of Long Beach, at the 2012 handover, at the time as an editorial journalist for Investor’s Business Daily, and saw the opening firsthand.

Democrats turning California into a third-world hellhole: Going without electricity edition

Democrats are turning California into a third-world hellhole without electricity, water, and freedom.

Due to Democrats’ love for trees, at least 800,000 Californians will be without power for several days.  Instead of properly managing California forests to reduce the chances of big fires, Democrats are saying Californians have to go without lights, refrigerators, and air-conditioning.  Democrats could also avoid this by not making the power company financially liable for all forest fire damages, but since PG&E is a company, not an illegal alien, the Democrats couldn’t care less about doing what’s best for California.

While they try to blame climate change and the infrastructure, the reality is that neither of those has caused any significant changes in the last ten years — but now, suddenly, due to Democrat policies, Californians have to start living in the 18th century.

The Democrats who run California also refuse to build more water storage capacity even though the state’s population has dramatically increased, ensuring that water has to be rationed during droughts.

Democrats are turning California into a third-world country economically.  The income inequality between the über-rich Silicon Valley workers and the rest of Californians is huge, just like in third-world countries, while the elites live in luxury and the rest live in squalor. 

Democrats are doing a great job manufacturing poverty and homelessness even as they fail to instill hope in Californians.

California has four times more homeless per capita and three times more poor per capita than the rest of America.  Half the homeless in America are in California, even though California has only 12% of the U.S. population.  Also, blacks are six times more prevalent in the San Francisco homeless population than they are in California in general.

The homeless explosion has brought the return of third-world diseases like typhus to California — not to mention streets littered with human feces.

Democrats are trying to keep people from having cars, just like the people of the Third World.  After all, a car gives people the freedom to move, and freedom is a bad thing in the minds of Democrats since it limits the power the government has over citizens.

Recently, Gavin Newsom, the Democrat governor, transferred millions of dollars that the voters had been ensured would go to improve the state’s failing road infrastructure to a fund designed to convince Californians to give up their cars.

Democrats are also working to make cars unaffordable for any but the richest Californians.

Californians pay $1.53 more for a gallon for gasoline than the rest of America.  That’s $21 more for a tank of gasoline.  Facebook employees won’t notice it, but the poor in California who can’t afford to live near their jobs are paying through the teeth.

Like all third-world tyrants, Democrats are doing everything they can to eliminate democracy in California.

The jungle primary, where the top two candidates in the primaries go against each other, has resulted in many races where two Democrats are running against each other, giving voters who don’t agree with the Democrats’ failed policies no one to vote for.

California is doing nothing to ensure that people who shouldn’t vote don’t vote.  Instead, the people running the state are doing everything possible to let illegal aliens vote.  When illegal aliens go pick up their driver’s licenses, they’re automatically enrolled to vote unless they say they’re not citizens.

California is also trying to end democracy by keeping the Republican presidential candidate off the ballot.  Democrats passed an unconstitutional law to keep any candidate who didn’t release his tax returns off the ballot solely to keep Californians from voting for Trump.

Finally, the Democrats are going after freedom of the press.  An undercover journalist revealed that Planned Parenthood was selling aborted baby parts.  Instead of investigating that illegal practice, Democrat Kamala Harris decided to put the journalist on trial.

Democrats keep telling us California is the future if they get elected.  That means that poverty, homelessness, the end of democracy, and a press that reports only what Democrats want heard are what Democrats are promising us.

If you’re an immensely wealthy Google employee, California is Heaven.  If you’re not, it’s becoming more and more like Hell.

Ukrainian Lawmaker Says Joe Biden Took $900k from Burisma While Still in Office, Claims To Have Documents Proving It

How much do you trust a Ukrainian lawmaker with unverified documents who unveiled them to the world at a news conference hosted by a Russian-owned news agency?

If you’re Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, you trust them quite a bit. If you’re a partisan of former 2020 Democratic front-runner Joe Biden, you likely trust them not at all.

If one side is completely right here, it could have a major effect on the 2020 presidential race.

On Wednesday, Andriy Derkach, a member of Ukraine’s Parliament, held a news conference hosted by wire service Interfax-Ukraine. In it, he accused former Vice President Joe Biden of accepting almost $1 million for consulting services from Ukraine energy giant Burisma while he was in office.

(Burisma, for those making their domiciles under rocks, is the company that paid Biden’s son Hunter $50,000 a month to serve on its board.)

