House Republicans Demand Update from US Attorney Probing DOJ/FBI Corruption

House Republicans on Monday requested an update from U.S. Attorney John W. Huber, the prosecutor appointed by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions to review decisions made by the top levels of the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for bias.

Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Doug Collins (R-GA), and Mark Meadows (R-NC) sent a letter to Huber on January 7, 2019, requesting the update by January 21, 2019.

“We write to request an update on the progress of your review of irregularities involved with the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) actions during 2016 and 2017, including the process by which they undertook to comply with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), 50 U.S.C. § 1801 et seq,” they wrote.

“The DOJ’s and FBI’s actions and decision-making during the investigations of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the presidential campaign of Donald Trump raise serious concerns about impartiality, fundamental fairness, and adherence to the rule of law. These concerns prompted separate reviews from the Department of Justice, the DOJ Inspector General (DOJ IG), and congressional oversight committees,” they wrote.

“For the past fourteen months we have been part of a joint investigation by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the House Judiciary Committee into these matters as well,” they wrote.

“Your investigation has been ongoing for over nine months. During the course of our extensive investigation we have interviewed more than a dozen current and former DOJ and FBI personnel, and were surprised to hear none of these potentially informative witnesses testified to speaking with you.”
