Freshman Democrat Rep. Katie Hill told CNN’s Poppy Harlow on Friday that she is willing to vote for a physical barrier at the southern border of the US.

When asked by Harlow if she will vote for any money for a steel barrier, the California congresswoman said that “I mean, I will definitely, I don’t know if it’s steel, I will vote for some money for physical barriers.”

Hill also said that border security is a high priority for her district.

“There are so many things we can do in terms of technology, in terms of where we should be investing our money well on border security. It’s a high priority for my district…we understand the need for border security,” Hill said.

The comments were striking in comparison to the hysteria and vitriol over any discussion of a barrier from most of her party.

Hill has been outspoken about ending the shutdown and apparently eager to come to some sort of compromise.