Wednesday night, appearing on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani brought up Derkach’s claims to buttress his case that the Bidens had been up to some dirty dealing in the former Soviet republic.

“Biden, his son and his brother had a 30-year-long scam to make money, millions, selling his public office,” Giuliani said.

“Do you think we’re going to hear [from] the press that a member of the parliament in Ukraine held a press conference today and — name was Andriy Derkach, you won’t hear this on the news, ladies and gentlemen, because they censor it, you only get the news the Dems want you to hear — Derkach publicized documents which he said described the mechanisms for getting money by Biden Sr.”

Giuliani then quoted Derkach during the news conference:

“This was the transfer of funds for lobbying activities, as investigators believe, to Joe Biden through a lobbying company,” he said.

“Funds in the amount of $900,000 were transferred to the U.S.-based company Rosemont Seneca, which according to open sources is affiliated with Biden. The payment reference was for consultative services.”

Giuliani went on to describe some of Derkach’s further comments — which, taken in full, seemed pretty damning.

According to Interfax-Ukraine, Derkach said: “According to the documents, Burisma paid no less than $16.5 million to [former Polish President, who became an independent director at Burisma Holdings in 2014] Aleksander Kwasniewski, [chairman of the Burisma board of independent directors] Alan Apter, [Burisma independent director] Devon Archer and Hunter Biden [who joined the Burisma board of directors in 2014].

“Using political and economic levelers of influencing Ukrainian authorities and manipulating the issue of providing financial aid to Ukraine, Joe Biden actively assisted closing criminal cases into the activity of former Ukrainian Ecology Minister Mykola Zlochevsky, who is the founder and owner of Burisma Group.”

On “Hannity,” Giuliani expanded on that.

“Let me tell you who Mykola Zlochevsky is,” Giuliani said. “He’s a major oligarch. He stole $5 billion from his people. He very suspiciously was allowed to come back [to Ukraine]. His case got dismissed when they dismissed Hunter Biden’s case [involving Burisma] … This guy’s one of the major criminals in the Ukraine and he’s now walking around free because Joe Biden got the case dismissed.”

Biden said the Justice Department should take the Ukraine accusations seriously.

“This case stinks. They can run away from it all they want,” Giuliani added.

Obviously, accepting this kind of gift from a state-run company during his time as vice president would be incredibly illegal and a major new twist in the Biden case — something that Giuliani no doubt knew when he brought it up on Hannity’s show.

It’s also a difficult sell when you consider the source. It’s not just the fact that the story is a hard one to believe. Even with new leadership, Ukraine isn’t necessarily known as being corruption-free — or the kind of place where a blockbuster story about corruption can be believed on its own merits.

The fact that this happened at a news conference hosted by a Russian-run wire service seems more than a bit sketchy, particularly when you consider the fact that the motive behind the news conference seemed to be exculpating Ukraine’s current president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and pinning electoral interference in American politics on Ukraine’s former leadership.

“We see the conflict in which the new government of Ukraine faces due to the activities of the previous president,” Derkach said at the news conference, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

“I want to emphasize that I’m almost sure, and not only I, but many journalists, that [former Ukrainian President Petro] Poroshenko personally bears responsibility for the situation in which Ukraine has ended up, for dragging Ukraine into interfering in the U.S. presidential election, for a huge number of corruption scandals and international corruption that could not have occurred without his control or participation.”

These are not the kinds of things you want to hear in a Joe Friday “just-the-facts-ma’am” news conference, particularly in a country that has a history of corruption. For its part, the Biden campaign refused to comment when contacted by the U.K. Daily Mail about Giuliani’s remarks.

So, will this end up being a major new wrinkle in the Bidens’ Ukrainian troubles?

Or, will this end up being a major embarrassment for Rudy Giuliani?

One thing’s for sure — this one isn’t likely to be forgotten anytime soon. It’s also going to shine an unwanted spotlight yet again on what the Bidens were doing in Ukraine back during the Obama era.

‘Gift to climate alarmists’ exposes global warming junk science in 12 minutes

Recently, I viewed a 12-minute YouTube video by Tony Heller, released 9/20/2019.  He described it as “my gift to climate alarmists” and added: “This is my most concise expose of climate fraud.  Please pass it around to everyone you know and your elected officials.  The video is a little short, but cuts right to the heart of the matter.”  Be advised that the video is totally devoid of slick Hollywood production techniques, and the narration is monotone, but does cut to the heart of the matter. 

