Trump Slaps Down Islamists, Affirms That Holy Site Belongs 100% to Israel

After President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, jubilant Israelis flooded the streets. They were celebrating the massive stand taken by the United States in recognizing Israeli cultural heritage.

While they were cheering, worldwide protests erupted as Islamists violently rejected this decision. Now, according to The Associated Press, Trump just reaffirmed another major site that will undoubtedly be used as an excuse to riot.

For Muslims, this site is called the Buraq Wall. It’s near to where Muslim tradition maintains Muhammad hitched Buraq, the magical flying horse that carried him when he made the mythical, 1,500-mile journey from Mecca to Jerusalem in a single night. It was a steed that was said to stretch and shrink so Muhammad was always even, regardless of terrain.

We know the same site is as the Western Wall. It’s a holy place for Christians and Jews. It is the only vestige of the Second Temple, where Jesus spoke, and is widely held to be laid upon the foundations of the First Temple, which was built by King Solomon.

According to the AP, Trump White House officials are making it clear that the Western Wall “ultimately will be declared a part of Israel” by the Trump administration. It certainly started that way, a long time ago.

In Jewish tradition, it was said to be spared the Roman ravaging of Jerusalem thanks to divine strength keeping it upright. The Western Wall is a place of prayer, and cracks between the stones are often seen packed with prayers written on tiny notes.

The wall itself is only a retaining structure, the westernmost supporting structure for the Temple complex. It was part of the expansion that redefined the Second Temple.

About 66 A.D.,  the Jewish citizens of Roman-controlled Jerusalem rebelled against Roman rule. The resulting siege and Roman re-conquest led to a Roman sack of the city in 70 A.D. and the destruction of many of the city’s Jewish monuments. The biggest target for looting was the temple, and there still exist engravings that depict Romans carrying treasure, including Jewish menorahs and other artifacts, out of the city.

Under Islam and Jordanian rule, the Wall faced even less mercy. It was renamed under the Islamic tradition, again linking it with Muhammad’s magical horse. A ceramic sign was affixed to the Wall itself to drive this point home.

The disrespect was so bad that Israeli soldiers who captured the wall in the Six-Day War in 1967 noticed that the previous rulers had affixed a toilet to it. It was promptly removed by the soldiers.

Trump’s affirmation of Israeli ownership of the Western Wall does much to undo the wrongs that Islam has committed against the Jewish holy site. It’s also a safeguard that tells the world “never again.” Israel has come under attack by overwhelming forces before, but as long as the United States stands, the Western Wall will belong to the Jewish people.

The Wall is now visited by foreign dignitaries, as well as hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually — Christians and Jews. For them, this can serve as a physical, unchanged symbol of their faith. God’s promise to help weather the storm can be seen in a simple wall that has endured the rise and fall of multiple empires.

Most important of all is how the site is now safely in Israeli hands. Anyone who wants to change that has the United States to deal with.