Before sharing, I took the precaution of researching Tony Heller.  Google listed several negative references up front that basically discredited him as a climate science–denying fraud.  However, digging deeper, I found he is well educated, often contributes to Watts Up With That?, and has occasionally used the pen name Steven Goddard.  His rather uniquely formatted website, titled Real Climate Science, contains his unorthodox yet impressive résumé.  Here was found evidence that Scott Adams of Dilbert fame considers Tony the skeptic he finds most convincing.

My career involved business analytics using the same math and charting methods as those applied to climate data.  Therefore, I am familiar with the misleading techniques demonstrated in the video.  I have also felt pressure from senior management to use questionable data, omit contradictory findings, or adjust measurement scales to exaggerate or understate trend changes if necessary to support their desired solution.  

Obviously, this type of data deception works best when the intended audience lacks the technical expertise to know it is being sold a fantasy.  It is even easier when the fantasy is something many truly want to believe (e.g., Greta Thunberg and other Extinction Rebellion participants).  The ultimate fantasy solution to prevent a climate catastrophe requires that big government be given the power to regulate man-caused CO2 and those infinitesimal amounts of methane from cow flatulence.  Never mind that total atmospheric CO2 is 0.04% (the equivalent clout of 4 pennies versus a $100 bill) and that today’s slightly higher CO2 levels have significantly increased worldwide crop yields.

Sadly, the truth contained in Tony’s video will never overcome the emotion-fueled political advantage of having a simple, taxable villain like CO2.  No wonder politicians, media, academia, and the green energy industrial complex will protect this lucrative fantasy at all costs.  Nevertheless, I recommend watching the video, here or below.  Then you decide.

Dick’s CEO Says Anti-Gun Policy Shrank Company by a ‘Quarter Billion Dollars’

The CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods told CBS News this weekend that his decisions to stop selling certain guns and hire lobbyists to push for new gun bans have cost his company roughly $250 million.

CBS Sunday Morning host Lee Cowan asked Dick’s CEO Ed Stack how much his company lost after the retailer decided to stop selling firearms to anyone under the age of 21.

"About a quarter of a billion," Stack replied. "Pretty close."

Stack also said the company destroyed $5 million worth of rifle inventory because Stack believed no one should be allowed to own them.

"I said, ‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them,’" he told CBS.

In the interview, Stack was unapologetic about the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of revenue. He said the company lost about as much money as he expected it to lose when he decided to institute a new gun control posture.

That is consistent with Stack’s previous statements on the losses associated with his decision. In the company’s 2018 annual report, he wrote that gun sales were a "sizeable part" of Dick’s business and that his push for the company to support new gun control laws significantly hurt that business. However, this did not make him reconsider his decision to use company resources to lobby for gun control and to remove certain guns from stores.

"The hunting category is a sizeable part of our business; however, there has been an overall slowdown in sales in this category since the announcement of our new firearms policy," the annual report read. "Despite this, we continue to believe that implementing this new policy is the right decision for our athletes and our communities. In fact, if we could go back and revisit it, we would still make the same choice today."

Still, the same annual report noted that the company’s alienation of both the gun industry and gun owners led directly to a significant drop in its gun business and could continue to have an impact going forward.

"Negative publicity or perceptions involving the Company or our brands, products, vendors, spokespersons, or marketing and other partners may negatively impact our reputation and adversely impact our ability to attract and retain customers and employees," the report’s section on risk factors said. "For example, after the Company announced changes to its policy relating to the sale of firearms and accessories and announced its support for certain gun reform measures in the first quarter of 2018, the Company’s hunt business experienced an accelerated decline."

As the 2018 annual report notes, the gun industry had been experiencing a slowdown in sales over the last several years, a trend that has actually blunted the impact of the backlash against Dick’s. But Stack’s aggressive embrace of gun control is likely to cost Dick’s shareholders more money moving forward.

The gun industry has seen a significant uptick in sales over the past two months, as Democrats and corporate leaders have leaned into gun control. While the gun industry is moving toward record sales, Dick’s is in the process of eliminating all gun sales at 125 of its stores, and Stack is considering pulling the retailer completely out of the gun business.

It’s pretty clear where their allegiance lies.

At one time it was a consensus in America to stand up to the Communists.
Not anymore.

Houston Rockets General Manager posted a tweet on Saturday in support of the Hong Kong democracy protesters.

Then all hell broke loose.
The Chinese Communist Party was outraged that a General Manager to a US professional basketball team would stand with Democracy protesters over the Chi-coms.

Daryl Morey was later forced to apologized for offending the Chinese Communist party.

OECD: Mass Migration Costs France 10 Billion Euros a Year

Mass migration costs French taxpayers around 10 billion euros per year, according to figures from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The actual cost of immigration is a highly debated subject in France. The populist National Rally (RN), led by Marine Le Pen, estimates it could be anywhere from 10 billion to 70 billion a year when adding in other linked costs, franceinfo reports.

That could include housing, medical benefits, the care of unaccompanied minors, and other social benefits for migrants, as well as all of the associated costs of asylum seekers and illegals.

A report released last month estimated that each minor illegal migrant costs the French taxpayer approximately 50,000 euros per year. With 41,000 underage migrants in the country, that puts the annual bill to the taxpayer at two billion euros.

The OECD report does say that migrants bring in around four billion euros a year, but the figure still leaves French taxpayers with a large deficit as the number of migrants grows annually.

The growth has been particularly prevalent in the number of migrants seeking asylum in France. For the last several years in a row, France has set record numbers in terms of asylum claims. 2018 alone saw an estimated 123,000 asylum claims.

The French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA) noted that the highest number of asylum seekers last year came from Afghanistan, up 55 per cent from the previous year.

Earlier this week, the French parliament debated the subject of immigration with French President Emmanuel Macron saying the country should not be “too attractive” for migrants.

National Rally leader Marine Le Pen, by contrast, has slammed Macron for being too soft on immigration and recently proposed a national referendum on immigration issues.

“These are questions to which the French have the right to answer, have the right to be questioned because it’s been for the past 30 years that an immigration policy which is contrary to their will has been carried out,” Le Pen said last month.

RNC Spox: ‘We’re Spending Millions on TV and Digital Ads’ Targeting Dems in Trump Districts

Tuesday during a radio appearance, Republican National Committee deputy communications director Cassie Smedile acknowledged her organization was targeting Democrats not just in districts President Donald Trump won in 2016 but also ones he narrowly lost to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as well.

Smedile told Huntsville, AL radio WVNN’s “The Jeff Poor Show” that the goal was to point out these Democrats did not live up to their billing when running in the 2018 midterm elections, especially as it pertains to the congressional Democrats’ effort to impeach Trump.

“We’re spending millions of dollars on TV and digital ads in these very districts,” she said. “There are over 30 Democrats in districts that Donald Trump won. If you add in districts that Hillary Clinton narrowly won that previously Republicans have won, now you’re looking at over 60 districts. And those are represented by Democrats in Congress who did not get elected by saying they were going to be part of the socialist ‘Squad,’ or the next AOC, or an obstructionist. They got elected exactly the opposite. They said, ‘I’m not going to be like them. I’m going to be a pragmatist. I’m going to work with Donald Trump when possible.’ And you know what? Not only have they not done it, but by then coming out in favor of this impeachment inquiry, they have shown their true political partisan stripes.”

“We’re in their districts,” she continued. “We’ve got awesome volunteers. I was just looking at some of the videos that are coming, and I saw them on Twitter of folks like you and me, who are going out, everyday citizens, going to their members of Congress’ offices and saying, ‘This is not what we sent you to Washington to work on. Stop playing politics and start working on policy.’ And I hope their members of Congress are hearing them. But if not, they certainly will hear them loud and clear at the ballot box next November.”

Nickelback Sees 500% Increase in Music Streams After Trump Tweet

Rock band Nickelback saw it’s 2005 hit song “Photograph” spike in popularity and sales, after a politically charged tweet by President Donald Trump.

Last week, Trump took aim at Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden, and his dubious ties to the Ukraine. The tweet featured a video in which Biden claim innocence, followed by the iconic shot of Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger holding up a photograph edited to show Biden, his son, and a Ukrainian gas company executive.

Amid the chaos of the Democrat impeachment inquiry, the internet at large embraced the meme — with many commenting that tweeting Nickelback at all should be an “impeachable offense.”

In response to the now-famous tweet, Nickelback pushed Twitter to remove it on copyright grounds. Nevertheless, the activity threw the pop rock band back into the proverbial spotlight. Overnight, streams of their music — “Photograph,” especially — skyrocketed. Within a week, the surge reached 569%.

And while it might not be grounds for impeachment unless you tongue is lodged firmly in cheek, it is a well known fact that being forced to listen to Nickelback constitutes actual punishment.

So far 71-89 miles of construction have been completed.

509 miles are slated for completion by next November.
